- I got the FC 30 tuner physically mounted!
The only tips there were make sure you take the rubber feet off because you’re going to connect the brackets to where the rubber feet used to go and that the slotted hook part goes in the front and the two screws in the back or not shouldered like the screws in the rubber feet are so be sure to use the screws they give you not the screws that came out from your rubber feet.
In this video, I’ll just go through the steps that are on page 41 of the 5897 manual under transmitter operation for the FC 30 automatic tuner so if you’ve done that before you can skip this video .

When you use this tuner, do you sacrifice CAT control for digital operation? It appears that the only CAT port is used up for the tuner, with no pass through option for CAT control by computer.
That is correct, the tuner does occupy the CAT connector, here is the workaround: www.secradio.org.za/zs6src/secfiles/pdf/CAT_Mic_yaesu_ft897.pdf
Thank you!!!@@tyrueiI
Not a single installation video on RUclips 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Did you mean for the tuner, or the CAT control?

For The tuner ,, I got my manual out , just finished it 👍,, what is the CAT stuff ?
The question also came up regarding the port used for the tuner is also used for computer control. Once the tuner is installed there is a workaround to use the mic jack, as I recall.

Hmmm ,, I’m not real familiar
I don’t use a computer the way I do radio
I know a lot of folks do , but I stick to the regular way of the radio, mic and antenna and sometimes a tuner
I’m not against learning , but life is complicated enough !!
Agree with you! I’m enjoying the K1 for that reason. Transceiver, Tuner, Battery, Noise Blanker, Variable Crystal Filters, Keyer, all in one box! Just add antenna and a paddle and I’m good to go!
