    Tough doesn't mean ridgid, it's the opposite, it mean it's non brittle. It's not supposed to be hard it's supposed to be flexy, that's why the image is shows a bendy line on the tub. Same with Resione TH-72 Tough or Chitu Conjure Tough. The resin isn't broken, that's how it's supposed to be. The detergent isn't broken either, leaving your models in IPA can damage them but I'd bet that that detergent is far more gentle than than IPA, it definitly didn't make it bendy, that's how it should be. That being said, you shouldn't test how bendy prints are until a good day after thoroughly curing as the internal stresses need to sort themselves out.

  • @Down_Time_Dad
    @Down_Time_Dad Год назад +44

    I think your mindset may have been wrong for this video, toughness is the ability of a matierial to take elastic deformation without plastic failure. So tough materials are flexible in nature. Generally the tougher something is the less hard it is, the harder something is the more brittle it becomes.

    Ok, the resin cleaner is literally designed to dissolve resin. Which is why the instructions state you are only supposed to let it soak for 5 minutes and it is mandatory to wash it (the resin cleaner) off with water. Otherwise it stays on the resin print and does begin to melt it into a goop. The stuff will literally dissolve cured on resin and sediment from resin vats and tools. The water on resin prints isn't really an issue or the cause of the stickiness you are seeing. Companies like Peopoly even recommend curing their 3D resin prints IN water to prevent oxidation and ensure faster and more complete cures. So that is not the issue here with what you are seeing.

    • @HellstormWargaming

    The sunlu toughness is my absolute favorite, but i dont use it pure. I tried to mix it in different ratios with the cheapest standard resins you can get and even when i tried a ratio of 4 parts standard and 1 part toughness it still is waaaay tougher than normal resin. If you want it to be tough AND stiff, you should go for a ratio of more than 1:1 standard/toughness. 2:1 is my sweet spot.
    If you want a resin that is super affordable, tough and very stiff, you need to try the hard and tough resin from esun, but it is more a thing for engineering.

  • @CidVeldoril
    @CidVeldoril Год назад +12

    It's not about the detergent, it's the tough resin itself. I have used it before and the "tough" part about it is that it will bend instead of break. I expected harder stuff as well when I printed a model with my white Sunlu toughness resin and was surprised when it bent to the side under its own weight. It is great stuff for things you WANT to be flexible though.

    I didnt realise you shouldnt wash the models before theyre cured.
    My technique for printing with standard resin has been: 1. Take off build plate 2. Wash in ISO in Anycubic Wash station. 3. place in warm water for a few seconds and remove from supports 4. Cure in Cure station.
    I find that the supports are more difficult to remove after its cured, is my technique wrong? I do find that my models are quite brittle.

    • @HellstormWargaming
      @HellstormWargaming  Год назад +1

      Your technique is not wrong at all! Water can effect cheaper resins, but mostly the water is contaminated and needs disposing correctly once used. I started using a hairdryer to warm up the resin for support removal so I dont have the water to deal with!

    After cleaning them in alcohol, I put my prints in a bowl of warm water to better remove the supports, is that what you meant by that?
    Afterwards, I collect all the water that came in contact with resin in a big container and let the traces of resin cure/harden in the sun before dumping the water. Did I forget an important step to make sure the resin is safe to handle?

    There is a huge difference between toughness and hardness.
    adjective: tough - (of a substance or object) strong enough to withstand adverse conditions or rough handling.
    adjective: hard - solid, firm, and rigid; not easily broken, bent, or pierced.
    All tough resin is flexible, thats what makes it tough. I've never used Sunlu tough so not sure if that is normal but the AnyCubic Ultra Tough is pretty similar (not that floppy but pretty close)
    The longer you cure it for the hard its gets. It could be becuase it was left uncured for so long
