- A step by step tutorial of a very effective method to remove DEEP paintwork scratches that CANNOT be removed by sanding and or/polishing alone!
Using solvent paint and lacquer, as well as some cheap basic tools and consumables, a really effective scratch repair can be achieved.
www.paintgear.co.uk do a purpose built kit which is shown in the video. The site matches your paint from your vehicle registration and is sent out in the kit once purchased.

Thank you for your videos. You are helping me get ready to tackle all the scratches on my car's paint!
Nice to see this done on a metallic coloured car and not a flat white car. Great job!
Another cracking repair video - you’re giving me the confidence to give this a go! Thank you - also for the product recommendation too.
Awesome
Brilliant job and results, keep the videos coming as they are very much appreciated 👊
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos 👍👍

Glad to help
Top video, as a newbie I thought I would have had to respray before polishing, I have a few scratches to fix, and some kerb rash too. A very informative and interesting video, thank you! No disrespect to our brothers across the pond, but so good to see some UK content...
Thanks James glad you like the video. No disrespect taken... there is some shite out there 😅👍🏻
Your videos are excellent.
Well describes everything. I do a lot of detailing, and this is a wonderful way to properly fix a scratch!
Thanks mate
A really helpful video. I have just purchased your kit, to repair the paint on my Jaguar XF.
Great. We will be processing that tomorrow
Best videos on you tube, can’t wait for the next one 👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
Nice one Malcome
That’s amazing - thank you for putting these videos together for us. Wish I could get your products in the US.
You can get all that you need in the US. Color, clearcoat, brushes, compound/polisher, and 2000 grit sandpaper. nvm the brand of the products, just make sure the color matches.
We are working on it but there's alot of red tape
watched about 5 of these now this is the best one
Awesome, thanks for watching
Wow! Great job, gives me the confidence to have a go at a big scratch on my drivers door ....thank you 👏
Nice one. Yes same method can apply to scratches too. Good luck
Excellent presentation and of course results! I keep looking at one of our Honda's and the numerous wounds it has on it. I feel your video's are building my confidence to give it a go.
Good stuff. Just be aware that Honda paint is very thin so don't go mad with the sanding and polishing.

Top job
Cheers
Frank👍
Thanks Frank
I need to go to spec savers because I couldn't see the repair on the close up. Excellent job I have to say.
Haha cheers 🍻
Nice. Work mate keep up the good work
fantastic video thanks a lot for sharing. Is there any pros and cons of using this system vs basecoat + 2k clear coat on top? Also, what's compound are you using? is it a coarse or fine compound?
stunning work bro that was just great content and great vid bro amazing finnish top man
Kian 👊🏻
Thanks - that's a great job.
Use a denibbing file rather than sand paper, it will cause a lot less damage to surrounding paint/clear coat and flatten the new paint much better, also wipe the scratch with isopropyl alcohol before applying paint to make sure there are no contaminants in the scratch. Very good result though, may not be 100% perfect but if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't be able to see it which is the best you can hope for with touch up repairs.
Yep. I have a denibber. This is a DIY video though that people can do themselves
You mean (denibbing file?) small piece of metal with sharp edge? it can be used to flatten the edges of the scratch too?
@@MDOP1 Sounds like it, just google denibbing file and you will see what I mean, look like small metal block with rounded off edges with a serrations on one side.
Can you suggest a good small file?
@@cvrpovwell said. Great job, enjoy watching your channel.
Thank you for this 🤙
If your eye doesn't immediately catch it its all good in my book. Great fix.
This guy is a genius!
Very kind of u sir
Many thanks for your valuable experience but I would like to ask can I add a clear coat + hardener ratio 2:1 with metallic paints for deep scratches repair or even light scratches
Nice tutorial for the DIYers, and I love your work.
Looking at closeup of first coat paint, it seems the very top end of scratch was not painted, like you missed a spot. At the finish reveal, the same spot shows the defect, albeit very slight. Would you be able to redo that area, if you wanted to?
Yes mate solid colours are a lot easier. You did are good job....
Thanks
Brilliant job.
Thankyou
FANTASTIC JOB
Excellent job! Just subscribed.
Once the polish and wax wear off will you notice any blemishes caused by all the abrasives used?
Great video and easy step by step thanks
You're welcome!
WOW amazing work
Thanks
Wowsers! That’s incredible! Defo going to try this…. For the novices amongst us, when you talk about “polish” many of us think of wax polish. But I’m guessing that some sort of cutting compound - can you share which one you’d recommend?
It's certainly not an eye sore like it was. Nice work.
Did the job. Thx
Love your video. Will this method work on Mercedes pearl white? Thanks in advance.
Nice job amd result 👍😁🙏
Great video, easy to follow. The kit seems a good price, it's just a shame it doesn't include a few small pieces of the wet & dry sand paper as these generally have to be bought in bigger packs, and for small jobs you just don't need 8-16 large sheets of sandpaper.
Looks great!
was about to buy chipex but youve saved me over £10 nice one
Great stuff
@@cvrpov Thankyou
Lovely work and a fine repair. I don't know what you use to film it, but could you get a polariser filter for it? It will take the reflections away and show your work off in a better light so to speak.
Wet sanding master! I've been able to work on scratches with a lot of confidence. My only concern was keeping the clear coat from being too low
Makes of car manufacturer vary but always go steady and take ur time
Great job, someone buying the car would never know.
Exactly mate and this makes it very usefull
You are a gent, great video. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Great job!
Thanks!
Nice job!
Thanks!
Great videos and very helpful.
I've watched a few of your videos, I am going to try and repair a few chips on my truck.
I've been filling the holes with paint over the last few days building them up flush.
I gotta say I'm very nervous to use sandpaper on the paint even if its 1500 or 2000. Although your examples are giving the courage to go for it.
I have a few questions I'm hoping you can answer for me.
I used the touchup match lacquer for my truck colour wondering if you know if the paint is good on its own or if I need to use the clear coat too.
Also do you have any suggestions for polishing compound that I should use.
Do I use a cutting compound first then a polishing compound or just straight to polish after the 2000 wet sand.
Really appreciate the videos.
You do some great work
Thanks for sharing
Just go steady. Use a small block when sanding..plenty of water. Maybe a bit of soap or car shampoo for lube. 1500, 2000 and 3000 then a good compound. I like farecla g360. www.paintgear.co.uk sell some in 100g tube.
great job.
Thanks Jacob
Great job 👍 That's how I do it as well.
Thanks 👍
Great video . Going to buy one of these kits . Will mention I came from your video . Would be good to see you do a review on compounds on a budget . I know you used 3m fast cut . But there are so many would be good if you can give some understanding
thats not a bad idea i might do that
@@cvrpovwhat pad are you using to cut on this video
Theses videos are awesome
Brilliant ! Someone chipped my BMW wing today, the chip is a bit rough to the touch, what do you suggest ?
Amazing!!!
Thanks for teaching us😊 :)
Very therapeutic to watch
Hey buddy love watching your videos I used your alloy wheel refurb kit you sell to do my wheels spot on. Just one thing I have a chrome painted crash helmet which has a chip do you offer a chrome touch up kit ? It’s a bell eliminator SPECTRUM CHROME
Thanks Kevin if you ever get chance to drop us a review on Google or our website then that would be great. Not sure on the chrome question. AFAIK there isn't a paint that will replicate that kind of finish.
Can you use touch up paint from the dealer that is a match of the original in the same way?
Beautiful
Thank-you
Great informative video, What paint do you use to rub into the chips before flatting ?
Solvent basecoat
What type of lacquer would you recommend blending into the solvent based paint? I have a few annoying scratches that I'm going to attempt to fill in. 😂
Great job mate! I was interested to hear your comment re Solvent paint vs Water based Acrylic paint. I have bought water based paint and clear to spray my spoiler and rear bumper that has deep scratches. You mentioned that water based paints wouldn't work, was that just with this system? Thanks
it doesnt work with this method but spraying it is obviously fine
Excellent 👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Great fix. I wouldn't want to scratch the whole surface with sandpaper
Ok
very acceptable repair ...
additional coat of wax may
conceal the mark .. thk U
for the video 👍 ..
Yeah won't hurt it. Thanks
16:08 you can see a visible patch where you machine polished, what grade of compound did you use and did you apply it completely dry?
Love the videos, and the results are impressive, but if you turned up in my drive and slapped your paint and tools on the bonnet of my F-Type we wouldn't be doing business.
do you put a flex additive in the paint or clear?
Hi, just watched a few of your other videos where you used your finger to apply the paint and didnt sand down or prep like you did here. Curious why you did not use the same technique here?...is there a level of width or depth of a scratch that depends on your approach? Thanks!! Loving your videos.
The rub and buff method may of worked in this instance but I wanted to show another technique.
That reducer can be used to thin that paint when gets thick?
Hello, very useful and well explained. I have a question, wouldn't it be necessary to finish the job with a clear coat?
Yes that would help. Check my other videos
Hey buddy, good video! I have already bought from these guys. Is there a recommended cutting compound you would recommend?
G360
Magic!
Very nice
Thankyou
Great video. Just a suggestion: move the camera over when you're going have the hand in front of it or blocking the subject. Showing the quantities of each compound would have made the video even more detailed. ;)
Noted thanks
Great video and amazing results! But what kind of pad did you use on the rotory?
Just a cutting pad
@@cvrpov Thank you for the prompt reply and I am looking fwd to utilizing this on my s500 this weekend!
Magic 👊
Would you put clear coat back on top?
Perfect
🙌🏼
