Actually, going by Dutch prices (body only), when you compare price per click, due to the shutter actuation of 500 k vs the R6's 300 k, the R5 works out to be € 16, - cheaper for 500 k clicks, than the R6 is for 500 k clicks.. ;)

I was wondering whether you had any information on how long the battery on the R5 would last for capturing video (HD and/or 4K)? Of course there's the 30 min recording limit, but that can be bypassed by using an external recorder. I will have to shoot videos of up to 1 hour and am asking myself whether that'll be possible at all. If one battery isn't gonna last for an hour of shooting, maybe using a battery grip and therefore two batteries will work? Also, would you know of any option to power the camera whilst using it via USB?

Amazing that it is now Sony with the better battery life. It is going to be interesting to see what the A7S III will offer in a few weeks time, and then I will need to decide whether I sell Canon or Sony gear, and go all-in for either brand. I had always been a Canon guy, but started drifting into Sony when Canon decided to not offer decent video in DSLR’s. Only now both are good enough for me to make the decision to consolidate back to a single 35mm brand. But until we see the A7S III, I still don’t know which it will be.
BTW, does the R5 have a super 35 mode? A crop mode is a hugely important feature that I love in Sony cameras where choosing between crop and full frame is a feature that expands creative options.

Great review. As a 5Div user interested in landscape the logical choice seems to be the R5 (resolution , top screen etc, etc). Price is rich in Euro though, yet to wait for a price drop could be a while & by then the 5DIv will be probably worth a lot less. Thanks Canon for creating the ultimate conundrum ....when to make the move.

Will it still shoot 12/20 with adapted EF glass like a 500/4 or only RF glass? Will it only shoot 12/20 using the new battery or can one use an LP-E6N from the R bodies for example for the same shutter speed?

Probably the best all round camera at the moment.. maybe not the best for wedding or concert event videos due to the long cool downs when the camera can’t be operated at all and the short clip times after first overheat cool down.. but with the RF lenses, it’s a high res photography monster and I think 45mp is a sweet spot between resolution and post edit workflow time.. but will have to test the video clip times for a outdoor summer event use case.. mostly interested in clip lengths of 4K, 24-60-120 and how long the cool down periods are and post cool down clip lengths

Have you seen what Panasonic S1 can do? And it's been out for more than a year. Canon dropped the ball, it had some catching up to do. But what use is 8K camera if you can only shoot 20mins before it overheats? Panasonic was smart and included cooling, so I can easily shoot a wedding on S1. R5? "No, no, no, don't exchange wedding vows yet, my camera has to cool down"...lol...
I understand the limitations of the small body and heating, but if the competition could've done it a year ago...well, not looking so good for Canon on practical use of video.
Yes it's an impressive camera, but why throw 8K in, when you don't even include a cooling system to support it? So yeah, my go-to would be Panasonic at the moment too. They just need to sort out their focus issues.

Maybe my understanding is incorrect, but you can't have raw recording at a reduced resolution than whats on the sensor without a crop. RAW is individual pixel/photosite data passed through without any processing. 4k is a homogenization of multiple photosites

2: Yes, IBIS works for all video modes as far as I know.
3: It's like any other screen.
