- Nebraska football moved to 5-1 with a nerve-wracking, hair-puling 14-7 over Rutgers. Our beloved Huskers were up 14-0 after the first half, then held on, for lack of better terms to grab the win.
Brian Buschini became a Cornhusker god in this game. It was clear Buschini was injured when his first punt attempt was blocked because of poor protection, yet he fought on to BOOM 5 punts for.a 50.2 and a long of 69. His 69-yard punt came at a pivotal part of the game.
Boomschini also connected on a 30-yard pass play to convert a fourth down to salt away more clock.
James Williams had a stand out game with 2 sacks and 2 tackles for loss.
Nebraska's offense was... difficult. Dylan Raiola had his worst game as a young Husker, going 13-27 for a measly 134 yards with one interception.
Nebraska's BLACKSHIRT defense was outstanding. A goal line stand when Rutgers started a drive at the Nebraska one-yard line. OUTSTANDING!!!!

Nebraska has a half dozen guys that can get to the quarterback on a pass rush. That hasn't been true since the Pelini era.

@@lomarsweed6604 Nebraska had a sack and forced fumble that set Nebraska up for the winning field goal (that was missed). Lack of pass coverage lost that game, not lack of pass rush.

a bowl game was my threshold for perceived progress this season. and i think we'll hit it. 14-7 is the most B1G score ever.
Precisely the type of game that the Huskers used to limp to the final moments where they would lose. But, THEY WON (Thanks to the Blackshirts and Rutgers’ offensive ineptitude, but I’ll take it)!!!

Well, no, the final score against Northwestern last year was 17-9, 8 points is one score. The 2022 team beat Rutgers 14-13 and Iowa 24-17 after Mickey took over. Just win.
Tough game to watch for sure - but we learned 2 things. Buschini is a gamer and James Williams is a gal darn STUD pass rusher.
Credit Rutgers they are a good team, we won ugly because that’s how the fighting Schiano’s play.

The play calling in the second half was extremely spotty. I still think Satterfield is incompetent.

You need to understand Dylan made some horrible calls. The wind was terrible, be mad at special teams, but be happy that we won. One more win until we’re bowl eligible.
As far as being worried, not too much. We still have yet to play a full 4 qtrs. Special Teams is an obvious concern.
Raiola has been inaccurate on crossing routes all year. He trusts his arm too much. He needs to remember proper mechanics, especially footwork.
Bottom line , we won. I’m happy to be 5-1. GBR!!
We were favored by 7. Most people picked a 3 or 4 point game several people picked Rutgers...and I am supposed to be upset?
They should have put Hienrich in some time in the second half for fresh legs and let him run at Rutgers.

We have been programmed for the past 6 years having things go wrong. I was worried most of the game. Dylan had a bad day for him but we still managed to win. I do think the wind had something on why we played so conservative in the second half. A win is a win. 1 and 0 GBR!!!
No to your question. Their only chance would have been a big blowout play, but the Husker D kept them in check.
Defense really stepped up in a big way. Dylan is a true freshman and we should expect him to have struggles but he will be just fine
6 wins and an entry-level scrub bowl win will do for '24. Anything beyond that is a bonus.
5-1, with no second half points for the 5th time ( the one time we did score in the 2nd half we got shut out in the first half) leaves me increasingly concerned about this season… especially as we enter the toughest part of our schedule and most of our remaining games on the road.
I’m happy for the win, but it may be a while before we get another if we can’t figure out how to play 4 quarters of football on offense.
Had they pulled Railo and put in Harberg or Gramsted it would have been 28 to 0. Even Brady and Mahomes have bad games, he should have been pulled.

Jon, unfortunately Dylan is a freshman and showing what a freshman can look like. However, I think that his perfomance reflects the heart and countenance of his head coach. Both are playing this game not to lose. Now that will work for some teams and should be good enouth to win 6 or 7 games but will lose close games more times than not.

The game was at risk several times but somehow things didn't go as usual according to the Frost model and last years model.

I agree to some degree. However I'd like to point out that for the last 6 yrs we lost every close game. No this wasn't what we'd like to see, but it's still a big improvement for a close game. They haven't given up even one rushing TD all season. So I'm happy

Jon, did you think Monogamy (or however the Rutgers' RB spells his name,,,) should've been deemed across the goal line on his 3rd quarter TD run attempt? Many people in the stands said it was a Rutgers TD but I didn't have a good angle on it.

Yes sir. I don't know what to make of it. We were in the driver's seat the whole game but Tony White never went ballistic on the QB when we smelled blood and knew he was a total candy ass. That's when I knew we were wrong. Yes Dylan had a freshman game and this is probably 1 of 3 he will have this year. He's entitled. If his uncle doesn't pull his head out of his ass in the offseason and teach these kids how to pass block...............it's going to be Soph, JR, and SR mistakes by Dylan because he's running for his life.
In my opinion Dyland has th1 interception. This was his totally bonehead pick. 1st one. Hopefully the last. And we need an OLine coach on top of special teams.

I put on my go big red stuff every game I hope we win I don’t hold my breath and I get mad when the office thinks the game ends at half time… you mumbled about adjustments? That offense needs some.

The comment about the same time as yours mentions it was a tough game to watch....... but, yeah, the offense was tough to watch in the second half. I'm not sure if that's by design?

Sucks seeing Minnesota produce more scoring than Nebraska tonight against USC amd Washington produce more scoring versus Michigan and Vanderbilt produce 40pts versus the #1 ranked team and so on, but at least we have a punter and a defense that came to play.
Nebraska will unleash the whole offense on Ohio St...anyway I hope that's the reason for this vanilla style offense.
