As always, amazing! The Acid Bass one is incredible, man!!
Another amazing video! Thank you too much for sharing your knowleadge! Just inspiring young techno producers!
Dude great video!! Classic techno sound, it's always been interesting how to do it! Thanks!!
Always killing it. Thanks Yan.
Jesus!! those first two are some of the best bass sounds i’ve ever heard
I got Yan Cook records since he start and I knew this guy was special..fuoriclasse!
Happy Friday!!
Gunna dive into abelton after work and play around with these tips. Thanks for the sound design inspiration!
Brilliant Yan, thanks for the video
I absolutely love that first bassline, wish there was an entire track with it
Recently discovered your channel and have been going through entire back catalogue of recipes, they are so valuable and inspiring for the type of music i want to make. Please make more :)
Thank you sensei. Amazing as usual. Much love
Thanks for these great videos 👏👏
Thank you so much Yan for spitting mad knowledge :D
Your videos are so good. They literally brought me back to making techno after a break! I was writing techno for 2 years and ended up in depression that I cannot create the music I want and get that particular sound, ended up selling all my gear and thinking I wont be doing this again.
But thanks to you I`m back in the game again!
Great as always !!!
that nr.1 bass is intense, love it, great work
Love those Recipe videos, thx 🙏
Man song 3 needs to be released! Love this heavy dubtechno!
Yan you absolute legend ✨✨
What a great video. Thank you for making it.
Hey Yan, thanks for the recipe! It saved me a lot of time and tastes really good!
your tutorials are definitely amazing gift during these really strange, disturbing times
This is what i'm talking about! Awesome tutorial mate
I like that you not showing a whole ableton project, a lot of details are confusing newbies
I can see you love number 4 haha Thank you for amazing content!
Awesome bass♥ you make me believe tha actual techno is being very old school and punch♥
ffs i literally just spent about 3 hours sound designing a new techno bass on U-he Diva to go with my 303. Yan Cook makes almost the exact sound I was after in STOCK PLUGIN. Godlike, as usual. Fkin love you Mr Cook. edit: coulda done with this 3 hours ago tho. Bass2 is unbelievably nice. I'm nicking it.
That's why you should always explore what's available and know it really well... stock plugins can do wonders if you know how to work with them well. Sure Yan makes this for general availability but I wouldn't be surprised if he actually used most of the stock stuff for his tunes.
@@silakaelxis Exactly! Operator, Collision and Wavetable are some of the best soft synths you can use, period. And two of those synths can do stuff ONLY they can do. I can hear Collision on a lot of Yan's tracks, there are not many synths out there that can sound like it. To be honest, the best value third party plugins are fx - reverb, tape emulators, compressors etc. I don't really use any of my third party soft synths anymore except Razor.
@@benearle271 Absolutely mate, I got a DFAM and a TD-3... apart from that, everything is stock. Only plugins are indeed for FX and occasionally Serum, but less and less these days.
@@silakaelxis u guys know what's up - knowing your tools > having lots of tools
303 is the Ultimate technique since the late 80s. Never stop a Running System.
Gratitude goes beyond words
First bassline i like. Very hypnotic. Needs somos hats haha
Would love to see something about coverart or how to choose sounds to make the song blend nicely
Einfach der beste 👍
Thanks for recipes now it's time to cook
Another blinder, thanks Yan!
Wooouuw great Job.....
Thank you!
Woah second groove is nasty !! 😎
thank you
What a legend, seriously, this shit is so useful
man are u sick so good
Love bass 3! Reminds me of DVS1 - Black Russian
First thing I had on my mind! Such a brilliant song
Amazing track. DVS1 hushsound Minneapolis represent!
YEA!
Thanks Bro !
Best intro ever lol
after way too long of looking for that max bass instrument, finally made this fucking solid as fuck bass
Thank you x
#3 is like THE classic techno signature bass.
Great content as always! I have one question. What would be your low end structure/group considering that you are using bass #2? Would you keep the kick rumble and a separate sub channel? Tips on how you group and structure your low end would be great! Thanks again for the content!
If I understood your question right, you should check my kick videos :)
that 44hz frequence shift changed my life 😂
can u explain?
Респект братишшшшка )
QUALITY
Love your sound design. But Im wondering with all the delays, long reverb tails, unison and frequency shifter in the low end - how do you control your phasing and prevent the sound from losing focus? Or do you run a sub underneath it separately?
nice quastion!!! Wonder me too
You check it in mono and adjust if necessary.
Yan, I love you
2nd bass is sick! I also have a question: I want to try and start working with more physical stuff instead of just in Ableton with my mouse. What do you recommend as a first purchase? I've been looking at the digitakt but I see you doing crazy stuff with the digitise as well.
hope you have the time to answer. thanks anyways. :)
It's hard to recommend something specific, all depends on what you want to do. Maybe take a look at Ableton Push. Elektron`s stuff is pretty great too :)
Hey mate, nice tricks as always. I really want to know how do you adjust the frequency shifter? Do you use the note frequency?
By ear 👂
@@YanCook nice! Thanks mate!!
This may seem like an amateur question, but where can I find the ‘bass’ instrument used for Bass 1? Couldn’t find it in Ableton.
Creative Extensions Pack, you can find it on the Ableton site.
that 44hz frequency shifter trick sounds insane
Yan can you explain this a little bit ? Why does shifting the freq UP by 44hz introduce such a nice, grimey low end?
@@slowyaroll762 I presume the number (44hz) is specific to the source sound. So another patch might sound better at a different rate? My guess is it's a trial and error approach. I could be wrong, but I presume Yan spends a fair amount of time tweaking before he records these, then he just has everything written down and types it in during recording to make the video clear and concise for viewers.
@@benearle271 yeah I hear you - I saw him do the 44hz trick on a few different source sounds (and tried it myself too) and it seems to sound great! So I'm curious if it was the case you're mentioning or if it's something specific about the 44hz increase
@@slowyaroll762 interesting! Well it's the fundamental frequency of F, maybe something to do with that?
Someone help me out here. Is this baseline along with rumble bass that you’d have in techno? Because in tech house the baseline is a lot more deeper and suby
What is the very first plugin for the first bass? Looks like some stock plugin I've never seen before... Is it a M4L device?
Creative Extensions Pack
same im like .... wait what XD
U are god
Where can I find instrument Bass, it it from lax for live package ?
Creative Extension Pack by Ableton.
Has bass 1 been released ?
I didn't finish these.
whats the name of the instrumetn weused for the first pattern? i managed to get it through another instrument but never could i find one just called BASS.
Max4Live instrument, you can find it on the Ableton website.
@@YanCook Thank you Brother!
And while i have you:
I made a daily study program with your vids, and my sound improved drastically. Very gracious of you to share as much as you do with us. Thank you kindly, good Sir!
🙏🏽
Where is that BASS plugin on Bass1? Am i blind? great video!
Creative Extensions Pack
@@YanCook Thankyou! i see it now, I've just downloaded it.
What instrument is he using in first bass?
Max For Live Bass
Creative Extensions Pack
#masterclass
yo, in which ableton version is the bass synth ?
Creative Extensions Pack
@@YanCook thanks so much, i got drawn too much into elektron gear and i missed it
I wish I knew why some of these changes affected the sound the way they do
Obvious question - how did you learn sound design? You seem to really excel at it.
I just love it and I practice almost every day since 2007 🙃
@@YanCook ME TOO SINCE 2005
first
Awesome but bass 3 is more of a synth than a bass.
uhhh, some nasty basses around here
