Gophers fan here. Don’t lose hope. Almost the exact same thing happened to us against Illinois last year. We had them on the ropes and they came back and beat us. It really hurt, but they are a tough physical team that always goes a full 4 quarters and can beat you in overtime. We love Nebraska fans. You have always been quality. Best wishes for the rest of your season. Still could go to a bowl game.

Can't win a football game without a kicker
This game sucked. The defense got manhandled & I can't believe Illinois is this juggernaut on offense. Couldn't put the game on a freshman QB and worse than avg OL & expect to win. Sobering game.
The OL gave Raiola pretty good time, up until the overtime. Perfect? No. But better than adequate.

They were overhyped because we played cupcakes, this game showed them what they are, now they have a chance to change that and improve in areas of great weakness. Better to lose now and get better than to lose later and not learn the lessons in time.

If Illinois is not much better than we thought we need to be better. The Defense needs to step it up, they played sloppy. Our run game needs to do better. Raiola is good and is likely only to get better so I am not worried about him other than that he may transfer at some point

Jon i’m not a Nebraska fan, but I could be a Nebraska fan. Your quarterback is the real deal. Don’t get down on him nor the coach as I think that they both are superior people in their own right. This is the game that I wish no one could lose because both teams played their hearts out. It was just totally enjoyable.

I knew they would lose when this went to OT. We got outcoached for long periods during this game and AT HOME no less.
They needed a gut check but it will be incredible if they get to 7 wins.
Just like the last several years. When it's crunch time our opponents energy level is high. We get blown off the ball on both sides. Our players don't lift the energy level in crunch time. The O-line can't block in overtime. What did they do different than during the game. Killer instinct?

Im not down about Dylan at all. Think he played great. The defense was physical but it just seemed to get beat on most plays. It seemed every pass Illinois was averaging 12-15 yards and the zone coverage just didn't seem to really put an pressure on the receivers. Disappointing result but still think we are good for 9 this year. Go Big Red
This was the least physical game I've seen from White's defense.

Nebraska defense got exposed by UNI and Illinois exposed the defense again. The Big Ten will continue to expose the defense! The biggest concern for Nebraska is keeping your absolute best player! Raiola!!!! That kid is phenomenal unfortunately the rest of the team isn’t up to his speed. Special teams sucks, defense overrated, and receivers that can’t win 50/50 balls. How good would Raiola be at Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama. Something tells me this season is game film for Raiola to transfer. I hope I’m wrong. GBR!!!

Dylan did enough to win the game, his int shouldve been caught. But 3 mins lefts and 3rd and 3 and you take a deep shot? You have 2 plays to get the first down and then you drain the clock and kick a fg and don't even give him a shot

Hard to believe our defense could get pushed around by Illinois for 4 quarters
Illinois has two key transfers starting on the O-line and they've been struggling to adjust to new play calling and teammates. I think they've improved and maybe Nebraska was just a tad over confident. The Illinois run game was shockingly strong in the second half. Can the Blackshirts finish strong against Purdue on the road? We'll all learn more next week.
The game thoroughly entertained me until OT. I can live with a loss but the lack of competitiveness in OT was a very sour finish.
I thought Raiola played a good game. The defense was pure trash. D-line was dominated by an average O-line, safeties were busting on coverage and the O-line failed to take the field in OT.

Defense was terrible. Totally outplayed. No blitz. Some bad calls and maybe the game goes our way. But it is what it is.
Great summary. Outside of an absolute embarrassment in overtime, the big penalties and not putting enough pressure on their quarterback gave them some points way too easily. Still optimistic about the season. NE would have been blown out of that game with our previous coach, and this was a disappointing close loss.
didn’t get crucial calls, they made stupid penalties, defensive scheme did not take away running lanes, some rookie QB mistakes, and cocky Illinois won…it stinks!!!

Raiola overthrowing the easy TD on 3rd down is what led to the field goal try. Yes, his freshman-ness definitely showed up tonight, but his/our future is still bright. Mainly disappointed that we couldn't play better at home. I worry about our on-the-road mettle

I think our play calling on offense was vanilla. The half back pass was almost blown up. We worked pretty hard for 10 yards.
The train has left, there's too many good college programs that have a lot of money, and they're spending it not under the table, it's a new era of football.
Its one of those games that will need to happen to teach the kids how to win. It was close but the implosion at the end was really the worst part.
Most of the starters on defense and oline were here last season. They should already know what losing is. They learned nothing. The way they played in ot should tell you everything you need to know. Same charmin soft mentality as last season

All these close games are tragic but you have a really good quarterback you'll bounce back.
We are not a Physical team by B1G standards. I'm shocked by the defensive performance. Poor sloppy tackles, busted coverages for easy tds. It will be interesting to see what Tony White will do with this defense the rest of the year.

Illinois has a very good team. Beilema been building it for a few years now. Nothing to hang your head over (loss), although the Huskers play in OT was a bit jinxed.

Kicking game is awful for 3 years! OT was a bummer but we pretty much controlled the game! Had the lead much of the game and missed a kick. Def got a stop at the end of game but OT was a shock. We need to bounce 💪 6-1 first 7 take each one at a time!

It felt like when we played Penn State in 82. It felt like an away game with the officiating. I’ll give them credit, Illinois played well. But we did ourselves no favors.

I'm really glad, I looked for your video. You helped me put this game in perspective. I ending thoughts were, this game of college ball is corrupted with gambling refs. I should walk a way from ever watching again. With long family tradition but most of my family have passed. Ya, they still out played us both sides of the ball this time.
We haven't had a field goal kicker for years and so why does Rhule put the game in a kickers hands at any point when you have the receivers and Riola? No killer instinct with the offense and defense got exposed. So many missed coverages and Illinois had them confused all night.
Good point. That's a VERY good point. Dillon is a freshman. He's only 19, but he will only get better. Our team, in general, will only get better.
Great game. Terrific young QB for Nebraska….has a lot of wins ahead of him. Illinois just made a few more plays when they had to and finished the game. Thought the officiating was mostly solid. They missed an obvious face mask penalty on Altmyer that was a huge momentum shift at the end of the first half. Altmeyer is playing like a top 5 QB in the league. Good luck to the Huskers remainder of the season…many more wins ahead.
As a fan I want my team to be competitive and I want to watch fun games. Two top 25 teams met and Illinois squeaked out a win in OT. Granted the way OT ended it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, but teams are competitive, and that was a super fun, close game. Illinois takes early lead, Nebraska answers and takes the lead away. Illinois trails and finishes strong. It was fun. On to next.

Defense was not very good tonight, if our offense puts up 31 points against a top 25 team and we can't win, that's where the problem is, I've been stoked with our defense, until tonight, we need to get that figured out, that's what nebraska has been known for, THE BLACKSHIRTS! It's pretty clear that, despite the loss, the program is headed in the right direction. Bret Bielema teams have been a struggle for Nebraska in the past, just look at his teams back at Wisconsin. I know it's disappointing, but there's a lot of games left in the season and there's still plenty of opportunity for bowl game.

The look on Rhule's face tonight in 2nd half during the broadcast showed a lot of frustration. I don't think he was happy at all with the defensive penalties and or overall poor special teams play.

Didn’t know you were from Curtis originally, live on a farm south of there in the McCook area. Once again the officiating was bad, although Huskers did some damage to themselves. KC Chiefs would have QB run on third and three, ran the clock down to a few seconds and let Butker kick a short field goal. Hindsight is 20/20!
Raiola over threw a wide open receiver which led to a missed field goal. Difference in the game. Also once Illinois started to pressure Raiola at the end of game the game flipped.
I think we all started believing the hype after beating a very average CU team. This game exposed the 3-3-5 short comings, especially when we can’t make adjustments. Illinois had us on our heals the whole game.

This team needs to focus on winning 7 games and winning a bowl game. This is why Husker fans are devastated. The media definitely had a part in setting the bar to high for Nebraska and that's reality. Most fans expectations seemed like playoffs or bust. You gotta take it one game at a time
O line and D line played hard .. only problem, they ran out of gas... also, the coach was not confident in the young QB and lacked the aggression needed to win the game..

The officiating was flat out the most disorganized cluster fuck I have ever seen. At the end of the day, the defense could not get off the field on 3rd down. We should have blitzed way more often than we did, knowing that they were not throwing over the top. We were so scared of a big play that we gave up 3 medium plays instead every set of downs.
