Not sure why Sam Chui is so popular when videos like this one has better commentary, and in my mind better quality. Hope you get more subs and continue to make good content!
that's a terrible seat/cabin layout: facing other people would seem a bit weird but the worst - CAN'T SPEND TIME LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW! #seriously One of the joys of travel is watching the tiny world go by. What were they thinking?!
There is nothing much to see out the window on a night flight and the sleep is way better than other products, as is the ability to be able to recline fully during take off and landing, and get out of the seat even when the tray table is being used. When reclined you don't notice the other passengers.
Brilliant review, thank you. I've just come across your vlogs. I am so pleased NZ invited you on this inaugural service. I really appreciate your objective and informative approach. Well done
That was another great vlog Being born in New Zealand but residing overseas it made me feel proud but the homesick feeling really took over at the end of the video on touch down into Auckland also the Maori welcome put a golf ball size lump in my throat. I personally do not like the presant business class seats on Air New Zealand but the new cabin being introduced this year is a big thumbs up from me. Keep up with the great vlogs I enjoy every one
Business seats facing away from the windows with a tv on your side inducing eyestrain shortly after take-off - I'll fly Emirates premium economy of this thanks.
Fantastic Video Jonny. Rather you than me doing a 17hr flight and then returning to London via La 12 hrs later !😳 Can i say you are now my go to, for these sort of videos. They are highly informative, Interesting and NOT long winded! You are the Silver Fox Of The Sky ❤😉
Angled seats, no thanks, particularly angled away from the view!! What were they thinking? If you have issues with air sickness, those angled seats are going to cause issues
Very good trip report, I learned a lot about ANZ from this. My only critique (and do, please feel to ignore me) is I don't feel "selfie" shots are necessary, especially when you're eating dinner. The dinner presented on the plate looks delicious! The food on your fork going into your mouth..........not so much. It's not just you, it seems just about most of the travel reports I see here on RUclips tend to include more-than-necessary shots of the author (comments below about Sam Chui are pretty much spot on - it almost seems his mug is on the screen more than the airliner or whatever subject matter he's doing a video report on). Thanks for the report though!
An excellent report of a terrific flight. The food and service seemed remarkable. The layout of the business class seems different from most other 787s. This seems less private that other airlines’s versions. Did it seem that way to you?
@@thedesignairvideo Yes I would like to do it again. It was a great experience despite the late departure and the missing bags for couple of days. I enjoyed my time down there.
Thumbs-up have already subscribed to your awesome channel, love your flight review of our international carrier✈️., I prefer premium economy on this airline but mostly only fly economy. I don’t like the seating arrangement angle in their business class on that aircraft you were on!.
Love your trip report and looks like a great flight! I hope you don't mind my unsolicited feedback but I found that the music in this video was much louder than your narration... if there's any way you can even that out in future videos that would be awesome.
Really impressive report, and I watch a lot of these. You are so eloquent, especially compared to your friend (sorry!) Sam. I can’t watch him, as he’s the opposite of eloquent (I don’t want to be rude). I’m very lucky, as I’ve done an enormous amount of ultra long distance flying, mostly in business. You really provide a good overview for those that haven’t. Keep it up! New sub.
@@thedesignairvideo I’m sure I don’t need to tell you it takes time, and then there’s a big subscriber bump. Jeb Brookes got his a while ago, doubling and then tripling (and more) in a relatively short period. Dennis Bunnik hasn’t got his bump yet. Some of the others are inexplicable to me, and I can’t fathom why they’re so popular. Keep it up, you’ll get there!
In general, nice & useful review (loud music already been pointed out in the comments). For instance, you being able to film the premium economy section was a great addition & very helpful to my travel plans for Australia/New Zealand in 2025. The premium econ seats look to be the same as domestic "first class" seats with US carriers that I've spent a good number of hours in this year alone. It might save me a bunch of money to do those seats instead of those odd biz seats, but NZ isn't serving the Middle Eastern market right now. Hope they do one day soon. One critique, I've unsubcribed from several flight reviewer channels (Sam Chui, NonStop Dan, SAN Spotter, Jeb Brooks, Vicarious Voyager for example) because they give themselves way too much face time on the screen. The shots you included of you eating and /or looking out the window didn't add anything. Notice how there are already a couple of replies in the comment section hinting at not wanting to have a strangers face all up in your face?
The hand controllers isn't really used as the entertainment system is a touch screen. That's the reason it's so basic. I love the food and service on Air NZ in Business Premier. I also have no problem with the head phones as they are fine and offer good noise cancellation. The cheese board for desert is always good. The bedding is awesome. Very easy to sleep on Air NZ in business class. That toastie wasn't quite the Katz Deli, but still looks great. Breakfast of champions!! It's disappointing that the crew didn't really explain some of the unique aspects of the seat design, such as being able to stay fully reclined during take off and landing. Sam also missed that aspect in his flight review. It's one of the best and most unique parts of Air NZ Business Premier and makes the privacy much better. It's one of the main reason I love the existing seats, in addition to the quality sleep. I hope they keep the recline during take off and landing feature in the new seat design.
I applaud Air New Zealand for thinking outside of the box on designing their business class cabin. However, it's not to my liking, it has a very awkward, cramped appearance. The premium economy offering with 40" pitch and 2-3-2 seating is very good! The JFK terminal looks very dated. Its good of Air New Zealand to block out some of the economy seats as well. Overall it seems like a great product, I just wouldn't put the money out for business class due to the awkwardness of the cabin.
When we hit 2024, the new seats should completely change this business class proposition, maybe hold fire a little bit to see what the new seats are like!
I've flown 2.5M KM mostly in business and first class and I love using the Air NZ Business product. It's not cramped at all when you're in there, compared to say Emirates. The sleep is amazing and the seat can be fully reclined during take off and landing, which you can't do on most other airlines. When reclined there is more privacy than say Singapore Airlines or Emirates Business Class products. Being able to exit the seat even when the tray table is being used is excellent, as is the positioning of the entertainment system. If you fly in business class a lot there is a lot to like about the existing Air NZ product. It's especially good on the long overnight flights.
Really good video. Everything looked really impressive with the exception 9f the seat layout. I hate the fact that business class seats face away from the windows. Makes no sense. Your commentary is much appreciated.
I understand your comment, it's a product that's now two decades old. When it first came out it was a real game changer and a pretty competitive product. It's amazing how advances have completely changed the business class market!
The WORST business seat in the air. Not only socially awkward when you just want privacy, but also terrible when you might want to sit up and down several times overnight and dont want to have to get the crew to do that for you, potentially upsetting other passengers.
Actually, it's pretty good for sleeping. These seats still score highly for sleep quality. But yeah, what they are being replaced with are far superior!
This business class config is horrible. I flew SYD - AKL earlier last month. The food is definitely alot better than the Air Canada flights I've been on.
Excellent review format. The sooner the new J class seats come, the better. Three hours Trans-Tasman of staring at a passenger opposite wearing shorts and in bare feet was hardly a premier experience. No decorum whatsoever.
These seats for the price are the worst seats ever !!! I'm tall and feel like the seats are only designed for people much much smaller - anyone bigger, you're in for a real bad & uncomfortable experience and if you're even slightly over weight, watch out as you will undoubtedly feel the squeeze . And believe me, the toilets are just as bad - so small . "All" the seats are facing away from the windows - so you cannot see out !!! also you cannot sit next to you partner or wife or husband, in fact with the noise of the aircraft you'll struggle to talk to them. I genuinely do not recommend this seating or toilet option - certainly not worth the money. Staff and food was good, everything else a total failure !!!
This trip report was absolutely fantastic
Thanks so much!

Sam Chui’s reviews are overrated.

that's a terrible seat/cabin layout: facing other people would seem a bit weird but the worst - CAN'T SPEND TIME LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW! #seriously One of the joys of travel is watching the tiny world go by. What were they thinking?!
Remember this was revolutionary when it was first made, and the first all-aisle-access product at the time. Since then lessons have been learned. 😜
Yes, the seats seem awkwardly facing inward towards other passengers.
There is nothing much to see out the window on a night flight and the sleep is way better than other products, as is the ability to be able to recline fully during take off and landing, and get out of the seat even when the tray table is being used. I really dislike the design of the business class steals not facing the window. It just looks like a tin of sardines waiting to be opened

It’s a little bit less private, but the new seats in 2024 will solve that problem and actually if you pick row A it does feel quite private
Nice video. Great capture of the business class. I was also on this flight and did a trip report on the economy class on my channel.

I'll never understand the facing away from windows and feet all going toward the aisles!
Why fly straight back after only 12 hours in NZ after having come all the way from the UK?
Air NZ now weighing passengers, as the 787 struggles to cover the distance. Makes a case for the A350.
Thanks, I really enjoyed this video. even Virgin Atlantic. love your reporting.

The Business Class seat configuration has to be the worst in the sky.
There so called Business Class should be called Business in a Box Class
Not a fan of this business class layout where passengers are side-by-side. Too close for comfort and you can see the top of each other’s heads!
Yeah, all well and good. Doing it in economy is where people get my respect.
Mucho mejor que el fanfarrón de Sam Chui.. Jaja
Muchos gracias!
Will be very happy once these seats are ditched. They’re absolutely awful!
They have a love / hate relationship with many. That said, i've never had a bad night's sleep on these seats.
Done this flight but service and food not a good in 2024.....
Superfood salad. Aye right on mate. Wee bitty pretentiousness kicking in
Again!! Too bad about the hideous biz seats. Until they are changed I will not travel with Air NZ.

And since when did NZ become some Maori name? Political correctness gone totally mad.
