Can we find somewhere to hide away in our narrowboat this week? And what embarrassing mistake to we make on this new canal? Narrowboat life when you have to keep moving means you never really know what the place is going to be like when you get there and we are searching for a quiet place in the busy season; it also means that we move on to canals and rivers which have different rules and ways of doing things and the Gloucester and Sharpness is very different indeed! It is such a good canal, Will. There are so many service points too for rubbish and water. There is a pumpout at Purton; it's a deep canal so no weed issues and mooring galore! Get down here!😂 Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻

I've been really interested in birds all my life Vanessa, but I have never seen a Cukoo that close, not least to have experienced the different M/F calls. Yes, we all know the male call, but thanks to you, I now realise, that the strange unidentified call I heard back a few weeks, was indeed the female. Thank you wonderful lady, such a joy to follow you. Happy Chugging.

It was so strange as the male normally only makes that call for breeding purposes, but their season for that would have been well and truly over? I also thought that perhaps cuckoos use the summer solstice as a call to leave the UK, but I can't find any research on this anywhere. At one point they were making a circle in the sky over the boat, but I just didn't catch that on camera. I love cuckoos and to hear them like that, and so many of them in one place, was just magical! Nice hearing about India and the Ospreys. Here in South Australia our local bird club has been helping to install nesting platforms around the coastline. I saw one recently with parents flying to and fro and you could just see the heads of the youngsters poking up above the top of the nest 😊

We all make mistakes! What a strange world it would be without them. I always find it ironic that the species that does the most damage to the earth i.e. humans, considers other species to be pests! Surely a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Thanks as always for another interesting and fresh video. Loved seeing the badgers on the night cam and hearing the Cuckoos. They do that incredible journey, just to breed and then they start their return, by the end of June, only the new cuckoos will be around and then they fly off too. What a lovely vlog Vanessa and Richards garden and those well hidden hides was magnificent, with all the different varieties of wild life he is a remarkable man to do this for every one to enjoy. In terms of internet, we basically followed everything that Colin and Shaun set up on their boat for internet.ruclips.net/video/vWRCEmySMEM/видео.html Hopefully this link will take you to their internet episode which is episode 42. It's such a good vlog as Colin leaves no stone unturned when it comes to detail. I lived in Japan years ago and when I first moved there, every morning I was annoyed by the sound of a "broken cuckoo clock" that went on forever at dawn. I prayed that this rude person would finally get their clock repaired! Little did I know, but eventually found out who my real neighbor was! The friend who educated me had a good laugh that I thought it was a clock and not a bird.

Interesting that India has been doing the Osprey thing. I have been watching a pair at Loch of the Lowes, they laid 3 eggs hatched two, and the chicks are now almost ready to leave the nest.

Vanessa, I was looking at your book on Etsy and wonder how many page entries there are both drawings and poems?
Good question, I have just added that information now. There are 90 pages as I have included an introduction and hand drawn map of the year's journey. There are 88 pages with a poem on one side and sketches on the other, although I do have sketches on the poem sides as well. It is an exact copy of 2022's journal. Thank you so much for your comment.
