I wouldn't if I were you for gaming, unless you ONLY play racing / sim games, most games don't properly support superultrawides, some older games don't even play nice with normal ultrawides. I've had the Dell AW3423DWF since it's release and after watching several reviews plus realizing that a 49" superultrawide at this 1440p resolution is almost as many pixels as 4k (so you'd need a top tier GPU) I had decided to abstain, it doesn't help that armed with the knowledge that the resolution is almost 4k amount of pixels plus in Q1 next year we get monitors with the QD-OLED gen 2 panels it's better to wait to see what those bring. Personally I've decided to wait for ASUS ROG SWIFT 32" PG32UCDM 4k QD-OLED instead, an alternative is the Alienware AW3225QF with the same specs, I mean if you're going for such a big resolution anyway, you might as well go 4K, and then a mid-size screen for enhanced immersion like a normal ultrawide.

I don't have a gaming PC that could drive something like this, but I do drive spreadsheets for a living and I could see one of these being a great option.
I went from the original 1080p 49” to the 1440p 240hz 49” and it’s the absolute top screen for gaming for me. I used to run triple screen setups but these double wide 49” are much better.
I have been using ultra wide monitors for eight years and still now using ultrawide. Glad to hear that you like the experience. Its really great for multi monitor tasks and so do for gaming. Although youtube videos do not support that aspect ratio overall its a great experience.
I ended up 'downgrading' from my Samsung 49" to a more normal 27" AW2721D. The amount of motion sickness I got from using such a large ultrawide (even at a good viewing distance, with FOV cranked) was crazy. The lack of 32:9 game support still sucks, too :/
You would have hated my triple monitor setups. I sit about 3ft away from my 49”. I’ve been gaming on triples since 2009 and game support was very limited. Now most every game I play supports it. For games that are only 16:9 I just game on a 4K 144hz tv. I’m a fairly vulnerable to motion sickness but these super wide setups never bothered me. You have your refresh rate set to max supported i take it?
I went through a period at work with 2x 27" 2560x1440 screens mounted side by side on multi-point display arms (in a developer/database admin/devops type role - so heavily used pretty much all day, every day). After a couple of years of use I realised that the width of the displayable area meant that I was constantly turning my head left and right to go from the far left to far right and vice versa, and this resulted in neck pain from time to time. I got rid of the second screen and settled on just using one screen and I never had any neck pain again. It's worth considering your use of these screens, in the days of wider and wider displays - if you're using them all day, every day, then you may want to consider if it's the best option for you. Yes, I'm old compared to RandomGaminginHD, but just be mindful of what you want to use big wide screens (or several smaller displays) for.
Going from a double-tripple into a 34" 21:9 might be for a smoother experience, still being able to use the side monitors. Recently bought one 1440p of that sort and its been perfect for me. More field of view with less looking up and down compared to my old 32" 16:9.

I got a Lenovo 34" ultrawide a few years ago, and I don't know if I could ever go back to regular 16x9. I use ultrawide for work, but it is also extremely engrossing for gaming. Red Dead 2 is particularly beautiful with the ultra wide vistas. Love my ultra wide, zero regrets.
@@Coffeeenjoyer31 Most of them I have found an ini workaround, or a mod of some kind to fix it. All else fails though, you can still play on 16x9 just with black bars.

I considered a 49 32:9, but now I've been on a 43 inch 4k, 144hz HDR1000 display for a year now (FV43U) that I got for £580, and its just brilliant! Great for gaming, and 16:9 content looks great on it!
Went from 27" to 34" UW and was astounded! Unfortunately my panel had horrible bloom and a stuck pixel and I returned it, but by then they had Black Friday deals on 49" monitors and I had to get it. It has been the best decision I have made for my gaming setup. All the games are super immersive, but be sure you have some horsepower to push all those pixels. I have a 4090 and playing modded Cyberpunk I get 70+ fps with RT Overdrive and DLSS Balanced. You can throw on FG for a smoother experience but I found that FG and RR tend to turn the game into a smeary mess too often at that resolution. This is definitely a monitor that will last multiple upgrades as my 4090 doesn't even come close to maxing it out. This monitor will probably get me through the next 8+ years of gaming when graphics cards will finally be able to push 5120x1440 @ 240Hz natively.
32:9 is super ultrawide, 21:9 is just "ultrawide" ;) I've recently switched to 21:9 and it's great. 32:9 sounds a little extreme though. With some videos using more cinematic aspect ratio 21:9 is perfect, no black bars at all. 32:9 means back to black bars. Also in games aren't minimaps just too far, so you have to look specifically at them?
In the Counter Strike portion of this video you can see just how far the minimap and kill feed are off to the sides. Looks like it would be pretty bad for quick information gathering
Also feel like there is big loss of vertical real estate with 32:9. 21:9 looks more natural. I would guess 32:9 made sense if it was extremely big 60-80" and very curvy to cover all your side and vertical view. But even still, most games just like to stretch the sides intead of filling it with new geometry.
i have recently got an ultrawide, i got a 30 inch ultrawide. 1440p at 200hz on amazon black-friday sale. got it for like £200 down from £500, so i snapped it up. and i have been enjoying the ultrawide single monitor experience,
I have been using the Samsung 49in G9 Odyssey for 2.5 years now, and it's been amazing. Next year, I'm looking to upgrade to the new Samsung 57in monitor. For day trading and gaming it's incredible
I remember I tested an ultrawide resolution on ePSXe with the widescreen fix. It was Sheep Raider (aka Sheep, Dog n' Wolf), one of the best games to play with that fix as the surroundings don't disappear. It looked good, but I'd love to see it in an actual UHD screen.
These are currently £599 and at that price, for what I think is an LG panel, it's a bargain for what seems to be a decent monitor - finally jumped for one as I've been watching for the right price for ages! (Plus I will be using this for my business so can claim the VAT back too, bonus!)
@@malurus_It has standard VESA mounting at the rear - cable management within the monitor is not up to much, there's nothing beyond a small hole in the upright of the stand to pass cables through. I'd imagine if you mount it on a 3rd party stand or wall plate, you could sort your own cable hiding.
Been using a 32:9 for a couple years now and won't go back. One thing I've found very useful, Microsoft power toys, and setting up some fancy zones. My preference is a normal size window in the middle with 2 half size windows on either side.
49in ultrawides are sweet I recently swapped to a 49in Samsung Oled G9. Love the flexibility of it to change pbp and have two monitors when needed. I will never go back to less haha.
You really ought to try more monitors. I'm currently on Alienware's 34" UW OLED 175hz and it's a significant upgrade from my prior UW 144hz IPS in the picture / motion clarity department. The HDR 'pop' is amazing with the right games, too- equal if not more impressive than '4k' and RT...
You the goat 🐐 man looking at stuff like this, some channels would go for an insanely expensive Samsung montior for example, which is fine but these value brands are more interesting to me
This looks Nice to be honest and it maybe a Viable option to the Expensive Samsungs and LG etc I have noticed when writing shot lists and scripts in Documents and editing at the same time second screens or a wide like this can really help productivity Thanks for the Info
I first got a 1080p ultrawide back in 2018 and I loved it, the next year i got a bigger 1440p ultrawide. I will never go back to a 16:9 monitor ever again
I've had my eye on a 49 for awhile. Used to run a triple screen setup, then switched to a single 34" 21:9 and an quest 2. Someone will have a gently used 49 for cheap someday and that's when I'll dabble.
Hey there, great video! Speaking about budget, it would be interesting to see how different, less expensive cards than the 4060 handle this behemoth 😅 Thanks so much for your videos, they always put me in a great mood! 😊
That looks like a really nice monitor! I don't have the room on my desk for a massive 49 inch monitor (that's bigger than the main TV downstairs!) but I also don't have the budget, and with such a large resolution, games are not going to run very nicely on my R5 3600 and RTX 3060. I'll stay with my dual monitor setup instead (consisting of an ASUS 23inch and a Dell 24inch).
I've bought expensive monitors in the past and one thing I can say for it is you do notice it. You can't miss where your money's gone. You are literally looking right at it. So the impact of the upgrade is palpable. You notice things like faster CPUs and GPUs too. But that you can kind of forget about at times. Not so with using crazy monitors.
I used a 21:9 monitor for about 6 years. When I upgraded, I decided to go with a more standard 16:9 because I got tired of having to configure .ini files to get the aspect ratio right. In many games, this would cause other issues as well. I love ultrawide, but the compatibility just wasn't there a lot of the time.
I've switch to a 34inch ultrawide, it is not as wide as your 49inch . Anyways, the ultrawide is the future. 34 inch is not too big at all, and it give the feeling a wide space when playing games. Really increase immersivity
They seem cool as far as gaming is concerned if you just want a super duper cinematic experience but normally I'm just looking to have fun playing games and I feel like I'd end up getting disoriented from such a massive viewing area in most titles 😅. Obviously I can see how these things are a dream for video editing especially if they have goof color accuracy but it's not something I'm not involved in. Maybe if I actually tried one my mind would be blown but as it stands right now if I want a fancy monitor I'd probably be looking at OLED over UW.
personally 21:9 is the most I can handle without it being annoying ( I play games a lot ), depending on game you either don't get 32:9 support or the support is bad. Example being insane fish eye effect, also having to move my head around a ton did my head in. Also 3440x1440p isn't as hard to run for me, I use a 3080 and prefer higher FPS. That said, I can imagine this being perfect for someone who is more productivity focused and racing game focused like you said. And I fully agree about going back to a 16:9 screen after. Its really weird. Would actually like to see more monitor reviews from you. Maybe try hunt down bargain monitors and test them out?
I recently bought the Samsung Odyssey G8 QD-OLED 34' ultrawide monitor, and it's so nice compared to a regular 16:9 panel. Although I think a 49" would be way too much for me. I don't think I'd have a way to sit far enough away from it without it feeling like I was too close to the screen
Been on the market for a 1440 monitor. Been debating getting an ultrawide or not. I have a 27 in monitor rn and think its a good size, i think anything past 32 might be too big for me
I have a 29 inch and 34 inch ultrawide. Only reason I have the 34 inch is for simracing, otherwise I would get a 29 inch or so. More than enough, and the bigger you get, the higher the resolution which may be difficult to drive depending on your hardware.
@@JokerX350 yess 27inch 1440p is tge best.. yuh get the best ppi and best performance. if you r intrested.. get the Benq one. yuh will get 2.1 speakers also..
Interesting first time experience, especially with two computer setup, thanks. But as mostly strategy gamer myself i'd rather go for 16:10 aspect, but that's "ProArt" niche and has 75hz top so far.
Great video on this monitor! Can you center the screen for Windows? To me, that would make it a lot easier to focus on something like an Excel spreadsheet.
For productivity an ultra wide monitor is awesome..I just get too much motion sickness with them ...I went back to my 4x iiyama 24" monitors from my lg ultra wide...if you don't get motion sickness the ultra wide monitor's are awesome.
I personally found the 34" ultrawides more of my taste, the 49" were too much. I started with a Philips 345E2AE/00 for 350 euros, basic IPS ultrawide, but I was like "WOW THIS IS AMAZING", that was back in April 2021. I did try going back to 27" monitors but it just felt too cropped/cramped since trying ultrawide, and then about 2 years ago I got myself an AW3423DWF (OLED ultrawide from Alienware) and my god, best experience I've ever had. The new generation monitors were attractive, but I didn't feel like they were worth it, the jump from 16:9 IPS to ultrawide IPS was huge, as was the jump from IPS to OLED Ultrawide, but paying 1000-1400 euros just for a newer generation of the same thing didn't feel worth it, that's probably also why I'm still on a 3 year old phone, the zenfone 8.
i recently got the samsung oddesey g9 49" 240hz version and i will never go back to anything smaller such an amazing monitor it passed my expectations closest thing you can get to vr without a headset brilliant for sim racing what curve is that monitor?
I would love a superultrawide. But with a 8700 paired with an RX6600, i am absolutely finde with my old 29 inch LG Ultrawide in 2560x1080. It really is THE way to enter or test Ultrawide, without hefty Hardware. The RX6600 handles 21:9 1080p really well. I was so afraid. :D Git the Monitor used with 2 non recognizable faults for 20 Euros, hehe. A STeal intro the World of UW Gaming. 29inch UW may not be as big as others, but i a mused to 24inch 16:9s, so my old Mainmonitor is now my secondary Monitor next to the 29. Since they are the same height, it fits together really nice. I would NEVER go back to 16:9 for Videogames. In other parts of the PC usability, the world ist built around 16:9, so sometimes even Cinemascope gets pumped out in 16:9 with black bars. But it mostly always possible to make it workable. In Videogames it is mostly older titles that strugle with 21:9 but normally it is possible. Or modders did it. If you want Ultrwawide but do not have the Budget, try 29 inch 21:9s in 1080p. There are a few in 34, but thats something you have to consider for yourself, since the PPI (Pixel per inch) is really bad in comparision at this sclae. Think of a 1080p 27 inch Monitor. It is bad, but in my opition not as bad as people try to say. If you can't bear a 1080p Monitor in 2023, it is a problem you have, not the Monitor. It is not a special ability to see, that 1440p has more pixels that 1080p. If i stumble across Money or a bigger GPU, i might go for a 34inch 21:9 in 1440p. But not with this GPU atm lol. I like my fps.
I have a 34" 21:9 and I do think it's a bit narrow height wise, I recently saw the LG 45" 21:9 was awesome for me, if not for the pixel density. As for those massive Uber wides, it's just too much for me unless I were using it for a sim rig. I've watched recorded gameplay from them and the fov Is just too much.
I’ve had a Samsung CRG9 49” 32:9 for the last two years and it’s the best thing I’ve bought for work and gaming. I play a lot of racing titles though, I’d imagine it wouldn’t be great for all genres. I think they’re incredible.
Just a thing I would like to point out: 49" 32:9 panel has the same screen area as 38" 16:9 (4037cm2 vs 3977cm2). Inch measurement is not a very accurate description for how much screen you will actually get. In this case you get exactly 2 27" monitors side by side with no center bezel.
Some of those old cards can't even display anything on the monitor. I tried an old Intel HD graphics iGPU that was not that far away from those old GT cards on a 1440p Samsung monitor via displayport and the monitor would say "out of range" so it's not gonna happen
What size was your old monitor? Was the size just as big of a difference as the ultra wide angle? Years ago i jumped from 24 to 32 on a 1080 and later upgraded to a 1440p but had to stay with the 32 inch size just from being used to it. Love your content!
Nice, it's IPS panel, I went for VA for cheaper price... A big mistake... it's worth to spend extra 100 for better panel. VA looks very washed out compared to IPS/OLED. For work stuff this is fine.
Imo 32:9 monitors don't really shine at full screen gaming, as a lot of the HUD elements are so far apart from one another in most games, which aren't made for such aspect ratio. Where these monitors do shine is having a single 21:9 window open in the middle, while still having your discord/web browser/whatever open on the sides.
Coming from a pair of 27" 1440p's to a single 49" UW 1440p monitor and a side 16:9 1440p monitor, it's definitely something. I did have to make some compromises with my current setup though. I had to delete the shelf of my desk in the process of planning the setup, it's of course more taxing on the hardware(currently on a 4060 right now, hope to go back to a 4070 in the near future as my system housing the 4070 ran into technical difficulties that I could not work with as I am going to school and it took up plenty of free time to tinker with it), but anyways. It's been a good experience using my UW monitor, just needed some adjusting visually but overall, not bad. The monitor in question: a now-outdated CRG9 that was refurbished by Samsung themselves that I got on eBay for $769.99 USD. Not a bad deal if I say so myself, compared to the new UW's on the cheaper end going for as little as $900 USD.

These are currently £599 and at that price, for what I think is an LG panel, it's a bargain for what seems to be a decent monitor - finally jumped for one as I've been watching for the right price for ages! (Plus I will be using this for my business so can claim the VAT back too, bonus!)
Same I got it for that price too! Hoping my pc will run it okay 🤧
Is it mountable? Are the cables able to be well hidden?
@@malurus_It has standard VESA mounting at the rear - cable management within the monitor is not up to much, there's nothing beyond a small hole in the upright of the stand to pass cables through. I'd imagine if you mount it on a 3rd party stand or wall plate, you could sort your own cable hiding.
@@chriswilcox8977 Thanks for replying :)
Love your channel. Thanks for sharing your experience
I would love to see you review an oled gaming monitor, they're pretty expensive but it'll absolutely blow your mind!
16:9 is Gods chosen aspect ratio
Rgh from cheap stuffs to really good stuffs,i am happy for you!!
You the goat 🐐 man looking at stuff like this, some channels would go for an insanely expensive Samsung montior for example, which is fine but these value brands are more interesting to me
Thanks :)
This looks Nice to be honest and it maybe a Viable option to the Expensive Samsungs and LG etc
I have noticed when writing shot lists and scripts in Documents and editing at the same time second screens or a wide like this can really help productivity Thanks for the Info
I first got a 1080p ultrawide back in 2018 and I loved it, the next year i got a bigger 1440p ultrawide. I will never go back to a 16:9 monitor ever again
Was torn between something like this and the Aliewnare QD OLED DWF but the BF offer at £660 for the QD OLED was a no brainer, its incredible!
I was almost sold till i saw the 14ms response, i dont game competitively anymore but still love a fluid feeling game of a 5 or less ms
Because of this review. going to buy one.
I remember my first experience with ultrawide for the first time. it was amazing. But since then, I'm back to 16:9, albeit a 43 inch 4k TV on my desk.
Why go back 16:9?
I've had my eye on a 49 for awhile. Used to run a triple screen setup, then switched to a single 34" 21:9 and an quest 2. Someone will have a gently used 49 for cheap someday and that's when I'll dabble.
Hey there, great video! Speaking about budget, it would be interesting to see how different, less expensive cards than the 4060 handle this behemoth 😅 Thanks so much for your videos, they always put me in a great mood! 😊
I had a 49” ultra wide for a couple weeks. I ended up returning it because it felt too thin. I enjoyed the wide aspect but it just wasn’t tall enough.
I absolutely love my 34” curved Samsung ultra wide. Would love to have a 49”. I think I would probably need a 4090 to drive the thing.
That is stunning!
I've switch to a 34inch ultrawide, it is not as wide as your 49inch . Anyways, the ultrawide is the future. 34 inch is not too big at all, and it give the feeling a wide space when playing games. Really increase immersivity
Nice to see a bit of variation keep up the good work and now i want one to per whit my 11900kf rx6800 rig
Yes exactly this, if I have to 'scan' my screen I'm out.
Damn that seems crazy wide!! 😅 Too much for me I think. Great vid as always bro.
It sounds like you had an interesting experience. Hope I get a chance to try an ultrawide monitor someday.
nice bro solid upgrade!!!
4:54 Holding A-Long & A-Short from A site good selling point👌🏻
personally 21:9 is the most I can handle without it being annoying ( I play games a lot ), depending on game you either don't get 32:9 support or the support is bad.
Reviews of bargain monitors sound really cool
I recently bought the Samsung Odyssey G8 QD-OLED 34' ultrawide monitor, and it's so nice compared to a regular 16:9 panel. Although I think a 49" would be way too much for me. I don't think I'd have a way to sit far enough away from it without it feeling like I was too close to the screen
Nice review. I don't care about price I will buy this monitor type for game streaming. :)
I have a 34" I use as a spare and I thought that was big. These 49" screens are mammoth. Makes me feel better gaming on a 55" 4k 120hz. 😅
This looks awesome.
Yeah was really fun to look at :)
Been on the market for a 1440 monitor. Been debating getting an ultrawide or not. I have a 27 in monitor rn and think its a good size, i think anything past 32 might be too big for me
Yeah those sizes are perfect in my opinion. It’s when you go ultra wide and then go back which makes them seem tiny haha
I have a 29 inch and 34 inch ultrawide. Only reason I have the 34 inch is for simracing, otherwise I would get a 29 inch or so. More than enough, and the bigger you get, the higher the resolution which may be difficult to drive depending on your hardware.
get the one from Benq lineup
@@Chopsticks3Djust wish i could try one out before pulling the trigger and getting one… thanks for the advice though!
@@JokerX350 yess 27inch 1440p is tge best.. yuh get the best ppi and best performance. if you r intrested.. get the Benq one. yuh will get 2.1 speakers also..
I bought myself today a 34 inch widescreen curved from MSI and I thought that was big … can’t imagine how 49” looks like
Nice :) And massive is how it looks 😂
Interesting first time experience, especially with two computer setup, thanks.
But as mostly strategy gamer myself i'd rather go for 16:10 aspect, but that's "ProArt" niche and has 75hz top so far.
Great video on this monitor! Can you center the screen for Windows? To me, that would make it a lot easier to focus on something like an Excel spreadsheet.
8:38 I've legitimately had nightmares like that, that's actually terrifying ,_,
Once you've experienced the sweet taste of ultrawide you can never go back. I prefer 21:9 though, 38" is the sweet spot for me.
It’s also the higher resolutions/PPI these days that result in less eye strain, in the PS2 days we were dealing with like 480p max.
Yoo the monitors pretty nice
ONE OF US. ONE OF US. ONE OF US.
😁
For productivity an ultra wide monitor is awesome..I just get too much motion sickness with them ...I went back to my 4x iiyama 24" monitors from my lg ultra wide...if you don't get motion sickness the ultra wide monitor's are awesome.
Did you say a one year warranty ? That sounds rather poor
Great monitor!
I’ve been daily driving my Odyssey G9 for almost six months now. Once you get used to it, you’ll never want to go back to 16:9
good thoughts
I most enjoy ultrawides in simulators. DCS, Assetto Corsa. Truly the optimal experience, next best thing is VR.
Tho it is possible to 'go too wide'.
hell yeah popped collar like my boy Chad Warden!
i recently got the samsung oddesey g9 49" 240hz version and i will never go back to anything smaller such an amazing monitor it passed my expectations closest thing you can get to vr without a headset brilliant for sim racing what curve is that monitor?
Cool review...l bet fps would be cool to play on it
I have a 34" 21:9 and I do think it's a bit narrow height wise, I recently saw the LG 45" 21:9 was awesome for me, if not for the pixel density. As for those massive Uber wides, it's just too much for me unless I were using it for a sim rig. I've watched recorded gameplay from them and the fov Is just too much.
I have a 34“ uwqhd and a 29“ whd Monitor. I like it wide. Both combined with a 6950xt, the 29“ is better for high fps.
We need to see the legendary GT710 attempt to drive this monitor
😂 not sure it can handle the resolution/refresh rate at the same time lol
Some of those old cards can't even display anything on the monitor. I tried an old Intel HD graphics iGPU that was not that far away from those old GT cards on a 1440p Samsung monitor via displayport and the monitor would say "out of range" so it's not gonna happen
What size was your old monitor? Was the size just as big of a difference as the ultra wide angle? Years ago i jumped from 24 to 32 on a 1080 and later upgraded to a 1440p but had to stay with the 32 inch size just from being used to it. Love your content!
Great video mate, I'm thinking of buying one. Is the width the same as a 24" or 27" monitor?
i got 49" Samsung and that motivated me to upgrade PC.
What sucks is how many games are incompatible with 32:9...
As an ultrawide owner myself I always keep the start menu centred on the taskbar in Windows 11
I have recently got a 144hz 32 inch 4K monitor and Im looking at this and thinking hmm maybe i should have got one of these !
Nice screen real estate. Now i want one 😂
Great video! Do you happen to know how much the monitor weighs? There’s nothing online about the weight!
I just bought a 27 inch 1440p monitor for U$ 150 (before taxes and shipping), and that's as high I can go, for budget and space.
Kinda bummed I didn't see the ultrawide monitor in the garden first
