  • The sacrament is the only ordinance we repeat for ourselves and we repeat it weekly. [click] As that by itself denotes importance, let's do a deeper dive into understanding the sacrament.

I was just listening to one of your videos while doing yardwork when this came out. I must say, your videos are definitely contributing to my testimony. They help me realize how intricate the gospel actually is. Thank you for your work.

I feel that the blood is the higher law. After baptism of water, the bread, mastering the body is the first steps to be willing and be instructed and commanded that we qualify for the Spirit. After that, the blood which feeds the body, supplies life, is flowing through the body and the Spirit is with us as we endure to the end. Moses 6:60 For by the water ye keep the commandment; by the Spirit ye are justified, and by the blood ye are sanctified; this quickening the inner man.

The two prayers being a lower and lesser law rings true to me! Heavenly Father wants us to have as much of His spirit and blessings as we are willing to accept!

I have noted that the prayer on the bread states that we have the Spirit if we are "willing to" do those three things (take on His name, always remember Him, and keep His commandments (repentance and enduring to the end appear to underlie those efforts)) while the prayer on the water states that we have His Spirit if we "always" remember Him (which no one remembers Him always throughout every day, which shows that we need the Savior in spite of our best efforts). The second prayer denotes the central necessity of the grace of Jesus Christ while the first denotes the acceptance of grace through His invitation to "Come. Follow me" and become perfected in Him and with Him in our day to day lives.

First, thank you for your videos!
As to the Sacrament, my thought on the Bread and water are these.
The bread or the body of Christ reminds us of the mortal life of Christ, that he willingly descended from his throne and took a mortal body. He then shows us the example while in the flesh that we can be in the world but not of the world. He performs ordinances needful for salvation. He teaches us about many of principles of the gospel, faith, obedience, giving credit to the Father. Then he Lay's down his mortal body that we all might live.
The blood of Christ I feel is the atonement part of his mission, the hour he spends in the garden of Gethsemane taking upon himself the sins of all mankind. I believe this because he is the only one I have heard of suffering so much that blood came from every pore.
Also, many people have died on the cross so it was not a singular event, but in the event he gave up his spirit willingly, he finished his mission on earth.
I think of the sacrement in these terms.
    Thanks again!

Thank you for teaching this important Lesson. How important it is for us to know how the sacrament is related to the atonement. We should all be more humble and reverent on that special occasion.

I'm sure there are many other things that go with the sacrament but this was a very good explanation of the sacrament Gore sacrifice of Christ. We are to always remember our Lord and savior Jesus Christ even throughout the week.

Thank you for this thoughtful treatment of the Sacrament. You make several important points. One of them is that "His Spirit" is not the Holy Ghost. At least in part, I think the confusion has been fostered by the notion that the Sacrament is simply renewing baptismal covenants ... something we hear repeated less and less often from the pulpit. I do not know if the omission of a baptismal reference was intentional or not, but it is welcome. We have multiple recorded instances of Jesus instituting the Sacrament and He never connects it with the remission of sins. We come to the Sacrament table not to repent, but because we have repented. "By the water we keep the commandment, by the Spirit (Holy Ghost) we are justified, by the blood (of Jesus Christ) we are sanctified." The Sacrament is an Aaronic Priesthood ordinance and as such is part of the preparatory gospel. Repentance and baptism prepare us for the Holy Ghost and a remission of sins (justification). The Sacrament prepares us for receiving the Spirit of Christ and sanctification ("I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you.") [I would also suggest that the temple initiatory ordinances are Aaronic Priesthood ordinances and part of the preparatory gospel as are some of the temple covenants, e.g. obedience and sacrifice.]
Thank you again for your work.

I believe the prayer over the bread is like baptism (an Aaronic Priesthood ordinance). We make a covenant to be willing to take upon us His name, always remember Him, and keep His commandments. In baptism, we are washed clean. However, it isn’t until we are confirmed (Melchizedek priesthood ordinance) that we become members of His church and receive the Ghost. I believe the sacramental water represents the higher ordinance of baptism by fire /gift of the Holy Ghost that sanctifies us (washes our spirits) and changes us internally.
    Just my thoughts

Question. The sacrament renews our baptismal covenant, but I fairly recently learned the sacrament is a renewal of all our covenants. I would love to learn more about this.
I really can't find a good scripture reference that talks about the sacrament renewing our covenants. Some talk about only those who are baptized taking the sacrament weekly, but I would love to hear more to connect the sacrament to our covenants.

Gosh, this one made me stop, think and analyze more than before.
I noticed that with the bread (body) the primary difference is based on obedience and accordingly “always” having his spirit with us.
With the water (blood) we are asked to remember him only and accordingly have his spirit to be with us.
Seems to me that as we are obedient (bread) we are sanctified and able to have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost.
With the water, as we remember him only, we have his spirit with us. So, as you mentioned, an important but lesser law.
My question is: Why does the first prayer, that deals with obedience, happen to be about his body (bread) ? Perhaps since the body is the Temple? Ordinances?
And then, why the ‘lesser’ law of remembering only with his blood? Perhaps the blood is shed for all, but the body reserved for those that make higher covenants?
Lots to consider and think on. Thank you!

I have a question that is not on the subject of this video. I don't know where else to ask. In 1 Nephi 5:18 Lehi prophecies " The plates , "the brass plates", will go to every nation , kindred, tongue and people who are OF HIS SEED. I have always thought that all of Lehi's family came with him to this continent. And yet this prophecy says that others of his seed will be spread through out the whole world. Can you clarify this statement by Lehi.

Later in the book of Mormon they spread out and many even sail off to other lands. It's still all Lehi's children's children's children's children etc
