T'au player here. Super excited about all of the developments! It should be an incredible storyline! Just a note, Ultramar is on the other side of the Great Rift from the Startide Nexus. The T'au homeworlds are closer to Ultramar than the Chalnath Expanse is. Also the Startide Nexus was established in the 8th Edition T'au Codex, but it took two editions and 6 years to finally do something interesting with it!
I think Valrak needs to double-check his navigation charts. He's mixing up the Ultima Segmentum and the Realm of Ultramar. The Chalnath Exapanse is the western part of the Ultima Segmentum and isn't near Ultramar.
More than that, I come back to the hobby after more than a year away to find out that the brand new lore we are talking about is the Chalnath expanse and the startide nexus is from two editions ago.
If we’re getting Tau as the next big bad, I want more auxiliaries. I like the Battlesuits, but I want more different aliens. They’re supposed to be like the Covenant, but it’s almost all just Tau
The continuing mission of the Startide Nexus, to seek out new worlds and new civilisations (and subsume them for the Greater Good). To baldly go where no Tau has gone before.
I've said this on other videos about this lore update, but the Tau should be winning in the Startide Nexus and Chalnath expanse on every front. It's basically a group of frontier systems with minimal defense and aid, but the Tau has 1 and a bit expansion fleets, which are massive crusade fleet. The 5th Sphere fleet fought back an entire Deathguard fleet until it got killed by the Tau Warp god (terrible lore). The Chalnath expanse should have already been conquered by now. it's insane that these tiny unsupported worlds are able to hold them back, especially when the GSC are also fighting across these planets. Additionally, the Tau are supposedly really good at killing Tyranids, like really good, if you go by codex lore. Farsight developed a poison that Tyranids can't react to, drones are able to match the Tyranids in number, and the Tau fleet tactics are supposedly adept at dealing with Tyranid biofleets because Tau ships are faster than most factions ships in real space.
The T’au lost the engagement against the Death Guard in the Chalnath Expanse. Also they weren’t saved by their warp god the Death Guard just decided to fuck-off after some of their ships made it into the Startide Nexus. (Sure the T’au probably would’ve won if the Death Guard did decide to appear on the other side but thats irrelevant right now). O’Shaserra crippled the invading Death Guard fleet but some ships still got into the Nexus, the ones that didn’t fucked off back into the warp and almost all the boarding actions conducted by Breacher Teams was a whopping failure. Now I am can only really talk with certainty about whats in the T’au codex because its the only newer box I have, but from what I have seen on the new Chalnath lore I would say that it makes sense that the T’au haven’t conquered it yet. Reason 1: Chalnath is a fucking big area, T’au ships are still slow because they haven’t fully understood warp travel yet, which means any defending Imperial ships can respond to the T’au quicker than the T’au can respond to them, while the T’au Empire might have the better organisational skills with the Imperial Forces being stuck on the wrong side of the rift. The T’au are still much slower, reinforcments from the greater empire take a long time to get through the Nexus and their ships are slower at navigating the expanse than Imperial Vessels. Also gotta remember the T’au are probably still mapping the Expanse whereas the Imperium already knows where everything is. Reason 2: the Imperium still have more forces than the T’au or at least the same amount. 3 Regiments of Imperial Guard is a very large force, thats not counting PDF forces and judging on the new lore the T’au can’t sweet talk their way into capturing planets like they normally do which means a lot more Fire Caste manpower is being used to induct planets than a normal sphere of expansion. The T’au are also fighting Death Watch, Inquisitors and SoB (and we all know how powerful faith is for humanity). Reason 3: While yes the Cultists should make dealing with Humanity easier the T’au still have to fight the Genestealer cults so it doesn’t make it that much easier. Reason 4: Tyranids. Farsight did create a virus the Tyranids can’t combat but there is no reason to suggest that the Empire have access to said virus and I don’t see anything to suggest that they have created their own. Also in the past I believe the T’au needed help from humanity and I think Dark Eldar when they had to face Tyranid Hive Fleets, and that was with resources from the larger empire, an Expansion Fleet is cooked against an invading hive fleet unless they get help or reinforcements (and FAST). So nah I think GW did a good job explaining this plotline away.
@Sollapoke the Tau star god did intervene when dealing with the Death Guard fleet. It made the Death Guard sorcerer mutiny against the Chaos Lord of the Armada and trapped the Chaos Lord in the warp. That's from the Shadowsun book. Again, this isn't some small Tau fleet. This is an expansion fleet. It's equivalent to a medium-sized imperial crusade and can colonize multiple systems at once. 3 regiments of the Guard, some Sisters of Battle, and a few dozen Deathwatch can not hope to beat it, especially when they have to deal with Genestealer Cults. The Tau Psychic Awakening book made it clear that outside of actual open combat, the GSC is more a hinderence than a threat when coupled with fighting the Imperials. The Tau were quite effective in dealing with the Tyranids and only lost a handful of worlds to Hive Fleet Gorgon. The lore specifically states that the Tau and Tyranids change as fast as each other, and the Tau have devised Tyranid countermeasure. Mainly catching the Tyranids in open space and whittling them down from a safe distance until breaking them on a heavily fortified planet. Will it work against the entirety of Leviathan like on Baal, no, but I doubt any Tyranid Hive Fleets of Leviathans size are moving about in this region of the galaxy, especially when Leviathan is on the other side of the Cicatrix Maledictum. Remember, this event happened back in 8th ed, and the fact that the Tau haven't completely conquered the region flies in the face of them being an actual threat to the Imperium when they easily beat back an entire Imperial Crusade with multiple Guard regiments, Space Marine Chapter, and fleet assets. The Tau beat said crusade with less resources compared to what they have now in the Startide Nexus.
To be honest I thought most of those names had almost East Asian pronunciation In Valraks defense hard if you're from the North .....even harder if you're a Brummie like me

I’m new to 40k (1-2 years). Why does GW constantly start new story lines like this yet they never finish any of the 20-30 other story lines. It’s kinda frustrating
40k is a setting, not a story, there are stories yes, but none of them will come to true final ending. Eldar will always be hunted by slaanesh, the emperor will always stay on the throne, the necrons will always be waking up and so on.
Maybe it's in reference to the winged Space Marines from the Bequin books? The foil is coming back on boys, Valrak will find a way to connect this to the king in yellow

Tau have really only interacted from my knowledge with Dark Eldar and it made the entire Tau empire the hated enemies of them. The Dark Eldar scoured Pech the homeworld of the Kroot, wiped out a Tau Sept world, and lied to the Tau ethereals about the nature of their aid in fighting the Tyranids. It also didn't help that it was lead by Urien Rakarth

Agreed. Votann got skipped in the current one, even though it quite literally should have somewhat focused on us. And now... yet another one. It's gone beyond frustrating. I don't know where GW thinks we fit (or don't fit), but it feels like they really like Votann but almost as that "cute cousin you see once a year" faction... Sigh. (Edited to remove strikethrough) Post Edit: Also? Tau. Votann. Another way in that way. Sigh again.

The Death Fleet that fought the Tau 5th Sphere Fleet got wiped out when it entered the Stattide Nexus by the Tau God. It's terrible lore and it seems unless you are a Tau ally, you get killed if you enter the Nexus
@jakerooke174 Damocles Crusade fleet conquered three pre-evacuated planets before being broken on the first Sept World they came across. Three. The Lion is powerful, and would certainly get results, but ultimately he's just a bigger railgun target.
Nah, no way the GSC can take advantage from Imperium & Tau...just look at their Codex...🤦🏻♂️ Btw SoB are quite busy, first fighting Necron, and now the Tau+GSC, what a solar year🙈

Valrak is off on that one. It's not close to Ultamar, it's on the other side of the Great Rift in Imperium Nihilus.
@@VedaRa501 Ya I think he saw Ultima and his mind just clicked Ultramar.
The Death Fleet that fought the Tau 5th Sphere Fleet got wiped out when it entered the Stattide Nexus by the Tau God. It's terrible lore and it seems unless you are a Tau ally, you get killed if you enter the Nexus
@@markhohenbrink5230 Ok, the ones I mentioned though aren't those Death Guard though.
See after hearing about all the new flying units appearing in Killteam You mentioned Death Guard and I envisioned bloated Cultists with fly wings
Chaos Tau incoming
Sororitas going to work lol
Seems like the legion of the damned
Wonder how the T"au would react to one of the returned Primarchs would just think shit these Gue'la are getting bigger!?
Theyd probably would think of them as overhyped space marines until they lose the same amount of planets as the Damocles mini crusade in a month
@jakerooke174 Damocles Crusade fleet conquered three pre-evacuated planets before being broken on the first Sept World they came across.
Three.
The Lion is powerful, and would certainly get results, but ultimately he's just a bigger railgun target.
What’s this have to do with space marine 2?
Hey i missed the game did england bring it home?
How exactly is this new?
I can’t take the towel seriously since space king all I can think of when I hear Tao is the blobby fish noise coming out of their mouth
I don’t care what changes they make to DW as long as they give us primaris DW with combi-weapons.
Not really new lore. Most of it is from the Psychic Awakening.
The Wormhole is old lore? First time I am hearing of it!
@@ChapterMasterValrakit's been a thing since 8th ed
@@markhohenbrink5230 Why in the Emperors name is it in this months White Dwarf if it this old, god damn GW.
@@ChapterMasterValrak GW thought Xenos players deserved a bone
@@ChapterMasterValrak Yes it was in 8th ed.
Nah, no way the GSC can take advantage from Imperium & Tau...just look at their Codex...🤦🏻♂️
Btw SoB are quite busy, first fighting Necron, and now the Tau+GSC, what a solar year🙈
The Nexus was mainly created by the T'au Goddess in the warp, so hard to make another.
Greater Good Daemon Prince! I feel would divide the community more than the Fem-Custodes
@@JackRabbit002 you mean "Princess"
And she's been around since I think Psychic Awakening.
new kreig incoming?
Well well well
Bruva! Hit the like button!
Did they not have this in 8ed book ?
Yes it was in the Psychic Awakening.
@@VedaRa501 thank you seems like a cheap repeat
Those screens are taken from?
Listen to start of the video, mate ;)
@@ChapterMasterValrak ok I will listen later because now I can not 😄
What about expanding Old World Dwarfs Valrak, when is that happening hmm??
VALRAK DEATHWATCH
He said he would on Monday
Lorerak is bestrak
40K wannabe "authors" periodically hit the loop: Chaos, Orks, Tyranids, Necrons, Tau... Nothing to see here, move one...
