That's right. The mono USB-C connector is a shame. Apple is going downhill with this restriction for the usability of their notebook. I am not giving all this money to Apple to get a notebook with just one external connector. The whole idea of minimalist design has now degenerated into poorness of equipment. Johhnny Ivy has gone mad since the minimalist iOS for the iPhone, and now is even more mad by selling you an underdeveloped notebook. The whole minimalist idea of Steve Jobs was only about the MacBookAir, but after his death it looks like nobody else can understand the logic of his idea. Keep your old devices form Steve Jobs era. Or switch to WIndows. There is no other soultution.

Because it defies their agenda: they want to usher in the USB-C as fast as possible and be the leaders of that movement (and so far, given their sales, it looks like it's working). If people had to choose between a MacBook Air (MagSafe + regular USB-A + SD Card slot still there) with a retina display and between a MacBook or MacBook Pro with Retina display but with the USB-C only ports they currently are stuck with, much fewer people would buy the USB-C oriented products (2017 MacBook & MacBook Pro) and will stick with the 2017 MacBook Air (that they all already know and love and with the more convenient 3.0 USB-A ports that almost everything still uses, and the famous MagSafe charging) with the Retina display. If that happens, it'll be a while before the market adopts USB-C and that's not what Apple wants. They're intelligent and know exactly what they are doing.

Just watched "one month with one hole" and the last thing you mentioned was wait for the 2016 model. The next video pops up for the 2016 model with the title "Get the Old One"! CLASSIC!!!! I have to hand it to Apple they have people mesmerized into paying $1300 for an $800 laptop!
In all fairness to Apple and literally every other PC maker these laptop\ultrabooks are the future. No moving parts! Incredibly thin and silent designs, low heat generation, ridiculous battery life and removing the bezels to fit a 13.3 into an 11.6 footprint. The technology is absolutely impressive with Core M, but the performance of the chips should reflect in the price. Unfortunately the arrogance of Apple and the firm grip they have on their tribe really alienate anybody from buying who wasn't already in an Apple trance! It's almost a rebirth of sorts that will see laptops going back to when they were a little bit less capable and saving the processor intensive work for the desktops.(4K editing etc..). But what we will get in the long run is a revolutionary rethink of the ultrabook and the Core M architecture is only getting better. Just dont overpay in the meantime!

Don't get why everyone is hating on the keyboard all the time. One of the best I've typed on. Nice clicky feedback sound from the keys. It's taken about five minutes adjustment for me.

+Dave Lee And you can get a 1.3GHZ model from last year, which is a much faster processor for cheaper than what this year's base model is. ;) That's what I did. Definitely check out the refurbished section if you're interested in this machine.

Hey great vid! Just curious....do you think getting a 2017 MacBook 12" model in 2024 is a good purchase if all I plan to do is write school essays, reports, short stories and answer emails, browse the web, nothing major. Portability and light weight for me are key, plus small form factor.
I like the design of the MacBook, It's small portable and thin, and lightweight. While I don't own one personally, they do look like a good buy for someone who needs a portable computer for every day use. Me personally though, I will stick with the Pro, because I need the extra ports, because I use it as a desktop at home. I like the rose gold color as well, and think it's a nice soft color . When I got my ipad air 2, I chose gold. I'm probably someone who wouldn't be embarrassed to get rose gold, as I like flowers and all colors of roses are nice. Anway like the video, great job :)

Now , I had the macbook pro retina with the force touch track pad.I loved it don't get me wrong. I just didn't like the fact that it was soon large. I carry and walk around new york city a lot and for work so carrying more then 6 pounds on my shoulders is a little much. I also ordered the qac qoc usb c hub so I will be trying that tomorrow. also great video as always .
Would you mind giving us the gaming benchmarks more accurately? I mean, based in identical settings for quality and resolution in the games you mentioned (CS GO, Heroes of the Storm and Dota 2), what was the average FPS difference? Thank you so much
+Rubens Martins both of them bumped up by around 10-12 FPS? it's a noticeable increase in light-weight gaming performance but it's still not great. This is at lowest rez/lowest graphics settings.

I agree with you about the new color. I thought I would've loved the rose gold since I think it looks great on the phones. But when I saw the macbook in person I really didn't like it. Because its much larger it seems pinker which makes it look cheap in my opinion, its not as "gold-like" like the phones.
The main issue for me remains the single usb port. For all the obvious reasons plus, what happens with the increased tear due to it being the only one being used all the time (plug in out). What happens if it breaks? You can't even charge it to backup files before you send it for repairs.

Macbook Pro 13" is a proper computer ... this thing well it looks like a computer, it runs OSX... but when you do any creative stuff such as art, movie editing, 3D modelling/manipulations, intense quality photos shopping it fails and it sux... its just a fancy file manager and web browser with music and video playback and also can handle office document work... thats about it, a shit machine for artists.
nice review; for completeness, can you comment on performance on say rendering 1080p or 4K in iMovie or FinalCutPro? I see your point of using Premiere, but the comparisons I have seen Premiere vs Final Cut Pro on Apple are su mind blowing, I wonder if you could just switch to FinalCutPro to rank Apple computers.my MacBook 2016 specs out (m7, 1.3) is arriving on Tuesday; I gave up on the previous ones do the tradeoff of power/screen claustrophobia (that is, the power was not enough to compensate the small real estate). I have a laptop I bought from 2010 and it kicks the crap out of this Macbook. I've loaded MacOS X on it, and Logic Studio and they both work flawlessly. I'll never understand why people still go with Apple products other than a "status symbol" or they really don't know anything about computer hardware.
I still think not have a USB port is just dumb....whats the point of a laptop if its not fully functional and portable on its own? Why do i need peripherals just to connect a thumbdrive?
They've been doing that most of the time to be honest and considering they're removing a lot of stuff lately(hardware side) they have less stuff to update so they're always re-releasing the same, slightly different machine
I don't think you should go with he old one. I have the old one and I hit the wall pretty easily. 10 tabs, pages open, preview, things start stuttering. With a faster GPU and CPU, photoshop will run A LOT better(i know i shouldn't be but it works well on the go) and scrolling and stuff I assume would be better. I'd get the new one, with macs it's not worth saving 100-200$ on a computer you're keeping for YEARS. getting the best you can and keeping for a while is the way I've gone with macs. My 2014 MBP is phenomenal at this point.
I have a 15" macbook pro for heavy tasks, but I cannot carry it everywhere I go especially to school and a coffee shop. So, I decided to buy something very light and small yet powerful. I got a great deal for an 11" macbook air on Amazon and I got that. I think that has a much better value than this over priced piece. I have been using it for few days. It is a core i5 2015 model, and I am very impressed with its performance. If only it had a retina display.

The 12 inch Macbook got me through Nursing school. Really love how easily I could set up and start taking notes. Plenty of storage and speed for me.

Hey great vid! Just curious....do you think getting a 2017 MacBook 12" model in 2024 is a good purchase if all I plan to do is write school essays, reports, short stories and answer emails, browse the web, nothing major. Portability and light weight for me are key, plus small form factor.

I like the design of the MacBook, It's small portable and thin, and lightweight. While I don't own one personally, they do look like a good buy for someone who needs a portable computer for every day use. Me personally though, I will stick with the Pro, because I need the extra ports, because I use it as a desktop at home.
I like the rose gold color as well, and think it's a nice soft color . When I got my ipad air 2, I chose gold. I'm probably someone who wouldn't be embarrassed to get rose gold, as I like flowers and all colors of roses are nice. Anway like the video, great job :)

+Dave Lee . so I got the new macbook 12" in space grey. I'm actually a person that likes the light butterfly keys. It allows me to type a lot quicker. Also I can still edit youtube videos. Now , I had the macbook pro retina with the force touch track pad.I loved it don't get me wrong. I just didn't like the fact that it was soon large. I carry and walk around new york city a lot and for work so carrying more then 6 pounds on my shoulders is a little much. I also ordered the qac qoc usb c hub so I will be trying that tomorrow. also great video as always .
"get the old one" is the comment I've had on pretty much every piece of consumer hardware I've used since 2012-- especially Apple.

+Rubens Martins both of them bumped up by around 10-12 FPS? it's a noticeable increase in light-weight gaming performance but it's still not great. This is at lowest rez/lowest graphics settings.

Because if a game was running at 10 FPS, then another 10 FPS would mean 100% improvement, see.

I agree with you about the new color. I thought I would've loved the rose gold since I think it looks great on the phones. But when I saw the macbook in person I really didn't like it. Because its much larger it seems pinker which makes it look cheap in my opinion, its not as "gold-like" like the phones.
The main issue for me remains the single usb port. For all the obvious reasons plus, what happens with the increased tear due to it being the only one being used all the time (plug in out). What happens if it breaks? You can't even charge it to backup files before you send it for repairs.

4K @ 60Hz - Did you use the normal hdmi adapter to connect the display to get this resolution? is it only possible if the Macbook screen is switched off?

How does your alienware graphics amplifier have a USB-C?
Macbook Pro 13" is a proper computer ... this thing well it looks like a computer, it runs OSX... but when you do any creative stuff such as art, movie editing, 3D modelling/manipulations, intense quality photos shopping it fails and it sux... its just a fancy file manager and web browser with music and video playback and also can handle office document work... thats about it, a shit machine for artists.

nice review; for completeness, can you comment on performance on say rendering 1080p or 4K in iMovie or FinalCutPro? I see your point of using Premiere, but the comparisons I have seen Premiere vs Final Cut Pro on Apple are su mind blowing, I wonder if you could just switch to FinalCutPro to rank Apple computers.my MacBook 2016 specs out (m7, 1.3) is arriving on Tuesday; I gave up on the previous ones do the tradeoff of power/screen claustrophobia (that is, the power was not enough to compensate the small real estate). I am hoping the m7, will alleviate a bit of that.
Just took your advice and cancelled my M7 Macbook 2016 order and bought a refurbished 2015 entry level macbook for £750. Saved £500. Hope I've made the right decision.

I have a laptop I bought from 2010 and it kicks the crap out of this Macbook. I've loaded MacOS X on it, and Logic Studio and they both work flawlessly. I'll never understand why people still go with Apple products other than a "status symbol" or they really don't know anything about computer hardware.
If you are using OS X on a Windows laptop, you should understand why people are spending their money on Macbooks.
I still think not have a USB port is just dumb....whats the point of a laptop if its not fully functional and portable on its own? Why do i need peripherals just to connect a thumbdrive?
It HAS a USB port. This transition has to happen when new standarts emerge. There are plenty of USB type C drives out there now.

This should be the replacement for the Air 11", there's no sense removing this one, and having the MB12 much more pricy (with poor processor)
Now a days Apple only change one thing and try to sell instead of changing lot of things.
They've been doing that most of the time to be honest and considering they're removing a lot of stuff lately(hardware side) they have less stuff to update so they're always re-releasing the same, slightly different machine
I don't think you should go with he old one. I have the old one and I hit the wall pretty easily. 10 tabs, pages open, preview, things start stuttering. With a faster GPU and CPU, photoshop will run A LOT better(i know i shouldn't be but it works well on the go) and scrolling and stuff I assume would be better. I'd get the new one, with macs it's not worth saving 100-200$ on a computer you're keeping for YEARS. getting the best you can and keeping for a while is the way I've gone with macs. My 2014 MBP is phenomenal at this point.

I have a 15" macbook pro for heavy tasks, but I cannot carry it everywhere I go especially to school and a coffee shop. So, I decided to buy something very light and small yet powerful. I got a great deal for an 11" macbook air on Amazon and I got that. I think that has a much better value than this over priced piece. I have been using it for few days. It is a core i5 2015 model, and I am very impressed with its performance. If only it had a retina display.
