He's coming from a team with a strong team-first attitude and structure. I think he's a Tocchet type of player. Not a perfect player, but overall I like the signing. But as with all signings, we'll just have to watch and see.
Love this signing for the youngest player available for +$5 million in free agency. DeBrusk had an injured hand last season, so his scoring was down, until the playoffs where he was back to scoring clutch goals for Boston, so no worries there. The last couple of seasons he hasn't had an elite playmaking centre to feed him, so I expect him to fill the net for Vancouver. Tocchet is going to love having this guy on his bench.
Canucks hoping he can be like what Zack Hyman ended up in Edmonton who people thought that the Oilers overpaid who was a 3rd line player for the Leafs.
Can he be an upgrade on Mikheyev for Pettersson? I mean, I could be an upgrade on Mikheyev, but if him and Pettersson click, then it's a great deal. If not, we got 7 years of Debrusk.
Another side note, if you think about it, this is kind of part of the Lindholm, Kuzmenko trade. As the Canucks paid that price for Lindholm, as well as to free up 5.5 million in cap. This is what the team chose to use that cap on. If it works out, that trade will look much better in the coming years.
Vancouver, you’re getting a solid two way player who can kill penalties as well. I’m upset that the Bruins couldn’t at least match that price or do better. They’ve invested all those years developing him why not see it through? It looks like Vancouver did some poaching from the Boston Bruins. Danton Heinen at 2.6? The Bruins had him at the leave minimum last year through a P/T. He earned his money and I’m as equally as shocked that the Bruins let him go as well after the year he had last season for the B’s. I’m guessing that this will be another t player given up on that will come back to night the B’s in the butt! The last of that dreadful “2015” draft is gone. Embarrassing!
I still don't get why EP40 needs a supporting cast. if your making 11.6 million you should be able to be a one man show. At 11.6 EP should be making other players around him better, not the other way around.
When I hear these comments about scoring in the playoffs, it drives me crazy. You need to GET TO THE PLAYOFFS before even thinking about scoring in the playoffs. Debrusk might be the greatest playoff scorer in history but it's no used if you can't get to the playoffs
The reason Pettersson slumped was because Pettersson slumped. It's not like a magical winger will unlock him and I'm glad that wasn't the Canucks' approach. I'm not convinced he's destined to be glued to Pettesson forever. The bottom line is it's a good price for a winger who over 90 playoff games has proven he's a playoffs guy.
Seriously? He got 100 points DESPITE having a winger that couldn’t score to save his life. Pettersen could’ve had 30 more points if Mikheyev could have put away all the chances he had! And who was his other winger? So irrelevant that I can’t even remember.
Petterson slumped because he doesn't play Rick Tocchet Style Hockey. Tocchet is a systems guy; Terrible for creative players Like Kuz & Petterson, but great for guys like Boesser & Miller
I listened and learnt some things from another channel too, regarding Canucks signings and wrote a long reply about it elsewhere, which I copy and paste here too (since I thought it was interesting, and also relevant here): I happened to listen to some random nhl youtube commentary channel (that consisted of several guys different perspectives, discussing) that turned out to be really good (I will subscribe to it). Anyway, they realized Vancouver is building a team arround.... Tocchet (with responsible and really tough players to play against, like Tocchet also was) to be best in the playoff. And all their 5 signings yesterday (including the bargain / low cost once) were like that (the best / 'worst'/most uncomfortable player to play against from each of the teams from which they came/signed). So they were very impressed by Vancouver signings (and it was not a pro Vancouver channel, but based in Toronto). And Vancouver had also used their playoff opponents to be opportunities to scout for the most uncomfortable/good players to have on their own team this year. All 5 players signed by Vancouver yesterday were Tocchet kind of players, and playing tough too, fitting well into his system. So that is, why they realized Vancouver is building a team, not around some player, but around Tocchet. And the channel was based in Toronto, and I don't remember which player, but they were happy Vancouver had signed a player in Toronto's division, so that Toronto would not need to face him anymore, that is how uncomfortable that player was to play against [that was referring to debrusk of Boston]. And the same with the player (one of the defensmen, I believe) Vancouver signed from, I believe Nashville? And they said, just ask Hughes, that he would be happy to have him on his own team instead of having to play against him. So that is what Vancouver has been up to lately, really preparing in the best way for the playoff (not the regular season to show off), and perhaps going somewhat below the radar. Vancouver also did not sign any old available players, they noticed.

@@Loveconcert2006 yup! He has never been a top six forward! Boston tried meatball, there paying top six money long term and he has never proven himself worthy of the title! It all good! Golf is very expensive in Van, especial when you start playing in mid April!😂

5.5m for a 40 point scorer? While plus minus isn’t a perfect stat, de brusk is also -16 in 86 playoff games. This is terrifying to me. Absolutely a signature move for Alvin that will determine whether he is a good gm or not.
@@dogsbreakfast4952 oh I can see it going either way. I can see the 35g 35a player and I can see the 16g, 16a player. If he was 24-25 the money term makes sense as you pay for him to grow into the role. He’s had 1 year of top 6 numbers at 28 when the season starts.
Donnie is complaining about the signing because he doesn't have chemistry with a guy he's never played with? With that logic, why sign anyone in free agency ever unless they've played with us before lol
Allvin messed up signing Zadorov and was schooled on free agency signings. The Canucks will not make the playoffs next year as their defense is atrocious!
