@robin plante " There will never ever be another show like this ". WRONG, " meathead ". There *has / have* been other shows like All in the Family. Some of my personal favorites, ( All in the Family being one of them ), had a great / fabulous cast and very funny lines.
It's very possible he didn't and they filmed a pick up shot later. But at the same time, this cast was stellar and he may have had no problem stifling his laughter.
All In The Family really defined tv in the 70’s. There will never be another Carroll O’Connor, nor should there be. Thanks for all the entertainment, Mr. O, Connor. RIP with love.
The way that Mike got into bed is insane. Archie's way of getting into bed is the traditional way. Oh, and Archie's approach to putting on socks and shoes is also the traditional way.
Yeah, the bed thing I can see Archie's point with the fire. By the way, if you watch the beginning of the episode, you will see Mike get into bed with Gloria just like he did here.
How could Gloria be romantic toward him after witnessing that? 🤢 Plus I had the impression he was doing it because he thought it would be unnecessary to make the bed in the morning.
in Mike's defense, when i was in basic training in the USAF, that's just the way we got into our bunks every night. we did that because there was minimal time to make our beds in the morning. u learned how to sleep like you were in a cocoon...😳😉
The chemistry between o conner and reiner in this scene reminds me of laurel and hardy . Archie's slow burn after mike spills the water is pure Oliver hardy
Those posters on the wall are awesome! This is hilarious how people have their “thing” about covers on the bed. To make an antagonistic, argument scene using this subject matter was brilliant.
Mike sliding down under the covers made me think of my Granny 😍 and being a child. Boy did she make a beautiful bed. She'd tuck the covers really tight under the mattress and I couldn't pull them out so like Mike I saw an opening and went for it. My nightgown would bunch up to my mid-back. Pulling it down while laying down was a bit much. Love you much Granny 😘.
Great scene. Even though Mike and Archie never agreed on anything at all - one could sense that Mike really wanted Archie's approval. This subtle conflict kept the relationship interesting. I'm sure the writers did it this way on purpose.
I enjoyed this show and I was young at the time it was aired. I like the part, when Meat Head 's bed fell apart beneath him. 😂😂. I still watch it and it's still a classic.
LOL 😂😂😂😂 when Archie was asleep in bed then Michael gets in the bed with Archie and spilled that glass of water over and Archie woke up and the first thing Archie said was and quote you waited after all this time to get in bed with me and do this..... I was done... 😂😂😂😂... But really got me was watching bangs on the wall to wake up Edith and says to eat it the bed is wet in here and Edith said oh... I love All in the family I was in Middle School at the time and even though I'm fully grown up I still love the show back then and right now.... They do not have any more sitcoms like this... They always make me laugh or sometimes it's a little emotional but each character play their part or that truly what happened in real life thank you so much for this series of reruns of All in the family...❤️😊
My brothers and I all agree, my father was exactly like Archie bunker. And just like you I watched All In The Family faithfully in the 70's 80's 90's and even today, I love watching it whenever it comes on!! The Honeymooners was also another one of my favorites.
@@jonchaney Oh, really? I thought he was confusing it with gastritis! I had that once over 20 years ago, and believe me, I wasn't laughing at the time! Ouch!
Archie teaching Mike how to put on shoes and socks, how to eat properly and how to get into bed properly all show me that Archie really DOES love Mike. Besides, these scenes are sooooooooo funny❤😂
Archie’s lecture about the bed almost reminds me of my dads way of imparting his wisdom to me. lol. He calls it “the church of Paul “. 😁. Only without the rough edge.
I love Carrol O'Conner he truly made the show with his authentic acting. There was just one other show that matched this one and that was the Jeffersons I loved that show, too.
@@sha11235 Oh! That's right! The writers for the show must have forgotten that Mike did find him dead. Must have been two different writers for the episodes!
His son in law had opposite political views, opposite religion, opposite life values, etc. Actually the only thing Archie and Meathead have in common is they both love Gloria in their own way. Also Meathead mooched off of Archie for 4 years while Meathead was going to college.
There's a video posted on this very channel that partly shows why. It's from the 'flashback' episode "Mike Meets Archie" (Edit: Looks like the whole episode is going to be posted right here soon). That will explain it a bit more, but the whole episode explains a lot more why.
One explanation was given was that Archie was jealous of Mike. Mike was young and had his whole life and a world of oppurtunity ahead of him whereas Archie had to quit school to help support his family....so Archie saw, in Mike, the things that he himself could never do.
Us native Texans laugh at Yankees because they are weird. They eat bagels, they talk funny, like saying "terlet", and the men wear pajamas. They are so different than us, but they are fun to watch.
Please show the rest of this scene where he is in bed with Archie. Mike spills water and tries to clean it up only to wake Archie who is thinking is the meat head doing what I think he is doing

@Mike Exactly! It is truly sad. But it’s their loss
Archie and Mike were the best father/son in law duo. They made every scene pricless.
"Edith's pajamas don't have the standard opening." 😂🤣
The sock & sock & shoe & shoe , now this ?? I'm crying 😂😂😂😂
How Rob Reiner kept a straight face when Carrol flapped the sheets is anyone’s guess.😄

I'd love to see the bloopers of this one he must of been laughing and had to do a of retakes
How Rob Reiner is such a dope is anyone’s guess.
This is the final take...no bloopers are shown
I love how looking at the bed is one of the steps in getting into it properly. 😂
Ikr?
Reminds me of Norton's explanation to Ralph in The Honeymooners about how to play golf. Step One: address the ball.
You don’t look at a bed before you get into it?
@@oilersridersbluejays I can skip that step.

Total … ear to ear smile! Television artistry! The chemistry between Carroll and Rob! Such a groundbreaking show!
This scene was hilarious when Mike broke the cot and got into bed with Archie and spilt water in the bed.
A timeless classic

I didn't think anybody would get into a bed like Mike. And watch the beginning of the episode when he and Gloria get into bed. He does it there too.
Making a perfect bed was an art for some. My late mother-in-law. I was scared to even touch her bed it was so perfectly made.
Great scene. Even though Mike and Archie never agreed on anything at all - one could sense that Mike really wanted Archie's approval. This subtle conflict kept the relationship interesting. I'm sure the writers did it this way on purpose.
They cut the scene short. They missed the part where Mike tries to get out and is stuck. He exclaims, "I shoulda used the flap!"

Archie and Mike were a perfect duo. They fit there characters to the tee. The flap to let the gastritis vent is such a crack up. The flap. Too funny

Was there a main reason Archie Felt so much rage at his son in law just asking
Wayne Hoxit:the main reason Archie felt so much rage at his son in law could be because Archie's son in law was an atheist.
