A great and succinct video. I've always wanted to know how this guitar is made and sounded. Now I know. I find it a bit quacky sounding, almost harpsichord like. I'm not sure if this sounds like this only in the video or if it differs live? Pretty cool nonetheless. Thanks for the time and effort put into making this video. Cheers!!

Thanks for such a good review, you have really good presentation and explain clearly (thumbs up). I tune in NST (or C Pentatonic) C G D A E G which requires light light top strings and heavy bottom (in relation to the top) i.e. .09 to.54. I now own four of these guitars I absolutely love them one of the things I don't think you mentioned is they won't feed back which is fabulous As opposed to a normal acoustic guitar
You show plugging this into the line-in on the mixer. The guitar is almost certainly a Hi-Z instrument level output. That may have contributed to the hiss and possibly made the sound quality suffer, as the mixer would be expecting a much higher signal level. I would be curious if there is a difference if plugged into an instrument input or through a DI box.
It is a standard line out on the guitar 1k ohm impedance and the input on the desk is switchable. It sound a lot worse through Hi-Z because of the impedance mismatch, but good thought . . 🙂

Thank you . . . 🙂
perfect guitar, just got it recently, love it
🙂
very solid review. Thanks man
No problem! thanks for watching . . 🙂
very good review, I'm planning to get one when funds are in.
Thank you very much 🙂🙂 The Yam is a good choice!
Cheers!!
Thank you . . Glad it was helpful! I agree with you about the sound.
I wish i had that kind of guitar. I have a cheap one (30$) and i bought it 5 years ago and still using it now 😂
Btw nice review!!
Thank you . . 🙂
They can be surprisingly good for the money can't they 🙂
Would this guitar sound as nice plugged into an acoustic amplifier or an electric guitar amp, or is it more for the way your using it? It sounds wonderful and I’m sure your playing it doesn’t hurt. Really enjoyed this video, cheers.
Good suggested test . . I'll have to try for you. I think I might have to do a follow up video at some point anyway . . 🙂
what does it sound like not plugged in? I'm guessing like an electric not plugged in...?
Thanks for such a good review, you have really good presentation and explain clearly (thumbs up). I tune in NST (or C Pentatonic) C G D A E G which requires light light top strings and heavy bottom (in relation to the top) i.e. .09 to.54. I wondered if you, or anyone else, has tried this guitar with the same and if so what do you think? Cheers J.
I haven't, but maybe someone else will see the comment who has 🤔
Beautiful review, many thanks
Thank you very much . . 😊
great review , thank you , i have an older version of this guitar and the pickup as just stopped working for some reason , but its been brilliant , debating wether to try getting it fixed or buying a new one
that's a shame . . if it is just the pickup, they can be replaced easily enough. unfortunately, If the electrics have gone it could be expensive. 😒
I.ll see can i find someone to take a look at it . see what can be done . thank you for replying and advice . much appreciated 👍
@@bbfeign1 That really depends where you live . . most countries have musical instrument shops or luthiers who could fix something like that . .
Yes, please test the nylon string variant!
Will do! 🙂
Wicked playing... Lovely guitar... I like all Yamahas...
Thank you . . . they make great instruments . . 🙂
I saw this guitar on Star Trek TOS (1966)
🙂
I now own four of these guitars I absolutely love them one of the things I don't think you mentioned is they won't feed back which is fabulous As opposed to a normal acoustic guitar
Yes, they are good for not giving feedback .. 😊
It sound a lot worse through Hi-Z because of the impedance mismatch, but good thought . . 🙂
Not to be pedantic but steal should be steel. That aside your review is excellent and I am very impressed with the instrument
Yeah, this has been pointed out before, but once the video is uploaded it's too late. Thanks anyway . . 😊👍
Wonderful review, well done.
I wsh you would have discussed the nech shape and feel. Also the size and feel of the frets.
You opinion of the factory set up would be nice also. I respect your opinion.
Thank you.
Thank you . . I haven't finished yet so I will bare your questions in mind. I'll be doing a review soon of how I've found the guitar over time and comparing it with it's brother (the SLG200N) . .🙂
Very cool, thank you
The guitar looks and sounds fabulous.
But it's all about playability as you know.
You play wonderfully by the way
@@geneschulp8598 It does play really nicely, but after a couple of hours the top wing sticks into your ribs. But I've 3D printed a round edge to help prevent it digging in.
Hi, great video! Quite certainly the best one. I am thinking on buying one. Significant time has passed since you made this video. What are your impressions now and how does it sound through headphones? Cheers!
Glad it was helpful! I've had it for a month now and I really love it. The headphones sound is very good but all round I can''t get the chime you expect from a steel strung guitar being strummed. The sound is very rich, almost too rich . . but as I use the guitar virtually exclusively for fingerstyle it really sounds nice to me. . . I hope this helps 🙂
How does the silence of this guitar compare to the silence of a typical solid-body electric guitar, regarding not bothering your neighbors?
it's about the same . .
Would really appreciate it if I could have some questions answered.
1. Is it neck heavy, i.e. does it neck dive?
2. Where is it made?
3. Does it take acoustic guitar strings or electric guitar strings?
Thanks in advance.
yes it does neck dive slightly. China. Acoustic . .
@@guitar-academy Thank you.
@@GoldenToothBrush sorry for the short message . . I can't keep up at the moment . . 😊
@@guitar-academy No worries at all mate, I appreciate it.
I am not sure if i am impressed with this. I thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching! 🙂
Hi man! Thank you very much fir the review. The video itself is also very good quality, and I'm really considering this guitar now.
I also have a question regarding the video itself.) What gear do you use? I mean camera, lens and lights like here - 6:24. Thanks!
Thank you very much . . the camera is a canon 90d with a stock 18-135 lens, and I just use cheap eBay LED panel lights. At 6:24 I backlit the guitar and under exposed it by 2 stops . . I hope this helps. 😊
@@guitar-academy wow, for a kit lens and just LED lights that’s stunning.) Thanks!
@@random-style wow thank you very much . . 😊😊
I think you meant steel strings, not steal strings. Unless, of course, you did not pay for them. 😉
Yeah . . whoops . . 🙂
No, He doesn't pay for them...
@@keithreeder I wish . . I'm actually dyslexic, which is why I became a professional musician. Unfortunately all the spell checks I have installed can't correct words with different meanings . . maybe soon though with A.I. 🙂🙂
great video,i love my silent guitar.
Thank you . . me too . . 😃
Lots of love from India
lots of love back . . . 🙂
THANKS, GCH!
thank you too 😊😃
We got a story about Staples here …….RUclips doesn’t get any better than this….
With the nylon string the volume level changes when you're using the effects. Does the same happen to the steel strings?
That is strange 🤔 Not on this one . . the volume stays very stable . . 🙂
Very nice review.
Thank you very much . . . ☺
Nice review.
thanks very much 😊
Thank you for this amazing video
I am planning to buy this guitar can u tell me how good is this guitar for professional recordings and how it's sounds ?
It's good, very good . . If you look at the last half of my Christmas giveaway video it is was recorded on the Yamaha ruclips.net/video/m5Lp0T2LqWM/видео.html
Excellent Review
Thank you kindly! 😊😃
a silent guitar you say? finally a guitar even i can sound good on.
LOL . . 😂🤣
Thank you for your excellent review... it was very thorough. Can you tell me how the action is on this guitar?
It is set fairly low at about 2.5mm at the 12th fret with room to take it lower at the saddle . .
@@guitar-academy Thank You! That is good to know. I have bought guitars online, the Lava Me 2, for example, where it was indicated that the action was set at 2.5mm ... only to find out after getting it, that the action was 1/4 inch+ at the 12th fret. Thanks again!
@@ooochakalaka ouch . . that's pretty much unplayable . . 😒
i have yamaha silent guitar..... its a great guitar, however it's i'm a bit uncomfortable due to small neck and i have a bit long fingers....... fingerstyle is not good on this guitar except if you are using pick...... strumming with a finger doesnt sound good, but using s pick, sounds good.......... i'm uncomfortable also because i have a slim body,....... i tried to put pillow on my tummy and carried the guitar and felt more comfortable while playing........... thats my expirience......... this guitar overall is good......... good also for acoustic time
I agree with the back of the guitar digging in to your side it is a little uncomfortable. But I find it easy to play finger style . .
17:10 ur welcome
name of this diddy? Stuck in my head since i clicked this a week ago.
I really want to know the name of this song, if it is composed by someone
@GHC Guitar Academy I've been searching about reviews of this guitar, because I consider to buy it. And I have to say, your video is the best! Generaly, I think you are great player. Also, I have subscribe to your channel. Thank you 👍
Glad I could help! thank you and thanks for the sub 😊😃
@@guitar-academy yes, you did. I finaly bought this guitar, and its amazing. I will just try to put new bone saddle because the action is just a little bit too high for me.
@@antonio.lovric Yes, that's a common thing. I've done a video to help if you need it ruclips.net/video/QRSAQocR_rY/видео.html
@@guitar-academy I watched that video before. And I already order new bone saddle. I think this guitar will be perfect when I put a little bit lower bone saddle.
agreed 😃😃
