    Misleading to say the combat knife is absolute shit; it will definitely kill majoris enemies far more efficiently and has easily unlockable fencing variants. It becomes a good offensive tool for vanguard and good defensive tool for snipers. This also doesn't factor in the dash attack upgrade that can stagger and hit in a radius

      Yeah saying it's not good probably means they didn't use it enough. It's honestly my preferred melee. I think the tac should also get it.

      I have been playing for about 60 hours across all the classes and find the knife far better than the chain sword. Quicker attacks means less time animation locked and can get a fencing version before having to go into tier three missions for purple armoury data.

    • @heronwhisky
      @heronwhisky 3 дня назад +1

      @@DonKarlioni I didn't like the stat drop on that first fencing but the purple tier one changed the game. Even with balanced the speed of the parry animation makes it exceptional at parries. You get an aoe sprint attack. You can chain heavy attacks back to back. It's seriously a powerhouse of a melee weapon.

    • @wtfronsson
      @wtfronsson 3 дня назад +2

      It's a very good weapon once you are shoulder bash spamming. And it doesn't need to kill groups of minoris quickly when it's paired with a melta rifle. It's kind of preferable to have the melta ammo for hordes, and then melee the bigger targets down as efficiently as possible.
      If you have the larger parry window talent on Vanguard, the Balanced knife is worth considering. It's not too hard to get the timing right, and the stat benefits are nice. This is probably the one case where Fencing isn't an auto-pick.

      Furthermore, having a good backup is really nice in this game. You are bound to go to melee or fall back on your secondary, having good secondary is such a pressure reliever, and heavy can help with two, the bolt pistol for tactical, vanguard, sniper, bulwark and plasma pistol also for bulwark.

    • @jaxsonbateman
      @jaxsonbateman 3 дня назад +1

      Do they both get full exp though? I believe the exp of the level is split between the two - so if you've used your primary 60% of the time, and your secondary 40% of the time, then they'll get a 60/40 split of the exp (while your melee weapon gets a full 100, so something like the Tac with a 60/40 split would be 60/40/100, with the 100 being melee).
      Next time I do a 3-weap-class mission I'll try to keep an eye out to confirm. If what I'm saying - which is what DRT is implying - is correct, then you're halving your exp by not playing a class with a melee weapon, because you're missing out on that 100.

      Really interesting! I had been keeping my loadout 1 weaps for entire missions as I've been wanting to max those first before moving on, but it definitely seems like swapping to a new loadout at each drop pod is the key. I'm curious if you actually have to engage in combat with them, or if you can swap to each loadout then resume with your first. More testing!

    The key question here, as someone that hasn't experienced Ruthless yet myself - are you going to be capable of comfortably doing it with 1-2 relic weapons, and 1-2 levelling weapons, assuming that you've levelled up the class itself to have all the perks you'd want for a Ruthless-level build (ie. I think it's about level 21 or 23 for a Bulwark to 'complete' their build)?
    If you can complete Ruthless with just the class' strength and 1-2 relic weapons, then gunning for Bolt Pistol + Chainsword might be worth it, as that extra exp from the higher difficulty is going to be worth it to bring your actual desired weapons up to speed.
    If you can't complete Ruthless just relying on that, then it's probably not worth it, given that your desired weapons need exp anyway - may as well just play on Average or Substantial and get 3 weaps worth of desired exp (and 3 weaps you plan on using), plus class exp, at the same time.
    Furthermore, unless the weapons are immediately allowing you to jump into at least Substantial difficulty, then I'd argue that it's worth using levelling weapons - the ones you actually want to be using - until you reach that point. If you're sufficiently good at the game (which you would be if you have relic weapons you're considering using anyway), then you can jump straight into average with starter level weapons, no problem. Hell, is going to Substantial even going to be worth it if you're trading a whole weapon's worth of experience gain for that extra class experience?

    • @haatothetomato
      @haatothetomato 2 дня назад

      I mean, Tactical, Vanguard, and Sniper only have the bolt pistol and either chainsword or Knife between them so where else would your exp be going? and as great as the regular pistol is at popping hormaguants heads you really should be using and learning the Plasma Pistol regardless of exp and then dealing with waveclear as the strengths of Bulwark and Heavy were designed to do. Assualt is N/A(kicked in ruthless). The real advantage to focus leveling a class and Relic tiering their loadout is in order to clear Ruthless reliably, for the Relic Weapon data, exp isn't even part of the equation there. The first thing you should upgrade with your first Relic weapon data after clearing ruthless with artificer-tier weapons is the weapon that will allow you to get more Relic weapon data, certainly not the bolt pistol.
      Now, Im leveling my classes across the board however I feel like it, and yeah purple Melta Rifle, Bolt Pistol, Chainsword, and Knife make the easier difficulties smoother and I can upgrade to a higher difficulty on that class sooner, the exp isn't being 'wasted' because its contributing to their Relic upgrade, but it they were already Relic tier the exp would only be wasted if there was something else I could and would like to level. If I level a Bulwark from level 1, im not using Artficer or Relic tier bolt pistol and Chainsword. I shall level the Plasma pistol and Power Sword, because that is what I'm going to be using, and if I don't level them now when the Bulwark should be doing minimal and average difficulty out of sheer lack of perks, then when should I level them? I leveled tactical alongside the regular bolt rifle instead of an Artificer Melta, because I intended to use Grenade Launcher at Artifice tier and there is no way im clearing Substantial with just the upgraded pistol and chainsword. When I level the Plasma Rifle from 0 will I do it on Ruthless with Relic tier Pistol and Chainsword? NO thats crazy. Substantial tho... I could manage Inferno and then Decapitation once the Plasma is upgraded to Master Crafted, and that Artifice weapon data is the real value.
      TLDR: You are right that our brothers should just level what they are actually going to use, on a difficulty that the weapon is currently effective in, otherwise later one can only pretend it doesn't exist while leveling it in a higher difficulty, which is going to be much harder given that its unlikely to be a pistol in leveling limbo.
      This whole Idea of leveling the Bolt pistol first is stupid, cause that will happen naturally on the classes that have no other option, those with other options should level them while they can on the lower difficulties when its usefull. The real reason to upgrade a loadout to Relic first is to have a Build to reliably clear Ruthless and get Relic Weapon data, exp comes naturally by doing the hardest difficulty you can reliably clear and then caps out when you don't have weapon data to spare for the upgrade.

  • @haatothetomato
    @haatothetomato 2 дня назад

    When leveling the class in the beginning use whatever you are going to use for that class later in order to level it while you can. When the class is level 20 instead of level 2 you don't want to do a lower difficulty just cause you can't bring a Primary that can do more than scratches. When you don't have an (viable) alternative available to level instead, yeah having an already upgraded Pistol and Melee is nice, and will get you to a higher difficulty sooner. But not that much sooner. It will happen naturally so there is no way to force it anyway.
    What you should actually do, after playing around and getting a feel with the classes at base and their better weapons, choose one build you saw online, and LOCK IN. the GOAL is to farm Relic Data from Ruthless difficulty, for the first time with Artificer Gear, and then later Reliably clear with a team, and preferably in a solo speedrun. Hell, If you don't have Artificer Weapon Data from Substantial your weapons Exp will cap at 7500, so don't procrastinate that at least.
    If you truly want to min max and level all the classes and their best weapons, the only thing worth remembering is that the Melta is Vanguards only Great primary, while the Tactical also has the Bolter w/ GrenadeLauncher and the Plasma Rifle, so level the Melta in tandem with Vanguard first to maybe Artificer and then do Tactical using the other 2, with the Melta still in reach and ready if you need it. Pistols and Chainsword/Knife will level naturally as you play Tactical/Vanguard/Sniper. Other than that there is just the Plasma Pistol, if I had to choose i'd level it with the heavy first, BUT I DON'T HAVE TO CHOOSE because it will level organically as I play both classes.

  • @jaxsonbateman
    @jaxsonbateman День назад

    Ok, between comments in the video and in the comments, I decided to do my own testing. Here's what I've discovered:
    * Primary, secondary and melee weapons all get their pool of exp that totals to the total of the map, after Gene Seed and bonus exp is added (so if your class earns, say, 1300 exp, then each weapon slot will get 1300 exp). This means the idea that heavy splits its exp between primary and secondary weapon is wrong.
    * Using different weapons via the loadout droppods will potentially split exp between the different weapons used. I say potentially, because in multiple tests I did see this to be the case (with the amount seemingly correlating to how many 'checkpoints' the weapon was equipped as part of, thus giving the weapons equipped at missions end the biggest share due to mission completion), but my final test just then resulted in my initial loadout not getting any of the share, and I'm not sure why (I definitely used them and killed some enemies between the start and first droppod, but I also had a capped Combat Knife equipped, so perhaps the fact it couldn't earn exp turned it off the share for the other weaps). But basically, best to assume that swapping weaps does lead to split/shared exp. There's no additional exp, it's shared (ie. in one mission my three primaries got 61, 117 andd 817 exp for 995, which is the same as my Bolt Pistol and Chainsword earned).
    *The key one - a capped weapon still 'takes' exp even if you utilise droppods. On my vanguard test just then, I started with a capped Combat Knife, and swapped to an uncapped Chainsword (while using a Melta and a Bolt Pistol). The Melta and Bolt Pistol each got 965 exp, but the Chainsword only got 537, implying that the Combat Knife leeched 428 exp (that is, that exp was wasted). I will point out that it was capped at master-crafted; it's possible that a truly capped relic weapon would behave differently, but I'm skeptical.
    Basically, each weapon slot gets a full share of the exp, and you seemingly can't use loadout swapping to increase the total amount of exp, or to allow you to use a Relic weapon but get significant exp for a levelling weapon. The best you could do would be to use the Relic weapon until the final droppod, then use levelling weapons for the final sections so they get the mission completion share of the exp. Ultimately, using a Relic Bolt Pistol on, say, a lv 1 Bulwark is going to make it stronger, sure, but you're still going to have to level that Plasma Pistol at some point - and that's the whole catch with levelling weapons purely with the mindset that they're shared. I've heard reports from players working on capping their classes and weaps that exp, not armoury data or req, ends up being the biggest gate once you're doing everything on Ruthless, so foregoing a whole slot's worth of exp each mission because it'll make the character a bit stronger... well, that's something each player is going to have to decide for themselves.

Don't get me wrong, heavy is fun as hell.... but endgame running via solo or mp there are 3 classes that do everything better or solo without issues. And honestly idk if vanguard is on par or also better than heavy, think that would be more of a skill issue on which is better. So then you just have assault left, and we all know it needs some major love to get on level. Also, combat knife is a go to for classes that can use it simply because of the perks and speed which helps reacting to parries in time.

    Meanwhile you need 3 light into heavy for stomp on chainsword, and the kick and punch don’t have as wide an arc over the wide swing. I leveled sniper first and got very familiar with the knife.
