The parents coddled him and didn’t give him a normal childhood. What’s the point in having a genius child if you rob them of friends and normality. Such a shame about the lad that died. So senseless.
It's amazing that these people who possessed such intelligence had no ability to reason. While I realize that the hoarding is a mental illness, I'm sure that the chaos of living in that horrible environment must have warped his mind even further. High IQ, low EQ.

Conwell : In January 2021,a Maryland appeals court overturned the “depraved heart” murder conviction of Daniel Beckwitt. The Involuntary manslaughter conviction was upheld. He'll be 34 years old when he gets out of jail in 2026.
Despite his genius, his ridiculous level of "fear of death" absolutely crippled him and drove him mad. The most valuable possession in the world, is *PEACE OF MIND*.
Just hire people it’s easy to prey on. Immigants who are trying to make a living after moving into a new country, people in bad financial situations who need cash, etc. Turning down a job when you NEED it can be literally life-threatening to some people, sadly. So yeah, presumably some didn’t take the job, hut the ones who did really needed to.
I feel so bad for Askia, he just wanted to be a part of something. He didn't deserve such a painful death, and the fact he had to be put through this just to be closer to daniel is sad.
If I knew this Genius guy who was afraid of dying. I would've told him that the biggest threat to his life was aging. And he should use that big brain of his to figure out a way to either stop or reverse it. Imagine if he made a breakthrough 🤷♂️
If he was so scared of dying then you'd think he'd clean up all that hoarded mess that he could hardly walk through. If there was an emergency he'd be screwed.
@SMA Productions To believe that dude killed Askia in a fire to keep him quiet after having hired multiple contractors is asinine. Additionally, the method is completely nonsensical. You have someone blindfolded in a car for a long time, and you take them to your house to kill them by setting everything on fire.... Dumb idea. It's all yours too.
In his mind, he could easily navigate his mess and get out, the fact that no one else could was a bonus. Of course the reality was that when panic sets in that mess could easily screw him over and he was just being lazy but as long as your ego lets you believe everything is as planned you will have no reason to be concerned
There is such a thing as social intelligence and his parents didn't nurture that in him, so even though he was an academic genius he was socially stupid.
Bad parents with good intentions resulted in their son being ill prepared for life. It's a thin line between genius and insanity. This story is sad. I hope he finds extended family because everyone need someone. Rip to the ambitious young man who lost his life in the bunker.

Daniel's parents did him a great disservice. He was definitely very intelligent and that is partly why he had such trouble. He was raised with his intellect being nurtured, but without the socialization children need. No wonder he ended up with a phobia/fear. He was alone after his parents died. What a sad story.

All else considered, I can’t believe someone with so much money would endanger that kid for $5000. It hurt my heart that the kid was trying to honor his debt in the only way he could think to do so.
I wonder if Daniel was still wealthy at that point? Or did he blow all the accessible trust-fund money like Askia did with his 100k settlement money at 18? Daniel was 27, and Askia 21 at his time of death. A sad case for Askia :(
He took the job because he was asking for more money to boost their app so they wood be sure to get that 100k. The whole thing was sad. Can't believe the guy didn't have a fire extinguisher. Geez.

@@Bundysvideos I sure do hope you are referring to the antivaxxers as in those that scream "I will not take any vaccine at all" publicly like idiots and not the skeptical people who are in the right for mistrusting the COVID vaccine?
@@nerdomatic2489 no they are both equally to blame. The time to be skeptical is over, over 8 BILLION vaccines given and NO issues, no long term effects. Yet the science is clear there is a much greater danger in catching covid, both for death AND long term health effects. Those being “skeptical” still, are not smart at determining what’s safer or better for them and don’t know how to do basic risk management/assessment. And those waiting to see about “long term health effects” are also not very smart, because that completely defeats the purpose of the vaccine.
@@Bundysvideos No issues and no long term effects? Have you read any CDC reports regarding the heart complications side effect? I would like to refute a lot of your points considering they seem highly accusative and rather ignorant, however I do hope you do not take offense to that claim. While I do acknowledge that COVID has taken lives, I also must acknowledge that half of the time, it was due to surgery complications or other diseases, of which symptoms fell uncannily similar to the coronavirus' symptoms. Lots of the "death statistics" are actually false diagnoses that mark the cause of death as "COVID-19" due to basic testing for the virus in the body (which is about as reliable as a police polygraph test for "lie detecting" on a sidenote) which, due to the symptom similarities, goes into the statistics for those passed away from the coronavirus, and not their actual cause of death. It is dishonest bureaucracy and I've seen these charts for myself and thoroughly researched them the past few months. You also claim that there are absolutely zero long term health effects, which, giving you benefit of the doubt, I will assume you claim "next to zero" - Which even then is quite false considering the fact that I have several relatives that have gotten critically ill or passed away from taking the vaccine this year. In 2020, they got positive for COVID several times, and merely felt it as a mild flu. The fact that 2 shots of a vaccine killed them, while COVID-19 barely gave them a slap on the wrist, says something, does it not? If it was so glorious, painless and lacked side effects, why is it so many actual verified medical professionals object against taking it but are silenced or drowned in the media's panic about the virus? (And, fyi, the virus, which is so so so dangerous and contagious that you have to test for it every single day to see if you have it, and have to take seasonal flu-like booster shots) And speaking of 2 shots... If you claim that skeptics are defeating the purpose of a vaccine which is barely several months old, created by companies who in the past have created medical drugs that actually had *carcinogen properties in them* in the past few decades (looking at you, Pfizer) which resulted in mass deaths of consumers, then you are also quite incorrect because the vaccine itself defeats its own purpose. This is more like a yearly seasonal flu shot rather than an actual vaccine - Why else would you need 2, 3, and even 5 booster shots? I believe this indicates calling it a vaccine is false as well because it doesn't even match the definition of a vaccine. Lastly, the logistics behind the vaccination. The vaccines are developed and produced in labs and are distributed across the country, and are stored in containment until usage is required. That latter line is exactly why skeptics are so skeptical of the vaccine - Those vaccine samples could essentially expire and become dangerous, and there have been numerous reports of (especially) western countries shipping their vaccine samples that were unused to other nations. That all sounds fine and well until you realize there is a certain point the vaccine is no longer actually safe and usable to take. This domino effect cycle continues on and on until the vaccine shots are so riddled with bacteria, you might rather get COVID than taking it - this unsafe procedure and the general lack of proper logistics and funding for the containment and storage, as well as the transportation of the vaccines poses a massive risk. All in all, the skeptics have plenty of *valid* reasons to be skeptical of this particular vaccine. I personally despise anti vaxxers that loudly scream "my body my choice" all over the streets and even don't vaccinate their children, however this COVID "vaccine" (more like a profiting strategy) has red flags all over and in it. If you do not suffer from side effects, good on you, but please do not *ever* pose your opinion as fact of the matter and condemn those who weren't so lucky. Thanks for reading if you got this far, apologies for making it somewhat long.

You can definitely blame the parents on this one. Really reminds me of HP lovecraft's life story where he just depended so much on his mother, that one time Robert e Howard author of Conan was at his house and his mother walked up to Howard with a glass of milk and he stopped mid sentence drank the whole thing and then gave it back to his mother and continued on with his sentence. What a lot of helicopter parents don't realize is that they're going to die before their children and when they do they've essentially doomed them
@@hey9433 Howard Phillips Lovecraft is a well known horror author, the one who created the Cthulhu myths among others. He had overprotective parents, so much so that when Robert E. Howard (another author, mostly known for writing Conan the Barbarian) came to visit him, he stopped a conversation mid sentence to drink a glass of milk his mother had brought him.
The parents' role isn't to protect children. The parents' role is to make their children as strong as possible, so they can protect themselves. That's done by shielding them from dangers that are too great, but also by exposing them to new challenges all the time so they can improve. Helicopter parents miss that.
Not too smart. Flying to LA instead of San Francisco, where you have a meeting that is so crucial to your future that you're placing all of your bets on it, isn't smart at all.

I moved from the US to Germany and I was confused when I learned that homeschooling is illegal here. Felt really counterintuitive and infringing on parents' rights. But now I really agree: even if you have good curriculum and the parents are really smart, the kid will not get the social interaction they need. It's a serious risk to the well-being of the child. Now that I think about it, all the homeschool kids I knew growing up were the most maladjusted kids you could imagine. Some of them tried to go to public high school or college, and none of them did well at all - academically or socially. Especially since 99.999% of homeschool kids in the US are fanatical Christians, so are taught to distrust science and psychology and sociology and instead rely on their belief in God to explain everything. I actually did homeschool for one year where we were moving around a lot so instead of having to go to multiple different schools, we just bought a homeschool curriculum and I more or less taught myself. Of course it was some Christian-based bullshit thing, and it was like 4 years behind what my public school curriculum was, so I could finish all my work in like 15 minutes and I spent the rest of the time learning programming and guitar. Like this was supposed to be 9th grade, and a typical English lesson was somethin like "it is not correct to say 'ain't'. Instead, you should say 'am not' or 'are not'". Whereas in my 8th grade public school English class we were doing advanced shit like analyzing archaic prose to old English and had vocabulary words like "constabulary" or "convalescence". The homeschool one had words like "interesting" or "weird" (because I guess that word is tricky to remember how to spell or something). Anyway, fuck homeschooling.

When you very first described the "hoarder maze" in the basement, my first thought was "and if there's a fire?" A consequence of hoarding many don't think of is that in the event of a fire, people can easily become lost or not be able to escape easily due to the amount of stuff surrounding them and the sheer amount of stuff causes the fire the spread faster and burn hotter and larger more quickly, making rescue attempts extremely difficult. This is especially true in cases where people hoard things like books or things in boxes where everything is stacked up because the idea that "if its neatly stacked up, I'm not hoarding even if it means creating pathways through individual rooms" means they can actually pack more stuff into the space
Hoarding can be a fire hazard. Many occupants die in fires in these homes. Often, blocked exits prevent escape from the home. In addition, many people who are hoarding are injured when they trip over things or when materials fall on them.
What stands out to me is, the young man realized he couldn’t pay back the 5K and was trying to work off the debt. A lot of people would have just said oh well and walked away. Possibly running into pipes that could put everybody at risk? Wtf? This was a missed opportunity, in my opinion. There should have been a serious charge for this to let the public know this type of dangerous and selfish behavior is not tolerated. Common Sense isn't as common as you think, I'm sure this story taught someone that tunneling underneath your house is totally fine and not illegal
i don't think it went onto other people's properties. I think it used his property space and went deeper and deeper. Oskia was working in the "bottom level".

It's a total shame that someone that brilliant was so sheltered as a child. His parents obviously had the best intentions, but...damn. I think this is truly one of the most bizarre stories yet. There were no evil intentions, just really bizarre circumstances. Wow
Home schooling is not such a brilliant idea. The evidence is mounting. Children need to develop certain social skills ouside of the home. Daniel had weird parents to start with, and then the isolation. When his parents opted to home scool why were there no vidits to the home, which should have resulted in some red flag being raised if the house was so dirty?
"I'll be super safe in this house of newspapers and kerosene soaked rags, least I got my bullet proof vest on!!" Genius and insanity tend to go hand in hand, poor Askia!😔
The fact he managed to get an entire bunker dug under his house and not alert anyone is just incredible. This is a very sad story for the fact this guy was clearly a genius, and yet it led him in the wrong direction.
Why is it this bunker doesn't have concrete walls? Why is it this bunker doesn't have a warehouse area to store food stuff? Why didn't daniel use his fire proof suit to save the guy in the tunnel?
@coolman3128 Did you watch the video? The guy escaped that bunker and burned to death because he couldn't escape a window that had bars on it. A window that was right next to the exit door. So if the paranoid fuck who hired him would have had a fire proof suit near the exit of his bunker. This working class joe may have been able to navigate the basement maze and escape to freedom. Because the video stated that the basement was on fire. Not the tunnel.

Fairly common… especially today with antivax nut jobs.
(And, fyi, the virus, which is so so so dangerous and contagious that you have to test for it every single day to see if you have it, and have to take seasonal flu-like booster shots)
And speaking of 2 shots...

The parents' role isn't to protect children. The parents' role is to make their children as strong as possible, so they can protect themselves.

That’s so incredibly sad. This guy trying to avoid death his whole life and all for him to accidentally kill the one person who worshipped him. That poor lad, I wish he would have trusted him(at least for the basement part) 😞
Its so sad, to have all that intelligence but no friends , and unaddressed mental health issues that very likely could have been worked through with proper care. My heart goes out to Ostias family but also it goes out to poor miserable Daniel, rich exceedingly smart, but trapped in a self formed prison already. And now to have to live with what hes done. I think he was so lonely he liked having Ostia there, and this work was an excuse to have him around? IDK
@@primesspct2 tbh I don't think he cares about what he's done. That was the whole point of the rare charge, because he had no regard or care for dudes life after the fact either.

The moral of this story is that emotional intelligence is just as important as intellectual intelligence. RIP to that poor boy who lost his life.
"intellectual intelligence" can't even properly be measured and may as well not be a thing. Emotions are EVERYTHING!
intellectual intelligence is not even a thing.
Isn't it amazing how dysfunctional parents can really mess a child up - even when they think they are doing a great job. I suspect they also thought he was too good to be playing with any of the neighbourhood children - in effect keeping him as a prisoner and not having the basic common sense to understand it.
They were dirty hoarders that sang for a living.
Scared of a nuclear bomb, builds fallout shelter instead of just using his millions to build a nice home in a rural area away from priority targets like cities. Described as "smart" yeah right.
Perhaps his intellect shines through when it doesn't involve his borderline-insane fears about passing away and/or being nuked? Or, perhaps you're right.
Smart doesn't equal Common sense.
Cities aren't priority target...
@@krikukiks genuinely curious, what would be a high priority target?

Maybe if the enemy knows defeat is imminent they could do it as last revenge.
Though USA did target cities. But they were already militarily superior and I assumed it was to break the Japanese unwavering spirits.

But if war suddenly starts and you try/hope to win, you would first try to destroy their military right?

@@DeathDontWait4NoOne not really. Knowledge can be gained in many ways. But the greatest form of knowledge can only be gained through life experience. Intelligence and wisdom are not the same thing, but wisdom becomes knowledge that can be taught to younger people. Oh no someone might be able to come within 100m of your wifi router. Unless Daniel was calling it "massive underground tunnel system 2.4ghz" I doubt anyone is going to care about a wifi network.
If workers used the wifi, they could find out the public IP, which you could use to get geo data. A VPN proxy would have to be used to spoof being in a different location.
No one is going to pick up wifi that is 10+ ft underground, that's a signal stopper there.

When you very first described the "hoarder maze" in the basement, my first thought was "and if there's a fire?"
A consequence of hoarding many don't think of is that in the event of a fire, people can easily become lost or not be able to escape easily due to the amount of stuff surrounding them and the sheer amount of stuff causes the fire the spread faster and burn hotter and larger more quickly, making rescue attempts extremely difficult.
Don't let people you meet on the internet blind fold you and take you to a hidden bunker. Or you'll end up on a ballen episode 😳
Excellent advice!

Daniel seems like someone who had SO little control of his own life as a child that he was seeking control of his own fate and of other people when he grew up. Not an excuse for the way he has treated other people, but a likely factor.
My mum is a hoarder. I can't stand clutter now, and rooms that look even remotely like a hoard will cause anxiety attacks. Just hearing this case has my heart arrhythmic, what an awful and tragic story.
I can't stand clutter either. I'm a huge non-fan of things that personally I don't think should be there. Dust gatherers like ornaments etc drive me spare!
My brother and his wife are hoarders. Every time I go visit, I want to start hauling stuff away. They have a beautiful home, but it's trashed.
I have, surprisingly, the opposite problem. If my room is too clean I start panicking, because she used to scream at me for cleaning "wrong" and would literally go through my trashbags as a child. I'm getting better about it, but I still get super anxious in spaces that are too clean.
My mom was a hoarder and after she passed, cleaning out her house was a mixture of satisfying relief and frustration at the volume of stuff. I could hear her protesting in my head, but ultimately it felt good turning her house into what she always wanted and couldn't do in her own. It was a lot of work, but it helped me grieve.
I come from a family of hoarders as well and i can't stand it. I just toss stuff that i don't or won't/can't use. I can't allow my kids to have to endure the hell that i did growing up
That was the jankiest looking bunker I've ever seen especially considering he was a multimillionaire.
Maybe it was basicly only digging stage, and he would have made it for example concrete, and brick instead of just dirt tunnels. Although i didnt at least in pictures see any larger rooms, but i guess there were some, but why he needed endless maze of tunnels why you would want your bunker be like that is beyond me especially for loner type guy. He could have just made some living space, and storage areas, but i feel he had some kinda plan the bunker was just nowhere near complete
Right like where were the concert Walsall and floor 🤔
Yeah like what's the point of making a massive tunnel system bunker if all your gonna put down there is a ratty mattress and bucket to shit in lol. Especially if you legitimately rich.
Its a thing with passionate computer scientists. Their houses are a total mess. I am one them but cant explain how that works
I know right, when I heard bunker I thought it would be a massive bunker like the one in the movie Blast from the past or the one Mr Beast stayed in, not a maze. Like who the hell needs a bunker that's just a maze that has claustrophobic tunnels. In reality he wasn't making a bunker, but a death trap

Yeah, this really baffles me. To be honest, it's a little terrifying. So a crazy neighbor can just tunnel underneath the neighborhood? Underneath my house?
