He was fine until he got into that dark industry. It’s the same sad ending for so many precious and talented artists. There’s a whole evil dark side that sucks out the soul. Rest easy sweet songbird 🌹
You are absolutely 💯.
I definitely agree with you
I agree. Stress and trauma can trigger schizophrenia. The music industry is a dark demonic place.
Agreed, he definitely was tampered with - they feared that he could bring masses together. - something doesnt add up. This guy could bring out your last tear weeping like a baby just with his voice. A proper angel and the powers that be knew it.
That's cause someone drugged him with some form of LSD 💯
He definitely deserves to be inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
Obviously you care or you wouldn't have slimed into the comments. @onionhemingway-oc1pq
It is time now for us to honor ourselves and each other and not wait for others to deign a touch on the shoulder as a show if appreciation.
We, the talented ones should now cut the strings, remember who we are, and do the things that divine self awareness and self love inspire.
shut up@onionhemingway-oc1pq
He is not in Hall of Fame 😢
@@darrenjohnson7857 sadly and unfortunately no. But he definitely deserves to be in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
the first time I heard "Someday We'll All Be Free" I couldn't stop crying.
The same for me.
Me too
Same here. Aretha Franklin's version in the end credits of the film Malcolm x got me weeping.😭
I still can't get thru that song without shedding a tear to this day! 😢 I love him! 😢
I can't remember the first time, but I do recall that song causing me to grieve Sasha's death in The Walking Dead show, which was a character I wouldn't have otherwise grieved. Which ultimately proves my theory that music ABSOLUTELY AND UNDISPUTEDLY influences emotions, and emotions influence actions, especially the actions of the inexperienced.
That being said Modern day POPULAR blck music is mostly self destructive denigrative trash, and it IS influencing our kids and young adults, and this is facts no matter how many times people disagree. BRING BACK RREEAALL BLK MUSIC✊🏾
Donnie shouldn't have been alone that night he fell to his death. Especially after he was seen huddled in a corner at the studio, making delusional statements. This man was a genius in a class all his own. His voice and musical sound can never be replaced. He is missed dearly ❤
Allegedly, Roberta was in the room when it happened…
@@MrBean617 As much as I have kept up with his story over the years, this the first I heard of Roberta being there. Never heard this mentioned before, are you sure?
@@lexdee523 I’m positive. I read about in ‘04. I’m not saying it’s true, though.
Roberta Flack said he was acting normal when he scored a song together that day

He had voice of angel
He had a Beautiful voice. What a gift he was! His daughter, Lalah's voice is just as beautiful and as rich as his. His songs make you think, smile, and reflect. I'm thankful he recorded songs with Roberta Flack. Great duo. RIP Mr. Hathaway. 🙏🏽💛
Amen ❤
I learned that Donny married Eulalia Vann. She also had a beautiful voice but was kind of a wallflower. I also taught a relative of Roberta Flack in my very early days as a music teacher.
I saw Lalah in concert. I'm a big fan.
@mdmcdd1117 Wow, that's wonderful! I'm jealous. lol Seriously. I'm happy you got to see her. I'm a big fan, too! 💛😊
WOW!! ONLY 33 YRS OLD! MUCH LOVE ❤ AND RESPECT 🙏 TREMENDOUSLY TALENTED AND GIFTED YOUNG BRO!! SMOOTH BEYOND COMPARISON!!

@morrishartman5686 They always use their "code" numbers when they do their rituals. 😢 DH's death never sat well with me, especially when I researched his history and his death while he was in the industry. Very sad. 😢 The industry is very evil and demonic. I think most people know that by now. DH probably didn't want to play that game.
Gone but never forgotten ❤😢

You Got A Friend. My favorite song. No one sound, sang,or even tried to imitate his voice. The man was truly gifted.
Often imitated, but never duplicated. He was a musical genius! 🎶🎤🎶🎹🎹🎶🎤🎶
I'm 49 and I think about Donnie everyday since 1985, every year I play his Christmas song. And everyday I play his music. My ex husband has schizophrenia and it's impacting me to this day.
Donny Hathaway was the real deal in his time.god bless 🙏 his soul in heaven.
🙏🏾💐💐💐🙏🏾
My brother has paranoid schizophrenia, and used to periodically quit taking his meds, claiming he didn't like the side effects and didn't need to take them, only to go crazy all over again. His sickness took a terrible toll on my parents, myself and anyone close to my brother. Life is incredibly cruel at times.
My brother took his life in 1980 and he was crazy about Donny, he was a manic depressive.
Keep the faith 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
So much talent gone too soon
His voice takes me everytime..... Touched and blessed
I don’t believe he jumped out the window as it was told then. Rest in peace legend🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
How sad. I do remember him because of Roberta Flack and he had an amazing voice . I was very young . Thanks for that history lesson because I had no idea he had suffered from mental illness
I love you more than u will ever know!! One of my all time favorite ❤️ greatest soul crooner ever
Donny Hathaway is one of my all time favorite musician/singers of all time. He was a gifted genius and he pass that gene to his beautiful daughter. She sounds just like him. See you when you return in the next life.
The GOAT!
Nobody sounds like him, not even Lalah
Man Donny aint killed himself. the musicians in that day all talk about what they think really happened . The greatest singer of all time
Mental illness can cause suicide. Study facts bud.
Right…he said what was happening and people still on that schizophrenia stuff.

@@idontknow7738 Yes, Yash Qaraah put me d many years ago, the stories used to sound crazy because it was new to me. Dead at 33…yeah, I’ve seen this before…
Happens all the time. Your point?
"The Closer I Get To You"
Donny's parts...soul moving!
Donny is My favorite singer of all time. He and Aretha Franklin’s voices were like instruments. Donny is in heavy rotation on my playlists daily. When I first heard Luther Vandross sing, I could hear that he was inspired by Donny after singing background for him and Roberta Flack. Luther had his own personal style, but the riffs between falsetto to deep tenor, were definitely inspired by Donny, Luther (another favorite gone too soon😢) definitely was inspired, but was definitely an original too. RIP to all of the talented beloved performers we love, who have given us so much joy. ❤☮️
AND let's not forget David Ruffin and Gerald Levert.
@@whatyousay9816 Yep. Two more of our talented brothers. I don’t care about David’s private life, no one can say that he wasn’t talented. I grew up in the Temptations Smoky Donny, (and others who could really SANG so I’m kinda spoiled and tend to shy away from most of today’s “music “😄😄Back then talent was the norm, now there are very few and most are studio artists who sound like 💩in person.🤦🏾♀️
It’s a shame and disgrace that he hasn’t been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!😡 It’s still the same old story of deception greed and glory.
Let’s hope he made it into the hall of heaven than a useless rock and roll hall of fame.

When your pushed to your death and there's no autopsy 🎉 I agree his death is very suspect
His death always gave me the side eye. 👀👁👀
@@idontknow7738 i love donnys voice his 🎹 playing is outstanding he was laugh love of his era Mr Hathaway still playing loud
@user-md8of9yj1d He was a musical genius. And, he was at the prime of his career when he died at 33. What happened to him, I do believe it was a set up. He was under "mind control" is the reason why people say he had schizophrenia. He was having a mental breakdown because he was breaking through the "mind control" and his "handlers" couldn't handle him anymore. It was because they wanted his music catalog. Just like they did with Prince. Smh. Very sad! He was a musical genius, songwriter, and vocalist as well. Very sad. These people are very diabolical! Smh. 😢
@@idontknow7738 the way he played piano is hard to believe he had any wrong in his mind . This is one of thee only musicians that make the back of my mind spark when you hear 🎹

Roberta Flack said it best. Donny Hathaway Lives!
When every knee bends and every tongue confess the truth will not be hidden forever

Very spiritual musician. Loved "for all we know".
That's my favorite one too
I remember him before Roberta Flack. Was always a fan. He made a song recorded live entitled, ‘The Ghetto’ that was a storm in the AA community. Sort of like an anthem. He remade ‘A Song for You’ that was recorded again by his daughter. Fantastic singer, as is Laila.
That tribute to Shirley Hembhill was touching, Thanks for making these videos about forgotten talent
My pleasure!
I watched a video on RUclips, about 2 months ago. In the video, it revealed the nefarious tactics of certain CIA agents. An agent was to assassinate someone, who was a problem. 2 men worked together on a project. One of the men was becoming concerned about the work. He became a mark. He eventually was said to have jumped from a hotel window. But the RUclips video revealed he had been pushed. One agent was quoted as saying, the pushing method posed little problem, being labeled as suicide. I immediately thought about Mr. Hathaway.
I also remember stories of Mr. Hathaway saying they want to take over his music He adamant about concerns of being targeted. He was eventually diagnosed with being paranoid schizophrenia. 🤔
Bullshit. Show articles and links.
His music has gotten me through some dark times. RIP Mr. Hathaway, you were the greatest!
You Are My Heaven is one of my favorite songs of all time. My youngest son and I sing this song frequently ever since he was a baby. He's now 24 years old.
I like Back Together Again.
For me it's Thank You Master For My Soul - that is so underrated
Yes! That's one of my favorite songs too!
Loved the song "Back together again"
Powerful, Donny Hathaway is one of my all time favorite singers, so underrated!!!
It's time for his motion picture to be made,
Long life the great Donny Hathaway
Donnie Hathaway was an DYNAMIC 🎉 vocalist, even in passing he will always in my heart be the BEST in the world of music, this Man had one of those unique voices that is extremely rare, sadly many people refuse to believe he Suffered from one of the many horrible Mental illnesses that exist within our world😢 he was ONE of a KIND.
Just my opinion but I don’t believe he took his own life. I believe due to his schizophrenia he jumped in part due to the unwanted horrible perceived feelings that he was having, but I don’t believe for one second that was intentional and wanted to end it all. I feel really bad.
I’ve always thought the same thing too. I think the voices told him too or he was trying to escape the voices and stuff. Mental illness is such a horrible disease. And they didn’t have the resources, meds , etc back then that they have now. And like most ppl they take the meds till the start feeling better. Then stop once they think they’re ok. It’s sad. He was such a talented musical genius. In such a short period of time. He left such a powerful impact on the musical industry and the world honestly. He’s definitely one of my favs!
I believe that he was set up.
@@justanadams9430Be fucking quiet
@justanadams9430 Finally, someone who knows. I can't believe that people don't know how the entertainment/music industry rolls. I doubt he had schizophrenia. Something else was going on. I'll just leave it at that. P.S. He was only 33 when he died. That number, by itself, speaks volumes. 😢
@@idontknow7738
It's hard to accept the tragedy of untreated mental illness, but making up conspiracy theories doesn't help one to heal. He wasn't on his medication for schizophrenia and that resulted in his death.
Who owns his catalog now?😮
Awesome talent, so is his daughter.
He said it and I believe him he answered my questions I felt like they killed him and they have been for so long and is still doing it come on BLK people and fighting back ain't wrong ❤️🌎🙏

I’ll never forget the day that I read that the marvellous Donny Hathaway had died. I was being driven home from work with my dad and he had bought the local paper I was reading it and saw the article that said he had committed suicide. My stomach dropped, I thought Nooooo please not Donny Hathaway, I couldn’t believe it. He wasn’t well known in the UK only by the Roberta Flack duets. When I heard his voice with Roberta Flack I knew he was someone special and bought all his albums. He had one of the greatest voices ever and was an immense talent. A great singer, writer, keyboard player, producer, arranger, a genius. Mental illness is a horrific thing to have, it claims so many lives. His daughter Lalah is keeping his memory going, she sings just like him. She is not getting the recognition she deserves just like her father, as I said Donny wasn’t well known in the UK.
He suffered with mental health issues one of the greatest!
He and Stevie Wonder were supposedly about to record music together before Brother Donny's passing. Seems as if he barely scratched the surface of his incomparable potential. May he R.I.P.
Quincy Jones? Not surprised😢
Exactly
I still feel badly about what happened to him. So many people failed him. All he needed was psychological help.
Roberta should have stopped tell him to leave his family for her now she suffering
He continuously stopped taking his meds-very common in people with schizophrenia…
Learn the facts before you blame everyone BUT the patient!
@@renee5331 that’s not what happened. At all!
You morons just post garbage based on YOUR opinions-which are worthless.
Don't believe everything you hear when it comes to people who die that was a part of the industry. Research the history of the entertainment/music history. It will make your skin crawl.
"...needed was psychological help," in the US?! We've one of the worst mental healthcare systems in the world, and his illness was severe, and often gets worse as he gets older. Back then they would've just thrown him in an institution. So sad.
"I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" Donny is truly my favorite singer in the whole wide world!!!!!!

He wasn’t hallucinating, he was spiritual and couldn’t handle the voices he was hearing.

His daughter Lalah is carrying out his legacy beautifully!
He passed when she was only 11.
He probably was killed. The entertainment industry is brutal. The same thing happens over and over to various artists the industry, with the same ole explanations
Be quiet
I don’t think he was schizophrenic, I think he had bipolar. I’m sure all those meds made him jump. Psych meds for the wrong diagnosis does that. They should not have allowed Jesse Jackson at the funeral🙄
?????
Between being bombarded with demonic voices..directives..suggestions..and impulses..is usually what compels a schizoprenic..as well as one who's bombarded with the same. A LOT of anti-psychotics have a "suicide" side effect. He was obviously extremely depressed..the portal to acting tragically on those spiritual suggestions to "end it all." When one is involved in that high stress demonic craft of "entertainment" the pressure..manipulation..constant threats..competitiveness..and cut-throat nature of that industry..you're in jeopardy of being driven to such sorrow. The depths of that dark playing field leads directly to all things not God. Incorporate his personal life..finances..and general well-being..he might've felt "all alone" and helpless. A great deal of schiz sufferers succumb to the same..Psychiatry can consume and overwhelm you..especially when you can see the spiritual torment of it..
Jesse'was damage control to keep folks from THINKING!
He was one of the greatest missed by many rip see you on the other side

So grateful that I had the opportunity to see his daughter in concert.
It is so important our community remove the stigma surrounding mental health.
He was a masterpiece of singing and music gone too soon He is one of my favorite artists
Now that we know about MK Altra and how Holly weird really works... No accident
Exactly.. he knew what was going on.. they tried to keep him drugged! He was traumatized! Lord have mercy 🙏🏾💗
They shouldvhave sought him medical assistance when they found him distraught in the middle of a session
Mental illness wasn't as understood back then and the medications had awful side affects so people often got off their meds and refused to stay compliant. Most religious people saw mental illness as a spiritual problem or the work of Satan rather than a mental/physical illness. Donnie and those around him more than likely did the best they could at that time. *speaking from experience due to my mom being diagnosed during that same Era while I was only 5 yrs old. 45 yrs later and here we are still struggling with her mental illness. Her story mirrors Donnie's to a tee. Praise God my mom has made it to 71 yrs old but I have to keep her compliant by my own hand. RIP Donnie. Gone and never forgotten. Mental illness is such a sad dis-ease. 😢
They did. His illness wouldn't allow him to stay compliant. He kept getting off his meds once he felt well and was stable again. Sad😢
His illness was the industry. 😉 Things that make you go, "Hmmm."
A man who went to school with Roberta Flack’s son in ‘87 said that Roberta’s son told him that Donny killed himself because Roberta didn’t wanna be with him. He also said that Roberta was in the room when it happened.
What man?
He was under Ultra mind control
Sure was!
It look as if he was attacked by demons. Some witches did something to him..It is written 'my people perish because of the lack of knowledge'

MY MOTHER WAS SCHIZOPHRENIC BUT THERE WERE TIMES WHEN SHE MADE HELLA SENCE SPIRITUALLLY AND WORLD LIKE. SO THEY SHOULD NEVER BE TOTALLY DISMISSED. WHAT I AM GETTING AT HERE IS THIS. DONNY RAN INTO A CORNER SAYING THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO STEAL HIS MUSIC MAY HAVE VERY WELL BEEN TRUE. THE FACT THAT HE MISTERIOUSLY COMMITED SUICIDE MAKES ME WONDER ABOUT THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. THEY KNEW DONNY WAS TALENTED AND KNEW HE HAD SOME MENTAL ISSUES AS WELL. PERHAPS THEY TRIED TO MANIPULATE HIM $$ WISE AND HE REFUSED. IM THINKING... THEY KNEW HE WAS BIG AND LOVED BY FANS SO HE DIDN'T NEED THEM AS MUCH AND COULD DO IT ON HIS OWN. THEY DON'T LIKE YOU BEING TOO INDEPENDENT. JUST LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED TO SINGER, SALINA. THEY NEW SHE WOULD NOT SUBMIT AND SELL HER SOUL BUT HAD ALREADY HAD A HUGH FAN BASE MADE ON HER OWN POPULARITY. SHE'S GONE TOO.....IJS.
