What a sad story R.I.P Brian Stanley, going to be spending time in a cemetery myself tomorrow for my father's funeral burial, love and respect from Leeds West Yorkshire England UK 🇬🇧.
Lamont , as a pilot you are probably correct about the altitude of the plane being no more than 500 feet considering it was still within airport boundaries when he fell off. As usual, great story.
They think of unimaginable things ,I should now,my son is mentally ill, keeping them safe and alive is hard. I truly believe these souls should be permanently in specialized centers, group homes well medicated, stabilized .I wish the government would care more about them.
Exactly. Mental illness isn’t really taken as serious in men vs women. Some ppl also treat it like it’s the common flu because ppl cry wolf n self diagnose like some RUclipsrs out there.
I was an 8-9 yr old kid living abt 20 mins down the road from where this happened at the time in Mayfield, Ky and remember this so vividly. I never knew the back story of his mental illness and the cause etc. Given the time period mental issues were not talked abt widely and ppl were just referring to him as the crazy guy who did something stupid. So very sad, but glad to see a name and story behind all this, thanks Lamont!
There was an unsolved mysteries about a guy that disappeared at a metal production factory. They found his glasses at the bottom of a furnace when they emptied out the slag. That episode always stuck with me as kid.
Lamont, I really love when you do the follow-up stories from Unsolved Mysteries. I remember seeing that particular episode about the plane jumper. Great job as always!!
I'm wondering if he thought by jumping on the wing that the pilot would notice, stop and let him on board. 🤔 Glad he was identified and the family got closure.
OMG! I moved from Southeast Ga to Paducah Ky back in 2001. Lived in Paducah for 10 years before moving back to southeast Ga. I got to see weather that I never experienced in southeast Ga. Quake tremors,a blizzard, and an ice storm that knocked Paducah off the grid for a week or 2. I actually miss the change of seasons that southeast Ga doesn’t get. I remember my co workers in Paducah telling me about this guy.
It's so sad that most of these patients don't want to admit that they have a disorder and that they need to keep up with their medication in order to keep stable. That's why a lot of times they even lose their lives in confrontations with others, even the police that a lot of times don't have enough experience to handle these cases. May God protect our mentally ill patients from the harm they put themselves into when experiencing these episodes, 😪
Will you please do a story on the guy who stole an Alaska airlines plane and flew it around Mt Rainer and did a barrel roll then crashed? I'm not even sure if it's a true story.. I saw a clip on Facebook that had radio communication and all that.
If he landed on the fence of the airport, the airplane couldn't have been thousands of feet up in the air already. 500 feet sounds more like it. I agree with you on that. Thanks for a very interesting story. I look forward to your videos every day.
Hope you went to Barkley Dam and Land Between the Lakes while you were there. My family lives all over there in Western Kentucky. Paducah is the nearest good size town.
I was in Paducah that day at BINGO. My neighbor and I took the airport road to go home and passed the ground crew walking in a search formation, arms length apart. They "waved" and we honked. We passed a section of downed fence and I said that maybe a plane nicked the fence. Halfway home it came on the radio about a reported person falling from a plane at Barkley Airport and commented that we may have passed where the person fell. My niece worked at Lourdes Hospital and they set up a viewing area that allowed locals to look at him; just his face was uncovered. There were lines of people. It was said that the tips of his fingers were missing from the flaps closing on them, which was why he let go. He was above tree height when he fell. The police drained a pond in Noble Park because it was said he had been there and threw something in. Not true. The Air Force bomber jacket had a name in it that wasn't his; the rumor was they thought he may have purchased it somewhere. His face was actually in the local newspaper. My late sister had one. The people of Paducah moved heaven and earth to find out his ID. I watched that "Unsolved Mysteries" episode. Next time you're there, Lamont, look up Henry "Speedy" Atkins.
The plane couldn't be too high if he landed on the perimeter fence. Going 200 MPH, to reach 3000-3500 feet the plane would be way past the perimeter fence.
Back then, not many people knew little or nothing at all about schizophrenia. My brother and a friend has schizophrenia, and we never knew they have mental illness. Unless the Psychiatrist diagnosed them of schizophrenia, we would have never known the mental illness.
Lamont your amazing at what you do…. Just be careful the world has changed be safe. So sorry for the way he died , had to have been horrible for him RIP.
Lamont have you covered the man that was an employee at an airport but not a pilot!? He stole a very nice airplane took off in it.. he learned how to fly it by playing a video game.. long story short he took the plane to commit suicide! But he was also mentally ill! I forgot his name but it shouldn't be hard to find information on him! VERY FASCINATING STORY! He was actually called a hero, by many people! His story reminds me of this one
I remember this from years ago, had no idea that his identity had been solved since. I could feel the cool, fresh air as you were walking & talking there in Paducah, KY
Oh wow I was a baby and my mom was pregnant with my sister when this happened 😮 poor guy, seemed pretty lost in life. Schizophrenia is no joke, I hear most stop taking their meds. Rest in peace, and now the whole family is together 💐
As a mother of a bipolar 34 year old I can relate to this sad story. I have kept my son very close but his illness is terrible. This could very well be my son .At this moment we are going to court because in one of his episodes he mess up and don't remember a thing. The very same day he was admitted to the hospital. RIP forever young.
Barkley Airport, Paducah., KY a nice small regional airport, Paducah is a great town, took a flight from there in "06" to Minneapolis, just shopped at the Kentucky Oaks Mall in Paducah 😊
Wow i remember that episode of Unsolved Mysteries!!! That particular story always stayed with me because it is so unique. Im so glad to hear that the John Doe was identified. I assumed the man MUST’VE had some sort of mental illness.. but even so, i wonder what he thought would happen by scaling the fence and jumping onto the wing of an airborne plane?? Like in his mind did he somehow think that would actually be a viable way to fly from point A to point B?? Because I don’t think he was purposely trying to kill himself… so strange…
If they fingerprinted him @ the M/E office and he was arrested once all they had to do was run his prints in the system and his information should have come up.
I live in Paducah Kentucky! I know and remember all about this!! You were in my neck of the woods! I actually busted my knee open at that airport years ago!
I use to work for the city in Paducah Ky and would clean the small Oak Grove Cemetery office. The elderly lady that worked in the office at the time would tell me stories about the flood(check out Paducah flood wall murals in downtown Paducah)and how caskets rose to the top of ground and started floating down the downtown Main Street at the old cemetery site. The city later moved the cemetery to where it is today and the old dates on stones were some of the originals from the first cemetery site. Paducah has a lot of history. Vice President Barkley is from Paducah!
Sad,, forgotten, no flowers no visitors, Thank you Lamont for remembering him, May he rest in peace
Very sad mental illness is the most ignored aspect of our generation, I'm glad you covered his life in video nice job Lamont!
I agree Diane Lamont does a great job I try to see all his videos 😊

The poor guy's mental illness was so bad he thought holding on to a plane was a good idea. I wish we could radicate mentall illness.

There was an unsolved mysteries about a guy that disappeared at a metal production factory. They found his glasses at the bottom of a furnace when they emptied out the slag. That episode always stuck with me as kid.
I wish they would have a new unsolved mysteries show like the old show.
I don't want to shill here, but Netflix is streaming a re-vamped version of Unsolved Mysteries and they do pay homage to Robert Stack.
Never was as good without the Original man😊
I remembered this story on unsolved mysteries loved that show #RIPROBERTSTACK
Yeah, the new one is a snoozefest.

I thought I remembered watching this on Unsolved Mysteries.
I do not think I missed an episode.

I remember hearing about this when it was on the news in 1991. How sad. RIP Brian
Lamont deserves a place in history to make sure peoples stories arent forgotten. So many people dont know how much history is in cemeteries.
VERY INTERESTING....never heard of this incident.
Fly high young man. Rest in peace.
This was Paducah in Kentucky (not Texas).
I remember this Unsolved Mysteries episode. I didn't know that this mystery was solved.
Thanks
That’s unreal sad. What a thing for his parents to cope with

I remember this, it was all over the news. I'm so glad somebody was able to identify him. I was in Burna, KY when this happened 35 miles from Paducah
I totally remember this Unsolved Mysteries episode as a kid. I had no idea he’d been identified. Thanks Lamont for doing this episode.
Stay safe out there, and rock on, Lamont! 💜✌
You told this story well as always. Mental health issues are no joke. Brian thought he could hold on to that wing as easy as going for a run. 😢
I'm wondering if he thought by jumping on the wing that the pilot would notice, stop and let him on board. 🤔 Glad he was identified and the family got closure.
About 20 years ago in CA when skydiving I saw a women disconnect her self from her parachute about 1000 ft from the ground
