Claudio Monteverdi is the most renowned composer of the Renaissance period. This music is so delightful, in its relaxing soft passages, and exciting movements. I Am missing out because I don't speak Italian, but I get it mostly.

I´m just getting into opera. This imy favourite version of lórfeo. Everyone looks so lovely and seemes to have so much fun singing and acting. I love monteverdi. 😊😊Watched it about 20 times by now I think.😅
The central theme of this piece goes as gar back as human consciosness. The moral of the tale is the same as in the Mystery at Eluesis...the understanding of the presence of the seeds of life even on death. The victory of love over darkness.

Beautiful! Of course, the works of the later greats of music go further....but this one, with its simple lyrics and melodic line as pure as a tear in the eye, seems like the dawning of the miracle of music emerging from the morning haze in the rays of the rising sun... Thanks!
Monteverdi is among my favorite composers. Jordi Savall and the whole cast & orchestra did a great job here. It cuts off the ending, which is annoying. The last line (in the last second) is, "Drags me, against my will/ Up to the hateful light?"
Einfach großartig. 2. beste Version. Nur die von Harnoncourt in Zürich 1978 gefällt mir persönlich besser, weil bei Harnoncourt die Bläser wuchtiger und straffer klingen. Aber dies ist ebenfalls wunderschön.

Ah...I know portions of this piece from the '69 LP, "The Well-tempered Synthesizer," by Wendy Carlos. I find the excerpts arresting and quite a full flood of interesting and varied sound. This performance is nice, too. :)

E' un peccato che quest'opera non sia stata più riportata a Mantova. Ironico dato che non sapevo neanche l'esistenza di questa opera, dato che penso che poche persone a Mantova sappiano di questa persona.
I've been looking for a section of this opera for quite a while... I wish I had thought to write down the section back when we played it for flute choir (just the section, not the whole opera)... for the life of me I cannot find it anywhere our parts were common time key of D, my particular part beginning had whole rest, half rest, 4 8th notes, 4 quarter notes, 2 8th notes, dotted quarter, 2 16ths... could probably play most of it from memory if I had kept up practice
Claudio Monteverdi il compositore del melodramma musicale operistico la trama, tema argomento ricavato dalla opera scritta di letteratura dell'autore Poliziano.
Am I the only one to notice this ends prematurely with Act V missing. Disappointed to have sat through 1hr 35 for that to happen. Interestingly, the transcript does continue to the end so presumably the video was intact originally?
The opera can play dreary due to the subject of DEATH. This is increased with the straight toned faux period voices that all sound like strangled cats or wind rushing through cracks in a window. This has and can be done in another way with more radiant, vibrant voices that perhaps are stronger. The same change in effect occurs in works of Monteverdi etc when played another way.
Yes, and no doubt set in modern costume and performed in an underground railway station.... do you not think M's 'classical' simplicity is intentional? He well knew how to write otherwise.
Claudio Monteverdi (baptized 15 May 1567 - 29 November 1643) was an Italian composer, choirmaster and string player. A composer of both secular and sacred music, and a pioneer in the development of opera, he is considered a crucial transitional figure between the Renaissance and Baroque periods of music history. i was never as happy as now, to have youtube subtitles in this Opera.
The most lovely music ever written. Sounds modern and old at the same time. Refreshes my ears after the present excuse for music.
I so much love this opera and this performance in particular.
Such a thing needs to be preserved for future people.
DA qui cominciò la storia dell'opera.

This performance is just awesome. It really captures both the rawness of the rennaisance and the introduction and sophisticatian of the baroque.
