This is a BONUS video, not a vlog. Panic not, the normal vlogs will follow. If you don't like these uncommentaried, real-time, slow TV videos then just skip this one eh? My other, normal vlogs have all the commentary you could ever want...
It's the bow camera recording in full of the journey seen in vlog form in vlog 177, from Market Bosworth to Snarestone at the end of the Ashby canal.
If you see the boat wavering all over the canal, it probably means I had my hands off the tiller while trying to film something. I wasn't on the gin & tonic, honestly...

Theme music: "Vespers" by Topher Mohr and Alex Alena, from the RUclips music library
Thank you for not spoiling your videos with mindless music like some other u tubers.
Just perfect, no cd. no music, just the sound of nature and the little background of the engine, i envy you David, this is just amazing, so peaceful, great video, as always, thank you so much!
I have been ill in bed all day, just listening to the vlogs. Even without the visuals it is immensely calming and therapeutic.
I hope you got to feeling better.
These are perfect. RUclips is replete with vLogs, but videos like this are rare gems.
Ahh, lovely - I'm now looping this video on my laptop screen while working on the big monitor. It's like I'm working from my very own boat and living the dream!! Thanks again, David, another great vid :)
Thank you. It's amazing just how many people don't understand that's exactly the idea of this kind of video :-)
Thanks David it makes me feel like visiting this wonderful country of yours
This video is so calming, stunning scenery, much needed during this current craziness.
Sunnyvaale
Brilliant, just need a 60” monitor in front of my rowing machine now and we can have a race.
The beauty never ends. I have seen this one in particular 4 times, start to finish. And with the Vlogs it is the same. Getting to know all the trees and plants, the houses and pubs. And above all the beauty of the canals and rivers, the landscape and animals. Idyllic. So wonderful! Thank you very much
I love these videos, perhaps even more than the ones with music and talking. I can pretend I am there.
Thank you so much for this peaceful cruise. I love the ambient bird and other sounds. Hope your spring is wonderful!
Oh thank you so much for doing this for those of us who cannot be on the canals. It's exciting to see what's around the bend, can't thank you enough for this
Why would anyone watch the dross you get on tv when you can get excellent, relaxing videos like this on you tube. Thank you David.
thank you for taking us along for this beautiful and serene canal trip. it was so restful seeing greenery [ restful and calming] .we all remained quiet for the entire trip . cheers ; ]
Your videos have made me realize how beautiful English countryside is...
I love these types of videos. Unfortunately the hum of the engine and the natural sounds of the English countryside has a tranquilizing affect on me and I tend to pass out before the end.
So lovely. Thanks for the cruise.
Great video - silence and nature are somewhat undervalued I think.
Agreed!
This is so lovely. I have it on in the background on my big screen whilst writing and it's like meditation. Very calming.
Love this, well done. I totally get why so many narrow boaters love the Ashby canal...stunning.
They are beautiful and many people love them. I am one of those weird people who needs music or voice commentary. I live in the Rocky Mountains and have lots of nature, which we dearly love. I have played some of these silent crises while booking and baking just because it is beautiful, but seldom can even get through a whole video in one sitting. Crazy, I know! Very nice that you do some beautiful work for everyone’s preferences. Smiling
The sounds of the water and the birds are lovely, thank you for this
David, really like your videos, looks like a great life on the canals. Nothing like that here in the US. Richard
We have a few lakes that are big enough for "house boats" but certainly no meandering canals to go on and on. I sure wish there was something like it in the US, as I'd consider the lifestyle. But, it does make a holiday in the UK sound more intriguing.
My, my David - aren't you the wiley one. A masterful ending to a splendid video, with that perfect down -the-center plunge of that long tunnel, then breaking out to a Hollywood ending by setting your cruise control to follow the lovely long-legged lass all the way to the very end - where she gracefully walks over your boat on that bridge, just to break out into the sunlight for one more eye-candy view. Brilliant!
Great to watch at the end of a hard days work
I am sitting on the front of your boat and going through some beautiful country. Sensational!
To those 56 thumbs down, you sure are hard to please.
A very pleasant trip down the canal. I was blessed to have a bird singing its heart out in tree outside my window. I even tried to wipe some bugs off my computer screen. No luck. thank you.
Keep posting these and I wont need to buy a boat..
In Norway we have a lot of this, we call it "Slow TV" 😊👍
This splendid video should be a Tourism Authority Tool To Sell Britain To Tourists!
You surely should get paid for it.
David... Seems to me your real-time, narration-free, slow TV videos should be supplied to care homes and hospitals to soothe the sick and the care-worn! I'm neither of those (yet) but thanks anyway.
Thankyou for these x i watch them anyway but much needed in this current climate of restricted movement x
Certainly beats watching grass growing.
how could anybody not love 177a. beautiful scenery. just like mid Maine where I'm from Dexter Maine.
love these x almost like being there x thankyou x
Solo boating has it's upsides, your own pace, relaxing. Now two can be very different. Your interaction with natural surroundings are ...shattered. As the voice below says 'chuck out the anchor your chips are done'
David, that was just so so wonderful. Such a relaxing journey, not racing through the cut, just cruising the cut, being at one with Nature. You are so lucky to be able to indulge in your great lifestyle. I am so so jealous LOL Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
I love the narrative of your blogs but also Have a great appreciation for the relaxation of the canal and natural sounds. Thank you so much for giving us both! I really appreciate them!
Have the CRT given any thought of adding some grass carp into the canal system? They would eat a lot of the vegitation that grows along the banks. I simply adore your videos. Splendidly peaceful.
Insomnia, motion-sickness, ornithophobia and Mondayitis, ... all cured!! Thanks David
1:08:48....and entomophobia.
WOW! so peaceful. Just you, your boat, and Mother Nature.
just love it.no bad music.
Outstanding video...one of the finest I’ve ever seen...thank you for this...couldn’t agree more about the music😇. Yes indeed put on your own cd.😅 if you want music...love the sound of the water, the birds, boat and the wind, the trees rustling!
Listening while I work :D
Absolutely love this
Excellent 🙏 thank you
It reminds me of the only time I have watched and enjoyed Wimbledon tennis, which was when I was in the Middle East. They hadn't paid for the commentary, with only the on court microphones available. Bliss.
Absolutely love this, so peaceful and relaxing. 👍
I've enjoyed watching all your videos. I've gotten tired of T.V. and all the stupid programs. And I love these 2 hour videos. It brings back memories. Keep up the good work.
i do love these videos, you just get a sense of calm, its almost like meditation.. I reckon that is what that noisy engine is for up the other end. Its stop you from falling asleep at the tiller..
Bird song enhancing the video .... I wish I could identify them. Black headed crow and thats about it!
Makes a nice change.
Absolutely beautiful. Thanks...
When your speeding along and can't quite catch up to someone walking there dog, priceless.
Because of YOU and your wonderful vids of the canals, I have just returned from exploring the old locks along the Muskinghum River in Lowell, Ohio. Neat! I was able to understand what I was seeing! Thanks!
Excellent! Hope you had fun.
So peaceful and relaxing. 🙂
Love how the birds sing in this film, especially the Black Birds, they are the ones that give me the energy in the spring and summer. Hearing both them and the ducks at the same time is fantastic.
26:09 I nearly jumped out of my chair while I was working!
I suspect you could have made the trip in less time with a Javelin Bass boat with a 300 hp Mercury outboard. Plus the 40 foot rooster tail behind you could water shrubbery (and people) at every turn. But, I imagine people would frown on the noise and wake. LOL
Thanks for another great video. For me this reinforces how beautiful England is. I lived in England (London, mind) for about 4 years when I was younger, and I felt people really under-appreciated the beauty England has to offer.
Plays whenever I can play it while at work. Hopefully by the time we get to try this, the canals won't be choked by stressed-out hoards of people.
the sound of nature is very beautiful especially when it is accompanied by very beautiful images of the English countryside thank you for this video of very high quality, but there was there a match of foot on television, because there was not many people on the canal, lol
David, you will never know how much you help me. I replay your videos in my mind while undergoing Radiation. Keeps me out of the unpleasant and into peace and beauty. You have given many a wonderful gift.
That is good to know (that they help, not that you are undergoing such unpleasant treatment, obviously). I wish you well.
So loved this video that I sat watching this on my TV in wide-screen. 😃😉 I was born and raised in the country side but now live in the city, so miss the wide open spaces and quiet of the country side, but can't afford to move back into the country side. I would if I could. Please please keep them coming.
Feels like I'm setting in the well deck enjoying the ride!!
Boats don't run on 'thanks'
it's only fair we all chip in and buy some diesel
Thank you!!
Bug at 22:22,, on a wide screen, alone at night..
scared the hell out of me, lol.
so very quiet, so peaceful.
I love these real-time videos! Sometimes I wish you just find a nice place to park, so we can have tea in the quiet, while listening to the birds and it's peaceful♡♡
The tunnel entry at 2:09.11, along with its dark reflection, looks like a black hole! What a wonderful video. The scenery you’ve captured is exquisitely lovely and interesting! A continual delight!
Why would anyone not like these videos?
Looking at your trip it's so nice. But right now in Dawlish Devon there is a thunder storm. And it's gone all dark. Hope you now haven't any. Safe journey.
Keep coming back to this when I cant sleep. Absolutely love it
I am watching this for atmosphere. I look a way to see what is on TV for only seconds, but the scenery can be almost jarringly different when I look back. Loving this video.
I am also guessing you probably need insect repellant for mosquitos. I know a person can stop anywhere in the mountains around here (the Cascade Mountains) and in about a minute you have a swarm ready to eat you.
No, no need. Please see my website FAQ page, cheers
After working in the machine shop, I come in ,cleaned up and start to unwind by visiting your vlog...Soo peaceful . Just puts my mind at ease...Thank you. Robbie
lovely country-side you've got on your side of the pond.
Been watching for a few days with bad weather here in my corner of the USA. Interesting and beautiful country and mode of transportation. Owned boats all my life, nothing to live on just cruisers and fishing boats. Always wanted to retire and live on a boat cruising to the good weather up and down the inter coastal waterway, nothing like the canals there but easy going if your not in a hurry, no locks but a few draw bridges if your ride is tall other wise just cruising. No real way to tie up either, mostly have to pay to dock in one of the marinas. Do have to look out for the fast cruisers and small fishing and pleasure boaters also. Not so laid back as you would think. Enjoy your videos though and am willing to put up with the annoying recommendations from youtube about everything remotely boat related, I don't follow any boaters here for that reason but if your vigilant and let them know your not interested in any of that other stuff then over time they will slow to a trickle in your recommendations. Keep your bilge dry and your bow ever in the wind my friend.
Thanks brother!! Well done!!
Oh, the abridged version. When is the extended director’s cut coming out?
That area is very pretty. So peaceful. Looks like such a romantic way to travel.
Very relaxing. It is like going on holiday for a couple of hours
I am saving this one for mental health days.... Hope you get compensated, for your aid to mental health. Thank you Sir. Cyber Cruising the Cut from the office. WHAT! No Locks? in this bagel...
Wow just stunning, loved the very wide screen, definitely one of your best, cheers :-)
Thought I was actually sitting at the bow end. Kept half expecting a shout from you to put the kettle on.
Sitting in my chair in Nashville Tennessee listening to Marillion (Jesters Tears) watching your forward camera.. BRILLIANT!
Excellent choice!
Love this so much, just what my anxiety ridden brain needs. Thank you.❤️
Yes after listening to the neighbors around where I live and the sirens and all the noise all the time, this is such a nice peaceful break!!
I've been falling asleep to this for a week now I love it so much 😊
Me too I never make it past 20 minutes before I'm asleep.... I'll never get to the end.....
Perhaps the most relaxing thing my computer has ever shown me. Lovely.
Beautiful and peaceful. I wish more people would stop putting obnoxious music on over their video's
Love the real time vlogs. On a 60" screen its like almost sitting at the front of the boat
Beautiful video. But I feel you only gave 65 percent on this, you know with the letter box and all. LOL
Stunning. The birds singing just add that little something extra. 🙂
The less things moving within your eyesight the more relaxing the journey, the vegetation has texture as opposed to brick walls, concrete blocks, railings and fences..
at the beginning of the vid i was waiting for Pink Floyds Grantchester Meadows to kick in. None the less very relaxing trip.
I'm seriously thinking of coming back and seeing if my friend still has his, (even though, its been a few years). Or David , didn't you say you can rent one these days. I was thinking of renting 1, for 2 or 3 months. Can you do a short video on what they cost? Thanks.
Beware long-term rentals like this, many people are hiring their boats on lettings websites without the correct insurance, safety checks, business license etc. Costs I have no idea about for that length of hire, sorry.
It is ASMR David. I've been using these videos for years. Help me nod off when I'm stressed about work.
this was a great....thank you
Such an idyllic journey. The bird song is especially noteworthy!
Sure David. No GT eh? You're not as think as you drunk you are? I have this playing while I work. Love it. Thanks!
Thanks for ride. Very peaceful. Watched while in my workshop. Blessings from Australia.
