    The lower price for the R5 is done to entice consumers into adopting the RF line up. Like razor companies they plan on making their money from the blades (lenses), not the handle (body).

      Except, you can still adapt EF lense that you already own. so your point is?

    • @cwfranz
      @cwfranz 4 года назад +1

      @@ehaitem RF is a new lineup with professional lenses that are much more enticing even for photography with high-MP cameras (think R5) than older EF L-lenses. To establish it Canon puts out a somewhat modestly priced pro-body to make the change to the new mount more appealing. That's vice-versa the same reason for the higher pricing EOS 1D MKiii: customers of this camera can justify the higher price because they already own Canon L-glass. Their rationale: Even though the camera's expensive, they don't have to invest in new glass. Therefore, the new 1Diii has to be fully paid, while the R5 (and esp. the R6!!) are placed like "subsidized" bodies, to ease the pain of switching mounts.

    I’m a current A7iii owner and I initially took the bait and preordered the R5. Then every day since their announcement more and more flaws are popping up. These aren’t rumors or my opinion, these are videos from people currently using the R5&R6 that Canon gave to. Both the R5& R6 have a 30 minute record limit no matter what mode you are in, the R6 has a 1.07 crop factor in 4K. The R5 has a rolling shutter issue with video because they aren’t using pixel binning, the R5 can only do 4K 120FPS for 7 yes 7 mins before overheating, no 4K Raw, and a battery that’s 10 years old that gets drained super easily from these demanding camera bodies. Canon just happened to leave all these things out of their spec sheet. Canceled my preorder because those are the issues that I know about. I’m sure more will follow after everyday people give an actual honest review. Keep up the awesome work man!

    As good a camera as this is, people need to remember that 8K is only going to just begin to creep into consumer/cheaper products now, most households from research still only have HD TVs and monitors, so you're really not going to make a difference to many people that watch what you make, and most common editing machines can barely handle 6K RAW footage right now let alone 8K without spending big bucks. Also, remember that this camera is made for a different type of shooting than the camera he compared it to, which is the Blackmagic range, and they would be used in different scenarios. This camera is clearly a run-and-gun camera whereas the BMPCC 6K/4K is a Cinema camera meant for bigger productions. And also finally they are forcing you to move to their new RF mount which means buying new glass all over again. Not trying to dump all over this camera, I'm just saying it's worth thinking about all this before you jump at a shiny new piece of tech just because the numbers are higher than the previous cameras.

    CF Express cards might actually be more affordable that I thought. At 4k 120fps, youd be looking at 235 MB/s. For an SD card, the only one that can handle that is the Sandisk USH II card that barely scrapes by at 260MB/s write speed. A 128GB card is $200. Deslkin has a 2TB CF Express card coming out soon that B&H has listed for $1000.For 2TB worth of slower SD cards you'd need 16 cards costing $3200. Even Delkin's 1TB card is $800 vs $1600 in SD cards.

For me, raw recording is pretty important, and I don’t need 8K Raw, if the R5 would have been able to shoot 4K Raw i wouldve maybe considered it. Another huge reason is the option to shoot directly onto an external ssd, making my workflow waaay faster. @@whoismatt Yep I absolutely heard someone saying that in his review, 8k raw and 4k proxy on the SD. Can't remember who, I saw too many reviews today lol. Most probably whatever can be written on the SD will also duplicate on the CFx. Keep in mind that my EOS R already needs a v90 to write the 4k 24/30p ALL-I at 470Mbps (same with the R5), so 8k ALL-I and 4k 60p ALL-I being over 1000 Mbps you won't be able to use the SD for that. Also note that the 4k 120p seems to be ONLY ALL-I and 1880 Mbps, which means that you have no other choice than a CFx to shoot 120p.

    Canon smartly released the R5 at such a convenient price. They realize with the praise the RF lenses have garnered and new, popular camera bodies they will make large profits from RF lenses.

    Not a bad price... I bought the Canon 1D in early 2000s for $8000 and it was only 4.5 megapixels. I made soo much money from that camera because nobody else had a digital camera worth a shit and I could turn in my images that day instead of waiting on processing slides.

    I understand the entuziasm but how can you recommend a camera that currently has no real world reviews? The ones that came out are basically still under NDAs, limited to what Cannon wants you to see. Most of your reviews, as they where presented are based on months / years of experience with gear, or should we doubt that as well? Seems like a bold statement to make just on specs alone...

    The overheating on the R5 I’m reading about is concerning. I’m hoping the a7siii addresses all the overheating issues of the past. Give me 10 bit 4:2:2 4K 60 with a articulating screen and no overheating in the new Sony and I’ll be more than happy 😃 👍🏼👌🏼

    As you mentioned if the S1H had to include a heatsink and an actual fan to keep the temp under control when shooting the higher bit rates, how long would you be able to shoot those high fps 4k and 8k before you're unable to hold the camera or shuts down due to overheating? Until I see iPhonedo do his side by side heating test I ain't buying that this will handle those data rates.

    I feel that 8K sounds good on a tech sheet but will be impractical for people who will use this camera for work, the logistics of handling so much data and editing so much data like 8K can be costly for hardware to keep up. Although I believe the rest of the camera is a right step forward for Canon but if you already don't have the glass for this camera y'all probably have to take a second mortgage.

    The market is shrinking. They need the market share and not only that, they will put pressure on the competition to meat or exceed in specs and price. Others to meet will need to lower their margins. Also, the lens selection is without comparison.

    I expect very few who have bought into the Sony system will be switching. The vast majority have zero need for 8k and certainly almost none for it without compressed RAW like the Blackmagics. So with it's 8k issues highlighted already in many other youtube videos we are left with a viable 4k camera but still with issues and a high price ( for a 4k camera). The Sony A7 iii is the camera to beat for most people and I expect Sony will have a 8k camera ready well in time for people actually needing it. Meanwhile I expect Sony's up and coming cameras in August will offer far more practicable solutions , less rolling shutter , colour depth, better file formats etc and at lower prices. It's great that Canon have woken up but it's too late. I have seen nothing here to make me want to move away from my Sony A7 R iv and Blackmagic camera. I hope Sony produce something that excites as much as the hype around the R5.
