When you identify as a fat person. It changes the narrative which is terrifying. If you have e never been thin and used good as a friend. You don't have the tools to deal with what cones next.
😢 My 52 year old sister-in-law suddenly died of 100% occluded carotid artery. She had bariatric surgery in 2012, was thin before she died, so it worked for weight loss. She didn’t change her eating habits. She just ate smaller amounts of heavily processed foods, drank more alcohol & never exercised. What’s the point of losing weight if you don’t change your lifestyle?
@@heatheraustin1757 Hi! Yes! She had 3 total because her job required them. She had an autopsy- it was from 100% blockage. She never exercised & always ate deep fat fried foods, fast food, processed food, drank soda, & alcohol & didn’t change her habits post weight loss surgery. (Just less amounts) But we ALL asked each other the vaxx question & my husband’s a Nurse Practitioner. We’ll never know for sure.
After going off of Ozempic of only two month due to heart palpitations and being sooooo tired - I could not get full for TWO MONTHS. I was ravenous for 60 days and could not satiate my hunger! Thank goodness my hunger queues are back in check and I am addressing my relationship with food.
This is one of my favorite interviews. Love how intelligent the conversation was and how Johann was able to provide so many different examples and people he spoke. Big fan ❤
Years of following Jay on all social media platforms, years of absorbing and integrating what Jay puts out and yet every new piece of content he uploads amazes me at how insightful, introspective, directly relatable, educational, fun and transformative it is. Loved this episode! ❤
I just started taking my first dose of ozempic yesterday (.25mg), the lack of hunger has already started. It is very strange to not wanting to pig out and crave healthy children broth (home made) one cup of that and i am satisfied. I am type 2 diabetic, using a ton of insulin… cant wait to see what positive changes my body is able to reach. ❤
I feel like it should only be prescribed to people who genuinely need it. My dad could barely move and was not able to lose weight at all for the past 20 years, but it has helped him so much in the past 4 months. He's like his old self again💛
@@PennyWaylishen, exactly. By THEIR LOGIC, wait until you are deep into diabetics before you take it. I'm type two diabetic because I Couldn't lose a pound even after changing my lifestyle and working out every day. But I started losing weight the first week my endocrinologist put me on Mounjaro. These medications should be accessible to both diabetic and obese individuals. Most of us are not lazy, we have metabolic issues that made us not lose weight before this medication. I’m grateful I’m on it and ain’t no stopping now. I've lost 27 lbs since August 13th 2024!
I am so happy to have found this!! I am taking a compounded medication of this right now and the benefits for me are worth the risk but it's so important to be educated.
I am guilty of thinking the person taking this weight loss drug was cheating because I worked out consistently to maintain and lose weight and my gf loss a tremendous amount of weight effortlessly with Ozempic. I no longer feel that way now hearing this.
This episode was incredible! I’m a pediatrician with a nutrition focus, and the decision of whether or not to prescribe these medications to young people is incredibly difficult. I have to weigh the long-term risks of obesity with the unknown long-term risks of obesity medications. Will I be helping them in the long run or will I be violating my oath to “Do No Harm?” This conversation offered many points to consider. I immediately bought the book and look forward to reading it. Thank you!
I am going to address you asking you to please be careful with your recommendations being sure to identify the reason for obesity. I have gone through several PCPs in the last two years because they keep recommending Ozempic to me. They don't even seem to understand that it wouldn't be useful for me. I have always struggled with my weight but I am not an overeater. Additionally my labs are great. Blood glucose is fine. Cholesterol is in the 140s. Thyroid seems to be working. My metabolism is broken. I exercise for an hour daily 5-6 days a week. My breakfast is a very healthy smoothie with fruit and protein powder (just pea powder no food additives) and I snack on fresh vegetables and eat a reasonable dinner. I still weigh well over 200 pounds. I was taking in less than 800 calories daily because I was so afraid to eat for fear of gaining weight, but I wasn't meeting my nutrition needs so I shoot for 1500 now.
@@domesticmedicine Thank you for sharing your story. At this time, I am not prescribing obesity medications at all. My focus is on lifestyle medicine and I emphasize a weight-neutral approach. I will continue with that emphasis, but I have already been approached by teens and their families about prescribing it. For now, I am just referring them to an obesity medicine specialist. The causes of obesity and related chronic diseases are complex though and it is well documented that, in the current culture of the US, it is nigh-on impossible to follow a healthy diet, especially for children. The points made by Mr. Hari were thought provoking. Which is worse: the known effects of long-term obesity or the unknown long-term effects of the medications. Am I harming my patients more by not offering to prescribe them? So much to consider!
@@apblackmd . I work in an adjacent field to healthcare (medical anthro) I understand about food deserts and lack of accessibility to fresh healthy food. You can't really prescribe to those folks affected by those problems. It's a conundrum that I think will have to be fought in the arena of public health.
I'm ketovore/carnivore. Reversed my T2D, my HBP, gum disease, inflammation and many other issues. I have satiety, food freedom, and am not losing muscle nor nutrient deficient. I support those taking Ozempic as a stop gap if needed to assist with weight loss and to hopefully regain control of diabetes, etc. but think it is not a good idea for long-term use.
I am 60 days on carnivore. It has completely reset my relationship with food. Why? Because I have satiety. I eat when I am hungry. When I am not hungry I do not have cravings to snack because of that - If I have that thought that I do want to eat (habit takes time to break) then ai have water which I would have never done prior to this. I have lost 17 lbs - which is a healthy weight loss amount for that time. I don’t have joint pain and have consistent energy. I would have considered using these drugs but right now I feel like staying on this plan instead. I am old enough to have lived through all the prior weight loss drugs that were pulled so have a little skepticism. Glad it is there and hope it works for those that choose it.
In my opinion I would not take it. I too am carnivore and loosing weight and gaining muscle. I have been working out 5 times a week. The fact that people gain weight after they stop taking the med is concerning. As well as the fact we don’t know the long term effect. I’d say you’re much better off staying carnivore. Imho
I went carnivore after being keto. My blood sugar rose from 5.4 to 5.6. I gained weight and never felt satisfied. I was working out consitently, the program did not do for me what others claimed.
Lovely judgement in your words. What if all that you say is present and in place, and STILL the degree of hunger varies from person to person. Different guts and different brains. Implied judgement helps no one while a wide open mind is always helpful.
I would be VERY curious as to the long term ability of your body's natural production of GLP1. "Normally" as with other hormonal supplementation, our bodies recognize elevated levels of the hormones and over time, naturally "decrease" it's own production. My suspicion is that taking a synthetic GLP1 would react in the body in the same way, possibly creating a lifelong dependency of the medication.
@hihikats yes I think you're right. They are saying that is one of the reasons you have to keep taking these because you will no longer produce glp1 on you own. Lessens longer you take it. I can't remember where I read the study and it's been the last few days. It has just recently come out.
Semaglutide is a peptide or piece of a protein that is identical to our natural glp-1 peptide except one tiny extra tweak that keeps it active for longer than our natural glp. Not really artificial per se. The doses the drug company (who dictates to the doctor) recommends are very high and escalate very fast to the most the body can possibly handle then doctors are told to keep it at max indefinitely. It’s a profit driven motive. It’s kind of how OxyContin drove the opiate crisis. The dose makes the poison. I believe the negatives around this are dose related and some doctors who use it differently than the drug company recommends are not seeing the side effects and rebound hunger/weight gain after weaning off slower, not just quitting cold turkey. Perhaps it’s just being dosed wrong because the studies were only done by the drug manufacturer that profits from those dose levels.
I rarely comment on videos. However, i laughed hysterically with the brittish accent part of the conversation & then listened attentively to all the rest. Bravo! You both kept my full attention through & through. Thats a rarity. Very good talk. :)
My adult daughter took Wecovy and started having stomach issues and stopped. It got worse, and she was in and out of hospital. They said it was a side effect and would go away soon. It continued for months until she had emergency surgery. Her intestines were blocked, and then they found Lymphoma. The surgeon cut out the tumor that was blocking, and her intestines kept dying, she had 4 more surgeries and had to get an ileostomy bag so she would be able to get her chemo. She was in the hospital and in horrible pain for months. Her body couldn't absorb nutrition. It has been 10 months, and they reversed the bag 6 weeks ago. She is slowly recovering but struggles to put on weight. I'm unsure if it was caused by the Wecovy or the inability for the team to look past this as a side effect. We didn't know if she was going to survive. I am still worried.
I teach in Japan. I’ve taught a few overweight kids and adults, and I’m seeing more overweight adults on the trains now. KFC is so popular here, it’s considered their “traditional” Christmas dinner. McDonald’s is also pretty popular. Even Okinawa is getting bad now. American culture and the dairy industry has totally infiltrated Japan. For insurance purposes, we have to get comprehensive health checks once a year. That keeps diseases in check. Our results aren’t shared with the company though.
I loved the insight and the honesty. It makes one think, here we have a pill to solve the addiction of food that was created by industry. Someone has to risk their life to solve their addiction that wasn't their fault to begin with. When we know better it is too late we have to fight the good fight on our own, be told we are at fault, and be shamed. The proof is in the elementary school of Japan. They are set up for success, we sadly are set up for abuse. Then, we risk our own lives either by being unhealthy or taking a pill to get our brain to stop wanting to eat the bad stuff. It is a long journey for those of us who are fighting the good fight without the drug, and realize it is up to us to educate and exercise our bodies to want the good stuff. it's sad but true.
I am diabetic and taking ozempic. I also have multiple questions and saw Dr. McDougall and his vegetarian diet. I want to heal from my disease and will do so while eating that way.
I think this is the main problem with these drugs. People overtake them to become stick thin. It makes everyone else who are normal weight feel like they have to be the same. We have lost any and all body positivity. Good interview.
I wonder what you consider a normal weight? I find that people today are so used to seeing very overweight people that they think it is a normal, healthy weight
My daughter does Ozempic and ADD medication and she doesn't have these problems One thing I have noticed after combining these meds, my daughter is so moody and always wants to fight
Many abdominal cancers also make you not hungry or give a feeling of fulness. Especially Pancreatic, liver, gall bladder, stomach cancers. Thereby curbing the appetite. This drug , may cause cancer tumors. Are there studies on this?
Wow… great! Do you still get to exercise daily even on Mounjaro? That was the reason I quit Ozempic. Couldn’t go to the gym: was always tired, felt weak, sleepy, lazy, felt sick all the time (nausea)…
@@pattyverde47 I go to the gym 3 times a week (mostly weights) all very low level. I’m trying to maintain/ slowly build muscle from a starting point of zero! I chose Mounjaro over Ozempic as it has fewer side effects. I felt nauseous & was constipated the first couple of weeks of use but nothing since then. I am slightly fatigued but the gym helps with that (I’m on 5mg & won’t go any higher). I’ve lost 30lbs in 4 months which for me is a miracle. I wish you the very best with your progress ❤️
If on this drug you eat so much less, it’s so important that each mouthful of food is the best nutritionally so that you don’t end up with nutritional deficiencies of all the vitamins and minerals. Also when you have reached your desired weight and you come off the drug you have the help and support to get used to eating normal amounts of food again not excessive eating or junk food etc. because you could be back where you started very quickly.
The problem of someone with a food addiction getting on these drugs is that when one addiction goes away a new one will pop up in its place if it isn’t treated. That is why so many weightloss surgeries become alcoholics.
What a great interview! Johann is absolutely delightful, charming, brilliant, empathetic and really thoughtfully tackles these issues! I absolutely love this guy and thoroughly enjoyed this and learned a lot!
On the observation about people in the 1970's not being obese...Many of them were smoking. A lot! Smoking increases the metabolism. My parents were quite slim then as were my grandparents. All of them have had to deal with issues from decades of smoking.
I understand where Hari is coming from because I understand that the obesity epidemic is largely the result of the SAD, but I urge you all to be a little more measured in your approach to obesity. Overeating is not always the reason for obesity. I lead a support group for people who suffered severe nutritional deficits on Ozempic because they really weren't overeating to begin with. (Full disclosure I haven't taken it, it is part of my job.) For the most part, it seems physicians either don't understand how the drug works or just see fat and immediately assume it's lifestyle. There are people who who don't overeat or have a great deal of processed food and sugars in their diet, who are still overweight. Some of these people just need to get up and move. Some people like myself exercise intensely, (60 minute sessions 5-6 days a week and a bedtime stretching routine) limit calories (1500 daily) and still don't lose much weight. My concern about Ozempic is that physicians who don't like to take the time to listen to people about their health in the first place seem to be throwing it at everyone indiscriminately.
You are actually more likely to lose muscle before you lose fat. The body is predisposed to utilize for carbs (glucose) as energy before it goes for fat. We store glucose in our muscles. Adipose tissue (fat) is a back up storage system.
@@domesticmedicineHmmm...if you lose weight by exercising, eating low carb high protein, etc I think you are less likely to lose a lot of lean mass. If you do ozempic I'd bet that people (not all) are still eating the same way that got them fat...garbage food...and not improving themselves physically so it would make sense more lean mass is being lost because they aren't doing anything to preserve it.
Yep over 20% that’s why they’re is something called ozempic butt, it targets fat and muscle. If you don’t make lifestyle and diet changes you’ll end up skinny fat. You will lose muscle which in fact makes your body older.
@@x.y.7385 re Ozempic... that's the experience I have had working with people who took it. Their doctors kind of "market" it at them as the alternative to having to make the lifestyle changes so it goes poorly for them. To be fair, many of them feel too sick and down when they are taking the drug to be motivated to do much exercise or anything like that. When you are attempting to lose weight the old-fashioned way, via lifestyle changes, the exercise will help you to build muscle while you are losing weight. HIIT is best for people who want to lose but I still believe in cardio.
i took ozempic weekly for 4 months to lose weight, but my doctor taught me nothing about healthy habits. When i stopped, i gained 60 pounds in a span of 3 months. i lost only 8 pounds while on ozempic and the bounce effect ruined my confidence, my resistance, my metabolism and my health overall.
Lots to think about for sure. But for people that choose to explore taking the drug…You don’t have a Dr who will prescribe it, if you do your insurance won’t pay for it, you can’t afford to pay out of pocket. I have read that more lower income families suffer from obesity. If this is true then is this a drug that will only be available to the wealthy?
Why people not just not do fasting? Watch video Jason Fang about fasting. It is blowing the mind. It is incredible and also natural way to keep holding your body in best fit.
I agree with many of the sentiments, but self control and discipline does play a good part of it. Our food system doesn't help at all and is atrocious, but we can't dismiss personal choices. 19:13
Your guest is amazing and brilliant! I loved listening to him talk and share. I’m buying his book. Also , I’m a new subscriber! Thank you from San Diego 🫶🏼
Before I even begin watching this video? FOOD is a passion for some of us and a great "comfort" as opposed to more harmful vices such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or gambling (just to name a few). If all Ozempic does is cause the "satiating qualities" of consuming vast quantities of food "go away" then I'm not even sure I would want to use this pharmaceutical product. What is replacing the "comfort" found in food? Users of Ozempic seem to neglect to give a voice to what they are replacing that midnight run of copious amounts of Taco Bell dollar-menu items with!
When I think of Ozempic, I think of the scene in The Hunger Games, where Katniss and Peeta go to the Capitol for the Presidents party and everyone is filling themselves to capacity. They drink something to "make themselves sick", so that they can eat more. I know that there are people who are helped enormously by the product but it can become a problem when people abuse the solution. How is it helpful, if it's not used as part of a lifestyle change program. One that helps the user understand how to keep the weight off. 99 percent of the people, that I personally know, who take these drugs are not changing their eating habits, nor trying to figure out how to maintain the weight loss after they get to their desired weight.
The thing that gets me worried was my 72 year old father got prescribed for this med in pill form. Some of these doctors are prescribing this medication without too much thoughts into it and it’s dangerous! My father has heart issue and kidney issues as well. This doctor saw him twice.
👏Love this conversation. I lost 50lb,at 53 yrs and gained muscle. Now with a more flexible metabolism I can eat more and use calories better. I have been on a GLP-1 for almost 2 years and before that I tried everything which included diet nutrition calorie restriction, always worked out my entire life, was always an athlete competed in gymnastics as a child and again as an adult, and still struggled with my weight my entire adult life. I have always struggled with appetite and satiety signals. It wasn’t until, my doctor convinced me to go on a GLP-1 that I was finally able to feel in control and my body, losing the excess body fat and make muscle & strength gains. I am sharing my story on my RUclips channel so that other people know they can get healthy and feel empowered and it does t have to be torture. You still need to do everything else in youer toolbox, which includes lifting weights, some cardio, sleep, stress management, get sun exposure and of course eating mostly whole food high protein diet❤Stay Strong💪
I didn’t even weigh myself this week. I don’t wanna see what the skills gonna say because I know I wasn’t that. Great I’ve been doing any exercise at all. But I do some with acid reflux, but that is due to the gastric lap still have my stomach that cannot be removed. The Kiala Greens is great! Especially the watermelon slush. It comes in many flavors now and I did get mine off of TikTok. Make sure you get the discount. Also, yes, I have been very tired lately sometimes feel like I’ve been drugged. Your daughter is too cute! By the way, I live in Brooklyn, we are like sister cousins I should say Auntie cousins since I’m older lol.
I don't know how anyone can stay on Ozempic. Its overrated and think there's a lot REAL everyday people aren't telling you. I tried it for 3 months and I hated it. Its awful. Mind you I only needed to lose 50 lbs, I'm not severely obese. Well, Ozempic DOES effect your brain. I don’t suffer from depression but felt sad & depressed on it. I had no gastrointestinal issues on it. No diarrhea or cramps but I did feel nauseated most days. I felt absolutely no appetite suppression at .25 or .50mg, just felt a lot of malaise. Achy, sad, my body hurt..but once I got to the 1.0 mg dose the extreme fatigue was incredible. I couldn't function, was so tired! The fatigue felt like a train hit me. I kept thinking it would go away, the symptoms but they never did. After 3 months and having lost 12 lbs I stopped taking Ozempic. 12 lbs wasn't worth feeling like garbage. It literally felt like I had a flu that never went away. I stopped taking Ozempic, it started clearing from my body and 3 wks later all my symptoms disappeared. I feel normal again. No sadness, my body doesn't hurt anymore, energy level back to normal. That drug isn't worth it to me.
I am super sensitive to meds and I feel for you and not surprised. Some medications can be life saving but it seems the majority are over prescribed, problematic, create more issues and if the patient can’t figure out it’s from a medication, they are prescribed yet another one to deal with the symptoms of another. This drug will be like most things. It’s so great at first and then despite some speaking against it some will take it too long and suffer health issues for it.
Same! I have never been that tired in my entire lifetime! I’m quite overweight and my body has NEVER ached until going on Ozempic, my body ached so bad I was convinced I had arthritis.
I tried Ozempic and gained weight and have been gaining steady since i quit too. I asked my Dr to see a nutritionist and she is obese so how is she going to teach me. I know what healthy eating is but since i quit smoking 10 yrs ago, I have had an eating disorder. Phentermine worked well but Dr wont let me use it for more than 2 months.
I have just been to a super conference with a bunch of doctors all talking about keto and low carb, very disturbing effects of this drug indeed. Amazing talk about it specifically by Dr Ben Bikman. I would not go near it with a barge pole. One of the main effects of going low carb/keto etc is the hunger goes away within a few days as you get to eat your fats for fuel... It is that freedom too... With no side effects... Except massively improved metabolic health x
I’ve seen this comment made on a number of platforms. I suspect the people who are using this drug have also tried keto-low carb diets with little to no success. For the people who truly struggle with food addiction, like me, we have tried everything. This is a last ditch effort. I’m not talking about the 50 year old woman who wants to lose 20 pounds in a few months before her high-school reunion. I’m talking about food addiction-think alcoholism and drug addiction and substitute the substance. It’s a brutal illness and does not discriminate. It affects many people, sadly.
@@emilyteige4123 I wouldn’t know, I just know it works amazingly for many, and I just went to a conference and ozempic was given a twenty minute talk by Ben Bikman who is amazingly learned. It is a disaster zone.
@@emilyteige4123 sorry I missed the end of your comment. Addiction is an awful part for many trying to change. Carb addiction is really tricky. De Jen Unwin and also Bitten Jonson are amazing around this subject x
If I have dinner at 6 pm, I never wake up hungry at 8 am and I don't start eating before 10 am When I have a late dinner, I feel hungry at 6 am. Treat your body well. These are luxury problems
Thanks Jay for this important topic of using this weight loss pill. There is no long term research available on Ozempic, sadly many people will have some serious health problems in the future with their health from this drug. Always love your podcasts 😍❤
Why do people attack fat people - as a former fat person who asked those people after losing weight and actually becoming friends with the people that berated me at first. It's because they saw potential in me that I wasted. One even said: It felt like you walked around with a winning lottery ticket, nice face, good jaw line, tall, but you refused to turn it in and every day the deadline drew closer and you continue to waste your youth on food, it frustrated him. He asked me: what were you doing? For women the same. Your best years you waste eating, as someone who knows, trust me - it is really like that. I wasted half of my youth with being fat and playing video games. I never would have known what I missed if my friend didn't intervene.
@@JennHayden Did he judge my morality because someone I was friends with? That would be abhorrent. I would never be friends with people like that, that's a bad personality trait to have. Just imagine he would tell that to strangers online he doesn't even know, disgusting.
Great interview: very informative and authentic. Side comment: I kept being distracted by how uncomfortably they‘re sitting trying not to stretch their legs too much. Maybe put the seats further away next time? 😂
I kind of thought of this… regarding me, at first. I’m overweight. About 40lb.. for the last 4ish years. But I’ve been able to lose weight.. and kind of go up and down. I haven’t been sure.. and have thought I’d try natural first. But, I have a loved one who is very overweight. I have a silent worry that she will leave us early because of her weight. And the feeling… devastates me. If she were to go on ozempoc or do gastric bypass and she felt that was rignt for her… and her doctor did, too… I would support her a million percent. On another note… I was born in 1986 and my mom was overweight my whole life, as were a lot of my friends’ parents. I know the stars have changed. But…. At least in the 80s and 90s, adults being overweight was normal in my life.
I’m on it and not through a doctor for the doctor wouldn’t give it to me, but I found it Going through menopause, I can’t get rid of it no matter how I eat so this is got rid of it I paid $250 a bottle cash

Sorry, type 2 diabetics have too much insulin, with insulin resistance, and then are prescribed more insulin. This conversation worries me a lot. I truly hope people find the doctors who are in the low carb space who are helping their patients reverse type 2 diabetes and obesity via how they are eating, Dr Jason Fung, Dr David Unwin, there are so many, they get no financial gain from it, but such love.
Thank you for this interview. It occured to me when you were discussing eating the whole bucket of chicken and other eating habits, that the seats you are on look like giant pumpkins!
This was a great conversation. CLEARLY, Obesity brings with it over 200 diseases and/or co-morbidities. These drugs have been around for 18 years, and I believe the risks associated with being Obese far exceed the risks of the drugs. Most of the risks associated with the semaglutide and tirzepatide are in the 1% chance. I know people on the drug, and most are no longer diabetic, no longer on blood pressure meds, or have reversed a PCOS diagnosis. Thank you Johan & Jay!
@charlotte1366 with ALL due respect, please don't be ignorant and disrespectful. You clearly didn't LISTEN. Obesity is a disease physiologically/biologically. Key hormones in the brain may lead some obese people to receive cues that they are hungry...these hormones impact how full a person is (satiety). And there are others who have metabolic disorders that stop them from losing weight. FULL STOP.
Tremendously valuable insight into this very Questionable drug. I’m sorry they didn’t touch on the cost. I’ve been told it cost nearly $1500 per month. Life in America…
I’m dosing down off of a Semaglutide peptide. I’ve lost 47 pounds while working out 2-4x a week. My local doctors office was $190-230/mo depending on your dose. The name brands are expensive, but the “knock off” has worked wonderfully for me.
The food industry will soon find a way to override any good that ozempic has done. It is all about profit for the food industry. If people are eating less then that means less profit for the food industry, they will soon find another chemical to make you always hungry.
Thank you both. The layers of depth to this problem can be overwhelming - I appreciate the work and clarity the two of you brought to us in this interview. I'll be getting the book.
It’s so crazy that the only side effect I have from taking ozempic is heartburn. I changed to mounjaro and same with the bad heartburn. Ozempic didn’t work for me at all. Everyone says they get sick, feeling full faster and not thinking about food. I don’t have any of these side effects with taking either. I’m losing weight but it’s coming off at a snails pace. I also walk 4 days a week at a high pace and do sit ups everyday. The only thing I can think of is that I’m perimenopausal.
Yeah it really doesn't work for people who don't overeat. So if you are at a stage in your life where your weight gain is due to hormonal changes, the exercise is probably doing more for you that the drug.
@@stephanyhoffelt7424 you are absolutely correct. I started losing weight once i started walking but before that nothing and it’s coming off at a snails pace.
This guy is so articulate and knowledgeable. Great interview
Ya but it's a cash grab for big pharma if everyone is taking it
These are the folks which really needs the additional glp1
Why should someone wait till they really need it! What if they can use it to prevent what is coming! Get your health under control before its a mess!
As a therapist, I was intrigued with the emotional effects of the pill! Great interview!
Its not a pill, it's an injection. Looks like, as a "therapist" you're not well informed.😂
@@aba1791it actually does exist in pill form … so
I am so happy to have found this!! I am taking a compounded medication of this right now and the benefits for me are worth the risk but it's so important to be educated.
Whenever I hear Jay's voice, I get sleepy, because he provides loads of meditation sessions on the Calm App!
AH,I THOUGHT SO! LOVE his voice and love his show even more!

@@domesticmedicine If you don't already do resistance exercise, you should do that too. It should improve metabolism
The power is being around others who eat natural foods and take responsibility for your diet
That is one way.
Lovely judgement in your words. What if all that you say is present and in place, and STILL the degree of hunger varies from person to person. Different guts and different brains. Implied judgement helps no one while a wide open mind is always helpful.
There it is: that Catholic judgement he talked about 🙄
You clearly didn't hear the study on the rats 🤦🏾♀️
One of the best interviews I’ve ever heard. Such helpful information - well rounded and hopefully deeply healing for many.
Yep my thoughts on this, like how steroids ruin mens testosterone
Like other hormones, it should be dosed lower, and cycled.
😂 me too. Such a good introduction
Truly hope for the best for her❤
I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope she gets well fast. I have seen this in wound care, increasing ostomies, and surgeries.
I’m so sorry that happened to her and your family. Thx for sharing.
Thank you for talking about such a complex and difficult subject with so much understanding and compassion Johann
Yeah, he made up the stuff about weight checks and having to wear a Fitbit so your steps are tracked.
Profound…🎯
I am diabetic and taking ozempic. I also have multiple questions and saw Dr. McDougall and his vegetarian diet. I want to heal from my disease and will do so while eating that way.
Thoroughly enjoyed this interview; very enlightening and informative. Also very candid and honest. 👌🏽
My daughter does Ozempic and ADD medication and she doesn't have these problems
One thing I have noticed after combining these meds, my daughter is so moody and always wants to fight
Many abdominal cancers also make you not hungry or give a feeling of fulness. Especially Pancreatic, liver, gall bladder, stomach cancers. Thereby curbing the appetite. This drug , may cause cancer tumors. Are there studies on this?
It’s a peptide, not a drug.
It’s been used for 20 years
Great to see this examined at such length & depth.
I’m on Mounjaro; it’s changed my life and it’s about to change the Western world.
Gambling is now my drug of choice, working in finding the root of the issue
What a wonderful conversation and Johann is so knowledgeable and fun to listen to. Thank you!
What a great interview! Johann is absolutely delightful, charming, brilliant, empathetic and really thoughtfully tackles these issues! I absolutely love this guy and thoroughly enjoyed this and learned a lot!
Great interview. Very informative and loved hearing the perspective. Looking forward to reading.
Thank you! I learnt something new about Japan today. Fit shaming is equally prevalent as much as fat shaming.
On the observation about people in the 1970's not being obese...Many of them were smoking. A lot! Smoking increases the metabolism. My parents were quite slim then as were my grandparents. All of them have had to deal with issues from decades of smoking.
Not all were smokers! Come on! Why u ignoring the fact that they barely had processed food cause wasn't widely available
@@samhart2677there were tons of processed foods in the 70’s. Google it.
Canadian here! I think your British accents sound so astute! ❤ Love both your work!
I’ve been told that the weight comes off in muscle as well as fat. I wish that had been discussed.
You are actually more likely to lose muscle before you lose fat. The body is predisposed to utilize for carbs (glucose) as energy before it goes for fat. We store glucose in our muscles. Adipose tissue (fat) is a back up storage system.
This is true. Peter Attia ran dexa scans on people taking this. You actually end up more fat (not weight)
What a great podcast!! I am on the magic pill and he is sooooooooooo right on. Such a smart man!! loved loved loved this
i took ozempic weekly for 4 months to lose weight, but my doctor taught me nothing about healthy habits. When i stopped, i gained 60 pounds in a span of 3 months. i lost only 8 pounds while on ozempic and the bounce effect ruined my confidence, my resistance, my metabolism and my health overall.
Have you considered the carnivore diet . It will change your life. Research it. Watch some videos on RUclips .
That's not how metabolism works.
@@Wesquire doesn’t change what happened.
@alolo1429 sure, but the reason it happened is not because ozempic tanked your metabolism. You just never learned how to eat at maintenance.
I totally agree but Some people struggle with "feeling hungry". These drugs stop people from feeling hungry.
Because it's hard to stop the food noise.
Fat is my armor protection from men being sexual predators.
U are not getting it! If people were able to they would have
it is like wondering why alcholoists cannot stop drinking… food is addiction for many
I agree with many of the sentiments, but self control and discipline does play a good part of it. Our food system doesn't help at all and is atrocious, but we can't dismiss personal choices. 19:13
Your guest is amazing and brilliant! I loved listening to him talk and share. I’m buying his book. Also , I’m a new subscriber! Thank you from San Diego 🫶🏼
Working in wound care, I have seen a significant increase in colostomies with people who have been taking semaglutide. G.I. disturbances and issues.
Such great information! I loved listening to Johann.
Very good point!
@sagel4940 you can say that again
I appreciated the sincerity of his opinions.
I’m looking forward to reading his book!
This was unbelivable!
Such an interesting conversation the Japanese approach sounds like a regime but they do get the right results
Great interview! Enjoyed and learned so much about this medication and obesity! Also about the people that take this just to keep up with society.
Fascinating conversation. I really appreciate it.
One of the most balanced conversations I have heard on the topic.
😮
Similar symptoms to Pancreatic cancer. This drug may be dangerous.
Great podcast 🍀the power of society✨ the part about Japan was amazing

It says something about that you would be friends with people like that .... and it is concerning.
@@JennHayden Did he judge my morality because someone I was friends with? That would be abhorrent. I would never be friends with people like that, that's a bad personality trait to have. Just imagine he would tell that to strangers online he doesn't even know, disgusting.

But you can reverse all of that with your diet and not take the medication.
FULL STOP.
Hello, they’ve tried diet and have struggled… people don’t get it, sadly. 😢
Thanks for this brilliant video! It’s the first clear discussion of the pros and cons of Ozempic that I have found.
Amazing!!!
What about phentermine? I’ve been on it for over a year. 😮
Phentermine is like Ozempic
Really good episode!
Thank you!!!
Thanks Jay, and Johan for such great and valuable information!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great interview
Thank you!!!
Interesting interview but tbh I wouldn't trust anything synthetic with possible side effects.
Thank you!
It’s so frustrating because I watch what o eat also. People don’t understand this struggle unless they are going through it or have gone through it.
Dr. Mary Claire Haver who now does exclusively menopause/ perimenopause care has explained in multiple podcasts how it is much harder to lose weight/ keep weight off when estrogen levels drop.
@@lindajones4849 what’s the podcast. Is it here name? I’d like to listen.
OMG there is some much I have learned from this episode and contemplating getting his book but there is some real good information just listening to you both. Japan and how they handle their nation on diet and how the US is so greedy on making money at our expense and health is so sad. I can say so much more....
❤love this podcast
Most insurance companies won't pay for it. Smh! I can't get it.
I just received my Semaglutide today and was freaking out with embarrassment and worry. I am much more informed now. Thank you
I started it with compound pharmacy online. Just starting my eighth week lost 14! No troubles at all. Good luck!!!
Down 47 pounds in 5 months on Semaglutide peptide! Make sure you’re working out and lifting weights to keep from being “skinny fat”
Hello Jay Shetty, do you think an interview for Emma Watson is possible ? Thank you in advance !
We are so behind with the Japanese diet. 😮
