Love this signing for the youngest player available for +$5 million in free agency. DeBrusk had an injured hand last season, so his scoring was down, until the playoffs where he was back to scoring clutch goals for Boston, so no worries there. The last couple of seasons he hasn't had an elite playmaking centre to feed him, so I expect him to fill the net for Vancouver. Tocchet is going to love having this guy on his bench.

Another side note, if you think about it, this is kind of part of the Lindholm, Kuzmenko trade. As the Canucks paid that price for Lindholm, as well as to free up 5.5 million in cap.

Vancouver, you’re getting a solid two way player who can kill penalties as well. I’m upset that the Bruins couldn’t at least match that price or do better. They’ve invested all those years developing him why not see it through?
It looks like Vancouver did some poaching from the Boston Bruins. Danton Heinen at 2.6? The Bruins had him at the leave minimum last year through a P/T. He earned his money and I’m as equally as shocked that the Bruins let him go as well after the year he had last season for the B’s.

I listened and learnt some things from another channel too, regarding Canucks signings and wrote a long reply about it elsewhere, which I copy and paste here too (since I thought it was interesting, and also relevant here):
I happened to listen to some random nhl youtube commentary channel (that consisted of several guys different perspectives, discussing) that turned out to be really good (I will subscribe to it). Anyway, they realized Vancouver is building a team arround.... Tocchet (with responsible and really tough players to play against, like Tocchet also was) to be best in the playoff. And all their 5 signings yesterday (including the bargain / low cost once) were like that (the best / 'worst'/most uncomfortable player to play against from each of the teams from which they came/signed). So they were very impressed by Vancouver signings (and it was not a pro Vancouver channel, but based in Toronto). And Vancouver had also used their playoff opponents to be opportunities to scout for the most uncomfortable/good players to have on their own team this year. All 5 players signed by Vancouver yesterday were Tocchet kind of players, and playing tough too, fitting well into his system. So that is, why they realized Vancouver is building a team, not around some player, but around Tocchet. And the channel was based in Toronto, and I don't remember which player, but they were happy Vancouver had signed a player in Toronto's division, so that Toronto would not need to face him anymore, that is how uncomfortable that player was to play against [that was referring to debrusk of Boston]. And the same with the player (one of the defensmen, I believe) Vancouver signed from, I believe Nashville? And they said, just ask Hughes, that he would be happy to have him on his own team instead of having to play against him. So that is what Vancouver has been up to lately, really preparing in the best way for the playoff (not the regular season to show off), and perhaps going somewhat below the radar. Vancouver also did not sign any old available players, they noticed.
