I bought some and so far it is working great. Stronger than the reg water washable and just as easy to clean.
Legend! My og photon finally died after years of loyal service and ive just purchased the same printer you have and its coming with tye same resin. Absolutely stoked. Anycubic recommended this resin and sent through a bottle for free. Never had an issue with Anycubics stuff and their customer service is great. So excited right now😂😂
Nice! I like my photon mono 2. The only thing I would change is moving the power button/usb to the front of the machine, but that's just a minor thing.
I use elegoo's water washable on my saturn. I lost a years worth of printing when we had some serious humidity. All my hollowed out minis cracked open. Had just finished all the robot legion and lost them all before I even got to use them. Made a huge mess. Now I print solid minis just to be safe.
OPR's stuff tends to have closed chambers. (closed gaps, where the arm meets the torso for example.) The older models at least. They are getting better at not leaving those in. I wonder if that may have had anything to do with it.
I've got some pretty bad humidity swings in my area and use elegoo WW as well. Weird yours has done that. I would be curious to see if there are closed areas inside the model after hollowing it as Haunts said. You could have pockets trapped that off-gassed and popped apart. That is one reason I don't typically like pre-supported minis and do it myself.
That wasn't humidity, that was uncured resin inside sealed voids. It off gassed and cracked from over pressure. If you're going to use hollowed models make sure its clean and has some small holes to allow the gasses to escape. Even better is curing the inside with small LEDs.
@@Hartwig870and sweep each file in a slicer to make sure there aren't any closed off voids. Especially when you're printing combined models. Sometimes the person preparing that model doesn't know anything about 3D printing unfortunately.
I switched to denatured alcohol a few years back when IPA was hard to find. I've always thought the water-washable thing was a gimmick, but if there's an ABS-Like that seems to do the job I'll keep it on my radar next time I need resin.
Same here! Maybe it was a gimmick at one point, but not anymore :p
I use mainly water washable from Elegoo. It has served me well. Even when I use the machine I notice less smell.
The only warning I received was from a dice maker. Water washable, in their opinion, is not good for dimensional accuracy as it can shift or swell. Not enough to be noticed but enough that it affected their dice and balance, it was worse when they used a semi-transparent version. So when I make masters to be molded I use the traditional resin.
I believe it. Some of the larger, multi part models I've printed weren't socketing together perfectly and needed a bit of sanding. Nothing major, but depending what your printing it could be an issue.
I switched to water washable resin about 2 years ago (anycubic water washable+... not the ABS like) and it has served me well. (it is however a bit brittle so I'm gonna try the ABS)
being able to just fill my wash/cure with regular water has saved me a lot of money. IPA isn't exactly cheap.
when the water gets too cloudy I simp[ly dump it into a large transparent storage container and leave that outside for a week or 2. the sun cures any suspended resin and it separates and sinks to the bottom. I then drain off the water into smaller containers and take those to my local recycling station. the cured resin can just be scraped out of the storage container and put into an old coffee jar or whatever then I run that through a curing cycle on my wash/cure for 10 mins and just chuck it in the regular trash.
its just way less hassle than dealing with IPA and I've not noticed any real difference in quality of the prints
Sounds like a good setup! It's been a real game changer for me. The cost of the IPA was never really an issue but the smell was :p
@@hauntswargaming yeah it wasn't a huge cost but compared to water it is which is essentially free and always on tap :) 5litres of IPA or a litre of resin, I know which I'd rather be buying
and yeah the smell was what really bothered me about it
As an entrant to 3dprinting, I am staying clear of IPA... the smell alone isnt worth it, especially with water washables coming into the market. I know everything has its issues, but I am doing only water washable.
And that's why now Im looking at this resin lol
I recently switched too and I'm loving it. Love how easy it is too wash and no hassles painting the resin after.
Only thing I've found is sometimes a second wash is required depending on how models sat during washing, but that's a very minor thing. Love the product
Yea, it makes the process so much easier!
Sometimes I dab the models with a paper towel as a final pass. Not sure if that would help.
Have you tried putting your pickle jar bucket down inside a 5 gallon bucket? That would catch any splashing or spills.
I just received two bottles for myself. I printed two Firefight teams for my son last Christmas (Starhost and War Daemons). I had many limbs and weapons snap off with regular handling. I'm looking forward to the more flexible models.
I'll be printing my Tixal armies later this month.
That's not a bad idea. I have been putting a folded piece of newspaper over top of them and then covering the sides with my hands while pulsing the basket. (With gloves on) That seems to work pretty well. Any splashing gets directed downward towards the newspaper they are sitting on.
Good review. I've been using some basic resin since I started printing and I'm wondering about switching. I might give this a try!
Thanks! I recommend trying it out at least! I've tried a few of the basic resins and they were always so brittle.
@hauntswargaming yeah I have so many Gecko spearmen without spearheads 😂
2 questions:
1. Do you use hot water or no ??
2. After washing, do you rinse with cloth towel or paper towel before curing ???
I don't use hot water. And if by rinse You mean dry off then yes. I have a video on my process for my patrons in the tips and tricks section if you're interested.
What should I change for black color resin?
bottle says for 0.1mm layers to use first layer: 10 - 15s, normal exposure: 1.1 - 1.5s light-off delay: 0.2 - 0.5s
I want to use 0.05mm layers
Use the manufacturers recommended settings. Do some test prints and adjust based off of that.
I don't know what's up with the "stickyness" of this resin, but it's like it's superglued to my build plate... The rafts are pretty brittle too, so I'm guessing that even at 20s, I'm massively overdoing it on the bottom layers. (using a photon mono X).
This resin is really temperature sensitive. I had issues with it cracking at the beginning of winter (the supports). I made sure the temperature in the print room was cranked up and that fixed it. It helps if it's 60°F plus. And yea it sticks. Just keep dialing down those burn in layers.
I also never deep clean my plate FWIW.
thanks, great video.
Side note - can you share the source of those amazing lizard minis?
Those are from OnePageRules
every resin printing channel says don't pour it down the drain blah blah but nowhere do I hear them tell you what to do with it, so what DO you do with the wash?
I put it in a large container and set it outside to evaporate. I have mine under the roof of my garage so it won't get rained on and I put some chicken wire fencing over it to keep birds/etc out. I just dump the dirty water in there after every liter or so of resin.
Just got this resin. If I already have a cleaning station with 2 gallons of IPA, can I clean them in there? Or do I need to use only water?
I don't know honestly. Maybe check the manufacturer's website?
Hi which resin is best for printing a replacement for a plastic cog - water washable abs like in this vid or standard water washable (hard but brittle) which wears more or lasts longer , thanks P
Is there 2 version of abs-like v2? One water washable and one is not. Because I found on the internet abs-like v2 but there is no "water washable" sign on the bottle.
Has a version of abs like pro
With this resin I'm just curious, what's your recommendation for UV exposure for the miniatures based on size ?
I'm not really sure what you mean by "based on size"
@hauntswargaming ahhhh, so let's use d&d miniatures. Your average size is an inch tall.
@@steamboatjoe7198 well the UV exposure would be the same regardless of what size the model is. The manufacturers have recommended settings for whatever printer you're using on their websites.
@@hauntswargaming I'm sorry, I'm still new to this so I don't think I'm doing a good job at explaining it lol. I purchased a separate anycubic machine that spins the figures around and further exposes it to more UV light. Past prints have been coming out brittle and breaking. I believe either due to washing it too long in alcohol or over exposure in my UV machine.
@@steamboatjoe7198 ah okay, my bad. A lot of resins turn out fairly brittle. It's worth spending more money on a durable/tough resin. I went through a few different resins before I found one I liked.
For a post UV cure, I usually do one to three minutes flipping them in between.
Do you clean the FEP too only with water? Or u still use IPA to clean it.
Yea just water, but I hardly ever clean the fep. I've literally cleaned the fep off once on that printer and that was because the machine said it needed changed. Surprise, surprise it didn't.
So after u print, u can leave the excess resin inside without letting any source of light touch it? Correct?
@@joshuaravelli2848 yep, as long as the odor isn't an issue you can do that
@@joshuaravelli2848 You have to stir the resin if it's been sitting for more than a day. I use the plastic scraper that came with the printer for that.
Ok all clear, thank you very much for answering. 🙏
I used a water washable by Phrozen. It was terrible. Prints came out well but after like 8 months they all cracked and busted.
oh jeez, that sucks :( I guess my experiment has begun lol
How's the smell BTW?do we still need air filter for this?
If you compare just the resin to other resins I've used it's pretty similar. But, in my experience, the majority of the smell has always come from dealing with tubs of IPA. Not having to deal with IPA has really cut down on The smell. Of course you still have to use respirator and have ventilation
what's the difference between V2 and previous version ?
I've never used the other version so I can't say. Maybe it wasn't water washable?
@@hauntswargaming there are Anycubic Water Washable resins with no "V2".
I recently picked up 5kg of this resin but can't get it to print properly on my Mono X2 for the love of god. Wasted half a bottle on failed prints already.
Test prints work fine and I dialed it in to 1,7s @ 80% UV power for optimal exposure. However, often times the supports just won't stick. Even at higher exposure and/or UV power where calibrations prints like the Matrix or Ameralabs Town indicate clear overexposure... I tried printing multiple models and so far, only 2 out of 10 of those printed successfully.
Maybe the models aren't supported enough. That's my guess. With flexible resins you gotta have generous supports
The models are definitely supported adequately, but I will try and increase the tip strength somewhat for my next print. Tomorrow morning, I'll know more.@@hauntswargaming
@@topkekbieri good luck! I usually add a few thicker supports if I feel like the model needs it. I've had like 99% success rate with this resin. The only failure I've had was under supported and I didn't catch it.
How long should I wash and cure 3D Miniatures using water wash resin it said 10 minutes for wash and 2 minutes to cure
I don't use a wash machine anymore but that sounds good. Cure one minute on each side
@@hauntswargaming thank you I have the any cubic washing cure machine combo
@@jeff1238191 I use a two tub system which I think works pretty well. I'd suggest getting a second tub to get the bulk of the resin off and then using the wash machine to get the rest of it
@@hauntswargaming thanks for the suggestion
will abs-like resen react to acetone?
I don't know. Never tried it.
It’s been 4 months. Any cracking?
Nope!
@@hauntswargaming is it still your favorite?
@@hauntswargaming I’m asking because I just ordered my first resin printer and this is the resin that comes with it.
@@alphanerdgames9417 Nice! You'll like it. It's way better than the resin I started with.
Is it difficult to get the supports off? Do you still use the same settings as in the video?
The quality of Anycubic resin is really bad. The curing time can be different from one bottle to another and Anycubic don't care about this. If you use Anycubic resin you will have to do a calibration between every new bottle and big prints are impossible to do without risking your prints and FEP due to low quality resin. After several discussions with support and 5L of failed prints I will never buy Anycubic resin again. There are several other brands with higher quality and the same or less price.
Is this your experience with their abs like V2?
which one would you recommend ? for water washable.
Funny... i printed like 30kg of anycubics normal water washable resin and it came put perfect all the time. in winter as in summer... no difference at all. And i printed very big models with it too
How fast do you rpint?@@D1eWuR5t
