My fasting hack is to declutter and reorganise my home. I pick a drawer, a rail, a shelf, a box, a bag or a cupboard and I start throwing away anything broken, stained or useless! Then I fill a box or bag with anything I don't need, use or want, to give away. And anything else gets put away in the best place for it to be. (Throw Away, Give Away, Put Away) It absolutely takes my mind off feeling hunger, takes hours longer than I think it will and extends my fast painlessly and productively ;-)
My home is losing excess weight too. lol.

    1. Stabilize blood sugar PRIOR to beginning the fast.
    2. Make the decision every day on how long you will fast.
    3. Am I hungry? Or is my brain just telling me I need to be happy? Change your state of being. Walk, listen to music, watch tv etc.
    4. Stay BUSY. Nap if you can
    5. Know your Hacks eg. Fastonic, iron biome, mineral water in a wine glass…
    6. Watch your mindset

One example dinner for me would be Salmon (with garlic, lemon juice, pink salt, cayenne pepper, EVOO) asparagus with Parmesan, & cauliflower rice. I have this at least once a week. The rest of the week I switch up the meats and veggies. I get totally full and I’m happy! I just finished a 90 hour fast (6 hours short of 4 days). The first 3 days were easy and I WAS, like dr. Pelz, working very hard at my desk, very busy. But I had no dizziness or light-headedness. On 2 of the days I even cycled about 75 minutes a day. The 4th day was a bit harder and I became tired and a bit listless, so lay down twice during the day (broke the fast at 6pm evening). I think the only reason the first 3 days were easy was because of lots of practice in shorter fasts since 6 months ago. I have already done 3 fasts of 3 days, and intended here to do the same, but decided, seeing I was doing so well, to see if I could do a 4th day . . .Nearly did, but stopped 6 hours short of 4 days. 90 hours. May sound crazy, but if I can take a walk, it helps. I think the moderate cardio creates a subtle increase in ketones and decrease in blood sugar, suppressing hunger. In fact, having been diagnosed diabetic before going keto, I start my mornings-especially fasting-with a walk.
Apple cider vinegar (1 tbsp in 8oz water) also helps suppress hunger, and that's great first thing in the morning, too. I put 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1/2 tsp NoSalt potassium chloride (in the salt section of your store), 1/4 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp baking soda in it too. This is a good time to supplement magnesium also (magnesium glycinate, magnesium malate or magnesium threonate-the glycine in the first is relaxing, magnesium malate is a mild stimulant, magnesium threonate delivers magnesium to the brain, uniquely.)
These make the biggest difference to me. I think restlessness while fasting are often an electrolyte imbalance. If it's insomnia, then the magnesium glycinate may help.
One more thing: try to avoid magnesium citrate. It'll can cause you to empty your colon! If you aren't prepared for it, you may have a mess when you least expect it.

Very helpful advice. I’ve been fasting since the age of 10 during Ramadhan. This taught me over the years that it’s not the end of the world when we go without food.
In my early 50’s, I started intermittent fasting and built up gradually.
When I was menopausal, I gained a colossal 20kg which is around 44 lbs. I’ve been slim all of 13:19 my life as I was a professional ballet dancer with the Paris Opera Ballet. I’m now a teacher for the same company. I’m 1.68cm tall and was an active 47kg, around 103 lbs. I had back ache, pain in my right hip and knee, due to the added weight. I eat a Mediterranean diet throughout my life but menopause was a shock!
I’ve tried and failed sometimes during intermittent fasting. I now have strategies to keep me on track, especially ballet photos of me and the corps de ballet and this is a huge motivation for me.
Losing weight after menopause is very difficult but the solution for me is to focus on how I feel if I fall off the wagon. I lose confidence, I don’t want to socialise and become sad when my clothes don’t fit me.
Intermittent fasting is tough but the benefits are out of this world. I do 3 day fasts, switch to 20 hour fasts for 2 days and go back to 3 day fasts. It’s the only thing works for me.
Thank you for your advice and tips, they help a lot of us. 💕

New subscriber 👋 ive been fasting for almost 2 years and have lost 147 lbs with 36 left to lose to reach my goal weight. I do 23:1, 5 days. Week and do a shorter fast 2 days a week to give myself a mental break. I eat only salmon, fruits, and healthy beans. The two days im not so restrictive I allow myself to eat whatever i want. I drink liquid IV on super restricted days. I feel like doing this is 98% mental for me. I have completely changed my mindset and focus on why im doing this. I still struggle with hunger but i stay busy and keep my mind busy. After i dont give in I feel mentally stronger. Its definitely mind games. Its like im at battle with myself. I do get my vitamin levels checked just to make sure im getting everything I need. Not only have I lost weight i have now reduced my A1C levels to a normal range, my cholesterol is in normal range, and i also quit smoking cigarettes over a year ago. Hunger is a temporary feeling but it is a blessing. It helps to remind u that when ur hungry if u break the fast it will actually feel worse to eat then to keep fasting , the thing that makes fasting difficult is the fatigue , but there are ways to breakthrough it and access supernatural energy through the Word of God. also u wont be hungry forever the feeling will go away . it may come back at times in waves but u can use that as a reminder to pray. When u fast and pray and read Gods word the Bible , you are actually feeding your spirit .When you Pray and Fast the way God intended Miracles tend to happen . Your more connected to Jesus Christ the One and Only true God . I dare you the person reading this that the next time you fast to Pray to Jesus Christ and to read the bible . i Guarantee you , you will experience something Supernatural . Seek the Lord while he may be found . Repent the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand .

At first It was just IF then did some research about keto and after 2weeks I added lowcarb high fat diet, it took sometime since I was so skeptical that this would work for me because of my high blood pressure. So in my first cycle of fasting like a girl. I started doing 16/8 last month and did that whole way through though week before period was unbearable and I cracked. Was pretty disheartened at lack of will power and no weight loss but felt better for the most part.
Was so glad when I found Mindy as now taking into account my cycle. I am overweight, had pain everywhere, completely stiff like the tin man and felt like my connective tissues were made of wood , I had bloating, insomnia and anxiety.
No significant weight loss yet but I believe that takes time on IF but more importantly to me , pain has reduced so much ,I am back on the yoga mat regularly, my anxiety is down, sleep has been much improved, mood more stable, cravings for sugar are disappearing. Also stopped alcohol.
I am having no problems with 16 hours but struggled to get to 24.. Felt faint and all my conditioning to eat at least 3 times a day kicked in so folded at 20 . I am just coming out of power phase. I will aim for 24 hours in my next cycle power phase. Going to take the advice and reduce carbs in prep for that.

Turn off the TV...!!! And avoid internet media that advertises food. These corporations pay big bucks to manipulate our psychology/hunger. As Mindy mentions; stay busy! I actually make a to do list of small projects I've been procrastinating, and it's amazing how much one can accomplish with the heightened energy and mental focus of a fast.

If youre talking about wanting something to ok this makes sense but if your stomach is really growling sorry tricks or mind games arent going to help most people
Putting fluid in your body will help but water doesnt do it for me. Its difficult however u slice it.

I agree! As an alternative, a 3-month supply of Dr. Berg's electrolytes is a little on the pricey side ($44?, so $15/month) but worth it. Very high quality. No stevia or any sweeteners like her LMNTO recommendation. A pricey glucose blood monitor is not needed unless you have diabetes or some other condition. You can get ketone test strips for cheap and other things on Amazon. They are as accurate as the blood meter. Btw, with her glucose-ketone meter, you have to buy more sharps and strips after the initial supply runs out.
When hungry, weigh yourself. The satisfaction of weight loss is huge motivation to continue on and forget hunger.

I cook all of our meals from scratch also, I find if I cook multiple meals at a time it helps. Everyone can just get things then when they are hungry. One of the things I had to break was the thoughts that we had to eat at specific times, by the clock. Now everyone just eats when they're hungry and it's much smoother and easier. I know many people think it's just weird and you should eat breakfast at seven, lunch at twelve and dinner by six. Now we don't worry about the clock.

I've lost 40lbs this year due to fasting, its a fascinating practice, it's a great start to reducing weight if you're obese and likely sedentary, and then (like I am) once you plateau you finally get into the spot where exercise is your next step, and you've already made serious improvements. I think that's a recipe for progress. Getting food urges down is a great first sort of problem to figure out.

I eat about 2-3 joints worth of hemp a day when I fast and I don't get hungry at all. I just feel comfortable. Peaceful. 48hrs+ is easy this way compared to water only fasting. No hunger. No heavyness.

I was doing a weekly 36 during the covid shutdowns, so with no job I was watching too much TV, some days I'd binge watch Supernatural, other days 12 hours of the Food Network. Watching it is surprisingly filling, LOL

Thanks for all the tips, Dr. Mindy! Ive been intermittent fasting for a few months, and i never plan to go back. I read Fast Like a Girl, and that really changed how i fast. I now fast with my cycle and am very careful about my food before i have a long fast planned. Last month i tried a 36 hour fast, but i got so nauseous from my body detoxing that i broke it early. This month i tried again after i timed it to my cycle and watched my processed foods/ oils, and it was a breeze! I never felt so empowered, to see that all the small changes were making such a big difference to my overall health! Im excited to do another 36 hour fast next week when im in the window on my cycle again.
