Why The Nurburgring 24 Hours Is The Greatest Race In The World

- For me the Nurburgring has always been a special place. It's the track that I spent all my time learning in Gran Turimso 4, playing split screen with my friends in old Toyota Supras and drafting down the back straight. Somehow, despite all the tech advances since then, no sim has captured the magic of the event. rFactor 2 comes pretty close.

One of the best parts of the race was that it was free online. No needing to find some shady streams or paying some monthly subscription for an event.
If you do not care about going into the stadium, you can also watch the race for free around the ring. They are luckily still very close to the fans.
Haha cries in french
Wonder how much longer this will last... Hopefully a long time yet
RIP Dacia Logan. Along with Foxtail, you were by far the fan favorite.
not even the Dacia Sandero smh
@@swilleh_ I've heard that it has been delayed :(
@@ananastudio OH NO!

15 years ago we had 220 cars and more that would have wanted to participate. 150 of those were cars like the Dacia whilst still having awesome GT cars in the front. I find it so depressing that kids nowadays only know this gt3 era post organizers killing the race for TV fame and dull F1 crowds
24 Hours of the Ring is basically a Battle Royal for Motorsports.
Watching this years race on livestream was magical. It was a fantastic race. So awesome for Frikadelli to take the overall win for Sabine.
I hope the livestream from Le Mans is just as good 👌🏻👌🏻
I was there and watched it all live, it’s a racing event you cannot compare to anything else.
The fans and the competitors all sticking together even tho they compete makes it something really special 🥰
new distance record too
@@jehoffy_148 fully agree it's a really good experience and I think it speaks for itself when there where only like 30crimes reported and the camping areas were clean
14:51 seeing the GT4 going on 2 wheels in the rear view was so sick.
Man, this year's race was epic. Fights all over the place, especially the battle between BMW and Audi in the night and RIcardo Feller driving like a mad man because of the penalty. When I woke up at 4 am, two Audis were out, a GT4 was in the gravel and shortly after the Dacia was ded. But when at the end the Frikadelli Ferrari won, I was full of joy and kinda sad, that we have to wait another year for the next 24h race. Hopefully with more cars next year.
Feller was incredible. Others called him crazy for his driving there, but I mean it in the most positive way.
If this isn't the epitome of the rF2 experience I don't know what is.
The unique nature of the length of the track adds SOOO much to it too. Getting a puncture 2 minutes into the lap is really problematic, fuel tactics, weather due to the sheer size of the track, timing of yellow flags actually playing out and can really shake up things. N24 is so badass.
The Dacia crash was so genuinely heartbreaking to watch live too :( Outside of that, there was some epic battles going down. The two Mercedes AMGs were neck and neck for a while battling each other.
One of those cars came out of the box and stood 100m after the exit. My first thought was, "OMG, he doesn't have to drive all the track to get back, does he?" (He was allowed to use a shortcut.)
@@gwivongalois6169 Also the Lambo crawling back to the pits was amazing to see it safely make it back.
i wouldn't necessarily call it the best race in the world, but it's absolutely the most challenging.
the unique thing about the nürburg ring is that it's just really dangerous to drive with other cars on it.
like there are a lot of hills where you straight up can not see what's behind, the track narrows down to a scary degree at many points, the road is not flat at all either.
it looks like someone hammered a ralley track round until both ends roughly overlapped and called it a day. like i honestly believe the designer meant for it to be driven with a co-pilot who has a map and no other cars on it.
14:54 homie went up on two wheels!
Near Miss Jimmy is my favorite Jimmy.
That said, watching him fly around the Nurburgring, at night, without breaking his commentary for a second, was pretty unbelievable.
The intro to this video is class. You can tell the passion is there. Love it. Well played.
Was fortunate enough to see this years outing live at the circuit, was really sad when the Dacia crashed and when Grello retired. The people that attend are amazing I'm fairly introverted and I got adopted immediately and drank some beers with them. If you ever have the chance to attend, do so
It really was excellent. No fuss no annoying people. And great cars everywhere you look. Felt like home :)
I haven't been able to watch as regularly as I used to, such is life, but I'm genuinely glad I tuned in for this. Can really feel Jimbo's enthusiasm and enjoyment.
I absolutely agree jimmy. I love all sportscar endurance races but the 24h of the nurburgring really is something special. It's an insane race
We need more content like that ! That passion you have and demonstrate is exactly why I subscribed 3 years ago. From the shed to the house, from the sim to the real racing, one thing remained and it's that passion !
The way you spoke about the N24 hit hard. This year also relit the fire under me for this celebration of racing, and reconfirmed my *need* to get there in person.
Bucket list iterm for sure. I've been already once for a track day but need to go back for the N24
my brother works at a company that manages the beer supply at festivals, concerts and so on across Germany, he got to work on a music festival there a few years ago, he got to drive his forklift on the track, but they didn't allow him to drive the whole thing (in fact i doubt the big manitou forklift even holds enough fuel to finish a single lab anyway.)
This years improved TV camera coverage also lifted it to a new level. Spectacular.
Saw you in the chat, even got that shout out didn’t you Jimmers! It was a good race and ofc because of the weather at Imola; but it was a great race! Soo amazing too to see Fikadelli win! Rest in Peace Sabina Schmidt
You introduced me to sim racing now you introduce me to real life racing, ty jimmy ty! Would not have this passion without you
it makes me happy to see him gushing about how much he wanted to drive the ring in real life, to seeing him actually win the real Nurburgring gt4 championship.
I love these types of videos, Jimmy. They show your passion. That is 100% what I am here for.
Awesome video, your enthusiasm is so contagious. Just love to see you having a good time!
Well it's not easy to describe how going to this race live feels... it is a strange feeling, you feel like you are really part of something, the accessibility that you have is incredible, i did the night at the nords, got back in the paddock at 5 am, than the grandstand, passed the last hour behind the Frikadelli Box following the race on the screens while the tension for the end of the race was rising.
This race is tough on the Cars, on the driver, on the team and on the spectators as well.
I agree, it is the best race in the world.
After watching this indy 500, the celebrations, the excitement. F1 needs more of that.
Totally agree, the 500 always has that F1 title decider going on. Shame Indy doesn't get too many viewers outside of the 500 because they deserve more
@@samkwant4050 so true
14:53 OH MY GOD THE GT4 LITERALLY ABOUT TO TIP OVER FIGHTING WITH THE BMW LMFAOOOO
R.I.P Dacia Logan 🙏 gone to soon
If you have the opportunity to go and see it or even an NLS race, go for it, this is the best fan experience you can ever have. Viewing points along the Nordschleife are insane and all of that for a ridiculously low amount of money, which goes to show that the organizers do care about the fans
22:18 I feel like Jimmy knows something... Can't wait to see you racing here irl!
After Years on the Sim and watching it on YT. I'm so glad I went this year can recommend it to everyone 10/10 Motorsports Event you can't get closer than this . 1150km drive was worth it !
Foreshadowing much?? I love what you have achieved Jimmy. I cannot wait for this year's N24. Congrats on the race this weekend too.
Funny... you just did it this year.
Funny man, this Jimmer.
as if he knew what he wanted. as if he was any good at anything.
Sending a high five.
I once visited a 6h endurance race around the nurburgring gesamtstrecke with roughly 60 competitors distributed across multiple race craft classes. there were GT3s or so, Tourenwagen and just modded roadcars like a Volkswagen Polo with stickers. i sat on the tribune at the start finish straight towards the first corner. the engine's roars were awesome. right now i have a good chance to get a free taxidrive around the circuit.i am hyped for that. I wish all fellow Nordschleife fans a nice day and may you get the opportunity to drive on the track
Agreed, it was nice talking to you in stream chat nearer to the end as well
love the detail of the jackets on the marshals and the signs reflecting back.. the detail and the beauty is really very cool
Thanks for sharing your passion Jimmy. Great video.
Amazing race. And not to debate Gran Turismo vs PC Sims, but I still think the N24 Circuit was the best on that game. The day/night is amazing, spectators all around, campfires etc. Just beautiful work from Kaz and Polyphony truly inspired from the love of that race.
That was a great video. I liked RF2, especially the day/night/day transitions, variable weather, drying line, the feel of being just on the edge most of the time, and the look of it. My old clan used it for all our annual enduro events, one of which was 24hrs of Nords at 4x time acceleration.. 6 hours online with max of 30 racing mates. Awesome times
Not sure how much time you put into scripting these videos but that intro was so good. You put it so, so well.
But Jimmy, the Indy 500 comms team said that the Indy 500 was the "undisputed greatest motor race". How could you possibly argue? They said undisputed.
I was there with friends camping at Adenau forst, watched quali1 at the foxhole, and the night stints in the race at miss hit miss. What an experience. Been there a few times before and it doesn’t get boring.
Can recommend it to anyone who is able to go. It Will be difficult to find camping spots tho if you arrive later then Monday probably so you maybe need to ask some people if you can camp alongside
RF2 is easily my favourite simulator. It gets SO MANY THINGS right. And even with all the things that goes wrong. I cant help but love it
LOL that porsche on two wheels in the rear view mirror at 14:50
And now Jimmy is part of the Greatest Race in the World
Realtalk I am so happy for you Jimmer
You kinda have a spidey sense to avoid crashes. Very nice. ❤
I actually participated in the ACF league NBR24H in Assetto Corsa just last week. Literally almost no requirements to get in except for a just enough bit of driving skill.
It was so cool, met new people as I joined a team and we just had an amazing time in the race with our TCR Golf. 48 teams with over 200 people driving that race with us.
Le Mans is next in AC in just 3 weeks so excited for that.
Definitely got me into league sim racing and got me more into the real NBR/endurance scene
This video is amazing, absolute carnage the whole way. The green hell is truly the pinnacle of motorsport I agree with that for sure
Its amazing to see that now he will be racing in the N24 good luck
Watched the race live for as long as I could and the first 8 laps were absolutely nuts! Loved that the Manta actually finished but the Logan accident was typical of multi class racing. The slower car can't get out of the way of the faster cars that don't want to slow down.
Rust In Pieces, Logan!
i like the fact that you've released this during the IOM TT, probably THE greatest road race in the world
Damn I was just watching your karting videos and new video popped up.Thanks Jimmy, you’re about to delay my bed time with 23mins 😂
damn
Love hearing the Persona 5 Casino Palace theme.
Great video and driving! I love driving the 911 RSR on the Nordshleife.
Could not agree more... LeMans, Indy... both very special events, but to me they do not feel as close to me as the N24. Just seeing something so close to roadcars race with GT3 and experiencing how close to all fans this event is is just amazing.
If you are ever at Nürburgring while there is no race going on, rent a bike in Adenau and ride around the ring on your own to properly soak in all the awesome corners.
I think I agree, any real life nurburgring onboard driven in anger is absolutely spellbinding
Just finished our 24H Nord on AC. We came P1 in class and P8 overall. Porsche GT2 Clubsport is scary round here but great fun. Couldn’t agree more, best race there is :)
Edit: just adding to your comment about RF2 being unstable, AC for us was amazing, and whilst we only had around 50 cars, there were 0 server issues, just a bit of lag that comes with AC multiplayer ;)
Good point about the accessibility (in terms of money) of the event. Some people mentioned that the stream was free as well.
Actually Jimmy *pushes glasses up the nose*:
I recently had the pleasure of trying out the GT7 on PS5 VR2...wow.
The physics are somewhat improved, but the ambiance...mah gerrd, I had to stop the car and just admire the lighting on the dashboard. Absolutely stunningly beautiful.
I absolutely agree with you that the Nürburgring 24H is the most fantastic race in the world. I was there a couple years ago and actually met you then because of a friend who watched you. I did not, but I have been watching your channel ever since. I am thinking, could this sort of thing be created in multiplayer in Assetto Corsa + CSP + Sol perhaps?
Epic video Jimmer...ngl when Kevin Estre lost his back left and spun l was guttered for him and the charge was done
...But this years 24H was awesome and happy that a kiwi was in on the gt3 dub ⛳
Memes aside, the dacia was such a dangerously slow car to be around the Nurburgring 24h, I was surprised it actually took that long for it to cause an accident.
IOM TT says hello
The foreshadowing is crazy
It’s awesome to go there for the race, but it’s also awesome for how the online coverage is done. Both ways of watching are just amazing.
Great vid, Jimmer
This video affirms all of my feelings about rFactor2. So close, yet so far. Glad you can still get enjoyment out of it, I struggle to have the patience for rf2 personally.
I was there, camping for a week and i must say, the atmosphere with all the fans is absolutely one of a kind, and what makes the race the greatest there is
These are the best kinds of videos
I've subscribed for years and never commented but this is your best video in my opinion.
Despite being subbed, I haven't been keeping tabs on Jimmer in a while but, boy, am I glad the YT algo gave me this gem. It reminds me of what I see in this man. The pure enjoyment and passion compared with almost robotic reflexes and perception.
I go in person every year, and yes, it is the biggest race in the world. Nothing compares to it, the concept is just insane. Price is really budget friendly (full week 74 EUR, weekend 70) with access to all the track with no other restriction than the VIP areas. You are literally able to walk through the paddock or do the grid walk 15 minutes before the start of the race, and that's just the starters. Then it's 26 km of track to walk around with the craziest fans you could ever find.
At least that t2 incident didn't end up like the real life GTs in Macau a few years back! 😆 Edit: I spoke too soon! That was carnage at the far end of the GP circuit! Lol!
We just did a 24hr Nordschleife hosted by AC Friends on Assetto Corsa - the epicness of this race is really without comparison. ❤
this is awesome i wished it would never end if you ever think of doing this again that would be awesome
love the classic style video :D
Great video!
Yes Jimmer what a banger of a video
Unmissable race, I make sure I watch every minute of the YT live stream every year since I found it in 2017. Amazing track, unpredictable, huge field, insanely close racing especially between the SP9 cars and hundreds of thousands of fans having a 3-4 day party. If only there were more circuits like it! I recommend watching the final laps of the 2017 race, for example. Unforgettable stuff
Loved this stuff, this is why so many people still hope rfactor 2 will get improved.
A+. It doesn't have to work well for it to be fun. True simracing content.
Had the race on while competing in the Silverstone 24 hour in the c1s. Brilliant
When Glickenhaus is racing we should support them, they are a new ish team and james and the boys are a nice bunch, james takes his classics to events so kids can grow up knowing the cools stuff from the past, which is exactly how he got into being a petrol head. James is a nice chap and i'm sure if jimmer approached him , james would be up for doing a colab ... great marketing for both parties.. anyways awesome vid as always cannot wait to see more time trial craziness with minty which i'm doing a 3d of, coming soon!! xx
Thumbs up before even pressing play. Thanks Jimmer, I kinda teared up at the beginning.
You got balls saying this immediately after the Indy 500. XD
N24 got me into endurance racing. I agree with Jimmer's statement.
That first lap was one of the most entertaining laps I've ever seen😂👌🏻
4:09 just that wreck avoidance alone lets me know how far you've come jimmer.
*See ya around birb*
I 100% agree that the 24h NBR is the best race of them all. Great Video aswell! Also: RIP Logan
Love watching Jimmer race G EYYY 3 cars.
The CARS AND BIDS! Part made me expect a Doug demuro ad for his website hah
22:18 - you will have to let us know how it felt!
I didn't get time to see the race live but I did see the 2 hour classic race before the 24. It was great to see the classic cars push hard. great coverage and such a lively event. RF2 Please sort out your issues, the DLCs are great but let's get the core game sorted!!!
the best feeling is that this track will come to acc next season so its finally here in a stable multiplayer
14:55. Porsche nearly flipped over
the fact that the N24 is so cheap in comparison to attend as well definitely makes it unmatched compared to other 24h enduro races too
Completely agree.its one of the cheapest events to go to, food stands everywhere and are actually reasonable in price. Everything about this race is for the drivers and the audience without any corporate interference ruining the experience.
rFactor 2 is actually starting to fix their servers this year. Last year was the year of new content. This year is said to be their server fixing year. At least from what I heard from Michi Hoyer's stream I watched a few days ago.
AC with content manager on the combined layout has all of the fans contraptions and all modelled in
Loved this!! Such a cool way to do the N24. I do think AC would do it better though 😅
NBR24 is the one and only race that i can watch for almost the whole length
I enjoyed, thanks
You have to love the commitment to have nearly a thousand video cameras to properly cover the race. Oh wait.
