How to Make a Boxing Fist !

- Опубликовано: 6 сен 2024
- Yes, there are different ways to position the thumb when making a fist, and the optimal technique can vary depending on the person's preference, hand size, and the purpose of the punch. One common method is to wrap the fingers around the thumb, with the thumb positioned along the side of the fist, near the index and middle fingers. This technique can provide a solid grip and increase the force of the punch.
Another technique is to tuck the thumb under the fingers, making a full fist. This can provide more stability and reduce the risk of the thumb getting injured during impact. However, this technique can also decrease the force of the punch, as the thumb is not used to support the striking surface.
There are also variations in which the thumb is placed on top of the fist, or curled inside the palm of the hand. These techniques may be used in different martial arts or for specific types of punches.
Ultimately, the most effective way to make a fist will depend on the individual's technique and what feels most comfortable and secure for them

Why do you not squeeze the whole way thank you sir
With the gloves yes, without gloves that’s a good way to break your thumb
in the streets it will not brake lol.
@@theboxingtrainingnetwork might not “brake” if you have a good gas tank, but it can BREAK. I’ve seen in happen with my own eyes more than once. I’ve also seen poor hand technique cause plenty of other injuries. People break their hands with perfect technique all the time so what makes you think having a thumb hanging out in the side of your fist not tucked won’t do damage? It’s inevitable. Agree.. mostly.
For Boxing yes, you end up conforming to the gloves anyway. The stuff about staying loose is good too, a tense muscle is a slow muscle..
However,...
If you ever fight bare knuckle, or get in a street fight you should tuck those thumbs. The reason is a skilled fighter or martial artist can smack the inside of your fist when blocking or parrying your punch. If they smack your fist with your thumb up on the side or untucked they can easily pop your thumb out of joint (dislocate it) which is so painful you will be unable to make a fist for days/weeks.
I learned that the hard way when I as a white belt fought skilled black belts. Eventually I got it right.
I agree with you on the bare knuckle fighting. One wrong slip and that thumb is dislocated or worse. In the boxing sport, that technique is golden.
Yea bud we are talking about boxing not bare knuckle so that’s kinda irrelevant but thanks for the tip
@@shmokey59 Not irrelevant. Many learn boxing for self defence. Are you gonna wrap and glove up in a SD situation?
@@shmokey59 If you're practicing boxing with gloves and wraps; you should be aware of things that will get your hand demolished in any other situation.

For everyone talking about your going to break your thumb no your not unless you don’t know how to throw a punch correctly the thumb utilizes the muscle in the forearm that stabilizes the forearm kinda like a lock so you can punch more accurately without twisting your wrist

I used it in a street fight and my thumb got fractured because when i hit his face with my knuckles my thumb hit his cheek bone and got fucked up

@@theboxingtrainingnetworkI'd like to mention, the main reason for doing this is to bone alignment easier but it comes at a cost. @@itsloopp4408you hit wrong then
Hand anatomy matters also. Can’t have your thumb there with long fingers.
No joke. I got a good inch of thumb sticking out. And if i do this. Its creates a sort of triangle which if connecting at a weird angle would fuck my thumb up
@@zhdrums3872 A good inch? bro your thumbs must be gigantic
Came here to say exactly this. Watching the video, making a fist thinking that guy has dwarf thumbs. Ain't no way I can do that shit safely.
I assume he's talking about in glove
@AaronEarnedanIronUrn even in glove, if i do that i have about 1.2 inch of thumb just sticking beyond the fist, you can bot even do that in glove with long fingers
I agree with this if the only fight you're having is in boxing... When bare fisting at any time that thumb out is dangerous... When bare fisted, tuck and pull that thumb down on the first two knuckles and that muscle he talked about will activate, and also that muscle on your forearm/ wrist will activate...

Great explanation explaining the muscular part of a punch. It’s clarified it a lot for me. I’ve always held my thumb to the side and thought I was doing it wrong by not talking it underneath like I was traditionally shown in karate. But when I have my thumb on the side and that muscle is active, my wrist and arm are more solid.

Have fun breaking your hand
It allows the rest of the Hand to close tighter fore a more comfortable handle . Virtually feels like it’s nothing to it , Natural . Timing/ clarity
And that’s how I broke me thumb in a street fight
Yeah cuz it’s a street fight 😂 even if you punch properly your still gonna fuck up your hand. Even in bare knuckle boxing they still wrap their hands for some type of support. If you don’t want broken or fractured bones don’t get in a street fight. You can be whooping someone’s ass and still mess up your hand.

No to each his own. This is science of the Body. You can't change that , you will not break your thumb. I grew up in West Bmore fought in the gym and the streets with this fist and never broke a thumb.
If you squeeze your fist at the end and your opponent comes forward chin down, there is a chance that he intercepts the punch with the top of his head, while your hand is not fully closed yet. It might rattle him but he is likley to remain concious while your hand is likely to be shattered. Good luck winning the Fight now. Close your Fist from the get go. Especially when you go bare knuckle - a scenario you easily can run into these days even if you are trying to avoid it. God bless.

@@gerardoarambula8613 thank you for your reply.
Your thumb has greater movement in a circular direction rather than back or forth. Hence, the reason why your thumb will naturally move outwards. This is why it is so important to tuck your thumb because you create more locking pressure and an area for your thumb to move to avoid spraining it.
Good advice.
finally someone who knows what the fuck is up. if you look at a boxing glove, they engineer it in this manner. if the thumb is supposed to go under the fingers, then why aren't the gloves built that way? Y'all haters need to go outside

I look forward to the video of him walking back his statement when he gets into an actual fight. After he dislocates his fingers.
Yea this is only for boxing gloves, say in a street fight u don't want ur thumb on the bottom of ur first so u don't break ur thumb
Even Iron Mike said thumbs under.. To not break it ! And in this science I think he knows a lot
The first thumb position is better for bare knuckle fighting as the thumb is more out of the way and less likely to get caught and broken when striking. Different when your hand is protected with a boxing glove.
Nice tip, travel loose, then squeeze at the end…👍👍
That is essentially an Ishhin-ryu (Isshinryu Karate) first. We use a vertical first to activate the muscles you are talking about. Awesome!

@@o.c.d.5844 He talks later on that this is for punching with gloves on, not bare knuckle
@@theboxingtrainingnetwork it makes sense if you have the boxing glove on, but when it’s off it doesn’t have the same support. It works for you cause you’re probably a god damn beast. But without gloves, there isn’t protection so that’s why they say to put it under. If you know what you’re doing your method is king, if you don’t, tuck it. You may have never broken your thumb but many people have. And you just can’t sit their and tell people that doesn’t happen, when it does. The world is bigger than you think. Step out of your mind.
I think boxing gloves are designed that way because initially they were thumbless and fighters would thumb each other in the eye.

Better if you never squeeze. Punch with an open hollow hand and only apply light side pressure on the side of the knuckle directly above the tip. Aim with the first two knuckles. Faster harder and you won’t break your hand. Transfers all energy into your target

Bruce Lee your God use this fist go do your research , it is footage of him explaining why, Michael Jai White also..
It’s a catch 22. By doing that you may strengthen one individual muscle in your wrist, but you compromise the rigidity of your knuckles and overall hardness of your fist. More likely to break bones in your hand. If your wrist is straight and thumb is firmly placed across the first knuckles of your pointer and index fingers you’ll have a much “ harder “ punch as there is less give

Michael jai white actually briefly touched on this a while back, its actually more beneficial to punch with a lowered thumb like a normal fist, this increases the tendon strength / lock in your wrist making not only your wrist stronger but also helps reduce injury.
He said the opp of what you saying .. The stronger and more chain activated is the fist with thumb pressed on side..

You don't want any direct tension on your thumb when you punch as it will either throw that energy down through the joints or bend outward, away from your fist. The whole point of tucking your thumb is to protect it and strengthen your fist as a whole. I've busted knuckles and broken fingers but if you muck up your thumb that's your whole hand immobilised for a good while to come. Protect your thumb.
