  • Joe's in Scotland where he travels from Pitlochry to Inverness with a van full of parcels to see why courier companies like DPD charge steep surcharges for deliveries to the area. Is it really as 'offshore' as they claim?

I had a lot of weird shipping problems in Scotland, even when I lived in Edinburgh. I needed some art prints delivered once before an event and paid extra to get them delivered on time. When they didn't show, I called the London-based company and they said "we didn't realize you were in Scotland." As if I hadn't included my delivery addressress and was in Narnia, not in a country literally attached to England.

The way people in the UK view travel distance has always been interesting to me as someone who lives in the Midwestern United States. My doctor lives in a different state than me and is a 3.5 hour drive both ways. I see him every other month and it’s doesn’t bother me a bit because he’s the right doctor for me. But I’ve read stories about people in the UK rarely being able to see their family because they live more than an hour away… I think Americans just have an insane love of driving that isn’t as universal as a lot of us think.

Multiple times I have had DPD as the delivery courier and they ALWAYS messed it up. On rye days when I said I would be at home, they didn’t deliver on those days. On the days I said I wouldn’t be home, they tried to deliver on those days. Then an iPhone went ‘missing’. From overnight delivery from a well-known supermarket, it eventually took 34 days to deliver the phone. I was promised compensation by the service provider and it was never backed up.

I would love to see him take on blizzard mainly because they keep saying hey this game is exactly how we made the last one the remake is exactly same as the original then you look at it I'm like well when this guy summons in his enemies I don't have to have a seizure warning in the original in the new one I'm going to have to have a seizure warning anytime I bother playing or streaming it or anything hell it'd be great if the game itself decided to State yes seizure warning as you start the game mainly because I get this loading screen option that pops up whenever my friend summon something in or I just get this random flashing thing across the screen the entire screen just flashes a few times and you're like I'm I'm getting blinded I already have to deal with a little bit of a seizure warning every now and then now I don't want to have to deal with it as bad it gives me headaches and stomach issues so I kind of want it to stop they keep saying we made fixes to the game so this stuff wouldn't be in it anymore but it still is

You might be blaming DPD for a lot of this, but business rates are lower and businesses know they can get away with a delivery surcharge at certain postcodes. Sometimes, it might not be DPD's fault.

A company is out to make money, the highlands are sparsely populated. If you stop them from charging these extras just expect delivery services to get cut off.
A place with a lower population will always incur a higher premium than high population places.
