"Green, Green Grass of Home", written by Claude "Curly" Putman Jr., was first recorded by singer Johnny Darrell in 1965, a country song made popular by Porter Wagoner the same year.
It was also covered by Bobby Bare and by Jerry Lee Lewis, who included it in his album Country Songs for City Folks (later re-issued as All Country). Tom Jones learned the song from Lewis' version and, in 1966, he had a worldwide No. 1 hit with it.
I am very relieved to see another fan at an obscenely young age (at the time) make comment. I was age 3 when I first fell in love with Toms vocals. Yes, his vocals - at this PIT I had not seen him. At 3.3/4 years, was the time I had fallen in "like" with Tom. Like soon became Love then lust & back to love ❤ My relationship with his music is my second longest relationship ever 😊
