    This is exactly what got me excited for Kyrie playing on this team. I love that he has the Mamba Mentality and Brad Stevens is a coach capable of putting him/the team in the best situation to win.

    i love how kyrie’s been doing as a celtic. the idea that he wasn’t going to fit well into a motion-style offense was nonsense. but even if it didn’t work out, when he wanted to get traded to san antonio or the twolves, i admired his willingness to say, “hey, i’m not just an iso scorer; i can get others involved and i want to play in a more flowing offense.”

      ReCharredSigh nonsense? You're probably the king of guy that thinks he's isolating 24/24. He did great with the cavs ( when he was the one running the play)

      Yeah so it's just about putting in the time. I dedicate a large amount of my time to watching NBA, reading/watching/listening to basketball analysis. I've done this for a while now. And when you watch really try to understand why a play happens and for what reason.

    Spurs Motion Strong Offense 😁😁😁 with 1st cutter curl is a great offense for Boston Celtics with Kyrie Irving setting the down-screen after a pass to the trailer.
    So many options with that 1st Cutter curling instead of flash high.

    Hey coach I was wondering if you had a definitive answer on this because I've been struggling to understand the concept for some time now. You explained how the ICE defense pins the offensive player to the sideline, effectively trapping him and forcing the player to give up the ball. Even in 1-1 situations, the defender will open up a lane for the ballhandler, either forcing them to use their offhand or to bait them into a difficult shot. I see this constantly and, though I follow the theory, time and time again it simply allows the offensive player to drive to the hoop almost uncontested, or the big man will come down to help allowing for an easy bounce pass or alley-oop. This is practiced by some of the best defenders in the league and I see them get beat. Why can't the defender square up with the opponent? Is it because they want said ballhandler to be the shooter or because it is too difficult to contain them due to their speed/shiftiness so they narrow down their options. Sorry for the long comment but it really pisses me off. Thanks

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  7 лет назад

      Yeah so in non-ball screen situations the defender should square up generally. They should make sure they don't get beat middle but they should also not allow an easy drive.ICE is not perfect, but usually if the pass to the roll man is open the weakside messed up by not bumping the roll man, or the guard did not veer back. I will talk about the veer back at some point on the channel but Zak Boisvert has a good video on it you can check it out.

  • @danielpierce305

    The jailbreak action at the end of the video was fascinating. Why don't teams use this more? Too easy to read and react to it?

    • @ihavearapname
      @ihavearapname 7 лет назад +5

      Daniel Pierce Probably because it's hard for the point guard to get by his man enough to seal him off. Also, the timing has to be precise and if there is too much help side it could get crowded.

      Well, go check out Giannis’ steal and game winning dunk this year. Go check out how it cost them the game

    • @danielpierce305
      @danielpierce305 7 лет назад

      Nick Thorpe I respectfully disagree, that's just a standard "putting your man in jail" move. Not a set play like Coach Daniel is highlighting. There's a big difference.

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  7 лет назад +3

      Well I wouldn't say what I talked about was a set play more of the two players playing together and the big man reading when the offensive playing puts his man in jail. And yeah that play first off was at the end of a game when defense's allow very little, and Giannis is very long not exactly the player you can put in jail.

    • @ReCharredSigh
      @ReCharredSigh 7 лет назад +1

      it's also possible that the jailbreak action isn't something that is well-known. it could be either fairly new, or not that popular. once more players discover it and how effective it can be, you might see more players copying it.
      b/c once you see long, athletic perimeter players with good handles get a wind of this action (KD, kawhi, giannis, paul george, to name a few), it's going to be very devastating and abused.

    I really like your video and channel; but I get the feeling newer generations of NBA viewers think any of this is new, as in a new technique. Guarantee you all of this has been analyzed and done before, perhaps under a different name, or simply "good defense."
    Still, it's fun to give it exciting names like ICE.
    cheers.

    • @ReCharredSigh
      @ReCharredSigh 7 лет назад +2

      ICE defense isn’t a new term coined by coach daniel. i agree that coach daniel sometimes comes up with his own terms, but i’ve heard ron adams, the warriors’ assistant coach use the term, and it was popularized (but not invented) by tom thibodeau when he was coaching the bulls. sometimes coaches (or youtube coaches) have short names for certain plays/techniques because it makes it easier to yell out repeatedly in the heat of a game.
