RAGING BOLT is the #1 NEW THREAT • Pokemon Scarlet/Violet VGC Battles

- Raging Bolt is one of the brand new Paradox Pokemon and in my opinion, it's the biggest threat added to VGC through the DLC. With several strong early meta performances already, it's proven to be an incredible Pokemon thanks to its great stats & unique signature attack in Thunderclap. With Calm Mind and Leftovers as well as recovery from Grassy Terrain and Pollen Puff Amoonguss, this Raging Bolt is a HUGE threat.

Damn, Eternatus has had a major look change since Sword and Shield.
Why what did they change?
@@jeromyfinnigan8141he called enamorus eternatus lol
He did the same the last video where a opponent had a Enamorus 😂
@@seven8703 oh lmao I didn't even realize 😭
It’s Hisuian Eternatus
I'm so glad Whimsicott is back, it's such a silly little guy that causes so much terror
True. I'd rather see whimsicott than tornadous
@@thiccboi8225
Agreed. Whimsicott is irritating, but not having Prankster Rain-dance and a 100BP spread move makes rain less dominant and Whimsicott easier to deal with.
I would never of noticed how under represented giraffes were in VGC before this gen, but all hail our new giraffe masters, and the angriest, most noble giraffe of them all.
Bro is not a girraffe
@@daphenomenalz4100 long neck + vaguely yellow = giraffe, or cirrhosis of the liver. I'll let u decide
its actually a saurapod but giraffe is funny so ill let it slide
Watching people who know how to play competitive Pokemon is so cool. I’ve always just seen it as chess with world ending monsters
Definitely the best part of these videos is the analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of each team. A compilation of Just that portion of the videos would be good. Grouping them by regulation or possibly ranking the teams you cover every regulation is an idea. Not necessarily a good or bad idea. Just an idea.
Great video
QOTD: Smeargle has been something I’ve tried out with multiple variations to almost no success due to the amount of people running either type of Urshifu (rapid strike specifically but single also counters hard) the survivability of Smeargle becomes borderline impossible despite having such amazing moves.
The three pokemon that I’ve had success with it: Wellspring Ogerpon (bulkier follow me), Gastrodon (actually frighteningly good this format - very underrated), and Dondozo (rocky helmet switch in option)
Side note: The Gastrodon set that I think will become a viable option is: Storm Drain, Recovery item (Sitrus Berry, Leftovers, or Wiki Berry for the bold), Earth Power, Ice Beam (or muddy water or clear smog if you don’t have Dondozo counter), Yawn, Protect
-Good Urshifu matchup, Good Lando matchup, amazing Dondozo answer, and Raging Bolt immunity
You gotta love how they handled Raging Bolt. Version exclusive? Check. Cannot breed? Check. 1-per-savefile? Check. Locked behind two DLCs? Check. Amazing, isn´t it.
ikr imagine getting the wrong version.
Catching 200 Pokémon too….
@@davidreiser9663 Yep. Amazing, right?
QOTD: Incin has felt good but not oppressive. The way everybody was talking before its release it was going to be on every team and super broken but it's not. Clear Amulet, Covert Cloak and teras seem to have kept it as just a good support mon and not a "must use or else" which i like
That's because incineroar was on every single vgc team since its inception it was formerly the best all time pokemon of all time and in tournament play its still I'm the 80 to 90% of teamplay in vgc regional rn
I don’t think anyone has ever thought Incineroar was broken. It’s a very very good Pokemon, but it’s never felt like overwhelming to me in the way say Urshifu does. Urshifu isn’t inherently broken either, but the whole auto crit + breaks through Protect combo is very frustrating admittedly.
@@emacliftsalot When you say it's inception you mean after they gave it Intimate. Incineroar was not used before that.
@@mewtationssb It is commonly known by many people in the VGC circles to be the strongest pokemon ever in this format because of it's insane move pool, stats, typing and having one of the strongest abilities in the game. I agree with everything you said about Urshifu and think it's is more of a "feels bad" pokemon to go against.
@@byrondejong9872 Oh absolutely. I started VGC before Intimiroar even dropped lol. It’s almost certainly the best Pokemon of all time. But I don’t think it’s broken. It’s just really, really good and serves as a great way to glue teams together.
I love that you call Archaludon stapler bridge cause we don't have an official pronounciation yet 😂
I call it Bridget because I saw someone nickname it that.
In my mind I call it ARCH-alodon because well its a bridge that has been arched backwards. And bridges have arches. I don't know. Sounds logical to me right?

As someone who’s competing in my first regional tournament soon (Charlotte) seeing what will be potent in regulation F has been really helpful for me building my very first competitive team. Decided on making a team that can be very flexible with leads to hopefully begin with an advantage and play accordingly. Thanks again for these videos for not only being entertaining but also educational as well. Wishing you the best 2024!

I’m going to Charlotte to we should play test
Hope your Charlotte Regional is going well!
I get so excited every time I see you showcase one of these new mons especially the new paradox mons. Can’t wait to see you use the rest of them and can’t wait to see why ends up being the strongest in the new season!
These videos are the highlight of my week. Love learning and makes work weeks less boring.
That Chi-Yu game was crazy lmao.
QOTD, I’m surprised the new Tera type stellar is being used less. It was built up to be super powerful, but felt very underwhelming in the competitive scene
I prefer that tbh. While I wouldn’t mind it being a touch stronger, some of the buffs I’ve seen people suggesting were flagrantly overpowered to the point they would have dominated competitive, so I’m glad they went with a more balanced approach.
Use a poke with the contrary ability and watch it do wonders lol
Will probably only ever see it on Contrary pokemon. TBh it feels like its more for Tera raids than VGC
@@souls6918 the only real viable contrary user is serperior since its typing is great compared to the others. the big issue of stellar is you dont benefit from defensive typing
Damn, Raging Bolt actually working so good without activated protosynthesic
Wanna see an Archaludon feature sometime! Such a versatile mon. It can be a stapler remover one moment then a bridge the next.
QOTD: I tried using neutralizing gas Regigigas combo + aurora veil but the problem is that Regigigas has to rely on it's natural offensive stats because of its lack of boosting moves, and if it just can't break through or gets it's stats lowered too much it gets pressured to switch out or flounder around on the field.
Absolutely love these videos. Actively getting back into VGC because of you and Wolfe.
Dude I love your videos. Your commentary is legendary. I love that I don’t have to actually watch the video because you are so descriptive of what’s happening. I listen while I’m at work so thanks man. Keep making the great content.
Been here watching your videos since 2015! Keep up the good work Aaron
I love listening to kickass VGC strategies, especially when Covid's kicking my ass sideways. Thanks for keeping me company. Aaron!
Thanks for the meta breakdown!
Nothing like starting the new year of 2024 by watching Aaron “Cybertron” Zhang giving commentary throughout the VGC Regulation Ladder. 👏
Really enjoying your videos. Keep up the great content ❤ and happy new year!!🎉
I’m laughing. Raging Bolt looks like the Pokémon version of the Tallneck machine from the Horizon games. 🤣
Great showcase of the team! 👍🎮
Just subbed great video! Always enjoyed your commentary at the VGC's and look forward to future content
Hitmontop is so underrated rn. Steel Tera wide guard destroys expanding force. Close combat one hits 99 percent of incin I’ve come across because it seems like they’re more specially defensive, and it wins the fake out speed war. It has coaching, and also works well into terrakion. Been pairing it with Metagross and Entei mostly, coaching helps them so much. Try it out!
I ran a coaching hitmontop with dynamax metagross back in sword and shield. Was so strong and took damage forever
Wow! I made a really nice team really similar to that but I have Comfey over amoonguss as it has priority healing and can cm up next to amoonguss so it can actually be a pretty big threat with healing from priority draining kiss and grassy terrain.
The only sad thing is the viability of that pokémon. As a Violet player, how am I supposed to get that? Version exclusive, only one per save file, and behind two DLCs.
I didn't know Eternatus was legal💀
I feel like the balance is very potent for regulation F to everyone competing out there i wish the best of luck to you all ....VGC is about to evovle in so many ways .
I'm so happy to see Bolt being recognized! It's absurdly good and I have confidence it can warp the meta around it!
As a side note, I wanted to share that I also tried doing grassy seed ragin bolt to also up its defense and with calm mind, a +1 on Def, SpD, and SpA is hard to take down. It's just so flexible with how you can build around it or build it around your team for different roles.
QOTD: so far, it's between Gouging Fire or Smeargle.
Gouging has an impressive signature move on paper but its movepool leaves a lot to be desired. It's got good Atk but it just doesn't hit as hard compared to other physical mons without DDance. And being a physical mon makes it prone to Intimidate unless you give up the item for Clear amulet. Then there's also Heatran matchup completely walling it.
Smeargle is weird. It probably needs time to work with. And even with moves like Silk Trap or Burning Bulwark as alternatives to Spiky Shield, its utility is so far outclassed by like Rilla, Incin, or Indeedee.
The thumbnail is very well done and reminded me of Mega Sharpedo for a second. How would Megas fit into the current meta if NOT allowed to Tera?
Love the Colosseum music at the start!
New drinking game: take a sip/shot every time Aaron calls Enamorus “Eternatus” 😋
Yes! I was hoping you’d show case Raging Bolt! Also love how you explain why Raging Bolt is #1. Makes newer players easier to follow. Thank you!
That Is a very cool thumbnail , love the content by the way
wooooot we're back with another one! hype
YESSSSS I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS RAGING BOLT RULES
QOTD: it's kinda nuts how much it feels like ogrepon has dropped off, especially hearthflame now that incineroar exists
Big Stapler Bridge is my favorite description I’ve ever heard 🤣
Can't just be me that spent the whole video laughing at "Thunderclap"
In the Poke Paste, the Urshifu has Mystic Water instead of Choice Scarf. Keep in mind to change that, for anyone trying the team out on Showdown.
Hey Aaron, something i noticed in the team breakdown is raging bolt having 0 attack iv, if im not mistaken the new paradox are all set to 20iv in each stat.
It’s in the team breakdown because that’s the default option that showdown sets when building a special attacker, but the IVs are corrected in the actual paste.
@Altered999 thanks for the clarification.
QOTD: contrary serperior and enamorus, I thought that contrary with stellar terra would be really powerful but in all the games I've played it feels too slow to get going and I often don't end up bringing them.
Lol this is the second video you called Enamorus, Eternatus. I love it lmfao
Great Video as always man! Keep it up, Secondly you should start selling merch, I can definitively say that everyone here wants a cybertron piplup hoodie! food for thought! Have a great day!
QOTD: sadly hydrapplin. I was so excited to use it but I have found it doesn’t have enough field presence. It walls some teams but when it doesn’t wall stuff it just struggles to add anything.
Nice to see a team from @NeilVGC getting featured!
I ve been trying iron crown with indedee but the iron crown has calm mind, and i think that helps him a lot bc there are moments when you cant deal too much damage with iron crown and just boost yourself can change that, as well that with calm mind the pokemon works iven wuthout indedee
Great video as always! Would you consider replacing one of your usual ranked ladder videos with a BO3 showdown ladder episode? Maybe a once per week thing? I know showdown isn't as pretty as in game but seeing you use teams on the BO3 ladder with open team sheets would add a whole new dimension to the content and would benefit people who are looking to play the tournament format. Would love to hear your analysis with the information of open team sheet and the intricacies and conditioning that go into a BO3.
I’m so glad there’s a team that uses metagross, I’m new to competitive but I shiny hunted for metagross in swsh and I really wanted to use him
Ragin giraffe time, letsgoooo. Time to see another video of cybertron boi comentaring as he goes🍿
Best pokemon youtuber..love your videos
Ranging Bolt reminds me of the Tall Necks in Horizon Zero Dawn
I know what I'm watching during dinner
I have used Whimsicott + Lucario with Bullet Punch to great effect. Same concept as with Terrakion, but with a lower base speed, I can run it with enough speed EVs to be a threat with and without tailwind. Tera Steel can pick up some crazy bullet punch KOs at +4 and covers for ghosts, along with extreme speed and close combat. I have been running with weakness policy and endure, which can totally flip a match if your opponent stalls out tailwind and then tries to KO Lucario with a supereffective move (note: I have caught a couple of urshifu players who try to KO through protect and then I dunk on them with extreme speed). I have been mixing it up a lot with my other teammates. I like Incin a lot, because it just covers for everything, but I have also had a lot of success with a slower trick room core with torkoal, raging bolt, farigiraf, rillaboom and other protosynthesis users. Rillaboom and giraffe disrupt opposing psychic terrain and priority, while raging bolt helps a ton against dondozo and other bulky waters that threaten to take multiple hits from Lucario.
"Big stapler" kills me every time
Awesome thumbnail.
Looks like a TCG artwork
Imagine Aaron gets too used to "Big Stapler Bridge" and uses that name on coverage
“Big Stapler Bridge” 🤣😂👌
rewatching some vids while i grind tera raids. qotd: incen has not been as annoying as i was lead to believe, but i also usually have prio block, so. i also havent had much impact with sinistcha or excadrill. not sure if its just them team or evs or me not being comfortable with the mons yet. imma keep messing around with both tho!
Hey there, great video as always!! just wanted to point out, the paste has a mystic water urshifu set with detect instead of scarf with uturn (EV spread is correct). I was also wondering, why iron head and not heavy slam on metagross? Is it weaker on a meta relevant threat? anw, excited to try out the team!
Funny to see that cybertron came with 4/6 pokemon that i build on my own xD just incin and amoonguss is replaced for me with dragon cheer milotic and setup dragon tera volcarona xD
You all need to show some respect! This man had all his stuff moving into his apartment and chucked it all in the corner like "No time to organize this pile, got Pokemon videos to make!".
My face when Aaron “Cybertron” Zheng is back for some more competitive VGC battles in the regulation F format in Scarlet and Violet but he will not be providing live commentary as he goes 😢
Hey Aaron, I was wondering if there's any chance for Meowstic this meta (one of my favourite mons), it feels a little powercrept by grimmsnarl/incineroar/rillaboom and other support pokes. But I hope it's unique prankster + fake out will land it a niche place in the meta.
Game 1 they probably expected an incin tera to not get KO’d by Urshifu so the taunt was to protect against tera parting shot
Been having fun with Tera raids and decided to look into competitive pokemon. No fucking clue what is going on but excited to learn!
I think the real question of the day here is why did that dude click tailwind and water tera t1 against rilla and bolt lol
With how many rillabooms running around im surprised not many people are running electric types
Like grassy terrain lessens the damage of ground moves and rilla himself eats ground types.
And with incin you can deal with the grass types yourself
Plus bolts really good for this because his dragon typing allows you to threaten ALL ele resists
Worth noting that grassy terrain only weakens Earthquake and Bulldoze specifically, not all ground moves so stuff like Stomping Tantrum, High Horsepower, Earth Power, and random T-Blast Grounds will still be threatening
most good electric types are fast glass cannons, nowadays they just get outsped by booster speed paradox mons which makes them unreliable. raging bolt fits right in as a bulky priority user
@@itztaytay2 I never said ground types are worthless, I just said they struggle more than they have in the past where they were of the strongest types.
@@kingmoosh2004 Idk about you but i really dont run into speed boost proto pokemon that much besides the odd speed flutter or moon. Plus there's a shit ton of good ele types that have great abilities which don't require either sun or booster using up a slot.
@@SmokeMith All I commented was clarifying about the details of Grassy Terrain. I did not express any opinions
QOTD: sand feels so meh despite excadrill coming back. I mainly use it as a back-up comp with flutter mane and fake tears meowstic hyper offense as the mons to start the battle. Leading sand feels so mid right now
Sand is kinda bad because it got destroyed by Torn Urshifu. The best sand setting, Tyranitar, didn’t want to be anywhere near Urshifu, and weather could be negated with Prankster Rain Dance.
You the man cybertron
Such a good episode!! Watching the entire thing despite it being an hour was so easy and enjoyable.
Hey Aaron, I hope you’re having a wonderful day. Wishing you an other successful year this 2024!
Against ogerpon chiyu when you predicted follow me and went for dragon pulse, that should have gone into the chiyu since it the ogerpon wasn’t a threat to bolt. If they had redirected then it played out the same but in the event they didn’t redirect like they did then you got the chiyu out of the way. Only a problem if they protected.
What was the website you were on to see the winrates of all the different mons I can’t find it?
Damn. Eternatus lost a lot of weight. Good for her! :D
Hey Aaron, I recently watched your matches at San Antonio! some epic unforgettable game play! Also I'm really enjoying your current regulation F content! I was wondering if I could ask your advice on something. I've been playing comp since the end of Sw/Sh, I've been to one regional, I've recently started playing on limitless, comparatively my skills and game play are low to mid at best, even my rank matches my L's are usually higher than my W's. I see players like yourself playing at such a high level. what can I be doing, or how can I be thinking differently to take my game play to that next level?
iv had to deal with several teams like this and my advice to deal with them (as a Regidrago enjoyer) is to lead with amoongus with mental herb and dragon fang regidrago to deal with it in an instant the only main thing that can stop it is if its a raging bolt with safety goggles and steel or fairy Tera which are by no means common
This Raging Bolt set survives a Helping Hand High Horsepower from Excadrill, was very surprised.
You should try and make a team with Rampardos :)
happy new year aaron ! appreciate ur insight on reg f stuff sm hehe u the best teacher ꉂ(´꒳`)☆
I thought annihilape would be a strong into incineroar. i think it is, but there are other meta relevant pokemon that do good enough into incin that have better all around matchups than annahilape. beatup whimsicott is a nice pairing but it just doesnt feel like enough
I'm curious to see if a booster energy set would work on this team.
Question: Why don't we put 20Evs into special attack for the first EV Bump if we go with modest is there any calc why we need 252 def instead of 232
Not Aaron, but first of all… 228 defense. 232 wastes points.
Second of all, it kind of just depends on what Bolt is built to live. If the creator felt like it needed max defense to live some crucial hit, then it’s probably ok. Personally, I think the spread is kinda bad but that’s just me.
Yeah 228 was my bad but thats what i asked about if there are any hits it need to tank with 252@@mewtationssb
What website are you using to check the tournament?
raging bolt looks so sick
hi, what's the showdown background? it looks so simple i want it :)
Had a prob with eerie impulse thundrus, did i do wrong or its hard to win against it?
I was honestly kind of upset walking wake didn’t get calm mind. There was no reason for it not to since suicune got it and then they gave it to both iron crown and raging bolt
my steven got beldum>metagross might be of use finally!!! man hes been with me a long long time.
Being faster than other raging bolts could become really important
Game 3 could have gone either way. It would have been cool to see a best of three against that team!
hello hru and happy new year.
can anyonepls explain me why metagross does use iron head instead of "heavy slam" because of his weighth/power?
ty and have a beautiful day
Bullying people on low ladder with Raging Bolt has done terrible things to my ego lol.
This mon hits different.
New drinking game; watch Cybertron and take a shot every time he mis-speaks 😂
Real talk. Watching your videos almost makes me wanna get back into VGC
Is Heavy Slam or Iron Head better on Metagross in this Format?
Cuz in Jamie Boyts Guide he explains that Heavy Slam is better whereas u are using Iron Head.
Thanks.
Heavy slam is better. Metagross weighs like 1250lbs heavy slam is 120bp against 95% of things. Most people honestly don’t even know metagross got heavy slam (first time ever with this dlc)
Is raging bolt + pincurchin some future new meta to control terrain?
