Hi. I bought a 200n after having used a NCS700 for a few years in guitar duo. Arthritis, carpal tunnel and age made handling the 700 difficult. Although a superb instrument, body size and barre chords not good. Bought the 200n. A new life! So soft on the hands. I took down the factory set action some and added d'addario composites. What a dream. It takes a bit of time to eq to a full body nylon strum sound in spite of the SRT and is not really the ideal axe to play if you are a rough right hand player. Take time to get used to the gentle requirements of this beauty! I put it through an old Yamaha EMX 500. Clean is not the word!! Thanks for your enthusiasm and professionalism. You made an auld phart feel validated!!
I originally bought the older SLG110 a decade ago. Loved it. Now have SLG200 steel string AND nylon. Main reason? Convenience. They can do everything, and the onboard tuner and effects are great. The design is so lightweight and comfortable, that everything else starts to feel really heavy and cumbersome. The 200 has been around for about 7-8 years now, so I’d be expecting an upgraded version soon? One upgrade that would make it a show stopper would be the addition of at least one electric guitar pickup, wired through the onboard preamp? If that signal could also be blended to the under saddle pickup already installed, it would truly be an almost unbeatable guitar for practice and even stage performance. YAMAHA, PLEASE ADD A MINI HUMBUCKER OR TWO!!!!😎
I got the SLG200S as a birthday present in October this year & it's amazing!!.. Fabulous for we insomniac guitarists who can't sleep at 3am & want to play without waking up the neighbours.. Sounds awesome through headphones but put it through an amp & man it's something else.. It goes into full on head turning, jaw dropping gig beast.. This thing is made for playing Stairway, Wanted Dead Or Alive, More Than Words etc live & ironically loud while still sounding like a 100% full bodied acoustic.. Downside is the £600 price tag.. Otherwise it's 100% recommended as a must buy for any guitarist!!🤘🎸✌
THANK GOD. I've gone through easily a dozen videos trying to see a silent strum, so bravo for not avoiding the obvious! I'm watching through to the end as a sign of thanks.
I bought this Nylon string about 9mos ago. It is a wonderfully made instrument. Great quality. Playing at night or on the couch while watching a movie is no longer a problem for those around me. Great sounds. I really appreciate the stereo effects in the headphones. Got it used so it didn’t break the bank. I would suggest to anyone who is stuck in a musical rut, buy one, and get unstuck. It is a wonder catalyst to go different places with your playing!
I have an early steel string SLG100 - it's fantastic. Bit of setup work, and it's a keeper. I'd like to get a nylon strung one, too - with the wide neck.
I prefer my classical guitars without electronics, somewhat of a purist that way. But I make an exception with this one from Yamaha. So much sound shaping potential, and creative possibilities.
I tried one today and really liked it, my only question is about how versatile it is - I was hoping it might be able to effectively function as both travel guitar and secondary electric, given the number of comparisons to having the feel of an electric. Another video I've seen implied you don't get much feedback from it, which made me wonder if you could use it with a standard guitar amp, but when I asked the guy in the guitar shop about running it through my Marshall MG, he advised staying away from crunch or overdrive tones, which I use quite a lot ... Has anyone else had any experience with this - or regularly (and successfully) uses an SLG200S with heavy overdrive tones?
Superb demo/review (as usual) Dagan! 🎵 Picked ours up second hand for 450 (like new). No regrets buying. Great sound and portability. Means we can practice at any time without annoying anyone nearby. Highly recommended.
I have the SLG100N- would I be doing any damage to it if I replace the nylon strings with phosphor bronze light strings to get more of a robust, bright sustained sound similar to on a steel acoustic? Thank you
I own 25 guitars and am considering buying both the SLG200N and SLG200S. I d like to know if everyone is pleased with the intonation on these guitars. Thanks!
Hi, many thank's for the review. I have the same guitar for a few days, and i wonder if there is a risk for the electronic part, to connect the stéréo out headphone mini jack to an hifi stéréo amp. In the manual, it is specified that nothing should be connected other than headset.Have you already tested; and do you think there is a risk ?.
@chrisw Tested. Steel strings on nylon design causes slightly detuning. Against nylon, where is tuning OK. But I cannot play on slim neck. Is it incredible difficult for me. Also tested. Therefore , unfortunately, I play on nylon design with Cobalt 09. Because on the world not exist zero fret 52 mm + metal string design. Thats my experience yet. Thanks for adices.
I would say get this if you really want it, but if next door neighbor noise is a concern I'd still get a standard electric (start, les paul, tele, etc.) and just play it acoustically if you are worried about noise. Unless your walls are REALLY thin, nobody will hear you from outside your house. This guitar IMO, is for if someone is close by you and it would be annoying to hear any sort of sound. I have one at my office, for example.
I did and it worked fine (also checked with Yamaha), but also ended up selling my 200S and got a 200NW. Not sure about putting steel strings on the nylon version. Don’t know if the construction is any different and can support the higher tension strings. Best just email Yamaha and ask.
tell me this guitar can be connected to a combo amplifier for an electric guitar? Or will you need to buy a guitar specially for this if you need an amplifier
Stu Beresford I purchased one of these guitars so i could practice and not annoy the wife ! i was going to build one as a project. After seeing demonstrations like this ,and as we know Yamaha make fine musical instruments i shed out £600 +.Because i have other quality acoustic guitars i only use it through head phones i must say i was very very disappointed so i purchase the headphones Yamaha recommended still not impressed it sounds absolutely nothing like what you hear on the demonstrations which will be played through an amp. It may be a very good and versatile guitar for gigging and playing through an amp but through head phones "alone" i dont think its worth the price, certainly not for my application .
quite noisy for a silent guitar, (refers to the trade descriptions documentation). can i sue you for a freebie? i've had one of these for a few Years now and they are very nice piece of kit.
It kind of sounds like a plastic bumblebee. Or a gnat trying to escape from a jar of reverb. But I guess it’s cool that people can see your shirttails and the waistband of your pants through the lower bout. No other guitar does THAT! .
It’s a toy for rookies and absolute beginners, it’s a toy only for travel, not for real live gigs ! It’s a scam and Yamaha should be ashamed! Fuck this guitar , please forgive my language, I’m utterly pissed because Yamaha won’t give me my money back , do not buy it “ you’re warned ‘
4:06 you can see him reach for a whammy bar. Dagan's awesome! Love the video
I bought one last month, and I could immediately play “The Sound of Silence”.
Very cleverly put!
A noisy silence 😂
:)
....a good sounding guitar,always gives you,inspiration.
lmao
thatnk you for showing the the silent part. you are the first one to actually do that in HUNDRED video presenters. lol.

1:17 THANK YOU for giving it a little strum silently to actually demo what it is targeted for. You just sold me! Love the finish on that one!!

My kingdom for a headless version too.

Exactly! Luckily this is the second vid that I see to hear the silent strum.
I just bought a 200N for travel purposes and it’s pretty amazing. Really great sound and plays so so well!

Sorry I took so long to Re:
Very light, you can’t use the body to get percussive stuff off of it. Worth the trade off!
Incredible, beautiful axes! You never leave anything out, Dagan! Splendid demo. I could use both styles.
Awesome plain language demo dude.
I’ve been flipping a coin on this gtar for years... your demo just convinced me to buy 👍
6:00 "My favorite setting is about one o'clock, as if it's one o'clock on a clock"
Have a nylon string Yamaha. The bridge was about 1/8 inch too high as received. Once it was lowered, however, it turned out to be a remarkable guitar.
That chorus is classsssss
I just love mine. Can get enough of that Chorus sound!!! Just love it!!!
That chorus! Wow, great vid. Now I really want one.
I have an early steel string SLG100 - it's fantastic. Bit of setup work, and it's a keeper. I'd like to get a nylon strung one, too - with the wide neck.
Is the SRT technology "worth it" over the prior models (which can be bought for 1/2 price used)? Thanks!

I have electric and acoustic guitars. thinking about the classical version. thoughts on this guitar. wide width vs reg ? thanks.
Do you like it?
Thanks for reviewing this
Dagen, You got me sold, now I have to wait for delivery
This looks amazing!!! I am convinced, I must have this!!!!!!!!

An excellent guitar. Anyone who hasn't tried one is missing out. Mine is connected to a blackstar stereo 10 v4
For some reason I read "Djent guitars" and was trying to figure out how they did it
Superb demo/review (as usual) Dagan! 🎵
Picked ours up second hand for 450 (like new).
No regrets buying. Great sound and portability.
Means we can practice at any time without annoying anyone nearby. Highly recommended.
I need to know what this thing sounds like with ample amounts of distortion
I fail to see or hear how these guitars are any more “silent” than any old electric solidbody (e.g., a Stratocaster) that isn’t plugged in.
Good point!
Good demo 👍🏻
I have the SLG100N- would I be doing any damage to it if I replace the nylon strings with phosphor bronze light strings to get more of a robust, bright sustained sound similar to on a steel acoustic? Thank you
Very Cool. Sounds great. And eliminates feedback naturally. Is there a 12 string version available?
can you restring the nylon wiht steel strings? would it some horrible?
The s version is designed for steel strings slg200s
I own 25 guitars and am considering buying both the SLG200N and SLG200S. I d like to know if everyone is pleased with the intonation on these guitars. Thanks!
can you plug a distortion on these guitars?
You can use whichever pedals you like!
6:31 Oh My Gosh...!
7:23 i expected Antonio Banderas to burst thru and thrash a Z on Dagans sweet shirt😂🤺
I immediately thought that would be a phenomenal guitar to play flamenco on, lol! Literally, from the first note played, I thought...Spanish guitar!
@@shaunmatthews4601 haha yess
my friend who was endorsed by Yamaha had this guitar. And one day I came across it in a guitar shop, it was damn expensive.
It's only 550 odd quid. Not that expensive really.
What is he pluggged into? How does it sound plugged into a clean amp?
Hi can i use yamaha slg110s as classical guitar
Hi, I have an SLG200S and I would love to have it with nylon strings but idk if its gonna hurt the guitar or mess smth, can u guys help me out?
How does it sound on distortion?

Should not be an issue
On type SLG 200 N is possible use metal strings Ernie Balls 09 (Cobalt) Thanks. Zero nut is 52 or 50 mm? Sorry for my weak english.
@chrisw Thanks...👍

how do I record to my computer with this?
There shouldn't be a problem putting ball-end nylon strings on the steel string version yea?
Have you done it? I see that there was no response. I am looking to put phosphor bronze on my SLG100N.
I did and it worked fine (also checked with Yamaha), but also ended up selling my 200S and got a 200NW.

@@Steven-zp8hf Thanks for getting back to me. I emailed Yamaha and hope to hear back from them.
“If the wife, the husband” wait what!
Will there be a Strat-shaped one
is it neck heavy?
Does it have distortion?
Should make a video on that weird custom shop Les Paul in the background on the right. More interested in whatever that is than the Yamaha :(
Can you play silent night
very nice studio
Intro riff?
Look out! That guitar is a g-g-ghost!

Wow sounds beautiful ❤️❤️
Getting mine for this Christmas cant wait to pick it up from PMT Northampton next week but my wife will not allow me to have it until the 25th.
Sounds like it has compressor included

Big Yamaha fan. Have 2. I'm sure this thing is quality, but the future is not for me.
I would buy it if it had Bluetooth. It is really lacking in my opinion. It is 2020 🙄
Bluetooth is only good for MIDI. Otherwise, you get too much latency.

Now that's silent! wait i have the video on mute...
I think you are what Russell Brand thinks people think of him
This tool doesn't seem to understand that this instrument is supposed to be played plugged in! Hence the name "Silent Guitar!"
It kind of sounds like a plastic bumblebee. Or a gnat trying to escape from a jar of reverb. But I guess it’s cool that people can see your shirttails and the waistband of your pants through the lower bout. No other guitar does THAT! .
silent.. and almost invisible too.
I've heard worse. At least I think I have...
A swiss army guitar? Can I use it to eat my porridge?
maybe not...
love these guitars...who wants to buy me one?
Using a pick with a nylon emulator lol
Really doesnt sound as good as a quality regular acoustic guitar!

Kinda t no e wood
Still sounds crappy to me, glorified practice guitar..
I tried one at a Yamaha store this morning it didn’t sound good in real life either
Cringed when he demonstrated the nylon. Please get someone who can play. Just having tattoos is the easy bit. 🙄
Just LOVE the TONE of that Spruce TOP.😂🤣😂 That guys just got to be joking. Shouldn't be allowed anywhere near that guitar🤔🤨🙄
