I have over 12k miles on my Lariat and love it. It’s the best F150 I’ve owned. It handles all my daily driving and work needs as well as backs up my home in an emergency. I even keep a microwave in the frunk to heat meals or make popcorn:-)The only real issue is the app, it’s clunky and needs a remake
Love the comment about the microwave. I went fishing with my brother and we brought an air fryer to heat up breakfast. Agree with you on the app, it needs some serious help. I would have expected more from Ford developers with that.

@@PaleBlueDotCitizen I would highly recommend you switching from a Level 2 charger on a road trip to a 150-350 Kwh level 3 charger while on a road trip. You might be pleasantly surprised on how fast it charges (less than 40 minutes).
There is a case for the Lightning but not for all truck users yet. If you don't do many miles per day but need a generator at the site it can be a good deal. Having lots of AC power available without having to lug around a generator is handy. The frunk is also good for storing expensive tools you don't want stolen.
The charging speed is really only an issue if you try to charge it over 90% as it slows down rapidly at that point. The Out of Spec RUclips channel has many videos on charging and maximizing range on most EVs available in the US including 3 on the F-150.
Glad Ford is doing this. The original F150 Lightning price was fairly competitive, which is why they got so many pre-orders to begin with.

I have a Ford Lightning Lariat. Charging at home, speed doesn't matter. However, the charge speed when I am roadtripping could be faster, especially when you get to 70% SOC and above. Otherwise I have no other wish list item. Love the ride, comfort, quiet and performance.
You'll have access to Tesla Superchargers next year, no?

@@ohger1 1st quarter of 2024 Lightning owners should be getting their Tesla adaptors. However, the charging speed with all cars, including the Lightning, is dependent on the vehicles BMS (battery management system). You max out on the Lightning at 150 kwh charging speed even at Tesla chargers. However as it "fills up" you will see the speed drop to 120 kwh (might be the temperature) then another drop at 70% SOC, again at 80% SOC and again at 90%. So you go from 150 --> 120--> 70 kwh --> 45 kwh and down to about 25 kwh if you go over 90% SOC. Charging from 80% to 95% takes quite awhile, so you try not to do it.

I love my Ford F150 Lightening. Best truck l've owned and I'll never go back to gas. Electric is just flat out better. Charging infrastructure is the problem , which Jim Farley said. Most people charge at home and once you own a Lightening you find out all the doomspeak about charging just goes away because its not a real issue. My truck charges 100% from the extra power I send to the grid from my panels. Range anxiety also not an issue once you have one. Your thinking about your trips shifts and it becomes not a thing. No one remebers when gas cars first came out in the early 1900s gas stations were not on every corner and if you took a longer trip you packed your extra gas cans full. By 1930s, 20 years, there were no more horses for the most part on the roads and gas stations were everywhere. We will survive and thrive in the new electric world, this is not the end.
How many extra miles have you packed in extra cans for your Lightning? It's no problem bringing enough gas or diesel to travel 1000 miles. I'm considering a Lightning, but I have a Cybertruck reservation and the Silverado EV has a much more comfortable range to make my regular 300 mile trips thru the mountains.
@Sylvan_dB Using the regen braking and driving reasonably I only use 80 miles of charge for a 100 miles of distance. I too live in the mountains and if you are traveling 300 miles, you'll charge at least once for a 300 mile trip back, but you'd also have to fill up with gas at least once for a 300 mile trip out. If it's 300 miles round trip, you have enough range and if you get anxious about it stop for 10 minutes and get 50 miles more. One thing I did when I got my truck was I purposely let it drain very low so I could mentally face the prospect of low charge anxiety under controlled conditions. It helped me deal with the panic, but turned out it was all in my head. The truck had plenty of charge and my last 15 miles is down dirt roads with no services. It's just a mental thing. We always had the quarter tank rule with our ICE vehicles, not to head down our dirt roads with less than a quarter tank especially in winter in case you get stuck. I have the truck set to warn me at 50 miles in case I need to charge. Keep in mind that with an electric vehicle, you have a "gas station" when you get home to fill up at. Thats not the case with ICE. Not many people have fuel tanks at home for gas. It's just a shift in mental thinking re-learning to drive an ev and managing your anxiety. Now that I've had the Lightening for a few months, it becomes second nature and I don't think about. Now the opposite is true, we drive my wife's hybrid gas and I find myself having to worry about putting gas in and remembering to check the fuel levels.

Our Lightning was supposed to start construction 10/2. Just got an e-mail yesterday saying that production had *not started*, and that because of "supply chain issues", the build was indefinitely delayed, but we'll get updates every 45 days!
Aren't there supposed to be a billion of these sitting around on dealer lots? Or are those just the ones with a $10K "market adjustment" (aka dealer greed premium)? If you HAD to order to get one that wasn't gouging you, I can understand your frustration ... and Jim Farley's.

Nah. People are broke now. Covid money is gone. These have been sitting on the lots and are below MSRP now. Welcome to Q4 2023 by the way. I see some in my area that were listed at $92k in April and have been sitting on there lot since now marked to $70k with an MSRP of $80k.

The tax credit is based on the MSRP, not the sales price. A rebate does not technically change what the MSRP is, so the trucks won’t automatically qualify
And I truly dislike the whole 'Tesla math' of EVs. (You know: with tax credits and gas savings and the savings in time using our cruise tech and the dollar value of joy it's only $35k!
Most of the problems with the lighting is the dealerships boycotting the sales of this trucks I personally experience a reluctant willingness to sell to a point that they make me back out I would try again it just looks so awesome
Around here, Rivian trucks are getting to be a common sight, but F150 Lightnings are not. Rivian is definitely farther down the road toward profitability, and hitting all their sales targets. That’s what Ford and GM need to worry about - losing to a pure EV play making the same product.
No price drops in Canada yet
Giga castings save in parts count, but Munro found that they actually significantly increase the weight of the vehicle versus stamped, spot welded steel. They tore down two different Model Y's and actually measured them. The benefit is in manufacturing complexity and associated cost, not in reduced weight.
On the flip side, massive castings require massive tools that are subjected to massive forces. Producing those casting dies can take months, which reduces agility. Iteration (design, build, test, analyze, redesign...) becomes more difficult. They make sense when you are making a lot of the same model (fits F150) for an extended length of time.

The sales decline was because of a "stop sale" issue. Once they fixed it, the sales resumed.
Nope, it's was because regular people cannot afford the ridiculous price, the discount does nothing.
2023 7,000 miles. Not for everyone. If you can charge every night and don’t go more than say 150 miles out & back, its fine. Milage reduced 50% if pulling trailer at highway speeds. Mileage around town is close to 100%, highway at 75 mph is about 80% of the number shown. As others have stated, the App is horrible. Problems with setting charge limit, remote start, etc.

I am waiting on several things like 250kw (should be 350) charging speeds, heat pumps hvac, a pet mode of some sort, and a sentry mode of some sort.

Let's be honest. Don't say that the ER Lariat has 320m range on a road trip, unless you are driving 40 mph. The highway speed reality is 200m between charges. And the relative scarcity of DC FC stations availability brings it down to 150m planning distance between charges.
Gigacasting would suit the form of the F150 perfectly. Much easier than a sedan or SUV
Nice review of the landscape of the Ford Lightning , however,that battery manufacturing issues do extend to Tesla as well. The cathode dry process with the 4680 battery is still not perfected and is causing production back up and profit issues with this battery. The whole industry in the US is still going through growing pains, Tesla included. Please keep these videos coming. Good Job!
What growing pains is Tesla going through? It makes a profit on every car it sells. Ford is losing about $36,000
@@PaleBlueDotCitizen Tesla has its pains in the US too - Model 3 losing the full $7500 tax credit is 2024 because of sourcing rules and unable to profit with the 4680 battery production ramp up.- Don't be so sure the CT will be profitable out of the gate.
The Lighting has been and will always be cheaper than the normal F150.

I have the 22 Lariat. I make too much money so zero discount or tax credit. I e had it for 2 years and still owe more on it than they are selling brand new. In this instance Ford screwed all of us that bought it in 2022. That being said. It’s awesome. But def annoyed they discounted so much

The cheapest gas 150 costs around $35k usd.I would like to hear from a contractor or landscaper who owns an F150 lightening, Is the gas savings worth buying a $55k truck? What is the average price of F150’s sold?

And how are they going to pay the 40% salary increase of the workers plus the reduction of hours from 40 to 32? The market is going to go to the Chinese. Tesla is busy creating a stupid impractical truck with tinny windows. The Cybertruk will sale well, probably, but it's not a true replacement to the current beloved SUVs. Clearly if the big 3 had not increased the CEOs salaries so much during the last years, and nothing for the workers they will not be demanding 40%.

FORD needs to put a decent battery in the lighning, no matter how chepa it is, if it charges slow and has rubbish range its just not worth the hassle, put CATL more advances batteries in iit with quiker charging, no need to make a new truck,

correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the tax credit now only reduces your year's earnings by up to $7500. The taxes you pay on that would only be in the hundreds, so your "rebate" would only be a fraction of that $7500. Not quite like the rebate given before on the amount of taxes paid. Even so, the benefits of electric drive are worth it to the right person.
No, the credit reduces the taxes owed. So if your income taxes were 25% of your income, a $7500 tax credit that you could take full advantage of would be equivalent to a $30K deduction.
When you have battery swapping tech, like for example NIO, you don't have charging issues. Plus whenever they update the battery, you get the latest vesrion when you swap the battery.
That’s ridiculous! The number of battery swap locations is a tiny fraction of the number of charging locations and you don’t even hear about new battery swapping locations being added.

Drinking a lot I see
Tesla used to lose a lot on every car they sell, too. Now they’re the most profitable car company in the world. It takes a while to learn the new manufacturing and scale it up efficiently. This is Economics 101. This is why startup companies get venture capital. Amazon used to lose money on every book they sold, back when they sold books. That’s how new businesses work.
No matter how cheap it is. Don’t buy it! Total lemon! Ford quality job none!
