Thank you, I was thinking just the same thing - especially about the repetition of how long, great, legendary, a challenge, a test etc. the Nurburgring is.
what I learned about Nürburgring Nordschleife: > Hyundai did not build the Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai tests their family cars at Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai buys expensive inspection equipment, to use in marketing videos > Hyundai has set no records at Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai has not demonstrated any significant innovations at Nürburgring Nordschleife > Hyundai must have slipped the video producer some money Seriously, there is some very good history about the Nürburgring Nordschleife in this video, and Hyundai has been an amazingly successful startup .... but the Hyundai segments are crudely interjected into this video production in a way that makes the viewer angry at Hyundai for duping them into watching a commercial. Maybe only a couple Hyundai snippets, and a sponsored by Hyundai text in the credits .. would have been much more effective at selling their brand.
@@jumpercable20 Those don't need to advertise (even though they do). I cannot afford a Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini. I can afford a Hyundai, though.
I'm living near to the Nurburgring. It's not only the weather itself - it is that you have very different weather conditions in *one* lap. There are many days when you have ice and snow in the first part, then a wet area where it's raining and a sunny dry one. Also the weather changes very fast due to the exponed location. Another difficulty is that you have different surfaces all the time. The Nurburgring is a real challenge for cars
@123jogger123 - I was there on opening week of Touristenfahrten back in March 13 of 2006. On my 1st lap coming out of the gate from under the bridge through Tiergarten all the way toward Aremberg, the weather, while track itself was a bit damp from melting ice, was nice and sunny. By the time I'm approaching Fuchsröhre the sky dimmed and it started to drizzle a bit. Then before Kesselchen I see flurries of snow. As I made my way down Hohe Acht and through the downhill squiggly turns the sun was out again and the blinding reflection from the melting snow on the side of the road was in my face and I had to slow down for the icy runoff as the back of my FF Gulf TDI rental car was stepping out LOL. Only in Nordschleife where a plowing front wheel drive front engine car could actually inadvertently have its back end break loose! Lap 2, the weather condition reversed; Lap 1 conditions no longer applied... LOL! One got to actually be there to know what I mean ROFL!
I dream of living near it your so lucky to be able to experience this one of Kind strip or tarmac, tell me. How does it feel to arrive at the track in the morning
+AA Nordschleife Media yeah, anyway thanks for sharing this epic documentary video. And thanks to CarThrottle to posted this video so I can know this video.
even tho hyundai was advertised and most shown. I never considered buying a hyundai but after this video, after all these tests, i'm surprised at the quality standards of that brand
What are you talking about Bo? They are one of the safest cars, have the best crash test ratings.. They are not just pretending to do this for the video.
They still should have done a better job. The voice over recording would have almost certainly been done by reading a translated transcript, so it could have been done by anyone. It didn't have to be the translator.
I think it's an Asian thing, Sony execs will talk Japanese when addressing a crowd, and have a junior employee translate to English. I think it has to do with them not wanting to butcher a language they don't speak fluently, so they have someone else do it.
It is perfectly fine to translate and not to ask a person that doesn't speak a language to try and use it. But if you are going to dub someone, why the fuck would you than ask a voice actor to put fake accent. It is stupid and wrong on so many levels....
It's awesome and so on, but I would like to see a quality in-depth, full length, HD-where-new-footage documentary on the Südschleife. There is so little footage of it and it was part of the original Gesamtstrecke.
I love this track to death. There's nothing like it. The exhilarating speed, the g force, the powertrain noise screaming in your control of the throttle, the sliding you experience when your tires starting to wear, the first experience of under /over steering, and the long stretch once you made it through all the turns. It's....... It's really a beautiful experience.
That paint stripping story at 13:36 is a notorious myth. It has been thoroughly debunked in recent years. The story was invented by Alfred Neubauer in his autobiography in 1957. Also, Mercedes racing cars only became known as silver arrows in the 1950's. The phrase was not used in the 1930's.
No, it's not funny, you're just wrong about its purpose. They do that camo so the first official pictures of the car [its important for forming impressions] are released by the manufacturer under controlled conditions, not some paparazzis from the bushes.
If you knew where the term "Made in Germany" came from, you would be surprised about your comment. In the early days, the British produced the best quality of products. The Germans (most notably the now well known Krupp group) went to England to do industrial espionage. The British then coined the term "Made in Germany" to mark inferior copies of British designs. Up until the Germans became better and the terms meaning did a 180 degrees turn, and stood for quality. Inspiration is a process of copying.
There is very little history is this 'documentary', and some of what they include is wrong, as they repeat various myths. Most of this is a Hyundai advert, and not worth watching.
The editor of this thing went completely insane. It is almost impossible to follow, with non-stop jump-cuts, and almost never more than 1 second of footage is shown. This is absolutely infuriating - and I simply can't watch it. This was potentially a really really good documentary, but it was ruined by the editor. I'd love to watch a properly assembled version of it, because it has a decent script, and good personalities in it. But, it's totally unwatchable after just 6 minutes.
Yeah, I love Assetto Corsa and the Nordschleife in it, too. I was shockingly proud when I did a 6:57.7 in a Ferrari 599XX Evo recently. I guess not risking your life makes things easier :D
HYUNDAI are probably the only car company to spend that amount on CT scanning their metal. This is why you should NOT use RECYCLED washing machines to make cars from..... Other companies JUST BUY GOOD METAL..
I have loved driving go carts to race cares all my life. I’m 67 years and would wish I could take one lap on this track. I don’t think you have lived until you drove this track but sadly it won’t happen for me. Love watching the young to the old drive it. I’m so jealous of the ones who get to drive. If I lived there I would drive it all the time.
I made it to around 10 minutes. then i got bored by the repetitive commentary. If you can't even say different and interesting things about the Nürburgring for 10 minutes, you need to give your research department a kick on the butt. Also, say this is sponsored at the start of the.. uhm.. 'docutisement'.
N Performance Division. Haha. I know Hyundai has paid top dollar for Peter and his European buddies from Audi and ///Motorsport. But N Performance Division? I'd think they can come up with a better name. Assuming the car under development is the Hyundai Elantra GT N. GTI and Type R fighter. Great doc Auto Addict guys. Fan of the channel.
Idk, But I really want to pick the Denso Supra on Gran Tourismo simulator on the badass arcade version thats in European countries like Germany. Probably a bit behind on my comment. I think it was A-spec 4. I have yet to understand the German sense of humor. Peace
I just found out Hitler spent a lot of time in Nurburg during his military build up under the Versailles Treaty just recently,. His monies for the Germany turn economic turn-around after the WW1 sanctions. Very random, I know but this doc was right after that. Anyways, back to racing

I'm just gonna say thank you for uploading this even though i haven't even watched it yet. I am so in love with the Ring. Hopefully i will buy my Audi R8 this year and visit every year from this year onwards.
Great documentary... love the track and the history... but following the development of a friggin' hatchback Hyundai 4 cylinder is like watching a following of a tee ball kids team to Yankees stadium.
Its kinda suprising to see a ”documentary„ about the Nürburgring thet doesnt even mention the 24H race or the VLN once. Also, its proof that the story about Mercedes engineers carving of the laqer in the night before the race to get under the weigt limit is wrong. There are pictures (and I think even videos) from the training and qalifying, from the days before the race, that show the Mercedes cars in that silver color.
Lol How much money did the throw away car manufacturer pay to promote their little hatchback with a Nurburgring documentary? Probably could use that money along with money they used to buy their special microscope to design an engine that's worth a fuck.
But something they don't tell you anything about, is all that graffiti on the road all over the track. Why did someone or some people do that to the track? What does the graffiti mean? When did they put all of that graffiti on the ground? I have no idea myself. Was it fans? Was it some just someone or some people who just wanted to clad on the tracks?
WHY IN HELL ARE THE KO REANS DEVELOPING NEW STUFF? ARE WE DOING ANYTHING???? I don't like seeing the world advance and all we do is consume and get high. God dammit I wanna go back to the mooooon ! Noo were building bombs and bullets. Heeey old folks ! We were supposed to be living like the Jetsons by now. But nooooo. WE got guns and bombs and helicopters. CHANGE THIS !
You know what i find BUllshit about hyundais testing. The i30 fd crdi manual gearboxes, Supposedly they do so much testing yet allow shit to flow thru to production. Nurburgring be dammed, its the real world in the country the car is destined for that really matters. And to that point, Who drive a production car around at 90% of its max all the time? sure you can flog the shit out of anything and itl generally run fine, but drive it normally on normal streets and you realise the rattles, roughness, faults and crap that you dont notice at NINETY FUCKING PERCENT!
This episode of "Njorl's Saga: The Nürburgring years" is brought to you "buy" Hyundai. Hyundai, purveyors of one of the most attractive bonus incentive schemes for industrial development and only fifteen miles from excellent Thames-side docking facilities and within easy reach of the proposed M25.
I don't really agree with people who say that you can never really master the Nürburgring... I certainly can't but there are lots of people who can... Like that Porsche 918 could go any faster, i doubt really highly. The guy behind the wheel was giving it 100% throughout the circuit, at one point, you can probably go a teeny weeny bit faster, but that fact works on pretty much any track around the world...
Hyundai only has a recent and peripheral relationship with the Nurburgring, so it totally makes sense to dedicate half of the documentary about the Nurburgring to this company. It feels so much like clickbait. Give us something we want to see, but splice in an informercial we have to either grimace through or skip MULTIPLE times. If it was a company that was there from the beginning, OR multiple companies were interviewed from long time users to newcomers, that would make sense.
A mixture of Hyundai and Nordschleife commercial, with very little about the Ring itself. For example, no map; no driver's-eye view lap. And whoever wrote the actual historical stuff needs to learn the past tense, and how to use it. Very poor.
I was about to ridicule the bit about video games, but then I remembered I looked for that docummentary because I enjoyed this track in Ride 2. On a side note, this thing is really a commertial. For Opel and BMW. I mean, the track stewards use them there, so they're obviously better than that Korean thing, desperate to show it's not only for people who don't care about cars.
Everything about this racetrack is A+++++++++++++...., except the eyesore of the graffiti on the immaculate asphalt, not to mention it affects the grip when the graffiti gets damp and wet. Can't find of one good reason that the track administrators allow it.
great documentary. nothing wrong with being sponsored by some automobile company (just skip it you lazy youtube kids, they even provided timestamps). thumbs up.
Hyundai was like Chrysler used Mitsubishi engines for a long time. So glad they're building their own. Like all Auto Constructors their weak point is their suppliers.

Auto Addiction Holy FUCK how many goddamn unskippable ads do you have to put in a fucking row.
Enough to make you finally aware that there is an innovation called adblock. It was shortly invented after the wheel. Moron.
75% hyundai commercial, 20% repetitive mentioning of how great the track is for testing and 5% of actual interesting visuals (like the historic clips)
you made those numbers up because they are so wrong.
truth
Thank you, I was thinking just the same thing - especially about the repetition of how long, great, legendary, a challenge, a test etc. the Nurburgring is.
Pretty accurate really
These stats are racist oh my god
I thought this was a documentary about the nordschlife, not hyundai...
what I learned about Nürburgring Nordschleife:
> Hyundai did not build the Nürburgring Nordschleife
> Hyundai tests their family cars at Nürburgring Nordschleife
> Hyundai buys expensive inspection equipment, to use in marketing videos
> Hyundai has set no records at Nürburgring Nordschleife
> Hyundai has not demonstrated any significant innovations at Nürburgring Nordschleife
> Hyundai must have slipped the video producer some money
Seriously, there is some very good history about the Nürburgring Nordschleife in this video, and Hyundai has been an amazingly successful startup .... but the Hyundai segments are crudely interjected into this video production in a way that makes the viewer angry at Hyundai for duping them into watching a commercial. Maybe only a couple Hyundai snippets, and a sponsored by Hyundai text in the credits .. would have been much more effective at selling their brand.
I'm sure there would be no complaints if it was a Ferrari, a Porsche, or a Lamborghini.
At least some of the machine operators and computer designers are hot aisan chicks.
For real I’m watching for the track not fucking Hyundai
I agree, shit doc really. i wanted some history about the circuit, some history about the racing there over the years.
@@jumpercable20 Those don't need to advertise (even though they do). I cannot afford a Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini. I can afford a Hyundai, though.
A story about the Nurburgring and instead of showcasing Porsche, BMW or Mercedes you instead focus on Hyundai?

All dislikes are from James may's multiple accounts I'm guessing
DJGarboot BOMB IT!
What else can we expect from "Captain slow"..
There was also a dislike from an account called the Dacia Sandero Promotion Board.
wonder what he'd say if they ever built a Nürburgring version if it...
No, all the dislikes are for the annoying as fuck logo on the top.

It's amazing how many car companies forget over time that racing sells cars.
"Win on Sunday, sell on Monday"

If you're gonna dub an asian person, instead of subtitles, why would you tell the voice-actor to put on an accent and mispronounce words?
I actually think they grabbed some asian guy from the street and made him read the text. Sounds like he learned english about two days ago.
no?

A totally interesting and professional video. The Hyundai bit tied it all nicely together.
The camouflage wrap is funny...the worlds biggest copycats are worried about being copied...lol
I failed to see the point, it's not camouflaging anything but the paint.
@writerconsidered It hides body lines and makes it hard to see the details of a vehicle. Super common on prototype cars.

Rain 223 days a year....really ? Documentary ? Dramatized BS ?
A few minutes of light drizzle overnight is enough to count it as a day of rain.
So that´s the german meteorological standard for counting days of rain ? ;-)
Can you master the Nürburgring? I guess Porsche did with the 919Evo.
Why does he say only 73 corners? Its twice that ! Over 140!
The most beautifull track in the world. See you sunday 11/06 with my MX5 ND white ;) and many other MX5
I learned about the Nurburgring via Forza, definitely a place I want to visit in the future, maybe for the 24.
I have hundred thousands of hours in Nürburgring on Gran Turismo!
Would be great if it wasnt a glorified hyundai commercial
The Hyundi, once rigorously tested at the ring is sure to survive the trips to the shops and back made by its new owners, Mavis and Dennis 😁

I just found out Hitler spent a lot of time in Nurburg during his military build up under the Versailles Treaty just recently,. His monies for the Germany turn economic turn-around after the WW1 sanctions.
Very random, I know but this doc was right after that.
Anyways, back to racing
I still find it funny that Porsche built a car that cost almost a million dollars to go 3 sec. faster than a Dodge that costs a bit over 100,000
$200 000 per second faster isn't worth it. A supercharger or built motor and better tires for an ACR makes more cents to me.
1million to 100k, doesn't matter. Porsche holds more race records than any other company. 'Nuff said.
people who own million dollar cars dont worry about money lol. there is no telling them whats not worth what, most of the owners prob have upward of 50-200 to a billion dollars. Buggatis dont do shit on that track LOL
"Deep in Western Germany" Really?....
I'm just gonna say thank you for uploading this even though i haven't even watched it yet. I am so in love with the Ring. Hopefully i will buy my Audi R8 this year and visit every year from this year onwards.

Nathan why not pc

This episode of "Njorl's Saga: The Nürburgring years" is brought to you "buy" Hyundai.
Hyundai, purveyors of one of the most attractive bonus incentive schemes for industrial development and only fifteen miles from excellent Thames-side docking facilities and within easy reach of the proposed M25.
James May hates this
Basically it's a very sneaky Hyundai commercial >
That's hardly a Nurburgring documentary but a nice Hyundai advertisement.
The 'first moving pictues' of the Nurburgring opening look more like the AVUS to me :)
Crappy docu to use the wrong footage....
Just an FYI - NO ONE thinks of Hyundai when "passionate driving" comes up. They're another rip-off Asian brand, nothing more.
When I watch a nordschelife video, I expect to see about bow's and porsche's. Not a f***ng hyundai. What were the film makers thinking?
Everything about this racetrack is A+++++++++++++...., except the eyesore of the graffiti on the immaculate asphalt, not to mention it affects the grip when the graffiti gets damp and wet. Can't find of one good reason that the track administrators allow it.
My Kia was the worst car I've ever had. It spent more time in the shop than on the road. I'm glad that headache is gone.
great documentary. nothing wrong with being sponsored by some automobile company (just skip it you lazy youtube kids, they even provided timestamps). thumbs up.
Hyundai was like Chrysler used Mitsubishi engines for a long time. So glad they're building their own. Like all Auto Constructors their weak point is their suppliers.
Does the logo at the top have to be sooooo huge?
You have to thank the people who steal and re-upload our videos for that.
".....This program is brought to you by Hyundai. Hyundai - KimChi powered perfection! ;-)
Typical of modern documentary making, repeats the same information over and over again and takes forever to get to the point.
What about the G segment . . . (go-kart segment performance vehicles)
If you watch carefully you can see how and why these people are unhappy ! ! !
