Hi Joe, found your channel :) You're doing an amazing job. That's one big Santa Maria you're building. Looking forward to your progression! Best wishes...
@@genojoe3176 the building of ships is of course the main goal, but indeed, since last month, I enjoy trying to capture and edit videos. It is new to me, so I probably make every error possible :)
That's a really strong looking frame. I've just caught up on your videos. For some reason YT didn't send me a notification for them. Looks to be a really interesting build. Will look forward to watching more :)
Hi Joe. Been looking at both your videos and VanMac for your Santa Maria builds, as I am just beginning the work on mine. If I am interpreting the manual guide instructions correctly, he is instructing to NOT glue the bulkheads (you refer to them as ribs) on to the keel (its center spine). How loose were your bulkheads prior to and after placing them permanently on the ship? I'm assuming the spacers provide some support, as well. Were you concerned at all about the bulkheads being at 90 degrees to the keel with each spacer placement? As you mention in your video, as well, this is certainly a different build than the previous ones I have worked on! Appreciate your assistance. Will continue to follow your video. I have started a build log at Model Ship World, which is where my previous 4 build logs are, as well. Thanks, Joe!
Hi! This is where it gets a bit tricky but works out in the end. Yes, there is a little bit of wobble in the bulkheads as you test fit, but that is firmed up once the keel sections on page 4 are set into place. This is where my problem began as I glued those into place before getting an accurate placement of the last 4 bulkheads (the tall ones). The spacers you mentioned take up the slack as you assemble each and assist in tightening it all up. Gluing in place begins on page 15 after everything was dry fitted. If I had to make it all over again I would get the keel prepared and put it upright. Install the first and last bulkheads and glue the keel into position. That would eliminate the improper fit once you get to the final few bulklheads. I hope this helps!
@@genojoe3176 Thanks for the quick reply, Joe. Yes, this is another area where I think the picture instructions are lacking and confusing. I, too, had already placed the #58 and #59 keel sides against the center keel prior to any bulkhead placement. Not entirely comvinced, though, that any bulkhead wiggle is due to them not being seated well at the bottom. Most of the wiggle seems to be at the top. Just not sure why Pavel's instructions say NOT to glue the bulkheads to the center keel, as this would guarantee a solid fit. the gluing would just need to be "coordinated" with the spacer placements (which ARE supposed to be glued in place) so that everything fits snuggly. May test a bunch, if not all, the bulkheads to see if there would be any issues in that regard. Anyways, appreciate your quick reply. Will continue to follow your progress here on RUclips and, although I am obviously behind you in progress, hope you take a look at my build log as I work on this Santa Maria, as well. If you are a member of Model Ship World, I can send you a link to that build log page. Thanks, Joe.
@@gg66012 One correction on the keel pieces 58 and 59. I didn't mean the wiggle had anything to do with them, what I meant was properly seating the last few bulkheads to eliminate improper height during the stern area assembly. It gets tricky when working on the stern later in the build, only to discover the height during assembly was off could have prevented. Page 12 is where the bulkheads will firm up and lock into place. Once all my bulkheads were installed and the spacers were in place I used white glue to firm everything up and it is solid. I hope this helps.
Hi Joe, You’ve been a busy man. Looks great! I’m curious have you tried to see if the stern planks met your profile line? This where I started noticing problems with the planks being too short. Crossing my fingers that you don’t have the same problem.
@@genojoe3176 Actually, you can go back to video Part 1. At 4:55 you’ll see the plank is to short. Instruction page 43 part 71-16r or left to check length. I only profiled to the line.
@@vanmacvideos3774 Got it! I am not yet up to that point but I will let you know as soon as I get there. I do see your concern and hopefully it has been corrected on my ship.

Thank you! This is the third ship for me, and I don't care for the camera too much, but hey, it's enjoy! Thank you for the sub!

I wonder why that is? I might have a setting that is preventing it. Thank you for the heads-up!
