Geno Joe's Modeling
США
Добавлен 16 ноя 2012
This channel began as a testament to the memory of my son, Scott. Who after struggling with a lifetime of fighting depression took his life to end the constant torment inside. Scott was a Firefighter who championed everyone, but sadly was not able to do so for himself. He is greatly missed but never forgotten.
To fight my own depression after experiencing the death of a child, I came across three channels that ultimately began wooden ship modeling as something to take my mind off of things, Olha, Alex, and John have changed my outlook and offered direction, guidance, and of courses, happiness.

Santa Maria #21 Lifeboat
The lifeboat is now completed and ready to be installed on the deck. However, there are many lines, ropes, and eyelets to mounted before we get there. The color of the ship is TEAK not TEAL as I somehow continue to call it. The masts are next!

Santa Maria #19 Masts, Spars, and the Flagpole
Просмотров 666Месяц назад
I have completed the shaping of the masts, spars, and the flagpole. As I mentioned these items come as pre-cut wood and it is up to you to plane and sand them to shape into the shape of the masts and spars. The flagpole was inserted into the stern decoration area and is awaiting its flag at the end of the build. #woodenships #modelship #occre #shipsofpavelnikitin #santamarie #AlexModeling #John...

Nice boat. Hope everything is ok, wish you a happy holidays mate. 🫡🎄 Looking forward to the next episode. 👌
sorry i haven't commented in awhile. between work and reenlisting back in the military i haven't had much time so I'm glad to be back.
Very cool weathering
looks great Joe, missing your longer videos m8
buenos dias Joe , puedes decirme que marca es , quien comercializa ese modelo? gracias
Good looking boat, Joe! You've really done well on Pavel's ship AND boat! I am working on finishing the hull planking, then on to the three smaller decks! Impressed with your work!
What did you use to mark the edge of the deck planks and what adhesive did you use to attach them to the false deck!
Donde se puede comprar ese modelo gracias espero respuesta😊
Hola joe es preciosa pero de que empresa es?
That’s a neat little kit in itself. 👌
Joe, Life boat looks good. The most visible area when viewing the life boat is the top area . That’s the area I put the most detail and effort in. Yours looks great.
@@vanmacvideos3774 thank you!
Love the life boat Joe, 98 parts wow thats a lot. shame about the plank lengths, lucky you can hide it.
Really interesting model boat
Life boat came out really well Joe. 98 parts is a lot!
@@GregWilson635 Greg, other then the planks being too shorty it is a great kit!
that is one very nice life boat!
@@Curtis_Wooden_Shipyard it certainly is!
Joe, I’m curious to see if you can make the jig work. I had a heckuva time trying to make it work. Gave up on it. Also, some planks are miss marked.
@@vanmacvideos3774 the jig lasted about 15 minutes and I did away with it.
I will separate the planks being that is the the point I am currently beginning.
Hi Joe. I don't really look shorts, only longer video's :). It is very nice to have a lifeboat kit. For the Santa Maria, I modified the metal parts myself. They always look better this way in stead of metal parts. Looking forward to your progress.
Thank you, Curtis. I prefer the longer videos myself, just trying to please the crowd.
Looks really good. I need lifeboats with pre cut planks. I have a terrible time planking life boats.
Greg, I hear you. Lifeboats are not my favorite things. However, let's see how well it goes when they are preformed.
Hi Joe. Very nice detailed work my friend! Is it the picture of your son in the back? So sorry... As I'm not native speaking English: what is a "dowel"?
@@Curtis_Wooden_Shipyard Hi Curtis, yes that is a picture of my son Scott in the background and thank you for asking. Demo in English would be a long stick of wood that is round. So what normally comes in a kit for the mess?
Joe, The masts and yards look like they came out pretty decent. I’ve been curious this past week on how they would come out. For me, I was worried the diameter would be too small after rounding them out. Also, I was missing 4 pieces of the masts. Basically that’s why I went to the dowels. Don’t hesitate to contact me about rigging block placement and rigging if needed. Be happy to help.
Van, they didn't come out as well as I thought but I am pleased with the overall conclusion. I figured the time it took was just that, time, which I have plenty. When I step back and look at the progress I am happy. I will certainly be giving you a shout if things go down hill, which I am sure it will.
Vance, I will take any advice you have with placing the pulleys, blocks, etc. These instructions are pretty rough.
Very impressive work, Joe
@@GregWilson635 Thank you, Greg
Great work Joe, looking good,
@@g-kip Thank you, sir
Wasn’t the rudder so much fun? One of the reasons I left it till the very end. Also, I wanted to see if the slipway would help during the rigging process. It kinda did, with still having rotation. I could bring the top of mast down to eye level while sitting. Easier on the back. Nice work.
@@vanmacvideos3774 Thank you Vance, oh yeah it was a blast and a half. Let me tell you. I have been using the stand that came with the kit. I stopped using the slipway about 2 weeks ago. I found it very easy with this stand because it gets lower. I have the three mask tops coming in from Pavel. He actually sent them the next day so that's pretty good, although I really don't need to do anything with them for a couple of weeks as I still have some shaping of the mess and other things like that to do. But thank you, this has been fun!
@@genojoe3176 I really hope Pavel follows through. It would really help his PR. Received my replacement parts from MarisStella yesterday. Took three days from Croatia. I’m very impressed with them.
Joe, you're on fire here!! Well done!!
@@Curtis_Wooden_Shipyard Curtis, thank you!
I hope i get the weathering down as well as you.
@@martinaalderink7773 Thank you Martin. It started with some scrap pieces and just playing around with it until I liked it
Awesome work Joe. Love the look of the rudder!
@@GregWilson635 Thank you, Greg! If you start with good materials, you'll usually end up with good results.
That’s looking fantastic! I love the weathering effects, especially on the edge of the ladder steps!
@@NosterRex Thank you, sir!
Great work as usual Joe 👏
@@GregWilson635 Thank you, Greg!
I think i saw Grant use that crystal clear also. I used to save some plastic from windows in packiging, but that would be more usefull for bigger windows i guess. Keep it up, looking forward to see it finished
@@martinaalderink7773 Thank you, sir! I'll see you in a few hours at Olha
@@martinaalderink7773 I've never tried it on a large piece. That's something we'll have to experiment with
@@genojoe3176 I wonder what the long term is on "laminating" a build, i have zero experiance with that. I never thought about building models for the eternity.
@@martinaalderink7773 Martin, I didn't mean laminating like you would with wood. What I meant was there's a 3D plastic printed base and then each side of that gets wood attached to it. So it basically looks like a piece of plywood
@@genojoe3176 gotya
Nice work Joe, I find the Micro crystal clear very useful for adding that little extra detail, the colour looks amazing you've done a great job.
Didn`t i see you use that also? i seem to remember. Btw, just finished ornaments on Sovereighn. After only 10 yrs or so XD
@@g-kip Thank you, as I've said before, I'm really enjoying this build. And you'll like that micro crystal clear. It adds for a good detail as you said
@@martinaalderink7773 I think I'll go check that now while I'm waiting for Olha to come on

@@martinaalderink7773 My last model kit I did was the endurance and it had portholes. Maybe you saw it from that build
Hi Joe, it realy is a very nice model with lots of details. Did not know about the kristal clear. Sounds interesting. Beautifully done!
@@Curtis_Wooden_Shipyard Curtis, I saw the crystal clear while I was watching a boat build for a battleship and they were doing all the portholes. Then I thought, that'll work on wooden chips too
Very very nice work Joe. 👌🫡
Thank you, sir!
Great work Joe! your progressing quickly. I'm definitely buying some of that Kristal Clear.
Greg, thank you! The build is moving along quickly, but being retired has something to due about it...LOL. The Micro Kristal Klear works great in creating a well made porthole and is available at Amazon.
Looking great bub

Thank you! I am truly enjoying this kit.
@genojoe3176 you ever thought about doing a live show? Like doing some Q&A and what not. If you are allowed that is
@@error404gamernotfound5 oh I am allowed. It's just that I get very camera shy
What is this? A model ship? My grandad built a model steamboat when I was a teenager, it was a real wood steamboat with a big paddle wheel and a working kerosene boiler, I don’t remember the name or brand, but it was like a kit where you buy the instructions and then you can order the wood and metal fittings from them, I think he got it from a catalogue or something, I just can’t remember, but I’ve been trying to figure out what exactly it was called so I can see more RUclips content like it. It was amazing and a great memory of mine watching him put it together. He unfortunately never finished it as he had cancer and passed away before it was complete, but he got a good 2/3 of the way through it.
My condolences to your and your family, a loss is always painful. Yes, this is a model ship that you purchase as a kit and build it using various wood and metal parts. They can be purchased at various hobby stores, online model shops and though Amazon. Just type wooden model kits and you will find many. If you were going to start I can point you in the proper direction as it is a great hobby. If you go to my main page you can follow a few builds I did as well, but I've only completed three, I'm still a noob. www.youtube.com/@genojoe3176
Looks more incredible with every video. I would build this but postage to Australia is more expensive than the ship itself lol
Oh I hear ya! The kit has doubled in price here in the states. This used to be $450 and it's now $959. Crazy!!!
looks amazing joe, love the colour.
Thank you! It is a teak stain that I bought through Amazon. I Googled and they stated these ships were made from Teak and Cyprus, but I could not locate Cyprus in anything less than one gallon. So teak it was!
Sharp looking! You are going great, Joe!
Thank you! This was like a mini kit with 48 pieces.
That's really impressive. It's like a kit within a kit.
Yes sir! I am loving this kit.
Your doing a wonderful job on it Joe!
Thank you!
Great work my brotha!!!
Thank you!

You used to get them from Pavel's website in Ukraine; however, with issues in that area you can purchase these kits from Model Expo in Florida. The prices have gone up and they are on backorder as well. modelexpo-online.com/Pavel-Nikitin-Model-Ship-Kits_c_1262.html
