I watched my mom die from cancer almost a year again and I no what Minnie meant when she said she don't wanna go. My mama said the same thing. By God only I'm able.
Minnie is by far my favorite female vocalist. I was 10 when she passed and I remember hearing she passed on the radio station while living in Los Angeles. I cried like she was family
Big ups Celebrity Underrated....Minnie Ripperton. Her beautiful voice and God given talent. I've been waiting for her story to be told right. Beautiful heart and soul. She was blessed with a beautiful and talented daughter as well. Let's not forget her God daughter Teena Marie. May they keep flying with the angels. Much respect
Whitney had the ability to go higher, she had a whistle register but never used it. Minnie was a genius! I adored her and was devastated when she passed. I was 4 and a half and I will always remember the Minnie Riperton tribute on Soul Train.
Deniece Williams has a 5 octave also. Deniece had been singing back up for Stevie Wonder for a number of years. I've always believed that's why she didn't get the credit Minnie did. "Back Down Memory Lane" is my favorite song of hers. When she sung that note, "I don't wanna go," it gave me chills as a child. When I got older, I found out that she knew she was dying and that's what she was singing about. One of my sisters used to sing that all of time when I was little. She could hit that 5 octave throat whistle too. One of my favorite album covers of all time is the "Perfect Angel" cover. Thanks for this upload. You brought back some fond memories for me.
So sad😢. Wonderlove was Stevie's treasure trove of talented female background singers throughout the years (Angela Winbush, Maysa, etc.) Curious...was Deniece the start to that?
I love her song 'Reasons' - that i still listen to presently. I love her voice but only in that song but in Stevie Wonders song 'Ordinary Pain', Minnie sang background vocals.
This story makes me cry everytime it makes me think of my mama taking chemo she was only 33 when she passed I was 12 years old then then turned around my father had to take it as well

Love all her music. My favorite is Come To My Garden 💗💗💗🌹🌺🌼🐦🦜🐤. She definitely was an Angel. Not only vocally, but her mere presence and her eyes showed such a joy and delicacy. May she Rest in Peace 🕊️.
I love Minnie Riperton. How sad it was when she died. I still feel sad whenever I see any clips of her and how she died so young. Minnie Riperton was a vocal beast and a class act. Although Minnie Riperton was supposed to be a 5 Octave singer when she sang live she could go to 8 octaves, I heard her live many times, what a gifted woman. Rip Minnie Riperton...
Many people have been able to reach the whistle register but not everyone can sing actual words at that pitch. Minnie could and it was so effortless and natural to her. She was a special talent. May she continue to Rest In Peace.
One of my favorite songs is her duet with Peabo Bryson " Here We Go."" Her lyrics, the instruments & arraignment blended so perfectly, it's a beautiful song, it's underrated & timeless! I read that her husband was mentioned as the songwriter. Her voice was a gift🙏🏾❤. Thanks for presenting her story.

I loved it whenever Minnie came on the radio in the early 70s, Had to buy her albums. I had a very definitive collection of her music on casette tapes. I especially loved her "Perfect Angel" album...and especially her underrated hit, "Lovin You"! I played that song endlessly...until I got into other genres of music, like smooth jazz and the like...but I felt very sorry the day she died in 1979. I was so numb that I had to play "Lovin You" so many timews to console myself. All I can say now today is that I her "Perfect Angel" CD and I played it for my daughter until she was 7 years old. God bless her soul, I loved her high octave range and such a beautiful voice....so gifted. She blessed us all...her upbringing and all...plus also giving us her equally talented daughter, Maya Rudolph. God bless her. I loved Minnie...keep singing and soar with the angels in praise! Thank you for your voice and talent, Minnie...I'll see you in heaven soon.

Queen of the Whistle Register. As a boy "Lovin' You" & that multi-octave vocal range - blew my mind! Riperton did the bird sounds too!!!
Thanks you for all your hard work you do for us 👍
My pleasure!
You are a Great Story Teller. Can,t believe she was only 31 when she went to be with the Lord
