A couple weeks ago I had just finished three days of fasting and was trying to do a 7 day fast. Day four I woke up with a severe headache, fatigue, and nauseousness. I thought something was wrong and never thought of it being a good thing that it was just my body doing what it should do. God is an amazing, awesome, intelligent Creator!

I fasted for 87 hours. I was thinking about doing it for 4 to 5 days, but I woke up like this too and I have 3 daughters and today my wife had to leave early to do some work, as I was very tired and exhausted, I ended up drinking lame water to improve and hold the ends. here at home because I was really feeling really bad. I know that these 3 days and a few more hours have brought me benefits!

Same here. I would recommend eating a minimal amount of unprocessed carbs like hummus, chickpeas, unsweetened and undiluted peanut butter (no veg or seed oils mixed in) with your last meal of the day, a few hours before your bedtime and then have your majority of fat and protein within the day. This will signal to your body to keep its energy up in daylight and start melatonin production in the evenings.

Had some very nasty constipation that was so painful (lower back & lower abdomen) that I had to get an ultra-sound and a CT! I was already drinking lemon water, taking magnesium and eating prunes, kimchi and all manner of probiotic foods. My infection values in the blood were borderline and fever was at borderline. The body was healing and the immune system was working, but it took a prescribed laxative to give the relieving push. (I had carried the pain around with me for 6 weeks. I had been IF (usually 17 -27 hour fasting intervals) for two weeks, when the pain began. It wasn't until the 8th week, despite gut-careful eating, that the toxin release through the intestine got the toxins and dead cells out and with them, the pain. The laxative experience was a dooooooooooosy and I think the pain and the doooooosy could have been avoided it I had taken an actual laxative from the start.

I watched your videos on the 3-day fast while we were on vacation in Ireland but planned to wait a couple of weeks after I was back home to try it. When we returned, I was sick - turned out to be Covid. After 5 days, I had no appetite and had lost 5 pounds. So, I decided to take advantage. I did the 3-day water fast and lost 3 additional pounds. I immediately went into the 30-day reset schedule. I'm now on day 3 of the reset and this morning, I have a rash in several places on my face. I've always had sensitive skin so this isn't a big surprise and watching this video helps. I feel like fasting helped me get through Covid quickly and this video helps to understand what's happening and how to treat the rash. I'm brand new to this way of fasting and loving it! Thank you!

Good to address these issues Dr.Mindy! During my 24 hour fast, I had a long sleep and thought, "oh no! my metabolism is diving AGAIN!"
The next day I awoke to a rather large boil. It took about a week to "dissappear " I took an epsom salts bath every night before bed. Not only did my boil (and all the nasty toxins) go away..but so did my rashes. Also taking milk thistle for liver detox. Also my leaky bladder symptoms are gone! I haven't had any of the other unpleasant side effects that you mention, but then I haven't done any of the extended fasting periods yet.
    Love you Dr.Mindy ❤

After finding you last week I put together a plan and found where I am in my cycle - day 18 (perimenopausal so maybe I'm right-ha!) I really wanted to dig in hard so I started Thursday night with a 36 hour fast, Saturday broke my fast at 7am with a 12 hour eating window and into another 36 hour fast. This morning I broke my fast at 7 am and will begin an 18 hour fast shortly because tomorrow I start the Nurture Phase with no fasting for 10 days or until my period starts, so I want to get one more long fast in before I begin that phase.
In just the few days that I've been doing this my observations are:
    1. My phlegm is drying up - I'm usually very annoyingly phlegmy, always clearing my throat and/or coughing up slime, but I noticed this morning that I haven't been doing this as much today. I'm not sorry to see this go away!!
    2. I have dropped 4 pounds so far. 🎉
    3. I fall asleep faster. Usually it takes me a good solid hour, if not more, reading a book to get my eyelids to droop, but now it's only been 20-25 minutes before lights out! My dog & daughter have not let me find out if my sleep has been sound throughout the night as they have been waking me at 3 am for various reasons, however, I'm not as tired when I get up in the morning as I think I should be considering the nightly 3 am interruptions.
    4. Diarrhea! I literally just had a movement about an hour ago that made me come straight here and search that word on your channel to see if you address this startling situation! It was A LOT of dark brown water, but no pain or discomfort and even odder was hardly any smell. 😳 That might be TMI, but thought it was worth mentioning. As it was pouring steadily out of me (it wasn't even explosive or crazy) I was waiting for whatever horrific stench was about to rise up, but really there was hardly anything! It really was the most bizarre movement I've ever had.
So thank you for the advise! I'm off to eat some protein and cram in some of the 3-P's while my window is still open!
Thank you so much for sharing all of this helpful and so interesting information. I can't wait until I complete an entire 30 day cycle. 😀

I started IF 7 weeks ago and it's been a struggle for me with keto flu symptoms. There have been times I've thought maybe it just wasn't for me, but I'm sticking with it! I keep telling myself that it's better than having Type II!

One negative affect of the keto diet and fasting to put yourself into ketosis is bad breath. My husband has just lovingly told me that it has been quite horrible since I started fasting regularly (about a month ago). I was disappointed that you didn't talk about this in your video. Perhaps you might do a video about that? Thanks.

Phew! I'm new to the channel, this community and to fasting. I have been varying my fasts between 13, 15, 17 and finally did a 24 hour fast yesterday. I noticed the headache, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue and the day before I had a weird rash show up on my leg. I was concerned, but now, after seeing this video, I'm so happy!!! I'm still not losing weight. So, I'm trying to kick sugar and wearing a castor oil pack. This is not easy, but my body feels sooo much better when I'm not constantly eating. I lost about 20lbs on Gundry, I listen to Hyman talk about Food Is Medicine, and Dr. Sten Ekberg is my favorite Olympic Champion. Dr. Mindy is the Cherry on Top of my Better Health Ice Cream Sundae that's gonna get me off this plateau!!!

Hi! Thank you for your amazing work.
I wanted to do a 3 day water fast and it went well for 2 days. I had a lot of water, I added some lemon and salt to it (half teaspoon of salt). The hunger and cravings went away and I felt sharp.
When I slept into day 3, I had terrible sleep. Nightmares, aching in my body and I felt hunger. I woke up in the morning feeling nacious, dizzy and severe aching pain in my legs.
I then supplemented with Electrolytes, magnesium, Vitamin D, Kalium etc. But it didn’t really help. So I wanted to break my fast, I started slowly eating arugula and an avocado with some salt and olive oil, but I got diarrhea. Apparently I did something wrong. I then saw your video about how to break the fast correctly. I don’t have broth available, but I have now eaten yoghurt and in half an hour I will eat sauerkraut.
Can you help me explaining this issues of aching pain in the legs, dizziness and diarrhea for me? Just to understand if I understood my side effects correctly
    Thank you

I caved 66 hours into a 72 hour fast. I had a headache and had a hard time getting anything done at work due to low energy and general sliggishness, so I ate a protein bar and immediately got a surge of energy. It was my first 3 day fast attempt. My body is used to a daily 6 hour eating window, but not multiple day fasts. I probably should’ve started with a smaller goal. I will try again in a couple of weeks. Taking salt and caffeine did help some with my headache. I was good for the first 48, but didn’t start getting into ketosis until I woke up on the 3rd morning & tested, which was about 54 hours in.

I've been binge watching your fasting videos. I think what's tricky is that I'm having some of the symptoms that mean you should stop but I do also tend to know my own limits.
I stopped a water fast yesterday after 21 hours. I am very weak but it almost seems like the bar for entry is having a somewhat strong body to begin with. I'm starting off with a very chronically ill body so I think it stands to reason that people like me could still possibly benefit from fasting even if it's adding weakness, extreme fatigue, etc.

I just finished my first 36 hour fast and 3 days later am still dealing with diarrhea, it's starting to slow down now but for the first 2 days it was like someone turned on a tap and couldn't shut it off. I did supplement during my fast, electrolytes and vitamins because I was getting leg cramps. This is so unpleasant that I'm really turned off of prolonged fasting. I was feeling fine doing 16/8 and 18/6 and even 20/4 but longer seems to not work so well for me.
I really did like the effect of the pain and stiffness in my right hip went away. It went from barely being able to walk to suddenly walking normally. Is there anything I can do beforehand to minimize the diarrhea? It seriously was just gushers of liquid starting about 30 hours into the fast, so it started before I even broke my fast. Was I drinking too much water? Taking in too much salt? I was experiencing dry mouth seemingly no matter how much water I was drinking and leg cramps all night even taking magnesium and potassium.
