Jean Stapleton was an amazing actress. I loved her character on All In The Family
Carol O'Connor was such an excellent actor. He expressed so much with his facial expressions to tell right where his character was at emotionally. Beautiful work.
The only thing that ever really made Edith upset with Archie, or anybody, was dishonesty.
Edith could always catch Archie in a lie. He starts talking fast and rambling. She knew that the bowling story was bogus from the get-go.
With this it wasn't just the dishonesty with the lie. She was devastated because for the first time possibly ever, she knew she might lose him.
Dishonesty is the most upsetting to me too. I would rather face the most painful truth than being deceived and lied too. Edith is my kind of girl. ❤
This hit deep now that I'm in my 60's....and experienced it
1:23 -- Brilliant little subtle facial expression change from Jean Stapleton. She's showing a slight transition into a smile just before calling. The fact that Archie said "do whatever you want" was as if to indicate to her that he actually had nothing to hide, which put her briefly at ease. Little things like that really show just how brilliant of an actress she was.
He always found a way to blame her for everything.
He runs off to Kelsey’s and leaves Edith alone after she’s already been alone all day.
Exactly! Then he had the audacity to complain when she left the big toddler alone for a while.
What a GREAT scene between these two fantastic actors! This is the art of acting! What a talented pair! Wish they were still with sharing their art with us!

I can't believe that he kissed that low-down waitress, Edith cooks and cleans for you, puts up with all of your yelling, and screaming and bigotry, and you being cheap. This would have been the last straw for me.
Well that was truthful. And well said. In a marriage the one stability is counting on your partner and like that you can’t count on them anymore. My finale words to my partner were I can trust you to cheat and that is just not a trust I’m willing to live with .

The Lady he loved was, Is a beautiful person..I knew her..

I made me so sad to hear Archie call Edith a "dingbat". How demeaning!! There was nothing funny about it.
They should’ve done this scene without an audience. The laughing is inappropriate in places where it shouldn’t. They had to do an episode bout cheating to add some tension between the Archie and Edith characters.

In all honesty, Edith could've waited to return Mr. Kleeger's clackers. (his Sears bought teeth). He was one of the Sunshine Home's residents. I forgot why she had his teeth. She could've gone back in the morning to return them to him. She didn't have to go just when Archie was getting frisky. That isn't to say he was justified in calling Denise for a date and coming this close to adultery. It's a good thing the Kelsey's delivery guy showed up and caught him. Otherwise it may have happened. So there was blame on both sides but he could've waited since she was so insistent on going. I think at the end of that evening both of them had major regrets about their actions of the evening.
Oh, come, man. Archie always disrespected her and always called her a dingbat. He would go hand out with his friends at the bar. He would tell her to be quiet when she wanted to communicate. Yet, she never cheated on him. And just because she went off to work and didn't want to have sex that gave the big baby the license to cheat on her. Now I can see if she did that all the time, but it was just for a while. That's what a selfish person would do. It's all about them.

@@alondralabute2310 License to cheat meant that he made a lame excuse to cheat on his wife. Think about this. He'd go to Kelsey's bar and spend time with his buddies while she was home alone, not even thinking of her needs. He only thought of himself. He had Edith cook, clean and take care of him while he insulted her and treated her like she was stupid. So, when she goes off to work and leaves him alone, he whines like a big baby and then cheats on her. In other words, it's all about me, me, me and never taking her into consideration. Edith never cheated on him even after the way he treated her. But, then, she leaves him alone for a while and he goes berserk. It's called being extremely selfish and inconsiderate of his wife. So, why should anyone sympathize with someone like him? Now, it's only a show, and I love all the characters. However, my point is how people sympathize for the cheater more than they do the innocent mate. That's just downright pathetic.
@@davidnace9946 It was lousy timing. What would Archie have done if Denise hadn't given him her phone number with an open invitation? He'd have either stayed home and watched some TV or gone out to Kelcy's or maybe bowling like he said he did when she asked what he'd done. But since she was only gonna be gone an hour or so at most it would've been better if he'd just stayed home and watched a little TV and waited for her like she always did for him.
@@alondralabute2310 Absolutely. He's a grown man who can take care of himself when his wife is out for a while, not some helpless little toddler. Sadly, some people think it's a good excuse to cheat on his wife because she left the baby all alone for a short while.

He begged her not to go, he was trying to be romantic with her, and she leaves for her job anyway. So yes, he's going to look around, you (Edith) had it coming.

Awww...the poor, little toddler was begging her not to go. Boo hoo. She had it coming? How many times have he disrespected her by calling her ding bat and spending time at the bar with his friends instead of with Edith? Every time she tried to communicate with him, he didn't want to talk or tells her to be quiet. Yet, she never cheated on him. She leaves for her job and he wants to be romantic. Wrong time to be romantic when she's on her way to work. Why couldn't he wait later that night? So because she didn't give the big baby attention when she couldn't, he got a bit too selfish and cheated on her. Some lame excuse.
Although this is just a show, it goes to show you how people like you think only of themselves in a marriage. They only think of what the other person can do for him/her but couldn't care less about pleasing their spouse.
