    Nice review, My favorite Bolex is my P-1. That zoom lens would require far too much screwing but might actually be handy for fast action.

    Hey! I have one of these cameras around here somewhere -- with a standard lens. It runs -- need to try it out!

    I complicate my life by using old film lenses on nice digital SLR cameras. Manual focus brings me back to the old days

    Finally a great review on something I own. I have about 10 Bolex and been sending them out for CLA to The Photo Center in LA, about $88 per Bolex:) Funny I've just received my film back from you guys and I ran it with my Kodascope Eight Model 70 8mm film projector. All I can say wow!!!!!! Thanks for all the help and a wonderful review..... And yes I buy my film from you guys and follow you on ig too...

    Oh my god! I have one of these I picked up twenty years ago for $5 at a thrift shop! I've often wondered if it was useable?

      Wind it up to see if it runs. You might want to send it out for a CLA. I send all my Bolex to The Photo Center in LA, Cali....😁

    HELP!!!Is bolex c8 better than quartz m? Can you pull focus on the quartz m soviet 8mm camera since I don't see any focus ring and the lens is inside the camera? I'm gonna buy an 8mm cam so I am confused

  • @wattehel

    I believe Bolex will still service it.

  • @jaydaknight2827
    @jaydaknight2827 Год назад +2

    Im a little confused- when you loaded the film in the first round you put the dull side against the lens and when you loaded it to shoot the 2nd side you put dull side against the lens- wont you record over what you just shot?

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  Год назад +2

      No, because you are shooting an 8mm image on 16mm wide film...so you are shooting two side-by-side images - your developed film looks like this on your negative - ruclips.net/video/TQrDbkIz2QI/видео.html

    In my experience ALL of the small-body 8mm Bolexes need a servicing, since the mechanisms go out of adjustment, particularly the spring motors. On the 'bay seller bluemonarch22 offers full.small body Bolex servicing. I can vouch for the quality of his service-a night-and-day difference with my D8L (model made a few years after this C8)

    Have you ever tried to do a CLA on one of these to clean and replace the grease?

      I have not. This particular camera is a bit grundgy - not sure if worth the expense. - Mike

    A few things after watching your little video, don’t bother wasting a roll of film in this camera, it’s too gummed up to full a full roll of film through it. It’s just wasting a roll of film. Have the poor thing overhauled first. Second, ISO 40 film shot a f/22 will be underexposed by a stop a full stop and a third of another stop. Finally the YVAR lens on this camera is just the basic middle of the lens range three lens element normal lens for this camera. One plus is that it’s not a fixed focus lens. SWITAR lenses were the top end lenses, which this one isn’t. Keep up the good work, and keep shooting film.

    Just a question -- Mike -- did you try mounting the zoom lens with the viewfinder on the other side of the camera? Not sure if the viewfinder standoff distance is enough for it to work that way or not, but that would at least not block the film door....

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  Год назад

      If I mount the Zoom on the other side, then I can't wind the film. :(

      @@FilmPhotographyProject -- Ooops, it's not quite a win-win, is it? Well, does that zoom lens work on other dbl-8mm cameras? Is it a D-mount lens?

    This is not a "reflex" lens. It has a beamsplitter.

    I imagine that zoom lens wouldn't work with the h8 either- simply because of the eyepiece.

    Some lube on the worm gear for the shutter should smooth out the operation.
