The film said it's a mile to shore but the tide would make it seem like 10. If true they had no chance. If it was a mile & the tide made it seem like 1.5 miles, not sure how long it would be until their bodies starts numbing. An hour may have been enough time.
I just gave a research speech on the escape and the tide that night actually pushed them to shore. Myth busters tested this in the same conditions and made it to shore just fine.
@@adamcollins915 yeah the raft in real life was pretty nice and they used steam from pipes to make it whole. 8:50 For the warden, a crushed ego will be the least of his worries. After he tries to explain to a committee how Alcatraz's "inescapable" reputation went to the doggy pound, he'll face lots of awkward questions especially regarding his conduct. And investigators will interview the prisoners and learn what an a-hole the warden was: ex. when he permanently confiscated an artist's painting privileges, just cause his painting of him the warden likely commissioned wasn't a perfect likeness to point said artist chopped his fingers off in protest. To say nothing of how he triggered another inmate into a fatal heart attack by crushing his crysanthemum calling it "against regulations." At best for the warden he'd be laughingstock of the justice system, at worst he'll shower with the same cons he lorded over with a tight grip on his soap, including "Wolfie boy." Either way, once the Alcatraz case and the prison itself is closed, so is the warden's career-permanently. That's exactly what he's thinking when he crushes the Chrysanthemum and tosses it into the water. Also speaking of flowers, I like the symbolism represented by the Chrysanthemum. Besides deliberate placement on the rocks to rub their escape in the warden's smug face, when said warden crushed the Chrysanthemum it reformed back into shape once he tossed it in the water. The Chrysanthemum represented the prisoner's freedom, and no matter how hard the Warden squeezed he couldn't crush their freedom. And it's safe to say the warden crushed his own freedom and worse his own career from being a dick to the prisoners he was supposed to help reform.
The real guys did escaped, and they never found the bodies. In the 1979 (the year this movie came out) the FBI called it quits, after searching for them 15 years after their escape. Although they're still on the wanted list, and there have been sightings on them alive but old, so far the world will never know
Wacky Fun Ironic Casting Fact: Patrick McGoohan plays The Warden in 1979, lording over The Prisoners. Yet, in the late 1960's, He was the lead Prisoner in "The Prisoner." Nyuk. Nyuk. Nyuk. :) If nothing else, Frank Morris and company didn't have to evade the stupid Giant Inflatable Balloon in their escape. ;)
Some say the N.Y. gangster bumpy johnson arranged to have a boat waiting to pick them up . .and there was a report of a boat seen near alcatraz that night..
Clint Eastwood did wonderful job. His the legend.. Brilliant way of using paper mache for dummies. I watch another man survived 72 days.. true story. If you can swim .. & beat off the shark then they survived.. !!
Even though no one knows if they made or not. I honestly don’t see them surviving the cold ass water San Francisco is known for I mean hypothermia. Swimming for that long with little equipment and no way of keeping warm. No way they survived
Inmate John Paul Scott did it too (using inflated rubber gloves 🧤 [stolen from the prison hospital] stuffed into his clothing) except he was recaptured after he was spotted half dead from hypothermia and exhaustion on a rocky shore near the Golden Gate Bridge 🌉

They had life jackets the raft they made was 14 foot long with paddles interestingly a 150m cord went missing from the dock that night the could have got pulled along by boat to horseshoe bay rest washed up on angel island
If they had a small rubber dingy, the kind you see on a beach, they could have made it. However virtually their whole body was under water. Just kicking would mean they were not going very fast. Suspect they were washed out to sea.
Problem is, even if all three were successful in making it to Angel Island, then you got to get off of Angel Island and make it to Tiburon or Sausalito. How the hell were they going to do that? Swim again from Angel Island? All within 9.5 hours??
As much as I want whatever you said to be untrue , this is the most likely explanation. I understand the thrill in believing they made but tbh chances of that are very very low . A prison movie with a horror soundtrack, heh
What better way to define the American Prison system as hell on earth.
I truly believe they made it, they probably did throw some of the stuff to make it look like they drowned, but the raft and the bodies was never found. But one question is "Where would they go?" I think they probably went to Mexico, South America, Australia, or Europe to escape America's law. I think one of them is still alive today and probably send a letter to the American law authorities telling them that they made it. But we don't know until it might pop up on the news one day.
soo glad they made it out alive
@@Kenny-ep2nf Well, I know they work a lot to pull the escape off. But we don't know where they live after all these years.
@@CaptainWyatt1 I think they've kept themselves hidden for safety
@@Kenny-ep2nf You got a point there.
Amazing
The 3d guy didn’t had any fearing problems.. he stopped by piece of metal bar and he can’t passing through the hole.. I don’t know why the movie director changed the real story.. also didn’t understood why they didn’t go during summer to avoid the coldness..
If one or all 3 survived, surely one or all of them would have gone public. A few weeks before they were going to die of old age.
To tell the world - 'WE MADE IT'.
What a story they could have told.
I would not do that what about family ?
@@crazyhiphopp That is a good point. People who knew where they were for all those years would get in trouble with the law.

I don’t think so, they probably love the fact that we don’t know what happened to them, and they want to keep it that way
@@Lebby-lc9co rightfully so
As a longtime Bay Area resident, I get scared watching them enter the water knowing how sharks do hang around in the bay. I'll take Andy's escape through the sewer pipe in The Shawshank Redemption over escaping from prison just to get my leg bitten off.
@@bulls2384 Wonder why Eastwood's film had them on such a poor raft. They would never make it on that.
@@adamcollins915 yeah the raft in real life was pretty nice and they used steam from pipes to make it whole. I think the raft in this movie could actually work tho because there was that one prisoner who made it to shore by creating water wings from inflated rubber gloves but that guy got hypothermia
Account for adrenaline. And the laxk of choice they had in the matter it was either make it or die
@@adamcollins915 that raft is so uncomfortable. They would've died from exhaustion in a few minutes. Most likely they drowned tbh. From angel island , where did they go? Did they kept swimming for the next 10 hours? Most likely shark had them for dinner
Does it get more epic than escaping Alcatraz
Morris changed his name and identity to Callahan.... Harry Callahan

Although they're still on the wanted list, and there have been sightings on them alive but old, so far the world will never know
if they found them today would they still prosecute them?
@@Kenny-ep2nf maybe but they'll give them a less prison sentence in case if they don't have a lot of time to live

Yet, in the late 1960's,
He was the lead Prisoner

Clint Eastwood did wonderful job. His the legend.. Brilliant way of using paper mache for dummies. I watch another man survived 72 days.. true story. If you can swim .. & beat off the shark then they survived.. !!
And then Frank got snapped up by the TVA and he became Casey.

I hope frank and angil brother saw this last scene of the movie it might remind their real exacpe from alcatraz
6:35 Apperently the movie was supposed to end here with the head being discovered, but Eastwood didnt like this and extended it

Even though no one knows if they made or not. I honestly don’t see them surviving the cold ass water San Francisco is known for I mean hypothermia.

No way they survived
Even this day they still could be out there since they very much did get away with it.
If Jack Lalanne could do it so could they.
Who?! 😳
@@BlueshirtFan4Ever Google the name.

Mesmo sendo bandidos nos cidadaos de bem, estamos torcendo para q eles tenham conseguido escapar kkkk
If they had a small rubber dingy, the kind you see on a beach, they could have made it.
However virtually their whole body was under water. Just kicking would mean they were not going very fast.
Suspect they were washed out to sea.
Two other inmates escaped after them that made it to the mainland.
Waiting for loki 😂
Problem is, even if all three were successful in making it to Angel Island, then you got to get off of Angel Island and make it to Tiburon or Sausalito. How the hell were they going to do that? Swim again from Angel Island? All within 9.5 hours??
As much as I want whatever you said to be untrue , this is the most likely explanation. I understand the thrill in believing they made but tbh chances of that are very very low . Regarding not finding body , that is not very uncommon . They might have been eaten by the dangerous sharks in that water . And you saw how uncomfortable they were rowing on that raincoat made raft ? They would've been exhausted in few minutes .
A car was stolen that night
