- In this tutorial, I'll show how to shift 10, 13 and 18 speed transmissions. This is really just the basics, I won't be skipping gears but rather show you how to use the range and splitter and go through all the gears along with a few tips on how to build muscle memory.
If you would like to as they say "buy me a coffee", I have a Patreon page where you can do just that.

Incredibly helpful as I just started on the 18 speed. Thank you.
Brilliant video, new to ATS and manual 18 speed, this will help so much. thank you
I know how to operate manual transmissions but was having a hard time getting the high/low and splitting down, you taught in a very effective and explanatory way, thank you good sir
I'm glad it helped. You will soon build muscle memory and it will all become second nature.
Dan you are the man! Could you please do a video showcase on the trucks you used to drive? Paint them up the way they used to be painted too??? That would be so cool!
Nice video, Dan!
In ATS I prefer the 18 speed Eaton Fullers. I love the range and splitting for the American trucks. These days I can't be bothered to range 1-5. I usually start ranging from 6 up after the split.
In ETS 2, I prefer the 12 speed with just the splitter. For that gearbox I use the regular 1-6 then split to 7-12. I had to move reverse to the engine brake button and map the engine brake toggle to a keyboard key since I always have it on
Nice.
Nice tutorial Dan, appreciate the hint on downshifting the 18 speed.
You're welcome! Glad you got something from the video.
What an awesome video. Thank you for taking the time to share the knowledge with us all.
You're welcome. I'm glad it was helpful!
Grate video
Hey Dan, could I possibly ask where you got your shifter? I bought a shifter and it doesn’t have the high low range or the splitter.
Hi Tracy. I converted an actual Eaton Fuller 18 speed shift knob to work in the game. The real ones "valve" compressed air to control remote actuators at the transmission. If your handy you can convert one to use micro switches. The real shift knob is pretty pricey or at least it was here in Canada. I had an SKRS shift knob before that was configured like a European trucks knob. Worked good though and cost the same without all the work! There are quite a few sites out there where you can buy one. If you want to convert one I can find the You Tube video I used as a guide.
@@danmcnarry thank you for your reply, Dan, but no, I am not handy but thank you anyways
If you wanted to be realistic with a 13spd you cant pre select the splitter, you need to flick the split back to low as you go into the next gear.
And what is it you think I am doing when I drive this setup in game? I drive it as i did in real life.
@@danmcnarry thought i seen you split low before you shifted, have you driven 13spds?just an observation is all champ
Nope you def pre selected@@danmcnarry
So quick question i am playing on a gaming laptop would the steering wheel and a shifter work ??
As long as you have enough USB connections. The game allows 5 USB inputs but the guys on my Discord have been talking about a way to increase that. If you aren't currently using any USB control specific inputs (mouse and keyboard don't count) you would need three ports. One for the wheel pedal combo, another for the shifter and finally a third one for the shift knob.
hey! how did you add iphone there?
Do you mean the "over the shoulder" camera? I'm using the OBS Droid Cam for that.
He means the iPhone in-game that's sitting on your dash. I would also love to know what mod that is! I've been looking for one like it for a while.@@danmcnarry
@@Djerov2 old man is kinda confused...did you guys find out what mod is it?
