Robert Hanley is my Great-Uncle, and a brave man. I am incredibly proud of him and of his fellow soldiers, all of whom fought bravely for the liberation of the Netherlands.
Words cannot express my feelings. I am Dutch born, now Canadian. I spoke with my mother in NL this week, she was in tears telling me some of the stories of her childhood in WWII. Some she had never shared before. It was 75 years ago. I cannot imagine the joy and relief after being freed from tyranny, but I am grateful to have a sense from my Opa and Oma and also from my parents. Thank you to your great uncle and to all the veterans.
First Last Thank you for your kind words. These stories serve as a reminder for us now to do what is right, take care of one another, and take a stand against injustice. I hope that your Grandma is well.
@@janayahanley3398 You are absolutely right, they made heroic choices. My last grandparent died 10 years ago, but they all certainly never forgot and made sure the grandchildren knew. One example that made an impression on me here in Toronto, they used to go to the veterans wing at Sunnybrook and bring tulips for the veterans. Just regular people, very anonymously. My other Opa was captured by Nazis more than once (Dutch resistance). He was literally willing to die to fight against the Nazis. That is what really brought my mother to tears. It's just too horrible and far too detailed to explain here. I took several pages of notes so the history is not lost. Thank god for the veterans.
Thank you so much for liberating my birth country. Dutch by birth, Canadian by choice, I will never forget. They did so much and gave everything. Tears of gratitude and respect.
My two brothers and sister and I as as well as my parents were born in Canada. I have an Opoe still. My Opa passed knowing he lived a very happy life. I also am fortunate enough to have my other "3" with me still...my father is Polish and my mother is Dutch! All Canadian though. No sense in calling people dp's now
our veterans deserve this, our present generals complain on public media when people get up on Ottawa war memorials attempting to restore all our freedoms, they deserve condemnation
It’s always nice seeing our veterans get the recognition they deserve.

Defensie zie ik als een noodzakelijkheid, met name in tijden van nood, zal ik maar zeggen.
