This man was cold blooded and vastly underrated. The fact that he was ostracized for his beliefs is exactly what was/is wrong with the “land of the free”.
Even though his carrier was stopped short and they traied to black ball him. The one thing the NBA could not do (thanks to social media and you tube and to all that watched him play ) was take away his high lights amd poeples memories of him
I’m not even a Curry fan but these casuals say he couldn’t play in the 90’s. Rauf was doing back then what Curry does to defenders now in the NBA. He was a special talent but had a short career.
@@jarvasedundy1 right? Only disliked the warriors when KD arrived but before and after they are great in my book. Nothing but respect the built that team from nothing
Curry does not play like Rauf. Not saying he couldn't play back then, but Rauf isn't the proof. Rauf was far more quick and athletic and was way more midrange dominant
@@j_abesit’s his era, mid range was considered a better, more efficient shot. If he played today he would most certainly have a Dame/Steph style of play. Layup or 3
What’s not in these highlights is how he never missed from the line. One of the greatest to never be talked about. Sounds like he’s finally getting some recognition but not enough and not from the NBA. Forget numbers, watch his highlights against any other guards’.

First saw him when he played at LSU. He was chill in college and then turned to ice 🧊 in the NBA! They NBA needs to honor this man for blackballing him
After Muhammad Ali, Abdul Rauf (Chris Jackson) followed suit and was shunned because of his religious belief. Before Colin Kaepernick's kneeling down, Rauf prays to his Allah during National Anthem and paid dearly for what he stood for and continued to do so. But the man can truly ball.
To me, the most impressive thing about Mahmoud’s shooting is his extreme focus. He is NEVER, and I mean NEVER, bothered by defenders in his face no matter how close they are. He was an incredibly feared shooter and got a ton of attention, yet it was always like he was shooting in a gym by himself. That’s utterly amazing considering his small size compared to the length and height of guys he played against every night.
He had some great plays and stats but it was kinda sad seeing those huge losing point spreads on some of the games. The Nuggets had some decent players in the 90's with Abdul-Rauf, Mutombo, Dale Ellis, McDyess, etc, but it wasn't enough for them to be a winning team.
Yea, he truly should be spoken about whenever the greatest scorers of all time are mentioned. Its because of his religion and name change. There must be a documentary on how he was treated and sort of not given the focus and due he deserved. He was elite of the elite when you talk just 🏀.
As a fan of Steph and him being my favorite current player he ain’t got nothing on Chris Jackson his game was way more consistent and reliable he just played with average at best nba teams if he played with a Shaq or along side another great the media woulda been forced to talk about him more because buddy woulda been going far in the playoffs during that era we ain’t gotta argue if u don’t like it cuz u can’t tell me shii I was fortunate to be old enough to watch both
If Jackson played today where they shoot threes all the time he would be unstoppable. If Curry had played back then in the 90s he wouldn’t enjoy the physical defense and the hand checking
For some late to the party hoop fans it would have been better to include that he had two names in the text somewhere, Chris Jackson, his birth name, and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, his taken name for religious reasons. He was a baller, instant offense. But, though he took a hit for his beliefs which was ridulous, his points per game were taking a hit, too, toward the end of his career in the league.

This guy was amazing, Awesome shooter, perfect form, and lightning fast. I believe the only reason he didn’t have the career success as Wardell Stephen Curry (other than playing in an era where “big men” dominated the ball, versus today which is more perimeter-oriented) is that it must have been physically difficult for him to shoot the NBA distance 3-pointer. He was only 6’ and 160 lbs. Do you know how hard it is to shoot a 23’9” shot? It’s a hell of a long distance to shoot a basketball, especially at his size. Wardell is 3” taller and 30 lbs heavier, makes a huge difference shooting 3’s. You’ll notice that when the NBA went to a 22’ 3-pointer in 1994, Rauf’s 3-point percentage went up to almost 40%, versus below 35% at the longer distance. But either way, Rauf was a tremendous player in college and still did very well in the NBA
I remember first seeing Chris Jackson at LSU with Shaq and Chris was the top scorer on the team. As others have said, he was punished in his career for his religious conversion to Islam.
Not punished for converting to Islam or being Muslim. Kareem was Muslim and he wasn't punished. Olajuwon was Muslim and he wasn't punished. What made people have a negative view of Mahmoud Abdul Rauf was his refusal to stand for the American national anthem. Not saying that is right or wrong, but I was at a game where he was sitting down and you could hear people in the stands complaining about it.
@@PomazeBog1389Abdul-Rauf (Jackson) was persecuted because his beliefs did not align with white Christian-Americans. Olajuwan is a completely different circumstance.
