When we were kids,we spent many happy hours,at the low water mark, looking for edible crabs and the odd lobster,my mobility's gone now,but I love these videos, happy memories.
As a fellow conservationist fisherman and hunter, I want to say just how pleased I am to see a man who is respectful to nature that you are. I can see the care that you taken or to harm anything even the creatures you take to eat. You sir are a true sportsman. Forage on good Sir.
‘Right at your feet… if you only slow down to see it ‘. Words to live by. I’m enjoying your channel more than words can express. Love your teachings to the next generation.🤟
Once again. You have amazed us. My family loves these as we cannot experience these on our own. But you and your family have broadened our world. Thank you! ❤❤❤
Eh up John It's great to see the turning of the season, where before it's been blowin a hoolie and your unable to get out on the boat, yet just a few weeks later the Spring tides bring new foraging grounds to help put food on the table. That soft lobster was stunning, natures paint selection is breath-taking and you wouldn't believe old dull Britain could hold such beauty in it's depths. As always thank you for the knowledge you impart and the clear way you explain everything a non fisherman can use to bring in delicious seafood for the table. Love to the family and keep safe and spread the message around the globe X
Thanks for showing the seaweed so close I've often looked and listened to you explaining the different seaweeds but haven't been able to see the difference between some of these. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🥰
Fabulous as always, John, thanks for cheering up my morning. Hope James isn’t too sad about missing out - big high 5 to him - the Bosman 😊 from Holland. Take care, regards to Hannah and your daughter. Lots of honey and lemon to heal your throat up, John, get well soon 😊❤thanks again, Kirsty, Holland xx
Many years I would work on the low tides, those Spring tides you could never miss! When the seas uncover their bounty! I would harvest but very mindful to protect future harvests. I would gathers crown Limpets after storms by the sack full, only those large ones. I would shuck them wash out the inks, Wright and bag them lay flat on boards and freeze. I became the main supplier to “AMMO” baits. Loved working the tides. Winkles, clams, oysters, trot lines. The Spring tides I would walk out across the mudflats to get the flatfish that would be in the pools, within the deep channels. Starred with Tilly lamps but over time in came headlamps, free hands! Self made mud pats..hard work but what a life! Out in nature. 💗
Brilliant pal!! I'm from land locked Stafford in the Midlands and I envy anyone who understands the land that they forage.. You're the first person to show the anatomy/growth cycle of a lobster... Talk about true blue! I did wonder why some were blue and others were black in varying sizes... David Attenborough eat your heart out!! I know more about the Galapagos than my own Island!! Credit where it's due pal.. That was an amazing forage!!!
Get well soon, John. Enjoyed learning and understanding how tides work. I was clueless before stumbled upon your videos. I'm grateful to learn many new things about the sea and knowledge in foraging. Also, picking 5 things each time I visit places.
What an interesting trip. To see the soft lobster was fantastic, also to hear about its eating the shield and of course it does but it is so interesting to hear about. And then there is all the sea weeds, I am always so impressed that you know all the names and know so much about them. Thank you again for your wonderful videos John. All the best to you and your family.
Thank you very much. I am glad that is transfers across in the videos as it is something we are also teaching our children. Take only what you need and treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. 😊🦞
Thank John for another very interesting and very informative video. I know what you mean about people just walk past such wonderful flora and fauna and are oblivious of the wondrous nature about them. Great explanation of the soft shell lobster and his hard shelled brother!! Thanks again mate! Wonderful 👍👍🦞🦞 Graham
I’ve been addicted to your videos since I discovered your channel. You’re such a likeable, enthusiastic guy and very knowledgeable! I was curious if marine biology is what you do as a career or if it is just a hobby?
Will be round your neck of the woods this summer! Camping near Bude but will be doing many day trips to the coast. Planning on making a video putting all you've taught me into action! For a woodland dweller like me, I love any chance I get to forage on the coast.
Another great day shared, you teach us such a lot, thanks. Its really incredible how much life there's about on the sea shore isn't it? There were a few others about because you could hear them but it would be packed out come summer. You are lucky to live in such a lovely part of England.
Oh my gooosh I watched this channel years ago and then miraculously remembered it! Maybe it's an odd thing to be nostalgic about, but I miss these videos
Thanks for sharing, John, the wealth of knowledge you freely give is ALWAYS gratefully received. MASSIVE thank you from my good lady, two boys, and myself for the day you gave us today. Followed in the footsteps you laid a while back in a video where you visited Prussia Cove. We visited today and had an awesome day. Was a little dismayed I didn't have you on hand to correct my shaky naming of plants and their uses. Plus the myriad of plants that looked edible, but I had literally zero clue whether they were, so, left well alone. Loads of wild garlic about, plus a stunning freshly emerged beetle, some mushrooms, and, we got to see the choughs too!!!! Really taking our time to be in nature was just beautiful. Great way to spend my birthday, with my beautiful family, in such an awesome location! Thanks mate, all because of your video! 🤍
I am glad that transfers across in the videos. It is also something we are teaching our children. Take only what you need and treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. 😊🦞
Great video as always, great to see the blue lobster and understand how they grow and shed there shell. Your knowledge is amazing and you look like you are very happy when you explore

Good evening John, great day out at the shore. It's been a fantastic day up here in Northumberland. I was in the middle of Amble harbour this morning taking pictures of the entrance and the old coal docks. 👍
Showed my wife some of your videos, being vegan she is very interested in the seaweeds. She is now reading up on them as we hope to be in Cornwall late Sept and she would like to forage for her own seaweed salad. Great info John.
You might as well had the wet suit on John for the depth of water you were up to 🤣🤣, seeing the lobster fresh peeled was quite exciting to see, cracking colours too. Cook up was epic once again mate, appreciate your efforts bud
Long time no see. I have been in the Uk for 4 months unfortunately lost my mum I was fortunate to see her before though. Great to see your out and about clear the mind. Cheers
