I agree the pinking sheers I think give a nice finish to the coasters.
Just finished my first set. They came out great. Easy easy. Did a second line of stitching about a half inch inside of the first stitch line looks great. I did the pinked edge.

Can interfacing be uses instead of batting? Or just adding another layer of material in the middle?
What are the blades called for the rotary blade I rather use them. Then the pinker sheets
If your machine doesn't have a needle-stop-down "feature" you can just turn the wheel, you don't need to wing it.
What material is used for batting
What kind of batting do you use?
Are you using a Viking machine?
