@@Milkers777 Nah fam he got one up over MJ because this man was also a serious conductor of music. MJ was the greatest performer that ever lived but it was Quincy Jones that was the genius behind his greatest music.
From the first time I heard Donny when my Dad bought home his albums in the early 70's even though I was a young teenager I was instanlty moved and hooked and just when he was in his prime heatbroken at his loss.. His Live Album to me, is the greatest live album ever... Forever missed The Great Donny Hathaway..
I wish I could know his value of death. What it really was? I wanna know his mind? He puts me in the life I live. I see it clearly. I feel. I can write my life story from him
Donny is so amazing. One of the greatest voices ever. The first time I heard The Ghetto I was completely blown away by the melody, his voice, the grooves. One of the best songs I've ever heard, and certainly the best bassline. It still drives me nuts every time I hear it, a surefire Number 1, shoul'dve won a grammy. The live 12 minute version is also absolutely ELECTRIFYING. Such a shame there's not alot of footage of Donny, and he isn't as well known as many of his soul peers, like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder etc (both deserving). He deserves more recognition as a singer, songwriter and musician. It's so sad he died so young. He was a sensitive, talented, special soul. Bless him. Love from Australia x
This was absolutely delightful! I think he passed away the year I was born, so I never got a chance to see any real footage of the man in action, ... only his recordings. Thank you so much for this!
Im 33years old. Learning about influencial African Americans in the 60s n 70s, i stumbled upon Donny Hathaway. I still have on music training wheels lol. (Learning to appreciate sound that came b4 me). Yea
A song for you, written by Leon Russell and covered by the Temptations is perhaps MR. Hathaway's best piece of music in my opinion. If you listen to the Temptations' version, it sounds like a man singing about a woman. In MR. Hathaway's version, he is clearly singing to God. It's curious to me, that the same song can be so different. MR. Hathaway's version will almost bring tears to a grown man's eyes! Give it a listen.
Thank you for putting up this timeless gem of video for us to see and appreciate. This voice was so unique, and will never be repeated. Gifted, both in voice and keyboard, and percussion too. Just great. Thank you
I never minded musicians of all colors and genres working together. Color doesn’t matter, the rhythm does. Like Donny jamming with a white, playing our African Congo message. Beautiful!
Donny IS THE GOAT. PERIOD ❤ I have been trying to compare his voice to just one person's voice. The voice that comes close is Lalah Hathaway. That's DNA. This guy name Smoth?? or PJ Morton can sing his songs.. I would love to see a video of Donny singing WE NEED YOU NOW.....
Yes Lordy! My main, main, musician EVER! I got him years ago and his healing music for my culture if we can just get over ourselves. ❤❤❤❤ I miss him and Marvin Gaye the most!
Thanks for sharing this rare video because on you tube we can’t find the videos of Donny!maybe few small short clips! And yes Donny it was great unique dommage juste he can be there too hear young generation of great voice singing his songs!
Timeless!! Before my time because the only MUSIC you've heard coming up was what your parents played. GREATIS VOICE. I HAVE EVER HEARD, AND WILL "EVER HEAR TILL KINGDOM COME BABY!!!!
Too many people shadowed Donny's genius of composing. from Stevie to Roberta to Prince. Listen to Strange Relationship and you will hear Everything is Everything.
I definitely put Earl up there with Master Henry Gibson badass percussions Donny Hathaway man wow this is a classic I never even knew this footage existed I remember my dad bought this album when I was a kid back in the 70s man I wish I could go back to that era!
Gracias, por estos episodios de la vida artística de este genio. Escuché su voz maravillosa siendo muy joven y me hace feliz poderlo ver en estas imágenes. Muchas gracias.
When is some going to release his Tonight Show with ,Johnny Carson performance from 1972. or his Bill Cosby Tv Special performance from 1972. Also his 1972 performance on (PBS) where he sang " He Aint Heavy". Im sure he did Radio interviews & commercials for McDonald's & Afro Sheen that could be released. I even saw a clip on an Atlantic Records anniversary show of him in the studio with producer Arif Mardin recording. I'm not sure if they feel the public intrest isnt there for someone to pull of this together for his fans. Over the last #25 years Rhino & Reeling in the years productions & other Music archival companies have pulled together other lost compilations for everyone but Donny , saying that footage doest exist of him is bullshit. They now how to do research & find it. Atlantic records had him busy from 1970-1973
I guess his music hasn’t reached millions because we have Blueface’s et’al’s! Black ppl don’t understand. Rap is cool but not to the detriment of blk living! I miss him dearly!
I consider it a hate crime that we don't have more footage of this great man.
No autotune or computer voices here. Just raw soul music.
Amen! When did we decide machines make better music than people do?
This dude was one of the only artists ever that breathed and personified music in its essence. He was the greatest musician of all time in my opinion.
Close
Only other is Prince to me
Strange dude I hear…
That’s Michael Joseph Jackson! But he’s up there👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👑🌟

@@JohnShanklin-nc7ql I agree. I never heard anyone refer to him as less than a genius. He was a musicians musician.

Donny had such a distinctive voice. He will never be duplicated in the industry.
The closest is Peabo Bryson!

Flack's voice is so easy. She's not even trying. Truly beautiful.

So this performance was in 1972.Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack were one of the best combination in history in my opinion.
In addition to Donny the rhythm section was tight
