I think car covers can do more harm than good.
Very cool! These are just a nice looking car, but not as common as the popular 57 you see many places. As for covers, outdoors here it was a must, but we'll see what I do when the shop is done. I fear between other projects and dust from our area, I'll still need some sort of cover.
@@DachsAutos I got a $40 SUV cover from leader covers and it's fantastic.. breathable and has a zipper for the door.. can't beat it

Please Keep it original, Once they are ruined it is the end! I drove a 6 volt 1950 Chevy pickup Many years always started.
I sure plan to keep it as original as I can. I have no plans to change from 6 volt, and I took many rounds to find the paint color as close to what what it is now (or was, before metalwork)
Agree 100% When you find a complete original car keep it that way.
Why is it whenever someone has a nice original car SOMEONE always has to suggest butchering it with some kind
Of incorrect engine? Keep it stock! 6 volts is fine. It does sound like it may have some loose rods so you might want to go through the engine. Back in the day, a good mechanic could completely rebuild two of those in a day!
@Craig Jorgensen - Because my friends are jerks, that's why :) It's keeping the straight 6 unless I find something majorly wrong when rebuilding it.
also too many of these old cars are being butchered by chopping the top, shaving door handles ,lowering.changing the steering wheel and taking out the original seats and replacing them with bucket seat out of an 1980s van,,,i hate it when people do that.

@@DachsAutos It runs better than the Pentastar in my 2014 Challenger does. It doesn't need a rebuilt. Just a carb. Put a carb on it and it's pretty much dailyable.
@@TestECull I did have the carb rebuilt, and it runs pretty well now.. it just leaks everything, from everywhere :)
12:51 it doesn't need any of that lol. All it needs is a few minor repairs and current tags. And wide white tires. And probably the removal of that visor for visibility's sake.
The white tires I know where to get, but for now, these were dirt cheap and held air hah. The visor actually doesn't hinder much visibility, but we'll see if I can get it cleaned up when I re-assemble. Disc brakes are a longer term goal, but if it's going to be a sunday church cruiser here, it's OK for the moment, just need to redo all the lines. Currently only the front left grabs heh.
@@DachsAutos heh. heh. Fixing the drums is fine for your usage. I'll be driving 82 miles a day 5 days a week so disc brakes on the front are a good idea...not so much for stopping power itself as the drums can lock the tires up too, but for fade reasons.
I bring the visor up because one of my biggest complaints about...and main reasons I'm ditching it fun fact...my '14 Challenger is I have to lean up on the wheel like grandma and crane my neck uncomfortably to see a lot of traffic lights I drive through every day if I stop at the correct place and am at the front of the line. The reason for that is how far forward and how low the roof comes before it becomes windshield, and I see the visor doing the same exact thing. The 52 I'm looking at has a visor, too, so I guess I'll find out first-hand if it's as problematic in a few days.
Truthfully, I'll probably only keep the Chevrolet for a month or two. The dealer selling it only wants 9 grand for it and it looks like it just come off the factory floor. It's worth 3-4 times what they want. And the bottom end isn't stout enough for daily driving on a 70-80mph interstate. I had my eye on a '53 Ford Business Coupe in large part because the flathead V8 **is** up to that task, and Streetside only wants 14 for that, so I might just get this Chevrolet, then turn around, sell it to Streetside for full value, buy that Ford, and pocket the difference. One of my goals is to keep the car as original as possible while daily driving it in the 21st century and that means keeping the original engine/trans combo...and the Ford flathead is just better suited for that than the Chevrolet is.
I suppose if I really fall in love with the Chevy I can have the rear end ratio altered to get the revs down. I'll know in due course.
I want to replace oil pan gasket on my 51 styline deluxe. My question is, is there any other bolts I need to take off other than the obvious one ? Thank you

Hi David - I couldn't help you there. I've not yet dug into the leaky bits on the car yet. Unfortunately, a quick google search just shows me LS swapped stuff. I would assume it's just the regular dozen or so bolts around the pan, but I can't be certain. sorry!

Likely this will stay around for a year. Restoring something like this, you'll never get back your investment, but that's OK. It's enjoyable and will be something fun my family can enjoy
Have a 1949 Styleline Deluxe all original,unable to finish. Let anyone steal it at probably 4grand. Needs some TLC

That's a good question! I still have the original seats in mine I plan to refinish. If you're looking to go buckets, I'd guess it's trial and error or take measurements, but maybe something out of maybe a camaro or something. Bench style? You've got me there!
@@DachsAutos ya I want a bench.. buckets I'd have to mess with and cut the other legs off and stuff cause of the hump
How much do you want for the little jewel?
Currently, nothing as she's in parts. We've hit the point of having more time and material than a guy would get out of it, plus, she's become a learning ground for new projects coming in.

@@mistervacation23 No spare impala sitting around here. Rule #1 from the Mrs, all my projects have to be contained within the confines of the shop. Just means I might need a mezzanine.
