"some people shame me for putting reverb but i don't care" best mentality for making music, make what you like no matter what you have to do to achieve it, LEGEND
Music making is a fluid creature and you have to be fluid as well. I don't know rules, because I'm the only one doing it in my area. Meaning I'm self taught. don't try to remember it all, only retain what matters to you. I will say the most important thing to know is your daw and how to fully utilize it. Short cut key commands and it's features. May save you from buying plugins you don't need and time.
@Christopher Bradley Yeah, i have always been thinking that some basic much music theory is more or less essential, but too much of it and you just end up with commercial mass produced crap. I like to experiment and see what happens when i try different things. Definitely not very professional, but i just want to have fun. This being said, i still recommend checking out "The House Of Kush", who actually has some really good videos with all kinds of tips. Just a whole different level than other music channels. Almost get a little "high" from just watching him explain things, lol! Its a very "comfortable" experience 😅
Definitely, it sounded sick with reverb. Obviously the mixing stage low cutting the reverb would help but boxing ourselves in with “never use reverb on a bass” limits creativity IMO
I love how you start off explaining a fairly simple principle then wind up making the bones of a cool track almost by accident, clearly explaining every step along the way. Your lessons are some of the best that I have found in terms of clarity and delivery
I´ve been making music for almost ten years, got a few label releases out there already, but this guy still manages to teach me new stuff. Like adding Freq Delay on a bassline - so f*cking simple but effective, I never would have thought that myself! Thanks Oscar
Every producer, no matter how experienced, misses some tricks and techniques. That's why channels like this one are such a godsend. One could only dream of witnessing top tier producers' methodology in the 90s when I started dabbling, unless you had contacts in that world. I remember emailing with some producers for some tips and samples that were generous enough to share them, but there was nothing compared to the endless ocean of educational content we have these days. This generation is truly blessed in many ways.
@@renx81 Yeap... I gave it a go in the 90s as well but had no contacts either which resulted in highly UNsuccessful career as a producer... Now I'm rediscovering my hobby thanks to the unlimited wealth of information on the topic... Have already taken some online courses and probably will purchase Oscar's as well. LIke his teaching style.
English is my secondary language, and many times I don't understand what exactly people saying. but I uderstand every single of your words like a native... That's so interesting -> clear mind transfer. Wonderfull work Oscar - thanks that you are !
Brilliant groove lesson. Wavetable synthesis and adjusting envelopes lfo's and the chord or note in sequence leads to great grooves. I'm curious if you can do a lesson that covers how to do the same with some of the modern keyboards like Yamaha ModX or older Roland Fantom G next for real time performance playing? I've seen some experts do it but none teach electronic music like you can. Thanks for the awesome lesson!
Love it ... I have been saying to my Ableton student "please do not start with Wavetable ..." ans the Reverb on bass ... your answer is just perfect ... (bassline is not only sub frequencies) ... you are an inspiration on the friendly style of teaching electronic music production :)
You are such a great teacher. I will watch videos of yours even if I understand the topic already because you relate concepts in a very simple and engaging way.
I love your channel. This is exactly the type of stuff I'm writing at the moment, and although a lot of this is elementary to me I'm still picking up a lot of subtle things I never realized before by watching your videos. Good stuff.
Magical tutorial as usual. I love your delivery and that you are willing to try stuff out, even though you are showing us how to do it... Confidence in your craft!
I know this video is a month old (and I'm way behind on your uploads, sorry Oscar!) but I tried this out and it has been AMAZING. Thanks friend! Also, can we please consider a 💅 segment that intros your latest color choice, cause I would be here for that so much. 😅💙 Them silver nails are 🔥
Thank you very much for your work, Oscar! Everything is very clear and accessible. I've been following your channel for about a month now. You have been a revelation to me. Thank you! I know that you love techno music. But I would like to ask you if there is an opportunity to make some tutorials related to minimal music, namely the Romanian minimal? If it doesn't bother you.
Wow I’ve been in the modular space for awhile and avoidant of DAW’s out of it being too overwhelming, but this video really showed me how the two worlds, and pros and cons of each, can work together to make something shmackin!
Over the ears of learning I realized that there's only so much you can learn about producing through watching videos only. The real teaching moment I guess would be to sit with you Oscar, and try building a track :D I think that would be the best possible thing that could happen to me
Playing a dotted bassline over the top of a Moroder bassline is a sick trick to use as well. You can have your Moroder be your main, driving bass, while the dotted bassline could come in and out during certain parts of the arrangement. Bandpass the dotted bassline so it doesn’t interfere with the Moroder 👍🏻
Thanks for the clear video Oscar. One technical question: at 10:03 you see Oscar changing the percentage of the wavetable form (Osc 1 Pos in matrix). For some reason when I do this I am not able to change it. The orange percentage line stays at 100%, which means I I can’t listen to other wavetable forms. I checked all settings and at first sight it seems all the same. Anyone know what causes this? Thanks.
I always love a dotted rhythm, insanely groovy! I also usually do two basses, a subby one and a low-mid ish one that has reverb on it, who shames reverb on bass though?????? btw it was nice running into you on Saturday at VK!
Well structured tutorial…as allways👍I recommend to try it out in combination with „orb hexachords“ - results can really get BIG! I love Your simple tips for the wavetable synth!!!

Reverb on a highpassed mid range "bass" layer is a good technique for making bass sound bigger without messing up the actual low end.

JUST USE LAYERS end of discussion lol
The dotted bassline is like magic in terms of danceability. I think it applies to delay settings as well.
Exactly! I'm sure it's the reason that 3/16 is the default delay setting in most plugins.
I’m addicted to dotted 8th delays
@@OscarUnderdog good take!

I really like the reverb on the bass
actually, it's not reverb on a bass. It's reverb on high frequency part of a bass, so dunno what a reason for shaming.)
